The service is good, the food is out of this world and the tranquil setting is very peaceful. Also very private establishment. Cocktail menu is available and clean toilets. Conference facilities are available as well as rooms at the adjacent Concierge Hotel.

Service was terrible, forced to pay a Tip because it is already added in the BILL...the only thing i enjoy was their Freedom Burger. The chicken was not cooked, horrible, the waiter didnt know anything on the menu, had to call bartender to come explain the drinks, Chef was also called to explain the menu. The burgers were priced R75 on the menu and when the bill came, we were charged R100. (R25 more, disgusting)Thank youbto Radio of Colour(ROC) for the entertainment, really enjoyed it

I was in Durban on Vacation, we made a turn to Freedom Cafe for breakfast, we ended up sitting there the whole day, iv never set at a restaurant for more than 8 hours.... we had to cancel all our plans scheduled for that day, we were so comfortable, its such a private and beautiful space... the deco inside and out, modern yet vintage style... I LOVE IT.! The hospitality, the respect from the staff, its out of this world... uMadlamini served us from morning until evening never got tired of our demands, with her beautiful personality and smile . I will highly recommend this place to everyone I know that would be visiting Durban. Thank you so much for making my day such a beautiful experience. I was there on the 3 Nov 20019.

TL;DR - Not going back.I have been wanting to eat at Freedom Cafe for sometime now and I must say that it was very disappointing. They did not have avocado, mushroom and orange juice available - that cuts out a lot of breakfast options. The waiter then suggested a fruit blend juice which tasted like syrup diluted in water (we wanted fresh juice; as it appeared on the menu). We also ordered an iced coffee which was pathetic. After sitting outside for a while we asked to move indoors as the seats were dirty and it was a windy day. It was a blistering, humid day of 34 degrees and the air-con was not working. At this point we were concerned about the quality of the food. Luckily the food was decent. This along with the service provided by the waiter has resulted in a 2-star rating. If not for these two things I would not have given any (if that was possible).

Beautiful set up nesting under a massive tree. One feels this closeness with nature as you sip on your morning cappuccino and take a bite of your freshly prepared breakfast. The staff are very friendly and professional. The menu is uniquely put together taking into consideration the modern individual with a need to eat healthier food. Fresh vegetable juices are prepared as you wait. Certainly one of my favourite cafés in Durban. There are high bar chairs inside as well as outside relaxed seating. Ample safe secure parking and a play area for smaller children.

Went to Freedom Cafe on Sunday, left very underwhelmed. The location was okay, we sat at the outside seating at the back since the front was busy. Our waiter was a pleasant guy, he visited the table often but never stayed long enough to get everything we wanted so we found ourselves calling on him often. Our food left alot to be desired. . . I was not a fan of the Macon in the Omelette, odd flavour and very fatty.**The bathrooms need a little refresh.I would go for a drink in the front area, however they wouldnt be on the top of my list of places to go agian.

A few weeks ago, my oldest daughter turned 16, and instead of wanting a big bash, she opted for a dinner party at her favorite restaurant, Freedom Café - in Durban. I contacted Kuda, the owner who went out of his way to accommodate her and her 10 friends. The evening went on without a hitch, the venue, the staff, and especially the food was all top notch. Thank you for accommodating us, allowing us to take over part of the venue, and for giving my daughter a night to remember. If you have not been to Freedom Café – you are missing out on one of Durban’s finest non commercialized eating establishments.

Yesterday i had the privilege of dinning at Freedom Café for the 1st time, im truly blown away by the exceptional service we received. It was so hard to determine who the manager was, because all your waiters we so hands on. We had about 5 different individuals asking if we were ok and happy. Oh my gosh, the vibe and diversity of the customers coming in lead to an enjoyable day. P. S your chiefs personality portrays the delicious food we had. Shes a Gem.Look forward to dinning at Freedom Café again soon.

