On 17th of October 2021 I brought my 5 months old baby. Such poor service and treatment received. My daughter was given a supposetory and sent home. She is still very sick till today 21 October 2021. I will be taking her to another hospital, as doctor did say she is critical needs hospital admission. I was highly disappointed by this, as Westville has always been 1 hospital that has treated me and seen other people as well with excellent care.

Very poor parking. Quiet signs all over the place, but staff make such a noise. Food good - if its what you ordered. Dont go to the toilet during delivery time otherwise you miss the delivery. The wireless is TOTALLY unacceptable. Have to buy earphones in order to watch the pathetic television offering. The parking attendants and there are lots of them all hanging around the the reception area trying to be tough and important. would NEVER recommend this hospital. Please make an improvement on your new pay parking system..One is given 15 minutes free parking after which one pays a fee.A number of us were behind someone who had exceeded 15 minutes and had not paid. The boom would obviously not open for that person and attendants/security were running backwards and forwards trying to assist.Thi resulted in traffic backup and frustration as we waited for a resolution. In addition to that, everyone was worried that their 15 minutes would be up by the time they got to the boom. The positioning of the exit boom is another concern...on a steep hill.Come on Westville Hospital, not enough thought went into this system..Increase the free parking to 30 minutes and move that exit boom to the exit gate!!Make a pay facility available in the vicinity of the exit boom.

It is undoubtedly the WORST hospital I have been too. On comparing notes with others that have been badly treated by Westville I am convinced that they have dishonestly been shrugged off as professional complainers for trying to expose the truth. . Please be aware and careful if you have elderly members of your family. They treat old people extremely badly, shocking in fact. By the way do I need to tell you I went there with a bad back, they confirmed I have a pinched nerve, but after 9 days I was discharged the 4th time, and yes, I left with a backworse than I went in for and NOT ATTENDED TO because of bungling by the hospital. The case manager and 2 Indian sisters need to be fired. As for their Dr R. and an orthopedic surgeon Dr. M. I asked for a different Dr but the Indian clique ignored me and he returned every time, like a pesky mosquito, after discharging me 3 times. The hospital refused to transfer me to Entabeni which is a better option by far. I will NEVER EVER trust them with my life. I will be sending a full report to my medical aid. Please DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST before taking a chance at WESTVILLE HOSPITAL. If you have been a past victim of this hospital please contact me with the details.

The hospital is clean, staff friendly and food edible. Admissions and preadmissions departments seem to be in order. However, the general surgical wards are poorly designed with no toilets or bathrooms in the rooms, so you would need to leave your room to do anything which makes no sense. The nursing staff were good but response times were too slow, sometimes 10 minutes to get a nurse. They have to be reminded to change bedding, remove drips or even clean wounds. When you request tea or something to eat after starving for an operation that can take up to 2 hours before you get anything.

Being a private hospital there should never be a case where there isnt a duty station that Is not manned, especially for covid screening in front. After finally finding out the information I needed to get at reception, I went back to wait outside at the covid screening station. The covid station was finally covered by a nurse over twenty minutes later. You get better service at some government hospitals.

If I were rating just the nursing staff that I dealt with when I was admitted I would’ve given a rating of 4 starts. Besides having to wait a long time to be seen to when I was admitted and waiting a very long while when I was done at radiology, the staff were really pleasant, helpful and went beyond to make my stay not too bad. The doctors however were a nightmare and don’t deserve any rating at all. They just didn’t care, they lacked empathy and I don’t even think they wanted or tried to give me a diagnosis. They did the bare minimum and that’s it. To make matters worse, I was prescribed totally wrong medication. Naturally, I got a second opinion and I got a diagnosis, when I looked up my diagnosis, turns out I had textbook symptoms, those stupid doctors should’ve been able to diagnose me and to proscribe me with medication that I told them I was once on and explained the outcome of it, was just sloppy. If it was just one doctor that I had this experience with I would say it’s a doctor problem but having the same experience with 3 doctors, I say it’s a hospital issue. It’s the hospitals duty to make sure the patients are treated in the most humane way possible, like they matter not just one more patient they get to charge for coming and walking past their bed.

