What a fabulous, award winning restaurant on top of the hill over looking a wine farm and the sea in the distance.set menus to choose from. Definitely go hungry because the food is superb! A real taste sensation to delight the taste buds. You need to book a table do that you won’t be disappointed if you don’t get in. A must visit when in the Cape.

Awesome location for a relatively impressive gourmet restaurant. We had a slightly disappointing experience with some of the service though most of the staff attempted to be helpful. The food is quite interesting and dishes are mostly delicious and well prepared. The portions are a little small though even when compared to other high-end gourmet restaurants around Cape Town. Still definitely worth a stop for a bit of fine dining but would recommend an early evening visit to enjoy the stunning views from this beautiful restaurant.

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish!! We had the taster menu and every bite was interesting and exciting, the presentation is beyond beautiful and the stunning view and decor compliments every aspect of the meal and atmosphere of the restaurant!! The staff are absolutely amazing and so knowledgeable about every single course and drink that they serve, we were fully impressed by the restaurant. The drive up on its own is already beautiful, the architecture of the building is so unique and suits the whole vibe perfectly! I would definitely recommend that everyone enjoy a meal here at least once. My mother wasnt crazy about the more adventurous courses but thoroughly appreciated it for what it was and still enjoyed every moment. The only thing that I personally feel would possibly improve the experience is a non alcoholic drink pairing option but other than that I can 100% see why they were voted the best restaurant in South Africa!!!

5 out of 5, but I wouldnt say its the best in South Africa. Food is good, service is good. No complaints just not the best according to someone that knows almost nothing about fancy fancy food. I wanted some kind of juice paring or something as I dont drink grapes that are old. Some other fancy places offer this. But it had the vibe that if I asked for it it might have been frowned apon. The prawn thing was really good.Cheese thing was not.Venue is also really good.

Outstanding Michelin quality restaurant in the iconic Waterkloof wine estate. Fabulous views in all directions, stunning architecture and thats before you eat a thing. We had the full tasting menu with wine. Each wine matched each course beautifully and the service was impeccable. Among an evening of highlights, two stand out for me: the oyster dish in the starter group, which might be there best oyster Ive eaten in my life, and the glorious langoustine main course. But every course was marvellous. A great evening. Highly recommended. If you can, do book the walking trip attend the estate before your meal. Extraordinary views and two hours packed with interest and knowledge.

Some of the dishes were exceptional while others were pretty bland. Biggest issue though was poor service for restaurant of this reputation. When arriving early and asking to enjoy view on balcony was told it wasn’t permitted (?) but we could if we only took a minute. Was then asked to come back in by maitre’ d who should really look for employment in industry with less chances of being customer facing. During the evening we would continually be rudely interrupted by waiters with next dishes who clearly had received very little training about the art of customer interaction. Top 10 SA restaurant this definitely is not.

The views are absolutely breathtaking and we had excellent service that was fast and attentive. The waiters were very knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend the tasting menu with wine pairing as they have a great sommelier. Most of the food was really good with interesting combinations, however their dessert options were not to my taste - I mean who came up with the idea of pesto as a dessert?

We arrived at the breath taking building and view. Entering the building there was a lack of welcoming and some confusion as to what we are supposed to do or where we should go. Initially I was not impressed by the service, but once we sat down and ordered, it improved. I also expected n greater wine selection from establishment rated so highly, they only stock their own wines. The food was put of this world! We did the full 7 course, which after the extras (included but not listed on the menu) added up to a 10 course, my stomach reached full capacity. Glad I could experience this amazing restaurant, but a few small and inexpensive tweaks will make them contenders on the world stage!

We were middle of May for lunch. From the two available set menu options, we selected the one that included more starters, plus wine pairing. The plating of the individual courses was much less elaborate compared to what you see in posted photos. Maybe because it is off season, but nothing indicates that there would be a difference. My conclusion is, not to go there during that time.

Delicious food and potentially a lovely experience if you are sitting in the area with the sea views. We were seated facing the wine tasting area, which left us feeling awkward. Suggestion: install some sort of beautiful wooden half-wall separattion where dining guests have a more intimate experience. Although we were here for lunch, we were stunned at lack of dress code! One guy in a white t-shirt, shorts and flip flops. We’re Capetonians, so appreciate our casual lifestyle, but at Waterkloof?? Bathroom stalls not very clean and both times I used them there were no hand towels, so had to let my hands air-dry. Suggestion: hire a permanent restroom attendant to keep the toilets and basins spotless. This was certainly not “top restaurant” atmosphere or quality overall and left us underwhelmed. Will have to think twice before returning.

Coming from the U.S. my expectations were high however this restaurant was a total disappointment! My 16 year old daughter was served peanut laced foods repeatedly when the staff was told that she had a severe peanut allergy! Another friend was served a drink with a bug in her glass. The food, while the presentation was flawless, was lacking cohesive flavors and held hideous textures!I would NOT recommend this restaurant and Ive eaten in restaurants around the world!

Had a lovely wine tasting, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a story with each wine. Their wine is mostly organic so is a bit more expensive than most would be willing to pay.

