Initial visit: I walked in on a Sunday for an early supper so the store was not full. The service was very disappointing. I was about to get up and go when I was finally waited on. The waiter was friendly but I was already unimpressed by the amount of time I had to wait. I decided to try items I hadnt seen on their menu and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the mussel soup was (dont expect it to look anything like their advertising posters). Ill probably come back because Ocean Basket is good value for money - I just hope on that day the service will have improved.Update: After the disappointing first visit, I received a call from someone at OB Head Office and from the Cavendish store manager both looking to make amends. I accepted an invitation to come back to enjoy a meal on the house and, Im glad I did. My second visit was on a Thursday afternoon so the restaurant only had a few patrons dining in. My waitress, Melissa, was very friendly. Todays service was much better and the food did not disappoint. Its refreshing to have companies that still take customer service so seriously. Ill definitely be back 😊.

First time visiting this branch .Had a booking for nine people on the 12th June 2021 to celebrate my daughters birthday. The host at the door was wonderful and very accommodating when we asked if we could have a table set up in a different part of the store as the one set up was right by the door. She did not hesitate to change our seating. We were then attended to by Fiona ,who was nothing short of amazing and attentive during our visit. When the bill arrived, we did not notice that the tip was already included in the bill as we were a party of more that 6. We then added a tip to the bill and Fiona pointed out that it was already included. She was honest and we really appreciated that. We then proceeded to leave the store and forgot our take away meal and Fiona came to find us outside the store to give us our meal. Fiona, thank you for your amazing service!! We will definitely we returning.

My favorite place to eat at when ever Im in Claremont. The food is always fresh and delicious. Ive never had a bad experience with service, the manager is really friendly I cant remember her name though. The waiters are really accommodating and friendly especially when I go with my kid theyre always checking in and finding ways to keep the little one entertained so we can enjoy our meal. I love the new set up as well it has a more spacious feel to the place now.

The name ocean basket is synonymous with choice and fresh seafood and this branches quality did not disappoint at all.With seating indoors and outdoors, this is very popular and can fill up very quickly.Initially service was a bit tardy, but after starters it improved tremendously.Toilets were clean and the store has a nice ambience and vibe.

Myself and family visited your eatery on Saturday 2nd October.The most horrible service and experience ever,wont be going back there at all.Always check your take away before leaving the restaurant as I was very dissapointed when I got home and saw the food I was given.We had a sit down which was also unpleasant,waste of money and horrible service.Took a waiter 20min to take our order.

The food was average but it was good. The service is quite quick and I love getting complimentary bread before my meal comes. The waiters are also friendly. The milkshakes are great and worth the try. I went end of the month and there was enough seating for many people.

The service was excellent. The food came out quickly and the waitor was friendly. Freshly prepared seafood and tasted delicious. I had the Baklava for dessert. It was average- rather small and the ice cream tasted a bit sour.

We ordered the platter for 2 for takeout this evening. We were very disappointed to find that the rice was off, it had a strong smell which should have been picked up by the kitchen staff. The smell made both of us feel quite ill and we were not able to eat the rest of the food.

Food good quality, Melissa,is an asset to the company. Manager removed the cost of the drinks due to our complaints about lax management.

Im generally satisfied with most of the food served at the Cavendish Ocean Basket. However, in the 3 occasions Ive been there in the last few months Ive poorly cleaned fish every single time. The first and second time I finished my food told the waiter and manager after I had paid for my meal. This time Im here writing this review 🤷🏽‍♂️

One of the most memorable experiences Ive hav to date. The waiter was very friendly and visited from time to time to make sure everything was okay. Never have I ever received sush poor quality food and service. I will not visit again. First the sushi arrived cold and then the platter arrived with old fish. Our oysters didnt arrive. Our top up drinks didnt arrive. Our waitron didnt bother to check in on us. A different waitron came to check if we were okay. Poor! I will be taking this up with our head office.

So straight to the point. The oyster tasted ok but it was small. The Queen platter was very big, recommended for 2 people. And last too much calamari.

Mindful of covid, great food and service. Marked down one star as I would like a larger cup of coffee available.

Food was delish,but service wasnt up to standard, waiter didnt do his part. Not sure if he had to many tables to serve, but he was just everywhere. We waited a while for our food, eventually it came but not the kids food because waiter forgot to place there order because he wanted to memories everything in his head because he didnt have a pen and paper to write down our order. I literally got aggitated because it wasnt nice that the adults had food but not the kids. We then didnt wanna eat but shared our food with them so long. We didnt evens get suffice napkins, my sister had to take out her tissues for us. When we asked for the bill waiter then went on to go serve and clean other tables. Manager then stepped in. Not one of the better Ocean Baskets and wasnt impressed with their platter. The waitress was beyond inefficient - we felt as if she was doing us a huge favour to serve us - when she actually got up off her butt from behind the counter to come and check on us. Id rather drive a bit further for better food and service.

