Even if you are vegetarian, Aubergine is ready for you. Great intimate ambiance. The decor could be much better , warmer & cozy, but the dinning takes the lack of design out of the window. Highly highly recommend it!

This tainted the good work done by the rest of the staff.Starters: Decent. Pricey and small but really creative and tasty (especially the aubergine soufflé)Mains: The disappointment of the evening. Pork belly was really bad. Incredibly chewy (my wife couldn’t finish hers). Crackling was soggy….one of the poorest mains we’ve had at a Cape Town fine-dining restaurant in a while…maybe we just got a bad cut but enough to not bring us back (especially with the likes of Belly of the Beast, Pot-Luck club, Utopia and Fyn around).Dessert: Opposite of the mains. Choc fondant was pricey at R185 but perfectly done!Overall: We had a great time, but not because of the food…the really poor mains left us feeling like this place could do so much better. With such a selection to choose from in Cape Town, R700 a head could be better spent elsewhere…

Coming to Aubergine was one of the most wonderful experiences Ive had. It is a superb treat with fine dining food. Inside is smart, yet cosy at the same time, they worked at not having a restaurant with lots of noise and echos which is so rare these days. The food is phenomenal! Dishes that have had alot of thought put into local produce, taste as well as presentation. The chocolate fondant is simply to die for! The Sommelier is an absolute gem. His knowledge is out of this world and we had such a good time talking to him and having him help choose the perfect bottle of wine for the evening. This is where you come to spoil yourself and have a culinary journey for the evening 🤗

They went out of their way to make our honeymoon extraordinary. The service is beyond amazing. The sommeliers and their choices of wine and knowledge are exceptional. The food is out of this world, the chef is simply just talented. Would give it a 100 stars if I could definitely my new favorite restaurant

We went here for our anniversary dinner. The food is great and service excellent. However, it was too hot inside and the tables/chairs wasnt that comfortable. A bit too formal and stuffy for us to go back but great food if you dont mind that kind of thing.

Superb setting, highly enjoyable experience. Diligent, friendly and welcoming staff, brilliant menu, and the execution is flawless. Best wine list in Cape Town. And the chefs flexibility to accommodate requests, remarkable. I had the best fresh, organic oysters in a while, and the fish served, superior. Highly recommended. Consistently of the highest order.

What a wonderful experience! Amazing atmosphere and ambience, delicious food, and meticulous service. We had the four course dinner for two with wine pairing and each was creative, beautifully prepared, delicious and made sense. For each dish a wine was chosen but we first got to taste it before to see if we liked it. We really felt like a lot of thought had been given to every aspect of the dining experience. This is a great place to go for a special event like an anniversary.

The waitrons and Sommelier were exceptional. The food is impressive and the wine options are amazing. Dinner at Aubergine is definitely not an every day spoil!

Perfection on a plate!

I had a great experience at Aubergine. The food was absolutely delish! They have a separate vegetarian menu, so ask for one if you are a vegetarian. I opted for Ravioli which was made just perfect with beautiful flavours. My desert was to die for. Additionally, you feel really looked after by the staff.

Aubergine came highly recommended and didn’t disappoint. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairings. The dishes were complex with more flavours combining than I would normally expect. The wine was exceptional. More expensive than restaurants of similar quality in SA but still good value vs. Europe.

Exceptional experience overflowing with passion and attention to detail. I am trying to find a fault, but can not. Yes its pricey, but worth every penny. To truly value the experience, dine with people who will appreciate whats happening in the background and understand what goes into what is being produced.

Very nice place indeed. We had dinner and did enjoy from A to Z this experience. Very friendly staff, great wine menu and wonderful cuisine with a twist. The menu is not exhaustive,which I personally like as well. Less is more lets say. We tried several dishes - all were tasty and the presentation was fantastic. Fine wines and a high quality espresso to end up.

I recently took my mum to Aubergine to celebrate her birthday. We literally walked in the door and were welcomed by friendly staff who were attentive and took great care of us the whole evening. Aubergine has the best wine list that I have ever found at a South African restaurant. However the food was still the star of the show. We had such a great time and I’m already planning my next visit.

