Experience was okay, tip*** double check your sushi, if it looks or smells off do not eat it even if the waiter says it’s fresh.. found out after that even the manager said it was a bad batch of salmon they received. Got a new plate, that I still paid for but honestly couldn’t stomach anything after three days took off from working because had tummy problems from a half a salmon roll.. just my opinion - but I’m not eating there again.

If you feel like a badly cooked rice meal order their sushi. Go to any other ocean basket. I logged the request as you stated in your reply before this review. It’s been a week and no follow up. Don’t suggest feedback from clients if you don’t use it.

Was looking forward to a tasty ocean basket meal.Ordered a platter for 1.the rice was not fresh.warm in top cold at the bottom.The prawns were over grilled and oily which caused them to be rubbery.The calamari was over cooked which was rubbery.The mini octopus was over fried and hard to chew oily so was the battered hake.The mussel sauce do not taste like the mussel sauce ocean basket usually serves.Seafood is suppose to be tasty and fresh.I would prefer eating at the branch in Kenilworth center next time as I enjoyed the meal I had there.

Great service--friendly staff and they politely allowed us to make simple changes to a set item on the menu-- simply loved the cranberry cooler juice wish it came in bigger size--Food was beautiful 😋 😋 😋

The store was very accommodating of our needs and Admire our waiter was very helpful and gave us great service!

Firstly I’d love to say Shukran to the staff especially to “Hakeem” he was the best waiter ever immediately when he saw us he came running and seated us , gave our menu and waited until we ordered ☺️. We got the usual starter bread and cold ice water as asked , our cranberry juice was cold and devine we even took our leftover juice home😍 . We ordered the biggest platter and extra mussels it arrived so so fast !! Everything was warm ,soft and full of sauce 😋😋 nothing can beat vangate ocean basket 🤤. Service was excellent and gave a good tip 😉 If you want to spoil your parents this is the place to go 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Will be back soon 👌

Service was good. The rice wasnt very nice. It had too much of something. Cant put my finger on it. But over all, our lunch was nice.

Fish was nice, prawns and mussels great. However those huge squard heads was hard and to cripy. You have to use a knife to cut it. The tube calamari like rubber.

Im Extremely disappointed in the service Ive received due to lack of miss information and to top it all off the head office wasnt evens trying to find a way to accomodate or help me after I explained the bad situation I was put in due to a problem from there side.

We dropped in on Monday to get some sushi for my sons birthday. It was before 11 and we were told they only open at 11:30. After a conversation with the manager, we were able to get our take away sushi. The sushi was really good and my son enjoyed it! And because he enjoyed it, was the saving grace for the rating. Its usually hit and miss with this branch... sometimes excellent, other times not so much. But theyre our closest halaal branch.

I have never 🤢been so dissatisfied and disappointed. I bought a California roll and maki sushi yesterday 24 July 2020 @ Oceans in Vangagate that I have never been to before.Anyhow the sushi was falling apart ,the soya sauce OMG was tempered with.The soy sauce was extra salty and vinegary 🤢 Every time I dipped the sushi it fell apart and the awful taste of the sauce made it worse.Making matters even worse ,I wake up to a sore tummy and nausea exactly 8 hours I have consumed and digested this disgusting sushi.I have had great sushi from Canal Walk and the V&A,but vangate Im highly disappointed.

It was empty when I arrived so we served immediately.The service was adequate.The calamari was neither hot nor interesting.Overall experience was very okay.

The sushi was absolutely awful

Eric from Ghana served us and he was an excellent waiter. The food was as good as can be expected, especially the sushi. Plus we didnt have to wait long for our food. The only complaint was that the drinks were very sweet and we had to add alot of water. Otherwise its a place Ill definitely recommend.

A very popular franchise but this one in Vangate Mall has to be the the worst restaurant experience. Everything from the staff to the food is of a poor quality and I will never eat there again. The management over there should go out to the other franchises and see how its done.

Very disappointed with my experience at Ocean Basket Vangate Mall. Was served salmon sushi with an insect in it. When I complained to management, they insinuated that I had put the bug in the food. None of the management came to the table to apologize for the terrible service given. Instead I had to go up to them and ask them why they had not come to address the issue with me, a paying customer. Management then became very defensive and rude. I will NEVER go back to the restaurant again and am appalled by the attitude of those who work there.

Came here last year in April. Ordered a platter for two. Dont have any complaints about the food. Our waiter was a hard man to get hold of though. Need to work on that. Other than that I wont know.

I had ordered a vangate platter for 2 and extra saganaki via telephone last night. When the platter arrived home, I was so disgusted by the way it was represented firstly! and secondly, there was about 10 chips and a very little rice. The muscles and praws were super small and the 2 pieces of hake was probably the skinniest they could find. Also the fact that they gave 10 prawns and like 3 pieces of saganaki totally pissed me off. And I mean with a R360 I couldve fed an entire family, weve been customers since ocean basket opened at vangate mall and we drive from woodstock because its halal. But I think Im done buying from them, as this was not my first bad experience with them.
