Went to La Motte primarily to see the textile exhibition, which was well worth the visit, fabulous works including weaving designed by Cecil Skotnes. A huge bonus was the exhibition of work by Pierneef, beautifully hung and with a history of his life and works and a video about him.The sculpture garden is peaceful and the shop has some lovely gifts. Came away with a bottle or two as well. All covid regulations were adhered to.
Absolutely loved the beautiful farm. Wine tasting was great and staff was very friendly and passionate about the wines. We had a great time!
Beautiful place to visit.Pierneef Gallery and tapestries too magnificent.Wine and food tasting room a wow! area to go to, too and the staff there, so welcoming.Excellent meal and service.Had a great day at La Motte.
Yesterday we popped into La Motte for what is now known as our “most memorable experience” since lockdown started. Each interaction was heart warming, refreshing and most memorable.HIKING AT LA MOTTE🗻Did you know that La Motte offers hikingDo not ask why I choose a #citygirl outfit for a hiking trip💁🏾. I was led to believe it was a non strenuous walk through nature and was obviously not prepared but we move and made the best memories #OpDieBerg . An unforgettable day indeed.ONE CANNOT VISIT LA MOTTE AND NOT HAVE MOSBOLLETJIE 🍞To enjoy a mosbolletjie during harvest is a blessing but to savor a mosbolletjie made by Ricardo (the Baker) La Motte is an absolute privilege. It gets no better than this.Franschhoek Visit SA Winelands Hatch Communication
The exhibition was fascinating and wine tasting a lot of fun. A truly enjoyable afternoon.
La Motte is a fabulous spot - photos dont do it justice. A well kept spot nestled in the beautiful Franschhoek wine country. We visited with Escape+Explore in collaboration with Hills of Africa. Everything is beautifully manicured on the estate grounds - total eye candy! We had lunch which was delightful & all of the dishes were tasty - next time I want to stay longer and imbibe in more of the wines!
Loved the fireplace! Perfect for wine tasting on a winters day 🍷👌🏻
Staff were friendly, engaging and very accommodating. I was very impressed with the thought given to decor, which felt light but purposeful. I love the furniture and friends were fascinated by the chandeliers, which seemed to have been carefully crafted. The food was bursting with flavour. Such thought given to complimentary flavours in perfect proportions, shines through with every bite; one I havent experienced in a long time. Wow to a unique fusion of flavours crafted by the Chef! The portions served also made it well worth the culinary experience. Highly recommend it.
A first-class wine tourism destination that offers something for everyone. Beautiful scenery, lush gardens, award-winning wines, delicious heritage cuisine, culture, a hiking trail and more! Brilliant hospitality too. A must visit wine estate in the picturesque Franschhoek wine valley.
BEAUTIFUL Estate. Immaculately maintained. Magnificent tasting venue and friendly, competent staff
Ive always loved La Motte wines so you can imagine how excited I was to visit this venue! From start to finish it was an incredible experience. Having some wines in front of a crackling fire, the ladies helping with the tasting were incredibly friendly, and with such good quality wines.....it is definitely worth the drive out! The wines are available for purchase and at quite good rates too. This lace is a must visit on your trip to Franschoek.
I spend 3 hours on the estate but it felt like 1. The wine tasting was super. The museum was just amazing and the restaurant does everything perfect. It was 36 deg celcius but the abundance of trees and shade made for a cool and relaxing lunch.
We cant wait to come back. Beautiful Estate and friendly staff. Thanks Jacques for the tasting, we loved it.See you soon. James and Vee
Beautiful wine farm with a museum and restaurant. Best wine farm tasting and very reasonably price R60 for 7 wines. Cosy fire
La Motte is a lovely estate. Small but with lots to see and do. The restaurant, Pierneef a la Motte, is a really visually stunning place, and it offers indoor, outdoor and deck seating overlooking the pond. They offer an excellent range food choices with various menu sets. There is also a fascinating museum, in honour of the famous SA landscape artist, Pierneef. (Entry is free and it is worth a visit.) There is also a small farm shop and a chic winetasting room to enjoy at the estate.Edit: The newly appointed chef has daily / weekly specials on top of the newly revamped menu.
I adore La Motte even though everything in it it is completely out of my price range. Nevertheless, it is filled with all kinds of unique touches e.g. the different cultivars at the entrance with the information plaques is provides fascinating context to the grapes in the region. The gallery space is small but superb - I am immensely grateful for the owners to allow the public viewing access to their exquisite collection of Pierneefs. The museum/ gallery is enough to have turned me into a regular visitor. The square within the complex, with the lovely shady trees, is absolutely beautiful.