The service was pathetic. First we waited on a table for 2 but was placed at a table for 4. We requested to be seated at a table which was empty and was told to wait at the front again until the table was cleaned. Along comes a couple and they are allocated the table we requested. Eventually we got another table for 2. Ordered a pot of tea which came without warm milk as requested. Had to wait on that as well after i asked for it. The rolls came to the table,freshly baked and warm but was raw. So I sent it back. Another plate of rolls arrived which was also raw. The waiteress said that there was a lot of people and thats why they trying to hurry with the rolls. I cancelled the rolls. Then our platter for 2 came, placed some chips,mussels and rice in my plate and along come another waiter just to tell us that it was not our platter and took it away. No appology or even sorry we made a mistake. We eventually got the correct platter and the food was good. Overall was very embarrasing not a good experience.

It was a relaxed atmosphere. Our waitron was very polite and friendly, however we noticed that there were alot of waitrons standing around not doing much. The food was well prepared and tasty. Pink Lemonade is always a favourite when going there.

Food good waiter good and friendly But kitchen staff needs attention

The new set-up is refreshing and management helped with a group reservation I had to sort out. Our waitress was not the most enthusiastic of persons to wait on our table. Other than the waitress, the food was ok. I tried their sushi and seafood platter, standard OB kind of meals.

The service was fine and the food good , the staff was friendly. But i think the portions are not value for money any more.This time around the fish and chips was very nice and the service much better. Still one of the best places to have seafood.

Restaurant quite nice, food is always great and tasty. Menu has a good variety to choose from, both seafood and a bit of vegetarian options available. Sushi is okay, tasty but sometimes the seaweed they use is very rubber like and difficult to chew. Not sure if I just get them on bad days when it is like that, but almost all the times I had their sushi, it was the same problem, although this is still a restaurant I would recommend.

If I could rate your service negatively, I would. On Friday evening, I decided to treat a good friends mother-in-law to some seafood before her trip to Tanzania. We were met with what was the worst service I have received at any restaurant, ever. Mark (the manager) was so sarcastic when my friend tried to explain how she was treated by one of his staff (Michelle). He took it as far as telling my friend. Im so sorry, we should be so grateful for you, we should be on our hands and knees and kiss your feet when you walk in here. At this point, I explained that Michelle was annoyed because we asked for tomato sauce thrice and sent an incorrect order back to the kitchen. I witnessed her virtually throwing my friends platter on the table and looking at her with disgust, not a word said, and walking off. Needless to say, 75 year old MILs dining experience was ruined, friend never ate and I was so embarrased to be the South African at the table, more so when my friend asked him if they treated her badly because her skin colour was so dark. How terrible! We are beyond disappointed, Mark and Gareth and all your staff. Gareth, you kindly confirmed my reservation but could not step up to our table when your staff treated us so badly. I do believe Nelsons apology was sincere but I still cannot believe I wasted so much money at Ocean Basket! You will never see my business again. Especially not after we could clearly see you all laughing while observing us.

We went here for dinner with family, decor and setting was very beautiful and relaxing. Our waiter Joseph was tops and he recommended us seafood Shipwreck for 2 Captain platter to share between 9 people which was very good and the prawns were large and juicy, mussels were cooked really well and in a nice garllic sauce, Great service indeed.

A lot of Ocean Baskets have closed with poor service and food but this one was superb. The calamari was excellent, the scampi sushi was great, and the service was outstanding. Food arrived in within 5 minutes. The waitress was efficient (Shantel). Great all round.

This Ocean basket is a decent branch of the large seafood restaurant chain. The service was decent and our meals came quickly after we placed our order. They do a range of seafood options including platters of various sizes and varieties. They include things like fish, prawns, mussels, calamari, rice and chips. The food tasted good and the presentation in the hot skillet pan is good. They also do a range of sushi which is also good. They also have kids menus and some colouring books and activity books for the young ones. All in all I would recommend this restaurant for a lovers of seafood and large groups.

When there for dinner tonight the restaurant was almost empty. I ordered a salmon and avo salad R95, it had 5 small pieces of salmon and about 8 small cubes of avo. The bulk of the salad was thumb size stale croutons, tomatoes quarters and raw cubes of baby marrow the salad dressing was very nice. Neither the waiter nor floor manager come round to see if we where happy with our meal. Needless to say that was that worst salmon salad Ive ever had.

The vegetarian sushi is incredible. The chef is an artist. They also know what vegan is, which is helpful. Great experience, well definitely go back (and not just because they dont charge corkage). Also, they give you chopsticks in paper not plastic! #saynotoplastic

Always enjoyed ocean basket but its a pity I cant enjoy it from home. Ordered via Mr delivery today and Ive been sick to stomach after eating that meal. My fish was tough and unflavored even though I asked for Cajun and veggies watery. Not impressed at all. I see theres another review about a week ago on the same thing which is really worrying!

I was very disappointed with the service at Ocean Basket in Claremont. My husbad and I went for supper at Ocean Basket tonight and was abruptly rushed to finish. Our table was cleared after barely finishing our meal and was brought the bill soon thereafter without us asking for it. I casually asked the waitress why she was in such a rush and she blatantly told me she worked a double shift and was tired and wanted to go home. I wouldve been sympathetic to her situation if it hadnt been for the rude manner in which she responded. This was almost an hour before closing time. I was very upset because OB is one of our favorites and we always enjoy the food. We will not be coming back to this branch any time soon.

Ocean Basket @ Cavendish Square has never been disappointing. Always order the platter for 1 which has a good variety & generous portions so if you are hungry look no further 😜
