I am blown away by the experience I had at AAK.What a dynamic and spectacular team. I was admitted on the 8/9/2021 for a procedure and from the very entrance of the hospital with the security guard right down to the maternity ward i was treated with respect and dignity. Every staff member upon my admission to maternity including the young lady at the emergency screening area, admissions clerk to the porter who escorted me to the ward was fantastic. The care I was given was of superior quality! Thank you to all the staff at maternity for your care patience and love during my stay May God bless each and everyone of you. You guys made my recovery so much more easy and I really admire the pride and patience yourl portray with each patient. Highly recommended.Love Kayla Jade

I was there this afternoon between 4pm to 6pm. My daughter was feeling light headed, vomiting and she fainted. I took her to the 24hr emergency at ahmed al kadi. We went into the parking where the screening is located, I requested a wheelchair because she couldnt even stand...the nurse on duty then started to fill in the form while I was still holding on to her ... she then proceeded to say my daughter has covid19 upon hearing that my 13 year old fainted again thereafter she was out on a wheelchair and taken inside... there were two nurses on the inside (didnt get names because it was such a rush) they didnt do any tests or give her drips or anything of that sort she was just left to lay in the waiting room until a doctor arrives .... we waited over 1 and a half hours and there was still no doctor!!! Waste of it being a 24hr emergency service. We werent allowed to be in the hospital with her because they said she had covid19 and we may have it too ( this without a test being done) ... I got tired of waiting and decided to take my child to a different hospital. Would not recommend especially in an emergency!!

Just left outpatients now. My fil was attended to by Dr Pillay and Sister Diamond who were by far the most rude and unhelpful. The Drs bedside manners were pathetic and awful. Both him and the sister refused to communicate clearly with us. Discharged the patient without briefing us on what medication and treatment was given and what should or shouldn’t be given. I approached the dr and sister to query medication and treatment etc and was totally ignored. I previously have had many pleasant experiences at this facility and it’s sad that unprofessional drs and nurses will drag your facility down. Please change your profession Dr Pillay as you don’t deserve this title.

To the entire staff. Thank you for a warm and comfortable stay in your hospital, may God truly bless each and everyone of you for your hard work and kind hearts.I was in the maternity ward, the nurses were very helpful, and informative. I never agreed to anything without full understanding of the procedure, they were so kind and patient. As a first time mother labour pains were traumatic experience but the nurse made sure I was comfy and okay.Without all those wonderful ladies I would have experiencd anxiety and collapsed with fear. They are the best nurses in Durban big ups to them for the world classic hospital care. And my greatest thank you goes to Sister Vash. You are truly amazing 🤭❤️🥰. This lady got me through my delivery and made me feel like a champ.

I was keen on trying Ahmed Al-Kadi as I had previously been to Parklands and have been happy, but was nonetheless keen to try out AAK. The welcome and reception went great. Then I was put in an isolation room, and the temperature set to absolutely freezing. I had on a jacket over my pjs and couldnt get warm. I was told staff avoid coming to those rooms unnecessary due to the temperature, but that the temperature could not be turned off. Worse night of my life, or so I thought. Overnight the drip came out and thats when my problems only started. I was told I needed a new drip the next morning. One or two staff tried, but couldnt get the needle in. Finally one sister came and tried and it really hurt. I told staff that the site hurt. Eventually I was given antibiotics and the whole site went red and it burnt. I was told its the meds and they stopped the meds. Never once did anyone check to see if the needle was put in properly. I went into theatre later the day and meds were administered through the needle. Once again I mentioned that it hurt, but once again not much attention was paid to me. When I got out of theatre, they tried to persuade me to stay overnight, but I had enough. I wanted the needle out as my arm was in so much of pain that I had to carry it! When they took out the needle, my arm was red and swollen and the needle was bent! Totally croocked! I was told thats probably why I had so much pain. It is three days later and my arm is still badly bruised and still pains. My arm still feels cold to the touch and I have been sleeping a lot. Which lead me to speak to other Drs and were advised that the meds administered through the needle had gone into my tissue and that it could cause long term damage and that there are still probably meds from the anaethetist in my tissues and that is leading to the sleeping state I am in.

An amazing hospital, had a great stay at maternity ward, food was delicious. To the nurses who treated us like queens, please keep up the good work as your work does not go unnoticed. To the others, please note that us as first time mothers will be expected to be nervous, afraid & confused of the unknown and I would think that its part of your job to make us feel at ease about the whole transition as it is something new for most of us, not to make us feel like you are doing us a favor or we are a burden to you.Otherwise, everything else at the hospital was excellent.