This is such a beautiful spot and I was so excited about finally being here. The mocktails were absolutely delicious, my waitress recommended the blueberry one and I couldnt have been happier. The food however took forever to come, management did explain that its due to the fact that it is prepared from scratch. So dont go there hungry, unless you dont mind waiting 30-40min.Flavourful is not a word Id use to describe their speciality meal which is the chicken alfredo, it tasted really bland for me, so you can imagine how grateful I was for the salt and pepper to try and resurrect this meal somewhat but even that didnt fully do the trick. The other meal that was had was a freedom chicken strips meal that had great potential according to the menu and ingredients but also didnt quite hit it on the nail.So in overall the meals were average in my opinion. The service was amazing 10/10. And although I dont see myself returning for the food, I would definitely come back to try out their dessert selection which looks like paradise that can literally melt in ones mouth.

We recently spent four days at The Concierge Hotel and the Freedom Cafe in Durban, and could not have had a more enjoyable time. The food was uniformly excellent, but even better than that was the outstanding friendliness and service of the entire staff, including the management and ownership. I felt, the entire time we were there, that I was visiting with good friends. I would not consider staying anywhere else in Durban than The Concierge and Freedom Cafe. If I could give it six stars, I would.

Freedom Cafe is a delight. The (vegetarian) food is uniformly fantastic. More, the atmosphere is light, warm, welcoming, and chic. Staff are smart, urbane, insightful, helpful and friendly, and everyone working at the Cafe has interesting thoughts about contemporary issues in South African, Durban and the world. We were visiting from the States (Seattle), staying at the adjacent hotel (The Concierge) and spent as much time at Freedom Cafe as we could work into our schedule. The local Durban residents we know also like to find their way to Freedom Cafe for a respite. Its in a cool leafy courtyard completely encircled by the buildings of the lovely little hotel. Between Campbell and Saint Marys Avenue, with entrances off of each. Owners Kuda & Michelle are wonderful to spend time with, and the staff is great to chat with and extremely helpful. Beer and wine. Completely recommend!

The worst thing that can happen is when your expectations are not met! Especially when it comes to food and dining. Ive had Freedom Cafe on my radar for so long and when I finally went two weeks ago, I was just a little disappointed... Being a creative and art lover, the space created was an unusual and yet pleasant vibe with all its colorful decor and interesting art pieces. The place was pretty cool, the food was okay and the service average.... Had to change our order a few times because what we wanted from the menu was unavailable. Also just to mention that the place needs a bit of an upgrade. Maybe that is me just knit-picking again but these are the things that I look for. When youre spending a bit for your buck, the ultimate food and dining experience must be worth it.

We visited freedom cafe for breakfast this morning. We were a table of 7 and the food came in fair time. 5/7 enjoyed the food but however two meals that had been ordered with poached eggs came as boiled eggs instead. Even tho when we specified the order while the waiters took it down and asked for runny eggs. Staff dint seem to be very accomadation and could improve on customer service. Otherwise the burger Benedict was rated as great with bursts of flavour and so was the steak and onion sandwich.

Customers should take note that the website states the following Please note that The Freedom Café and The Chocolate & Cheesecake Bar are fully halaal and no longer serves or permits alcohol or pork on the premises..... This is far from true as I personally visited the store on 19 January 2020 & I had seen the entire bar full of alcohol, upon enquiry the waiter informed me that they are halaal, ie Halaal Friendly. Needless to say, I cannot review the food as I had left.

This was not an easy review to write. A whole of factors could have contributed to my experience. My experience. Came here after reading reviews and on a recommendation as well. The location is excellent, lots of opportunity here. Was told it was better to sit outside in high Summer in Durban as the aircon was not working. WiFi not available. Was before 12, so ordered a breakfast. What had been recommended to me to have from their menu was not available. Now the food. There were l traces of excess oil. It made the mushrooms look too oily. The poor eggs when they arrived were cremated, and the macon was hard. Both inedible. The food tasted stale. The only thing I enjoyed was the toast. The waiter disappeared before I could even ask for sweetner for my cappucchino - and never returned until I was readying to leave. Fix this. Please.