I was in and out of this hospital last year due to complications in pregnancy. The maternity ward was dirty and we had to ask for it to be cleaned. The food was not good, as I am diabetic, but they had a problem in getting diabetic bread, despite being right next to Pavilion. In addition, when my baby was discharged, the nurse on duty Lisa, removed the peg from my 4 day old babys navel, without asking or informing me. The hospital claims that it is normal procedure, but I have spoken to lots of women who had their babies at the Westville hospital, and the peg was not removed. The hospital has failed to provide names of mothers whose childs peg was removed and they say because I am the first one to complain. My childs navel was bleeding and air went into his navel. He was in a lot of pain. I had to take him to a pediatrician who had to give my two weeks old son, medication for pain.

Westville Hospital is a nightmare , but lets not get ahead of ourselves, not everyone can be classed into that category. On Tuesday evening we were referred to Dr Gathiram at the hospital as he had prearranged admission for my son into a hospital ward. After going through trauma unit & reception, we were sent up to Ward D. And this where the nightmare began....This was just before 6pm. We were not greeted upon arrival at the ward not shown which bed my son was to occupy. I took his file through to the nurses station, only to be quite vaguely told he should get into the bed near the window. My son requested we seat him up in his bed only to find the bed broken. After requesting assistance from staff, who tried to adjust the bed continuously, we eventually moved him to the next bed. My son had arrived a wheelchair due to him suffering stiffness in his hip, leg and head. He also had a high temperature, excruciating light sensitive headache and had swollen joints and lots of sores around his face. Our gp wasnt sure if he had meningitis so referred us to the physician Dr Nischal Gathiram. As he didnt want to interfere with diagnosis, our gp had simply given him 2 panado for pain & fever. We waited more than half an hour before a nurse could do blood pressure and temperature checks and fill in forms. We had forgotten to carry his chronic medication in our haste and without filling out these details I was asked to sign incomplete forms. Dr Gathiram still hadnt been up to see us. I asked twice if he had been contacted to be made aware that we had arrived at the hospital and was told that he was coming back to the ward shortly and there was no need to contact him. I was upset at my son not receiving any treatment and it was just before 8pm. I wslkex out the ward and called my gp and explained the situation. I asked him how to go about moving him from this hospital to another where he would be seen to.He told me to request a non acceptance of treatment form.I rushed back to the ward to find that the dr had arrived. I was very irate and took off at him and explained that we actually hadnt been attended to since arriving and was wondering why he hadnt come through. He took it all in his stride and explained that my son was wrongly sent to an incorrect ward and needed to be in a room on his own so that the lights could be turned off.I explained that all we expected was treatment, not even special treatment. Just regular acknowledgement of the fact that there was a patient in the midst and highly incompetent staff who hadnt noted down important info which could affect any medication prescribed.I didnt want my son to be subjected to such carelessness and requested a move out of that ward or else a complete move out of the hospital. The sister in charge refused to evrn acknowledge how she had said that they were busy with handover due to night staff coming onto duty. She was rude and ignored us.By 9pm my son had now received a drip, had bloods taken for testing and the blood technician had also lost one of the needles in his bed! We awaited a CAT scan at 10pm and was moved out of the D ward into B ward. Now what a difference!!!We were greeted back most pleasantly and Sister Sihle and Sister Nonhlanhla were extremely professional and down to earth in manner. Sister Sheryl, even though busy was not even the slightest bit rude.I was assured he would be in great hands and that I could call whenever to check on him.Sister Sihle also gave me the most unexpected reassuring hug both that night and the next.I felt at home and knew that I could leave my son and go home, knowing he was seen to.Dr Gathiram has risen to the task of making sure my son received the best possible treatment and has made his stay short but pleasant and with great results. My son is still in hospital, will probably be discharged tomorrow and I thought I had to mention this. I also showed the head matron the notice placed at admissions that state Westville Hospital staff treat everyone the gentle way.