You can taste wine grapes here. Along with wine tasting and a nice restaurant
Lovely estate, great restaurant and gallery. Always a beautiful, relaxing experience
Poor service, certain customers who came in afterwards were given preferential treatment while we were left to wait for longer than others to be addressed or served.
Lovely place!! We had the best time there.
Incredible food wow. Shocked. Sublime perfection. No mistakes. My hake was transformed into something complex balance and easy to eat. Just sublime. Best lunch I’ve had in the area.
Outstanding afternoon lunch with friends, having tried a couple of the other tasting areas, La Motte was brilliant, Staff was outstanding, lunch was amazing and the wine! Well the franschhoek certainly delivers some great wines!
Its a full wine and lifestyle experience... The drive towards the main building is prestine and how about that Tasting Room with a view of the cellar, furthermore the restaurant and art museum. I cant wait for an invite to sample some of the cuisine paired with La Motte. Great wine range too by the way...
Let me take you their. Highly recommend
Good value for money at the wine tasting, and kind staff. Jacques gave us a good experience!
Lovely food is a beautiful setting.
Beautiful wine farm. Food was a disappointing. But ambience and service was great. Just a pity we coukdnt enjoy a glass of wine with our lunch.
The restaurant and hotel are beautiful, the service and presentation is great, but we were definitely not impressed by the food. Since we had to drive all the way from Stellenbosch, it was definitely not worth the drive :-/
Always excellent! Love the baked cheesecake!!
La Motte Wine Estate directs the threshold of visiting experience to a point of almost saturation, in summer it is beneath the shades of green, in autumn it benefits ochre, in winter it is beyond the cool blues, in spring it beholds the brightness of life.
Nice wines, great service
If you like fine dining at affordable prices its the best place!
Fine wine tasting experience in an estate with great facilities, awesome views and terrific farm shop. Big thank you to Reynald/Reynaldt for your great service!
It was a great experience good Art and wine. There are a fantastic restaurant. I will recommend it to everyone.
Cant go wrong with this first class venue. Always a good experience with very professional service.
One of the best wine farns we visited. The beauty and neatnes of the place impressed us. The gardens absolutely beautiful and so is the restaurant area. Must for all wine lovers
Beautiful vineyards. Nice wine tasting. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable.
Well worth a visit to this beautiful estate.
Must be one of the best winerys in South Africa. Absolutely beautiful, wonderful restaurant and lovely art with some of thw best wines you wil ever taste! Enjoy!
Excellent Boer feel about it, in terms of excellent quality food, decor, friendly staff, and reasonably priced. Oh and...........the peacefulness priceless.
Very nice
Nice location, interesting wines
This place i really discover the present of God and my faith is lifted up in such my spiritual ears can hear the voice of God probably my faith is another dimension so that God can work through me to at others. i rate 5
Beautiful estate. Great wines.
My wife visited the restaurant with her friends yesterday. This estate looked very luxurious. But the service was not good. She ordered Red Cappuccino. It was served not warm, a stone-cold red cappuccino. And the waitress was not kind or friendly. She never smiled. The food was too much expensive. If you are not millionaires, you won’t be happy with the price. If you visit this estate, expect nothing but the luxurious atmosphere.
A class of its own. Simply stunning views. Down to earth, friendly service. Wines ranging from excellent yet affordable, to top class. The Pierneef museum is a must see!
Beatiful place!
Love hanging out here. Feels like home. Food is amazing. Service friendly and professional. Wine is great. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Great place to visit. Each time is a special moment in time. Whether it is to do a wine tasting or to have lunch on the estate make sure you put this place on your places to visit list. Friendly staff. Attentive service with great attention to detail. Come out and relax at #LaMotte #wine #estate #Franschhoek #DiscoverWC
Excellent wine tasting experience. Relaxing light lunch on the lawn under trees. Amazing experience!!
These people are serious about marketing their wine. The place is impeccable. The surroundings are stunning. The wine tasting facilities are very luxurious; the people are very helpful with tasting. It might be commercial because they want to sell their wines. In my case we just wanted a taste and buy a single bottle but we were treated as special as the next guest. You can have a walk in the vineyards and have a guide through the cave if you fancy.
Beautiful lunch in a beautiful setting. Our server Charmaine went out of her way to make our lunch special. The food was well prepared and the portions were modest but very filling. If you have an opportunity to visit the attached gallery there are also fine works of art and many historical references.
Out doors for coffee after visiting the Art museum
Delicious food and very good service
Tasteful wine warm welcome by security officers
The ambiance was exceptional inside the winery. Tasting was an absolute pleasure and wines were magnificent. A must do for anyone visiting the western cape. Outside the building is a lovely grassy area leading you to the restaurant and other areas of the farm. The entrance is a superb looking farm decorated with roses.
