Steaks were excellent, kingklip was disappointing. My guys enjoyed their Guinness. I live nearby, and will be back. My glass of wine at the end of the evening of was generous 😜

Went there with wife and 4 year old child. The service is friendly and good. The food is great. (Mild was still too spicy for me.) But they dont aim for families as customers, which is of course fine. It has the vibe of a pub. There are some tables in a non-smoking area. The more inside area is for smokers and a lot of people smoke there and are loud. The door between the two areas is open. I wont recommend families to sit inside. But if you dont mind loudness and people drinking a lot and the pub-vibe, then enjoy!

What friendly staff and relaxed restaurant. If it wasnt deadly warm it wouldve been the perfect Birthday dinner. They are dog friendly and happily brought her some water .

From the outside this place looks dingy. So when we pulled up to the restaurant we had doubts about this place. We couldnt have been more wrong about this place! The food was absolutely divine! We had the best peri peri chicken ever! It was so tender. The eatery is frequented by regulars which speaks volumes about the place. People wouldnt keep on returning if there was something wrong with this place. The other patrons were so friendly. This is a wonderful place to get great food and make new friends.

Magnificent. Has that homely village pub feeling without being grimy. Excellent food at reasonable prices and friendly service.

Absolutely the best portuguese tavern in town. Espatada is certainly a winner. Staff are great and the owner is a legend.

Friday night called for fish and chips take outs. Ordered 3 fried fish and 1 grilled to try out. Both were delicious. The batter on the fried fish was light and the grilled hake had a delicious lemony herb sauce. We will be making this a regular weekly take out. Friendy staff and the service was quick!

One of Cape Town’s lesser known Portuguese taverns is also the best of it’s kind!Great atmosphere, varied menu and generous portions. I like it more than the ones with navigators names 🙂

Overall a good, unpretentious little place. Most tap beers are ice cold, staff is friendly, food is good (I am sure the Portuguese stuff is great, Ive only had the Trinchado and pizzas).4 stars because service isnt always fast. Pizza took about an hour on our last visit. This is understandable because it was super busy. We will be back for value meals and frosty beers.

This tavern has a great atmosphere. The service is friendly and fast and the menu has a wide variety. We had a garlic pita and crispy calamari tenticles for starters, beef espatada and mussels for mains and the obvious Pastei De Nata for dessert. Everything was tasty and they are currently accepting the Entertainer App.

I would give it 5* if it werent for the smokers having the main restaurant and the non-smoking area gets all the smoke when waiters enter this area.Food is very good to average. Service in general good. Make a reservation early, it is always very busy.

A friend and I decided to drop in since our car had broken down a little way up the road, and I can say overall I was pleased.Unfortunately, the outdoor area is tight. And I mean cramped, but I guess they did their best with fitting into local legislative constrains, the fence is so close to the benches there is an art involved in getting into place. However, being tended to by polite, courteous and upbeat staff from outside the fence made for an entertaining visit.I did not venture inside, but it did look welcoming and cosy.Overall, the pizza wasnt anything to write home about. Why do SA pizzerias as a whole discount the tomato paste as a core ingredient? To be honest tho, the prices for the Portuguese cuisine looked very reasonable for the location and the excellent service was the difference between 3 and 4 stars for me.

If you like something really unpretentious between a dodgy pub and an old school Portuguese restaurant this is the place for you. Really good, authentic South African Portuguese food at a reasonable price, a bar and sport on tv. Smoking inside and slot machines in the back just add to the atmosphere.

I wasn’t sure if it was the perfectly blended chili sauce, or having once again had the best Portuguese food experience and service outside of Portugal, but I became emotional during the meal and might have shed a few tears. Goaded on by the rest of the table, I’ve written this review. If you are in Cape Town; local or tourist, Villa Taverna should be counted as unmissable. Ignore other restaurants; the acclaim of this place is fully justified. Tendai’s knowledge and warmth capped it all off. Enjoy.Ask Tendai for favorites

Lovely place with good beer and great food for great price. Chicken piripiri is very recommended but if you rly like a spicy food, start with only hot before you will get so super hot :)

Had there been any form of humanity in this world left, I wouldnt have broken incredibly fought for 60 days of sobriety. Used to be a constant patron at restuarant for years & spent loads of money there, yet asking One tiny favour tonight which would take 2min and where waiter would be more than sufficiently reimbursed, but nothing. The fact that ALL human beings seem to have zero concern for fellow humans and ONLY exist on this earth to make profits, terrifies me.! TO the Manager who would not help me & then refused to take my calls (& thing that pushed me over the edge back to drink), I am not blaming you personally, yet if you had helped my tiny favour, I would have been sober for another days fight. So my message is: while we are all working ourselves to death, sometimes, someone comes along that just needs a little kindness, which could change the course of their lives... Karma is a reality and any good done, always finds its way back. So tonight, I have my old supposed pal, alcohol, to turn to, yet this was never a true pal and killing me... And the self-hatred and disgust I feel, that I lost the will to fight.I wish for esp, THIS scary country, we live in, that people do little random acts of kindness... One may change the entire course of anothers life.

We ordered today from this place with Mr delivery. Chicken was so burnt, that I didnt feel any taste of chicken in my mouth, felt like eating charcle. 2 spanakopitas costs R1200 😱Such a disappointment. We paid R400 total for nothing. Better we would have ordered from sotano or elburro. Pity
