Half price Sushi Wednesdays were fun here... You say its half price & then only once we get the bill do you say oh no, only these ones are half price. Added R350 to my bill. I also said my order 3 times & specifically said no seaweed due to an allergy to it & what happens, my sushi all comes with seaweed & only half of our entire order was brought. I will not support another John Dorys ever again. Unethical & terrible service.

A fave! the best John Dorys in Durban in terms of quality of food and great taste. The service isnt always the best - but their sushi makes up for it! I eat here at least once a month!

Food wasnt bad. Sushi was very out of proportion, I.e. Lots of rice with very very little fish especially the fashion sandwich. Out of the sushi the bomb was the best, rest was fresh but not enough fish. The prawn and calamari combo was nice.

There is excellent customer services and the food is very delicious, it was my first time trying seafood and I absolutely liked it. I highly recommend. Oh! And the ocean view is magnificent. 10/10. Well eat again

I had a great experience there ,the staffs are very well mannered , the manager is super friendly. The food is very delicious ,I ordered the seafood platter , the ambience is good. Lot of space for a get together or birthday party . They even does home delivery. Reasonable prices . Its inside the ushaka marine world , so a fun way to end your family day with good food 😊

It is a nice simple place to be a customer service there is very excellent you get whatever you order in time youve got enough space you see the Ocean by the edge of the place this place is very nice you need to protect the ocean for the cell is on point everything and beverages so it quite interesting cuz it also accommodate children & adults

Service was terrible. The Sushi that we ordered was completely unproportional, too much rice and not enough salmon. The dish we ordered for my son came cold with chips almost raw.The waitress seemed to have no time as she basically threw our plates and glasses onto the table.

Best view of the Durban Waterfront in my opinion. Clean, serene beach promenade. Restaurant is well setup and comfortable. Food and drinks come out quick and cooked to order. Parking in Ushaka is ample. Can also use parking B on the side of Ushaka to access promenade without going through Ushaka.

Thank you to Vah and her wonderful energy, brilliant customer skills, and always going the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The food just gets better everytime. The sushi is well presented, always fresh and delicious. A special mention must be made of the potatoe chips. From the 13yr old in our family to the 75yr old, we all agree this is one of the BEST John Dorys we have been to.

The BEST, most tasty sushi. And the presentation of the food was brilliant 👏👌. The service was excellent, very attentive and prompt. Its definitely a place to sit back, relax and enjoy the views after a hard day of play on the beach. We were so hungry, I didnt get a chance to take photos before the food started to disappear 😃. I really regret that because the presentation was so beautiful.

Been to so many John Dorys around Durban but have never experienced service as good as this one. Always come back here time after time just because of this reason. An added bonus is that the presentation of food is on point!

Beachfront, relaxed vibe. Sushi was scrumptious. Friendly waiter. Mains took forever (busy Sat- 2pm-ish).

We had a wonderful experience. The food was on point and the service was excellent. Its the little things that add to your experience like the hostesses giving your kids a high 5. We highly recommend!

The breakfast was really tasty I just feel they need to work on how to handle big groups of people that. All our foods come at different times some waited 30 minutes others an hour and then I waited 1hour and 15 minutes and still some of the meals were wrong. My food had a hair in it but I liked that the manager cm personally to apologize. Other than that the food was really tasty

Im not happy about what happened. The waitress came to take my order and wen she left the table I couldnt find my phone. I called it with my other phone and it was ringing. Stood up to go look for her and told her Im missing my phone. She surprisingly said she never saw it. And wen she saw how serious I was she took me to wer they put menus. I cant believe the reason she told me she never saw my phone.Very disappointed. And the manager took the waitress side Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Very rude staff smame just taking our soya sauce while we haven’t even finished our sushi. It took ages before my gin and tonic arrived, other people got served long before we did while we ordered long before them

Today I decided to dine at John dorys at uShaka Marine world with my family and it was the absolute worst decision I made, we entered the restaurant at 13h00pm. On arrival we requested seats on the outside to which we were denied due to the waitress been racist, she asked us to wait and and gave the vacant table to another African family that entered about 30mins after us.We then waited another 15mins till we get a table outside, upon getting a table to dine at after an hour, we still waited 1 and a half more till we receive only our drinks. During that time I had spoken through to 4 waitresses and to dismay all gave me the same response we getting it this went on till my family and were done waiting and left.I would never recommend John dorys at Ushaka Marine world to anyone, the poor service, racist staff, and uncouth behaviour is an absolute no go zone.We were extremely unhappy and unaccomodated for... It was as if no one was willing to acknowledge that we were there as customers, our orders were given in and we also needed to attended to.An extremely unpleasant experience....