Couple of reasons,- All the staff has an attitude problem especially the chef (not welcoming, smiling, etc.)- Serious hygiene problem - (we even got HAIR on our plate)- Food is OK but definitely overpricedWe tried several restaurants (~10) in Cape Town, this was by far the worst experience.Would NOT recommend to anyone. Food was well presented but not as good in flavor. The yellowtail ceviche was very good but the Mauritius sea bass was bland. The stuffed broccoli was impractical and fell apart. The gooseberries with the mussels was nice but nothing exceptional.Wine was great though and the circle of life white was very good.Service of staff very good, constantly filling the water and wine, food came quickly.Worst part was hair in my food which is probably because the staff dont wear hats in the kitchen, which is a poor management decision. They didnt charge me for the main but in fairness it is their poor choice not to wear hats.

Last ate: 12 Jan 2018We had to go back after Waterford was rated the number 1 restaurant in South Africa by Eat Out, and we were not disappointed. We tried the Degustation menu with the wine pairing. Only one course disappointed: the duck, which was surprisingly sub par. Every other course was sublime, and we discovered the beautiful Circumstance Viognier from the farm.I’m still salivating over the maroilles tortellini amuse-bouche. What a decadent starter or main that would have made! The Mauritian sea bass was another wonderful surprise.

The combination of beautiful sea views and Chef Greg Czarneckis incredible skills makes this one of my best restaurant experiences ever. The Waterkloof Wine Estate itself is a stunning modern glass building sitting high on the hill overlooking the Strand, hands down one of the best venues and restaurants in South Africa! I would recommend it to locals and visitors alike. PS - If you have time for a leisurely lunch, try the degustation menu, amazing!

I was extremely disappointed with my visit to restaurant at Waterkloof. We are busy doing the eat out top10 and I was extremely excited to visit the restaurant just by the looks of the food on their website. The view is extraordinarily and the staff very friendly but apart from that I was dissapointed. The food was not plated at all like the photos on the website and I was extremely dissatisfied with the portions. The gentleman sitting next to me had the same main corse I ordered only his was twice the size of mine. I will certainly not be visiting them again.

We are back in South Africa 1.5 years after eating here, and I am baffled by all the good reviews that makes this restaurant still show up as one of the best in the area. When my wife and I went to Waterkloof, we both opted for the degustation menu, which isn’t cheap. What we experienced was maybe appropriate for a (mediocre) fast food joint, but not a restaurant that claims to provide high quality food or service.1) We waited for about half an hour before anyone came to our table for the first time to ask about drinks or even water. In the meantime, a number of tables were seated and immediately served. Not a great start to feel like you are the least important people in the restaurant.2) I had a hair in my food. Clearly not from myself or my wife, as it was cooked into the food (and about 15cm long). When alerting the waiter, the food was quickly removed, and a new plate was brought (I hope it was fresh food, but it arrived within 2min, which made me a bit wary). No apology was issued at all.3) We ordered dessert wine, which took 30min to be brought to our table. About 25min in, our waiter came to us and told us that the wine hadn’t been in the fridge, and they were trying to get it chilled. If we had been told that early on, we would have just picked a different wine. To be fair, the wine was given to us for free in the end because it took so long.4) To top the experience off, I sent an email alerting management to these issues. I didn’t want to throw a restaurant under the bus without giving management a chance to provide an appropriate response (that’s why I am only reviewing this 1.5 years later). Well, no response at all was given, which makes me think the restaurant is pretty happy with their beautiful location and recommendations by tourist websites etc. without caring about their actual customers. We have done about 10 different chef table, set menu etc experiences at nicer restaurants in the US, Europe and South Africa, and this one was by far the worst, while also being one of the more expensive ones. As a matter of fact, this restaurant is worse than any of the other wine farms I have eaten at in the Stellenbosch, Somerset West and Franschhoek area (and we have eaten at many given I lived here for 6 years and still come to visit every 1.5 years). Don’t let yourself be fooled by the beautiful views and take your money elsewhere.

I was most disappointed by my meal at waterkloof, mise en bouche of grated radish was a joke, the starter was microscopic, the main; mauritian (?) seabass was extremely salty but thankfully it came in a starter size portion. Bad. Extraordinarily, expensively bad. This tasting experience is a colossal waste, not just of customers money but also in effort by the staff. Competent technique and presentation just end up appearing pretentious when food tastes this dull. The maitre d service was unprofessional (bored uni students?) and the wine knowledge -- at a wine estate -- was beyond pathetic. It was non-existent. The only redeeming service of the night was from Ismael. We opted for the tasting menu and out of 6 dishes, each rammed full of unnecessary flourishes, the only things that impressed were a concentrated tomato and a basic goats cheese and pistachio brittle cheese course. The grilled aubergine masala starter was utterly forgettable and the smoked salmon starter could have been better made by a housewife with ingredients from a supermarket. Blood orange panacotta in the shape of an S was a standout letdown, accompanied by a bland sorbet. The head chef spent the night chatting on his iPhone while bottles of Coca Cola lay visible in the kitchen. For $100 a head in South Africa? I dont think so.Even earning dollars, I feel robbed. Hope they sort our their business because it left a bad taste in the mouth at an otherwise beautiful venue. Wine is at least recommended.
