I took my family to the restaurant to treat my dad for his birthday. I made a small note on the dineplan booking app that were celebrating his birthday. We had the most amazing server, Charmaine: As she welcomed us, she also congratulated him on his big day, to his big surprise. The hospitality was only surpassed by the excellent service, food, and wine. A big and sincere thank you for making this a memorable day.

We spent a whole afternoon at La Motte. It is an absolute gem and there are much to do. Wine tasting, a top restaurant, a meuseum, some walking trails and the lovely well manicured gardens to explore. An absolute must visit.

Best food, friendly service. Stunning experience

It was hot out there on the road. So I decided to turn into LA Motte, which I had never been to. Imagine the surprise, a lovely welcome, great coffee under the spreading oaks and ample lawns.

The restaurant is at a winery. Their wine list is extensive. Non of the non-house wines list the vintage on the menu. It’s a non starter. Had to send the waiter back 6 times for the vintage.The octopus in the starter was chewy like leather. It’s just a typical Fish curry with extra Sugar added. Not a culinary achievement. Unless you looking for a good sauce to finish a loaf of bread with.We took a 1 hr nap between the starters and main. And the restaurant was empty. I guess everyone else knows the place has gone to the dogs.The trout ravioli was sent back. The pasta was dry and like a sheet of plastic. The trout was dry and almost impossible to swallow, and sticking to the palate.The lamb cutlets we over fried. Again too dry to swallow.The goat was acceptable but yet nothing to make make a markThe venison was just above acceptable. I actually enjoyed the dish.Checkout the pictures... the food presentation is pretty good... but looks alone doesn’t do it.Beautiful setting

Probably the finest dining experience I have had in the Cape. Their Skaapstertjies (tail of the sheep) was superb. When you drive through those gates you feel this is a special place. From their food themed chandeliers to their side plates designed like an artists easel to tie in with their Pierneef collection, this is a restaurant that oozes class. Moreover they are so reasonably priced. And their kiddies burger is even better than that burger joint in Stellenbosch that wins all the prizes for Best Burger in SA. High on class. Easy on your wallet. A magical place.

This place is exceptional, I had one of my best meals in this restaurant. The food was excellent, the gazpacho was just out of this world, the best I have tasted so far ....every dish beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The outdoor area is beautiful and has a nice and zen vibe. This place is definitely on my top best restaurant list.

Gorgeous decor, layout, venue, setting with delicious food. Fantastic for an indoor/outdoor lunch. 2-course and 3-course menu options. Food is presented beautifully and staff are very attentive.

This place is absolutely magnificent. One of the best gourmet meals that I have had the pleasure of eating. The place is absolutely picturesque, with a museum as well as a store to purchase their local produce and wines.

We felt like royalty when we arrived. Nothing was too much to ask. We were greeted with a friendly welcome from the reception right through to the museum. The kids meals were tasty and I can recommend the cheese platter. We didnt plan on staying but Im so glad we did. Looking forward to our next visit there. Will go on a Saturday the we can fit a wine tasting in as well.

We went to La Motte to do their Harvest Experience (vineyard and cellar tour followed by wine tasting). We then indulged in a harvest platter at Pierneef Restaurant. La Motte is the most gorgeous Cape Winelands venue with towering oak trees, a beautiful manicured garden, and delicious food and wine!

Wow the 3 course meal with wine is superb. Service excellent. Beautiful views!

A nice place to have lunch in Franshoek. Scenery is also nice around the estate.

The place is nice but the welcome needs to be reviewed. No advice when you order wine at the restaurant and not a thank you after paying the bill…

Such a stunning vineyard. Lovely restaurant as well. The food looked great and the presentation was wonderful. The starters and mains we had weren’t as great as we had anticipated; some tasted a little bland. Desserts were excellent! Service fantastic! Kids menu and fun activities were a plus. I would go back!

Exceptional food. Service was a little sleepy, but the food was on point and ambience was excellent. Wine pairing was good as well.

Great food for a reasonable price. The venue is really nice and impressive. They offer a book with all the recipes. Definitively a place for a romantic dinner.

This must be the largest collection of Pierneef in the world. Also spotted a Pablo Picasso and lots of fantastic Irma Stern works. Incredible building and gallery.

Very smart vineyard. Didnt buy any wines from here but the grounds and the buildings are fabulous. Its a must see.

Wonderful staff and well trained. Was impressed how they look after the garden furniture to cover them with canvas. The gallery is in the best of taste. Makes me feel proud to be a South African and a family that shares their precious artworks with the nation!

Good service, limited menu, but something for everyones taste. Cheese platter was a bit disappointing.

From the moment you entered La Motte, you are whisked away into another world. The meals are exquisite: beautifully presented, delicious and with excellent service.The Cape Winelands are blessed with some of the finest restaurants South Africa has to offer. After many visits to La Motte in the last five years, I can honestly say that it is still one of the best lunch experiences you will ever encounter.