Wonderful experience. Sommelier was very, very knowledgeable and was very helpful in picking out several wines. Chef took the time to speak with us after the meal and couldn’t have been nicer. Well worth trying!

Not worth it. Service was atrocious to say the least! Many other restaurants in CPT that offer way better fine dining.

First time fine dining and I honestly expected better. Service was odd, not friendly and welcoming but instead stiff and made us feel awkward. Food was obviously creatively made and presented well, but I had the lasagna and didnt quite fancy the taste of liquorice between the layers. Not many in Cape Town can afford the luxury of fine dining, but when you do go, you also dont want to be treated like a second rate citizen. We were surrounded by foreigners who seemed to have received the better, more inviting kind of service.

If there is a term; FOOD AND WINE-GASM, this is most certainly the place. One must come and taste for one self. WOW. Staff knowledgeable and caters for people with allergens.

The food is great, the service is awesome but the quantities are small and the price quite high. If Fine Dinner is for you and Gastronomic food then save up before you go.

I wanted to like this place a lot. The staff very fantastic and the wine insane. Personally, however, I dont think the food was worth it. Ive eaten at quite a few places in town that have more exciting food at better prices. Overall, very good, but at the price I think there are better options.

As you enter the place you are welcomed by a magnificent setting and there is someone at the door to welcome you. I recommend that one books a table UPSTAIRS if you are going to be a group and need a bit of a private function “feel” while still part of the amazing ambience.The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering dishes. We ordered from the Degustation Menu which offers a wide range of absolutely amazing mouth-watering food variations which is paired with wine. The food was exquisite!All the products were fresh and the dishes had the warmth of home-made food but super exotic. The chefs take great care in selecting the best quality ingredients. The restaurant also caters for all tastes by providing a large selection of the best wines of the region, which are all worth sampling.The service completely compliments the high quality of the cooking. Everyone is smiling and Herald, the owner is always around willing to exchange some kind words with all his clients.I always have pleasant dining experience with food of the most exquisite flavours. For this reason I highly recommend going to Aubergine if you are in Cape Town.

Overpriced beyond belief. Probably the least impressed food wise Ive been, ever. Food wasnt very good, the presentation was shoddy and the price comparatively to this was ridiculous. Ive eaten a lot better for a quarter of the price elsewhere (anywhere). The only positive note were the waiters, who were pretty attentive. Not recommended at all.

We are having mixed emotions after our stay at Aubergine. The wine and the service and the desert was perfect, but both main courses were absolutely not at that level, that the price and the habitus of the whole team will suggest. The fish was very dry at the edges and not even medium in the middle. The lamb seemed to be from an old lamb with a very strong lamb taste. We had a perfect one 2 days later at Maria´s just around the corner. With that, we have chosen for many other restaurant during our stay in Cape Town.

Exceptional dining experience, I spoke with Catherine and simply said we are booking for anniversary dinner, when we arrived there were flowers spread on table, a special menu displayed and set for us as we are vegan and a dessert treat from the Chef had been arranged, I would definitely recommend despite it been an expensive dinner, myself and my husband were treated as King and Queen, I will certainly do it again, Wowzer!!!!! Excellent high end experience in cape town. Superb wine list. Every plate was too notch and was very happy to try warthog and springbock. Didnt see warthog on another menu in the 2 weeks we were in the country.

A dining experience at Aubergine is always a highlight! Multi- award winning and uber talented Chef Harald is innovative, uses seasonal ingredients and show them off with flavour and presentation like few others. The sauces are intense and always compliment the specific dishes perfectly. He has a lightness of touch that makes you want to come back again and again!

We called and got reservations, but when we arrived, they didnt have us on the list. This was frustrating, but they didnt make us wait too long to find us a table. I think they went out of their way to fix the mistake, but really never owned up to it, which was fine. The wine list was really nice. We had pretty good appetizers, but my entree was just ok.

