The food was simply delicious! The Atlantic Express Train Restaurant is set up in a vintage/classic dinning train carriage. Keep that in mind if youre looking for something fancy. If youll allow it it will transport you to another era. The staff was super friendly. Due to Covid I think theybl are opening on weekends only.

Its a very homey setting, just a little too small for my liking, the food is always worth the wait and the food is def worth the cost. Me and my family love the green thai chilli pasta

I rate the food 5 stars. Really really delicious food. As a classic oldie the charm is in the carriage with all its vintage fittings. The table tops however could be replaced with something newer. The maitre d should definitely keep her eye on the clients. Its difficult to get her attention because of the nature of the venue, unless you get up and go to where she is. One does not want to have to call out to the staff. I definitely recommend visiting this restaurant. Cant wait to go back to try something else on the menu. 👌💕

Really disappointing..I expected the place and food to be better. Honestly we were still hungry when we left. The burger and chips was like the ones you sell for a youth fundraiser @R35 at most. No thanks, never going back.

Theres definitely room for improvement. Otherwise the food was nice but due to the whole place only having 1 waitress for all customers,the service was slow.

Atlantic Express is the perfect place for a Breakfast Lunch in Sea Point, the restaurant is inside an old train so it feels like you onboard a vintage luxury train.The service is excellent and food is awesome. I’ve tried the Breakfast with Steak and most recently I tried the Chicken Burger, the burger was quite tasty and filling.We tried the pancakes for dessert and I chose the Banana Pancake with Ice Cream.

A unique experience. Not a lot of tables so can not accommodate groups of people. Food is your basic roadhouse style food.

The service has definitely gone down. I pre-booked during Ramadan and got seated at the worst possible seating and there wasnt enough place for everyone (booked for 6, got a 4 seating table). Also got our food 1 hour and 40 minutes after we ordered (Everyone ordered steak). One of the boys got a strawberry milkshake in a dirty glass with visible food on the glass.I definitely wont be returning.

Looks a bit tacky from the outside but was clean inside. Toilets were clean. Food was freshly prepared and very tasty. Had dessert was average. Would recommend for a different atmosphere and experience. Waitress very friendly service was efficient and fast. Owner came over for a friendly chat.Would definitely be returning. Not too busy. Parking a bit of a dilemma.

Some 35 years ago, I used to attend training in Sea Point and used to pass this Restaurant housed in a train carriage. I always wondered and this past weekend, the wondering ceased when I took my girls for a treat. They were excited that they were going to eat on a train and they enjoyed themselves with my youngest having to go to the loo so often just to explore. The toilets itself was clean and presentable.A bit narrow with seating not too spacious due to the overall width of the carriage, but the excellent food and presentation with good service made up for any minor deficiencies if any. The carriage still looked good and shows that it has been well maintained. What will definitely bring us back is that it is halaal and that the service and quality of food is excellent. We rarely have meat at home, so when I get a chance, I like to order steak, but often am disappointed with the tenderness - this was near perfect and my daughter enjoyed her butter chicken as well.

This place is closed. Not sure if it has closed down.

Had our anniversary lunch here and opted for the Monday special which consisted of chicken burgers with chips, pancakes and Coke which we swopped out for milkshake at a small added cost. The burgers were juicy and delicious as was the pancakes and milkshake. We had a lovely experience. Looking forward to our next visit.

This place was much better run a few years back. Right now I don’t even know where to starts...Constant flies since we walked in hovering around us.Samoosas were oily. Food tasted old - my husband had the chicken and a chop with mostly fat on it. Dessert was served with ice cream that was already melted and we were just told sorry for the melted ice cream.Seriously they don’t take any pride in their food.We weren’t told that they don’t have card machines and with my 2% battery power I was forced to do an EFT. Then to top it off the manager kept screaming at the staff, and also kept coming to talk to us and got so close without wearing his mask. Even though we are in the midst of a pandemic. Was rather uncomfortable and underwhelming experience. Never again. Stay away 🤦🏻‍♀️

I bought one of those burger and pancake deals. These deals offer a venue the opportunity to showcase what they have to offer, with the hope that people will return to frequent the establishment. What could have been a unique experience of dining out in a train, was so underwhelming.The seating needed some serious steam cleaning, the burger patty was small and flat. The pancake was small and not appetizing at all. Sauces given were Steers sauces and other off the shelf sauces I buy at my local spice shop.Overall it was an experience we will not repeat and cant recommend to anyone. Such a pity.

Ordered toasted steak was soggy even though I asked to toast both sides and they served me 2 different sandwiches put together. On the other hand we also ordered a toasted chicken mayo and scones . No complaints there.

A shadow of its former self... Place looks dilapidated, as is the lacklustre service.Went in for desserts today which were barely average.Also they apparently no longer have a POS system so the bill was scribbled on a till slip. And no card facilities... Requested an EFT payment!Give it a miss.

The food was fairly average, there was nothing spectacular. I would not go there again for the food. But it was a novelty to eat in train carriage. The restaurant is tiny and is in a very cosy setting.The service could of been slightly better but was alright. The waitress kept shouting the orders to the kitchen while standing in the middle of carriage, this I found quite annoying and very distracting when trying to enjoy a lovely conversation with my fellow diner.Overall it was under-whelmingly average, if even that, which is a pity as it has the setting to be such an exciting restaurant.

The place needed a steam clean and some maintenance. The seats fabric was ripped. We purchased a burger special, the Coke was poured from a 2litre which had no gas, the pancake and ice cream tasted very old, like stored for years in the freezer. The burgers pattie was almost as thin as a slice of spiced beef. Overall not impressed and wont go back.

Brilliant concept. You feel like you in a real train ride, wirh the cars moving pass.