Good food perfect scenery

I recently visited La Motte for a Saturday lunch experience.From the moment we entered La Motte, we were whisked away into another world. The meals were exquisite: beautifully presented, delicious and with excellent service.The Cape Winelands are blessed with some of the finest restaurants South Africa has to offer and after my visit to La Motte, I can honestly say that it was one of the best lunches I have had so far.

Here I’m reviewing the winery and the museum and not the restaurant at the estate. The estate has a well curated museum revealing that past and present of the estate. After the art-attack we went to get knocked with the generous wine tasting experience - a must try - and of course we ended up buying few bottles.

A beautiful farm! The meuseum is a must then enjoy a cup of coffee in the beautiful tea garden.

One of the best Sunday lunches Ive ever had, we had the family sharing lunch and the food was perfectly cooked (except for the cauliflower soup which had too much rosewater in it for my taste). But the lamb was just extraordinarily good. If you are in the Cape area you must eat here. Try the Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot Noir, its delicious.

Lovely garden setting. Very tasty charcuterie platter that paired perfectly with the sauvignon blanc. Finished off by sharing a divine cheesecake dessert and coffee.

Highly recommended, especially the outside area. Stunning views and good service.

Stunning! Beautifully crafted food. We had the pairing menu and wine was portioned generously - so much so, after our courses we took our wine and sat by the inside fire lounge area and relaxed until we were finished. Definitely recommend it for a special occasion

Very nice wine

My wife visited with her friends yesterday.This estate looked very luxurious.But the service was not good.She ordered Red Cappuccino. It was served not warm, a stone-cold red cappuccino.And the waitress was not kind or friendly. She never smiled.The food was too much expensive. If you are not millionaires, you won’t be happy with the price.If you visit this estate, expect nothing but the luxurious atmosphere.

Just plain and simple beautiful. If you havent visited yet...its overdue.

Wonderful lunch at #Pierneef #restaurant . Beautifully presented plates accompanied by single vineyard wine from the estate. Staff ensured that we have an enjoyable experience throughout. Close to the main road leading to Franschhoek.

An up-market venue to taste wine with a few cheeses to compliment the pallet. A bit on the pricey side (as with any good wine tasting venues). Definitely worth a visit!

It was so amazing! Their food was so delicious and have a wonderful history. If you havent been here at Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant then you should come otherwise you are missing out on a lot of things.

An excellent restaurant in an excellent setting. The interior is masterly designed and matched by the food and wine list. Booking is essential. Take some time and also do a wine tasting at the cellar as well as explore the Pierneef museum, which must have the greatest volume of artworks by this famous South African artist.

Wonderful venue under the large trees. Food is good, but pricey.

Sitting outside on the deck is a pleasant spot that overlooks a large pond with dragonflies, however, cigarette smoke drifts in from the nearby garden area. The food was a real let down; trout starter that lacked any real flavour, dry bread and a beef sirloin main (that wasnt the dish ordered) was insipid. The staff are friendly. Avoid this place and treat yourself to a true culinary experience down the road at Le Lude.

This was the most beautiful experience. And then the great Riaan Cruywagen walks in and makes my day. The place is beautiful beyond words and so peaceful. Romantic is definitely a word to use too.

Exceptional venue. Great value for money. albeit some might find it a little on the expensive side. Keep in mind this is more than a cut above the rest of estates. Waiters were all very friendly.Rump steaks were well prepared. Shoulder of lamb was excellent. Smoked potatoes could have done with slightly more smoke.Sauvignin blanc was perfect for the 33°C day. It did come alive though after further chilling.

One of the best meals we had in all of South Africa. Even lunch is incredible. Ever changing menu of local ingredients (and game). Beautiful landscape and views

DisappointingWe booked here for a big family lunch on a Sunday, the set menu option (which should have been a warning sign). I thought the venue and service was very good, but the food average. Food was a bit tasteless, and sometimes too salty. If youre more of a quantity than quality food person, then this is not a bad option.The Pierneef gallery was closed on the Sunday we were there, not sure if its closed as a rule on Sundays.

Culture of excellence - I dont think so...I have been planning a visit to the Cape Winelands for over a month for overseas family visiting. I wanted to bring my mother-in-law for afternoon tea at Pierneef. I looked on the website and say nothing about period for the reservation needed and thought I would phone this morning while heading out to make our reservation.I am bitterly disappointed as when I phoned I was told that I needed to make my reservation 24 hours beforehand - no exceptions.What this means is that you have lost the business of 4 people for tea this afternoon, but more so, I will spread the word that your website does not give correct information and that you are highly unaccomodating. From one bad review, you will most likely lose more than 4 peoples business - and that is on you.It would have cost you nothing to have correct information on your website, and very little to have tried to make a plan for us for this afternoon.Very sad that we live in a world like this...

Had a late lunch just before closing time. Our Quiche and Cheese platter starter was nonetheless excellent. The Sauvignon Blanc hit the right spot and will try to find it in my local bottle store.

It was a very nice experience to visit LA Motte. Although the 5 km walking trail is not open jet, will be open on the 17 Sept weather permitted.

One thing about Franschhoek Restaurants ,they the best in the hole country. Best food , wine and desert.