There was a small mix up with my mums order, but we didnt even have to say anything and they gave us FREE desert and apologised thoroughly. The service here is absolutely amazing and they treated us like kings and queens...also food was AMAZING as usual...John Dorys really made our Friday amazing.

Had the salmon calfornia roll and the prawn avalanche sushi, it was lovely! Was mostly great, would just suggest they fry the prawn tempura just a little less..

Ushaka John Dorys need to send their cooks to JD bluff or Umhlanga to learn the recipes.Any dish with the white sauce need to be upgraded from just lumpy flour, water and herbs..... Cheesy prawn tails, hake thermidor etc. Food is not good at all.The Manager, Nontobeko, is great and she tried to assist but she is not the cook.Not a pleasant experience especially when you are hungry.

Where do I start. As I was signing in (as per Covid regulations, having to write down my name, number and temperature) our waitress insisted that I didnt have to fill it in and took the pen, the floor had glue seeping through every time you walk on it, the floors were not swept therfore extremely dirty, the food was less than okay (Ive tasted better seafood in Jhb) and there was a sticker stuck to my Lettuce. However the staff was friendly and extremely helpful plus the view was great. To be honest, I will probably never come back to John Dorys.

Made us feel so special. Had an awesome birthday dinner. Great staff and the sushi was so fresh. Kids area amazing and safe too. Well done. Keep up the excellent work!

Food is great! Greeted with smiles on a busy new years day so tables were all busy when we got there. Our name and number was taken and within 10 minutes we had a table. The waiters and manager have excellent customer service! If you are a big group of people, please use logic and realise that the floor space is small so albeit they can accommodate you, they have limited space. Overall incredible service!!

I am a regular at this restaurant however my review isnt regarding that. Recently I came across a post on Facebook about breakfast at JDs. I was interested but had a few questions about substitutes because I do not eat beef/pork. My question was promptly responded to by Vah. Needless to say that I will definitely be visiting them for breakfast soon. Great customer service begins even before the consumer visits the restaurant, well done!

Lovely view and service

After days of rain in Durban, it was great to take the walk down the promenade to JDs uShaka. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff especially Nonto and Sandile. The food was presented very artistically and the sushi was delicious! Thank you to all the chefs also. When we are in Durbs again we will be back, Fo Sho! Lyzette

We had a fantastic evening. We got such a friendly welcome when we arrives. My nephew loved the kids section (enclosed upstairs with a TV downstairs showing the CCTV, one entrance in and out so very safe if you like to keep an eye on you little one coming and going) and they were very accommodating as we wanted to sit where we can keep an eye on the kids section and had a wheelchair with us. All staff the staff throughout the evening we very friendly and helpful.Aside from that the views are breathtaking especially as you watch the sun go down and the lights of Durban start coming on.

Seafood with one of the best views in Durban. Its one of the largest fish foods restaurant in the area. So whats not to like? During the day its exceptionally busy. However in the evenings its lovely there a bit expensive but then fish has become an expensive food. Staff is a bit of a mix bag, but still fair well.

Counters at the sushi belt were not cleaned. Poor service. The order my husband placed took about an hour to get to the table. It was sushi, just like the rest of the orders we made, but his took forever.

John Dorys @ Ushaka was such a pleasure. Fast, friendly, obliging and attentive waitress and management. Food arrived fairly quickly and was very well prepared. I was happy to be proved wrong! We were a group of 5 and every person thoroughly enjoyed their food. Ive had terrible experiences at 3 other John Dorys restaurants so this was a pleasant surprise.

Food and service were superb and both our waitress and the manageress on duty were great. Possibly the best JD experience I have ever had and I have been to multiple outlets around the country. Great view on their deck, overlooking the harbour mouth and beach.

Not great. Smelt like disinfectant from floor cleaners. Service was really slow. One of the sushi dishes was off. Nope a definite no, scoring one of my lowest ratings ever.

Great atmosphere and food

Wonderful service and excellent food at very fair prices. Best John Dory Ive been to. Whats really special is that you have amazing sea and beach views.

A beautiful setting and one of the best views in Durban - you can see all the way from the stadium to the ships coming in to port. We were there for lunch, but the evening view must be quite spectacular.We had a decent sushi starter and one decent main meal, but unfortunately the second main meal was very disappointing and almost inedible.The highlight of the whole experience though was the magnificent child minders in the kids play area who were actively engaged with the kids, playing with them and making sure they all had a great, safe time. The kids area is upstairs with only one entrance/exit and cameras make it easy to keep an eye on what is going on.

We waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive, despite the restaurant being almost empty. During this time we were offered no further drinks. After complaining, the food finally arrived but with the rice uncooked and all complaints being met with a sorry from management and waiters but no action. To boot, the salt shaker was not fastened properly and salt ended up all over the table.It was a comedy of errors from a franchise that usually delivers. I would avoid this branch in future.