Halaal! The food here never disappoints so it’s always worth the visit ; I noticed some other reviews mentioned that the food was just “the usual” nope ! Perhaps you haven’t ordered correctly lol must try on the menu is the Thai green curry ; the lamb chops; and the smoked paprika pasta . All winners for me - down side would be the seating ; it’s a novel idea and very cool to have a restaurant on a train but the downside is how squashed one feels; made me a little uncomfortable knowing others were so close especially in these COVID times. The waitron is extremely helpful ; the bathrooms are small and the place needs a little uplifting but if it’s good food you want then good food they shall deliver.The also cater on the beach picnics.

The place was very different than it was when I first visited. The service was poor and the standard of food was not good. There was no notice to say you can only pay with cash but after the meal thats when they inform you. The plating of the food was bad, oil all over the plate.

This is one of those places you cant help going back to time after time. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is of a high standard. I know its part of the charm but the fact that it is a train carriage means it is a little small and it cant accommodate a crowd. Having said that, the staff do an amazing job of managing the space. If you havent been there yet, do go.

This place is a little gem that is absolutely amazing. We only had the coffee and pancakes. They were superb. Was quiet late afternoon I understand it gets really busy at night. The service was excellent and the owners friendliness and hospitality adds that personal touch which is lacking in so many eateries. Was quite clean as well.

Went for a family Sunday breakfast, friendly service and food was good, cozy place.Unfortunately they were out of juice for the kids meal, out of Macon, didnt even bring an item of our order we just left it too.Mistake on the bill, charged extra for a coffee that was part of the meal and card machine out of order or offline.Overall disappointing

We took our children to experience eating on an old-fashioned train carriage, like I had with my parents in the late 80s. We had to practically beg the waitress to help us. The menu felt sticky. The tables do not fit with the rest of the decor. The toilets were not clean. The train is literally falling apart: the windows frames need repairs as does the ornate woodwork on the outside. Structural maintenance and upkeep is long overdue. We ordered drinks and starters, the food eventually arrived and the waitress asked if she should now bring the drinks :-). Its normally drinks first... We were going to have mains but decided to rather move somewhere else cleaner. It was such a letdown.

Breakfast items were great. However, the banana waffle left me wanting more in both actual waffle and presentation. Bananas were just simply sliced into rounds and placed around the border of a very thin waffle.

Nice and cozy, food takes quite quick to come. Food is good and tasty! I would recommend for dates lol, if youre trying to be fancy but not too fancy (just make sure shes ok with the spaces beforehand, in case she gets claustrophobic) the more spacious seats are at the one end of the train. I am definitely coming back! 10/10

My family went out to have breakfast on the 16th August 2020 at this place. I discovered that my sandwich was ful of mould and couldnt believe that the chef didnt see that the bread was completely moulded on one sandwich. I immediately vomited when I saw this and notified the waitress and even went as far as approaching the chef to know how could they possibly not see this as it was on the inside of the sandwich bread.If I can attach picure. I called the owner to come see what his restaurant is doing during covid 19. He did not take my call nor take a call from the train restaurant who also wanted to advise him of what just happened. Most disgusting experience ever.I will report incident and hope everybody that intends to eat here please check your food thoroughly and owners non response is just unacceptable as I will report him to health officials as well.

Lets see I didnt want to go to this place it looked like a dirty taxi that should be burnt however my partner wanted to go. The card machine didnt work. The glasses looked over used. The steak burger was over sauce the fries were oily like they were fried three times. The Thai green curry was a spinach based pasta with very little peppers. The brownie wasnt bad but the ice cream tasted odd. Overall I dont say this often but the owner need a look on the service they offer. Thats not food I would offer a prisoner even. Have some pride in your food and the menu needs help

I cant believe its my first time visiting here, after living in Cape Town for 20years... Food was surprisingly good, we had the seafood platters and really enjoyed it. Service is a little slow, so dont be in a rush. The train couch, made from wood is showing its age and in need of a revamp. Overall, we had a pleasant Sunday afternoon lunch!

I was very pleasantly surprised. The decor looks a bit rough but the food was superb. I would personally recommend the 300g Cheddamelt Fillet steak. Also note that they dont have a liquor license so soft drinks only. The experience was very homely and cozy with families sitting in their small booths. Clearly a favorite amongst the locals. 😊

While it may have been a different experience.. Different experiences are not always a good thing... Sadly the place was dirty, seats were dirty, flies pestering us so much that we couldnt order our meal there. We only had milkshakes which were very average. Prices dont match service or quality of food or place. Food was extremely oily, well the one little starter we ordered. Sadly very disappointed after being so excited. Needs major revamp of the exterior to make it more appealing.

Beautiful experience. The train is a strange mix between a wonderful old fashioned luxury and a tacky, shabby wagon. Owner and waiters are friendly, efficient and fast even if you need to wait a little bit as soon as its busy. Its really intimate and romantic. Food is tasty, try the masala and portions are huge, it worth the money. A charming place but some plates can be upgrated.

Food was amazingly tasty and so good. Small and cozy. Surprised my girlfriend on her birthday with 3 course breakfast. She loved it. Food was perfectly timed and perfectly prepared.

Excellent lunch experience. The staff are pleasant and the atmosphere inviting. My family and I ordered the chicken sosatie, seafood platter and salmon salad. Everything was beautifully prepared and all the ingredients were of the highest quality. It was well worth the cost and it is refreshing to see a restaurant owner who truly goes out of his way for his patrons

Pretty meh overall. Got a vienna instead of a beef sausage. They also didnt have ribs so we had to settle for chicken instead. Place needs a proper clean. There is a difference between vintage and dirty.

Service is average, space is not very clean, but the food is excellent and makes up for other shortcomings. Remember to bring hand sanitiser.