The best place to dine in Cape Town. I doubt there is any place that can even come close in terms of service. Great service, delicious food and friendly staff. Please make sure you pay a visit and experience it yourself. The owner came out for a chart and it felt great to hear the man narrating the history of the place

Aubergine, should have been a great night out with fantastic food but turned into an over priced, mediocre restaurant at best. I made the reservation for three at eight oclock, when we arrived we were seating outside. The outside garden wasnt horrible but patio furniture and lack of decor and ambiance didnt match the food prices or the wine list. The only things I can say I enjoyed were the caviar and the wine, which they source not make. The food was not good or even great, didnt finish anything plated in front of me. No salt or pepper which is very much needed. We had a larger party come out to the garden and made it feel more like a pub. We even left early without coffee or dessert because of the loud party, smoking cigarets and invading our table. The only thing I can say is the wine selection is huge. Thats the only plus. I would not recommend Aubergine and definitely will not be going back, honestly a waste of money.

Most amazing fine dining experience.

The food is beautifully presented. Each meal has its focus item and the taste/texture is amazing. The wine pairing is great and the selection of wine is expandive. Each meal is unique and destinctly Aubergine. Chef Harold is very down to earth, amazing to speak to, full of character and devoted to his food. I thoroughly enjoyed the environment and character of our server and each quirk of each meal.

Fake class and disorganized staff.We went to this place expecting a quote to service Food and Wine. We got a Way too warm, noisy disorganized place, that forgets orders, comes late two pair wines, and does not have a clue to even ask if we are satisfied with the service or do we need something else.A real disappointment.

Ok, my wife and family friends were really excited to experience Auborgine during our recent trip to Cape Town, visiting from NYC.I must say, everything about this place was odd to us and way overpriced for what we got. We all had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing R 1,500 per person + gratuity! This is way overpriced. I have no problems at all paying for fine dining but this wasn’t at all fine dining. The food was mediocre as was the service. The wine was better.We had about 3 or 4 different servers throughout the evening ... zero continuity throughout the night. The restaurant was very hot which made it very uncomfortable. The ambiance also wasn’t great. Odd crowd ... not trendy at all.Needless to say, I am trying to warn others about this place. Don’t get fooled into thinking more $$ is better .... it’s totally not the case here. We all walked away saying to ourselves, “what a let down!”I’d suggest, that if you’re visitng Cape Town, almost any restaurant in the Surhern Suburbs is better. Even the most casual of places.please don’t be fooled!!

Our anniversary dinner was spent in the company of this little but precious gem in Gardens on Saturday evening at 20:30.On arrival, the staff are so professional and friendly. So very attentive to detail and never too far away to attend to your needs.We were explained in great detailed the special request items on the menu. Even twice, the waiter on duty was too willing to re-explain to us. We decided to go with the Asparagus Liaison and Veal for starters. As well as the Pasture-Reared Beef (Sirloin) for mains.The Sommelier on duty was magical in pairing our starters and mains with suitable wines by the glass. As my partner was driving, we decided to be responsible and not do a bottle instead. The amount of detail in his explanation of why it would work was amazing and refreshing. The sense that he knew what would work, just eased our minds on the wine - as we couldnt decide.The amuse bouche, which was a creamy fish soup was beyond amazing! I have to admit, as the waitress put the dish down, I was ready to be disappointed by a watery soup. I could not be any more wrong! The soup was amazing in taste, it was so light and creamy. Like nothing else we had tasted before. Now we were excited to taste more.Starters arrived and the nice thing about exploring new restaurants is not knowing what you will receive. Both pleasantly surprised at how our starters looked, we jumped right in. Again everything worked so well with the dish, the flavours, the textures and the presentation.The wine so crisp and light on the pallet to compliment the meal. It just worked!Mains arrived, not too long after. And once again our new wine pairing came with the meal. There were these yellow things on the plate which were amazing. So amazing, we had to ask the waitress what they were?? Turns out it yellow or golden beets! A beetroot which is not red in colour and way sweeter. Who knew?!I have seen a few reviews from people saying the portions are too small. However, you need to understand the preparation and that its more about the taste and flavours than having your plate overflowing with food.Aubergine, thank you for a very lovely evening. Filled with sophistication and excellence!! When I saw the menu, I was convinced and I longed for a beach view but your service delivery and food more than made up for this.We even got to chat to the chef towards the close of the evening. Finding out more about his processes and where the meat came from. Such a lovely touch of personalization and intimacy that we didnt expect.I would gladly recommend you to anybody. Anybody who is looking for the intimate, sophisticated dining experience. Where attention to detail is key.