Absolutely shocking! I just wish that I had not already booked my babies birth at this hospital or I would never set foot here again.Edit: so when my breakfast finally arrives so does the cleaning lady so Im trying to eat but she is mopping the floor around my feet. Hi im Mr Pillay a regular patient at the above hospital . I must compliment the hospital nurses in the wonderful work theg do in taking care of all the patients. I must say that the disappointment thing about the hospital is the management and the catering. Ive been in and out of the hospital over the past one an half year being admitted in all the wards and even been to theatre for a hip replacement one done last year and the other done this year I must compliment the three doctors for treating me they DR A SINGH DR SHON PILLAY AND DR SHOOKAN . I write this because the hospital catering company does not cater for the patients but look at how they can make a huge profit at the expense of the patients. The menu from the time ive been admitted was the same for breakfast lunch and supper over and over again. The famous breakfast is egg chicken sausage which is the cocktail ones with mushrooms and bake beans. The chilli chicken was like puke which i wont even feed my dogs . When i raised the issue with the catering company they blamed the hospital management for budget cuts yet all meals are included in your stay which is covered . I requested a number of times to meet with the HOSPITAL MANAGER but the matron kept making excuses for him . She always stated he was busi in a meeting .only to realize that the hospital was changing manages like the matron changing her underwear because she kept lying to me and the manager never got any messages. On Monday 2020-11-04 i decided to go on a hunger strike and did eventually got to meet with the manage and once again he passed the buck onto the catering company . The manager of the catering company stated that they jus took over this year but they did not change the menu that the other company had but modified the design of the print on the paper. My doctor stated that six of his patients also complained of the food . My doctor was worried that if i continued with my hunger strike my sugar levels will drop and i end up in a coma . He was prepared to buy me food although he home and bring it to the hospital .The manager was supposed to give me feedback after meeting the manager of the catering company but did not nor did he check with the ward if i was ok . It seems to me that the management have no idea on how to run the hospital and the matron is a show girl rather than being hands on . If the Al Kadi foundation gave monies for the hospital to be built .Why would the people who received the funding only own 40% shares in the hospital . The hospital is only three years old but its falling apart . The taps the building itself so can the chair of the hospital board please inform the community as to what is going on in the hospital .Can u also confirm if the hospital sold 60% of its shares to the community. If so then id like to know why do u guys dictated how the hospital must be run ig youll are not the major share holders.

HiI had brought my baby in for admission in September, I was the border mother staying with him at the hospital. Baby and I was screened for covid, only to find out the next day that I was covid positive with not 1 symptoms at that time,. Dr Kader had brought the news to me, I was devestated at that time. I then had to arrange my nanny to come over and stay with baby since I had to be also be admitted, and be isolated. Dr S Naidoo the most caring dedicated doctor had came and saw me and transferred me to the covid ward. From the very minute I entered the covid ward I was so welcomed by all the staff,I was so nervous, anxious, scared but the nurses re assured me, spoke to me and encouraged me from the very beginning, saying that God had brought me to this and he is going to take me out of this. Told me not to be afraid as they will be with me every step of the way. Im so proud of the dedication that they have shown to us all pts in the covid ward, they never feared to totally give us that 100% care and attention. They had always put us the patients first before anytin else. The humbleness and dedication and compassion was beyond what I had expected. I want to say a very very big thank you to Sr Minaaz, Sr Patricia and Sr Sarika who have nursed me most of the times. You all have went over and above showing me the love and support and have made me stronger to get thru to this illness. 🙏🙏🙏May God bless yourll and protect yourll all the days of ur lives. Went in for my son @ paeds the worst experience Ive had in all my time spent at hospitals, from admissions through to my stay and when I was discharged ... totally disappointing.Nurses are not focused on their work ... have to keep repeating yourself when requesting assistance. The mothers couch provided was not in full working condition, the reclining part kept jamming... I was not even given a pillow.Usually one is welcomed into the hospital and given a brief guide of where the things are like the bathroom or kitchen nothing like that was done. I arrived the Wednesday evening after spending time at admissions waiting on my sons bed to be made because it was already booked. In the ward random nurses just walk pass you no one advises whats happening.I placed an order for my morning breakfast and was asked if I would like tea that same time I came in .. unfortunately for me I never got that tea and neither was I going to receive my breakfast if I hadnt complained with the kitchen staff. The Friday I ordered a mutton bunny for supper and so did the lady across from me ... so disappointing but to add to matters she finds a huge thick metal screw lodged inside her bunny ... it made my stomach turn to know I was eating from that pot of food.My sons linen was not changed on his cot from the time we arrived Wednesday until Friday evening .. the bathroom door in the ward kept jamming leaving mothers stuck in the toilet.I will not recommend this hospital to friends or family.... its disappointing.

Good medical care, somewhat friendly service just not all the staff. Very clean hospital, has safe parking but not enough, it gets very full. Good security. My sister was admitted at this hospital and from the time she went in she was attended to very well, however not all staff is as attentive and patient there are a few rotten apples in the bunch which as family we had to quickly sort out. Coz I feel some nurses seem to forget that a hospital is not a holiday destination, when I person in admitted it is because you are seriously sick not for fun so they should be more sympathetic and understanding and sensitive to each patients individual needs. Its unfortunately for them what their job entails. If they fail to do so or unable to, then they in the wrong profession. Remember it only takes one bad experience with one nurse or doctor to spoil your whole experience with the hospital. So staff should be constantly reminded what they pledged for when you have staff meetings there, if yoll do. As family we should not have to deal with bad staff attitude whilst we have a sick family member to see to. But like I said, its not all staff. Other than that, my sister recovered very well, thanks to the medical treatment and recommendations from the doctor

She laughs when I tell her Im hungry because they made me wait and I refuse to take medication on an empty stomach due to ulcers. I hope someone can rectify this because it seems like she belongs in government health care and this hospital should uphold its good reputation. The other staff were so amazing.