As always a wonderful experience - must have food - art gallery and excellent wines. Loose yourself in the shop or visit the informative vineyard - a must!
We had a fantastic lunch experience here. The food was beautifully presented and was absolutely delicious. The wines were equally superb.
Wondering if they hire qualified employees to host tasting. The girl who is our host got super swamped also didn’t look like she is knowing much or liking much about their own wine.
5 star service. One of THE best in the Franschhoek area
La Motte has always been high on our must-visit list but has, unfortunately, succumbed to the general trend towards quantity over quality when it comes to tourism in Franschhoek. We arrived at 1pm on Saturday and tried our luck to have lunch at Pierneef without having made a booking. Imagine our excitement when several tables appeared available. And imagine our disappointment when told by a very young, very rude and very disinterested receptionist that all tables were fully booked. But ok, we proceeded to sit in the wonderful garden looking forward to what was billed as a light lunch on a first-come, first-served basis. We found a spot. The waitress came. No lunch menu but instead a choice of fried chicken, a harvest platter, fish sandwiches or a cheese platter. Not exactly a riveting light lunch smorgasbord of choices. When asking what light white wine she suggested for us, the waitress couldnt respond. At a wine estate, mind you.Minutes later we were joined by a large tour group, probably from that hideous wine tram they run between all the estates. We cancelled the food order but stayed for a while to just observe. Not one (!) of the empty tables got filled between 1pm and 1.45pm when we decided to leave. So La Motte and Pierneef turned us away purely based on what? No appetite to seat us? Because we were a mixed-race couple? Imaginary guests taking up their tables? What a disappointment!
Great vibe - garden is probably the best Ive seen in the Winelands! Wine is spectacular! Great information on their vineyards.
Great wines, nicely priced, excellent atmosphere and friendly service. Would recommend.
Food not good had to return steak dish twice as not cooked as requested. We got the last booking we were told but the restaurant more or less empty the,two hrs we were there!!service however very good but staff seemed reluctant to tell the chef re complaints we had with the food
Excellent wine tasting experience and Pierneef art selection.Cannot miss.
Absolutely hands-down the best wine tasting and food experience, superb service and the gorgeous setting make this a 5star experience.
A perfect setting and surprisingly reasonable. Superb food and exquisite wines. If you are wine tasting in the area, it is a great place to stop and relax, families with children are made to feel very welcome.
I always enjoy La Motte Wine and after a radio interview with the chef at the restaurant we decided to spend our last day in Cape Town at the Estate. Everything met our expectations except for the service at the restaurant that did not do the food justice. We had to order our mains well in advance and after we had a great starter we waited a long time just to receive a cold main course that did not justify the great taste that we could have enjoyed if the food was hot. I ordered a rare steak and my partner the fish. All credit to the chef on the amazing food that were prepared but being served cold was so dissapointing. Our waiter never enquired if the food was good so we did not have an oppurtunity to complain. I would have expected more than what we received for the amount we spent. An unnecesseraly dissapointment that would influence my future view of La Motte
Exceptional experience!
A superb winelands experience! The stunning cellar and wine tasting room, beautiful gardens, restaurant with vaulted ceilings, magnificent mountain backdrop and art gallery combines to make this an unmissable experience when you visit Cape Town. If you have time to visit only one wine estate, then this could be it.For the energetic types there is a +- 5km steep circular hill walk - not tried by me! Bring walking shoes etc. if you want to walk.
Fantastic.
Great service and expert advice on wine! Will come again.
The quality of food and of course wine is outstanding. Visited for both breakfast and lunch, equally as good. During Summer, having lunch next to the pond, with a glass of Chardonnay, is highly recommended.
Very informative wine tasting with exceptional wines.
Excellent tasting and recommend the 5km walk.
Great atmosphere and very professional staff. Had food from the small plates section and it was fantastic.
La Motte is an amazing winery! Its been around since the 1600s and their wine is phenomenal. The landscape is beautiful and the tasting room is a mix between vintage and modern architecture. La Mottes staff is very friendly and has a lot of knowledge about all the different wines they offer. They make an excellent Merlot and Cab Sav!
Beautiful property. Beautiful wine. One gets a great sense of history and thoughtful decoration in creating this space and the various experiences it offers.
Sunday Family Lunch - absolutely stunning. Loved the food, ambiance and service. Will definitely come back!
The wines are exquisite and the piano recital with Ben Schoeman was world class
Amazing amazing..... Top restaurant worth the trip out... Wines cheap on the menu matched with stunning decor and well presented fine dining 5 stars