Maternity ward is excellent and most of their staff members are caring and joyful. I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone. Dr Mitha is an excellent paediatrician and helpful. He kept me updated and so did the neonatal nurses. I was checked up on regularly thru out the day and night by both shifts. I do have a few complaints, maternity nurses and NICU nurses have a lack of communication. The sister/nurse in charge, Sister Naidoo was unethical and unprofessional towards me and my midwives. There is place for improvement and i hope slight changes will be made for the best care.

I was very uneasy before the procedure could start, the anesthesiologist was extremely nice and patient with me, also he did a good job with the spinal block, I havent suffered with my back afterwards. Also Dr.suliman did an amazing job that I was able to walk the day after, after 3days I never needed any pain medication. C section cut healed with the first week. I was back to normal extremely soon. Maternity award was very good, specially a nurse named Sahira saib who was there during my c section and cared for me afterwards. Also mandisa and busi were extremely good with my baby. Dr.t.mitha was also good with baby, as soon as he saw she had jaundice, he got her tested and treated for jaundice while I was still in hospital. No hospital is extremely perfect, night staff were very good but a lil crazy. Only one nurse raeesa went against my wishes about bottle feeding my baby, that just ruined my whole breastfeeding and baby has just ended up on formula only now. I would highly recommend this hospital to everyone. I have been to terrible hospitals before, so this is surely the best hospital in Durban. Dr.a.s.Suliman(gynecologist) and Dr.t.mitha(paediatrician) have rooms at the hospital.

I was admitted at Ahmed Alkadi Hospital on Monday 5th of November 2018 for Ulcers . On Tuesday at 17:00 i was told to eat because i will be going to theatre the next day ,so the whole of Tuesday night i was given Prep to clean my system , so the whole of Tuesday night i was up and down at the toilet, when I got up in the morning on Wednesday at 10:00am i was informed that medical aid hasnt authorised so I must wait and was told to phone for authorisation myself using my own airtime. I did that because I was desperate to go to theatre because of hunger, i used over R100 airtime trying to get answers from medical aid, but medical aid kept saying they didnt receive any paperwork from hospital asking for authorisation. According to hospital they sent paperwork to medical aid at 15:50 On Tuesday. I spoke to case manager on Site she said its medical who doesnt wanna authorise. I then phoned back medical aid they said case manager only sent paperwork on Wednesday after 11am after i have complained. I waited and waited hungry but there was no authorisation only to find out from medical aid that the case manager on Site has sent medical aid wrong icd codes and thats why theyre not authorising . Two case managers came to see me after 15:00 to tell me its not their fault it medical aid, to cut long story short at Ahmed Alkadi I was starved from Tuesday 17:00 to Thursday after 11:00 am when I came back from theatre, funny part is that i was not given food for the entire day but when the night shift came on Wednesday i was given Prep again to clean my system. I was very weak at that time had a terrible headache from hunger but I didint get help .Im very disappointed in the incompetence of staff of Ahmed Alkadi ,they dont know how to treat patients with care because Ive never experienced this kind of service before in other hospital when Im booked to do a scope. It was the worst experience ever. I dont see myself going to that hospital again, its such an unfortunate because we pay a lot of money to get good care at private hospitals and they dont deliver, they worse than a public hospital .If I was in a public hospital i wasnt going to complain but I was paying to be there and was expecting high class service, how can you starve a patient for your incompetence its not fair. I was sick but I had to be the one phoning for authorisation . I could nt wait to get out of there because I was not getting any help, they kept giving medication on an empty stomach, I was Very angry and disappointed. I wont even refer a friend to that hospital, another thing Doctor gave me script while I was still on the ward to get some medication but i did not get those medication i was told medical aid dont cover it, i must go and buy it on my own when Im discharged. According to my knowledge when you admitted to hospital all medication is covered in hospital because hospitalization benefit is unlimited. I think as well they couldnt order medication properly or they were out of stock not that medical aid dont cover it. I took that script to Clicks when I was discharged and they said they dont keep that kind of medication its only in hospitals that keep such medication , so I ended up not getting help again, so meaning i lay in Ahmed Alkadi for four days but did not get any joy from that hospital.I wish this email could be taken seriously by the hospital because they will lose patients if they gonna continue with their incompetence and it was a Joke to even theatre staff that I was starved from Tuesday, they kept asking me how many Kilos of weight Ive lost since I was not eating, like really can you joke about something like that!Thank You!
