We went here twice for dinner on our vacation. We enjoyed it SO much. Definitely going back whenever we’re down here and WILL recommend to anyone. Our service was awesome on both nights. After we were seating and ordered our food came out within minutes.

Great setting. Loved the yellowtail we had recently. However, we were disappointed with their hake and chips a little while back. Hopefully a once-off issue.

Fantastic sea food restaurant right on the waters edge. They have a fantastic menu with top quality seafood. There is plenty of seating and the service is good. The staff were friendly and helpful and did not hound us even though it was fairly quiet when we were there.

This is my favourite restaurant in Cape Town. The service is always friendly and professional. The menu offers the right amount of choice and its very clear that you are here for the seafood!After craving prawns for some weeks now the grilled prawn main was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and we were licking the sauce off the plate at the end.Add all this to the spectacular setting and our lunch experience was perfect. From the moment we walked in the door, to the moment we left, it was all absolutely delightful! Jessica welcomed us with a smile that was visible through her mask, Siya dealt with the COVID safety protocol quickly and effectively, and Talent escorted us to the table and swiftly rearranged our table settings, as we prefer to sit next to each other, as apposed to across from each other.Starters: 12 Oysters... Plump, good size and served within minutes of us ordering. The person shucking those Oysters has some shucking SKILLS! #WhatTheShuckMains: Paprika Calamari for me and the trusty Hake and Chips for Hubby... Both fresh, popping with flavour, and Nothing Left On The Plate Delicious!Desserts (Take Away): Chocolate Tart and Cheese Cake ... Nothing like Desserts to relieve the stress of a long day, but after having enjoyed our starters and mains, were going to have to sit this round out, until tomorrow evening. Worth mentioning that even our take aways were beautifully packed and garnished: Restaurant Standards even with meals you take with you: Nice!A big thank you to Siya, Talent and Jess for looking after us... What an amazing evening we had. Celebrated my sisters graduation with a lovely dinner. The excellent service, amazing assistance from Ms Siyamthanda (Siya) added to the success of this beautiful evening. The sushi tasted good and we had prawn tempura , seafood pasta, oysters and prawns. The rest of the food was average .The cheesecake was atrocious had a funny chocolate moussy thing on top we both had one bite and left it.The service was ok.The downside was the terrible food poisoning , we were both sick about an hour coming back from the restaurant . It was so bad 😔😔😔😔

Had my birthday lunch there and it was one of my most memorable experiences. The food was delicious and it is a great choice for group reservations. Live Bait has a beautiful view of the ocean, an amazing ambience and the staff have very good hospitality. Would definitely recommend it. :)

A beautiful setting with lovely views of the ocean and Kalk Bay Harbour. We like that it is more rustic which fits the Kalk Bay vibe. The hake was our winning dish but the chips could be less oily. The seafood pasta is far too creamy but the toppings were delicious mussels and prawns. The pan fried Calamari in turmeric was our winner starter. Sirloin was good - but this is a seafood restaurant. Very good service. Pity we were too satisfied to try dessert. But definitely next time.

Oooh the food was seriously yummy here. A extremely vibrant busy and noisy restaurant. Situated right on the harbour with windows that face the crashing waves and spray from the sea. A fabulous atmosphere, while waiting for your meal you will see many keen fisherman casting their rods in the hope to catch the big one. The young kids and family make an outing of visiting the harbour area outside the restaurant. Once youve had a delicious meal take a walk along the pier and say hi to the gorgeous Cape Fur Seals basking on the side walk.

Seafood with a difference. Every dish has its own unique flavour. Fresh sushi. Gorgeous setting overlooking the harbour and the fish market. Very lively, very real. 💯

The location is exquisite. You could be sitting on the rocks eating fish.The food is tasty, particularly the seafood pasta. The price is high but the location and setting in the beautiful Kalk Bay harbour is the catch that you pay for.

They were kind enough to accommodate us without a booking, the food was delicious with generous portions and the view was breathtaking as always.If you are in the area, dont miss out, but do book to avoid disappointment.

Delicious food. Waitrons not wearing masks properly which was pointed out but made little difference. Otherwise, pretty admission protocols adhered to.

View was great and we were pleasantly surprised by the sushi. The fish was delicious and the rice was nice and fluffy and not some hard dense stuff. I unfortunately only ordered two pieces before the sushi chef closed for lunch - had I known how good it would be I would have definitely ordered more. The assorted platter was tasty as well!

The setting is beautiful with lovely views of the ocean. The food, however, was underwhelming. We only had starters which werent to our standards. Ambience is excellent though.

I know its a seafood place but theres only one item on the menu for anyone allergic to seafoods ... But my steak was well cooked tasty and my friends enjoyed the mussels and sardine dishes and the creme brulee was fab

Live Bait , Harbour Houses baby brother as I see it, delivers on everything that you would expect from the brand. Service is tops class, setting is magnificent and prices are extremely reasonable. They have a lovely selection of wines, beers and non alcoholic beverages catering for everyone. Seafood is well cooked, prawns and swordfish I can highly recommend. Being part of the same group as Harbour House you are assured of high standards and quality service. Awesome spot for sundowners on any sunny Cape day.

This was the first meal we had at Kalk Bay after arriving from Joberg. What a welcome! It was lovely food, a great relaxed atmosphere and very helpful service. The views were excellent and it was really good to watch the sun setting over the harbour. The only problem we had was parking - a good sized car park, but some rather scary moments with some unpleasant young men when we went to collect our car after the meal. Didnt stop us going bcak for a second night though!

We headed to the restaurant on a Saturday for lunch without reservation. The waitress kindly offered us to wait 15min to get a table, and there it was ! The view is really nice : one side the port, the other side the sea with the waves crashing on the window. Service and food were great.

By far the best battered hake, accompanied by a rocket salad and excellent chips. The decadent chocolate desert was world class. What a great meal and excellent service.

Food still ok very expensive for what you get. No tartar sauce just a tiny bit of basil mayo. Not as good as the last time I went. Line fish with half of a small potato and one French bean half a courgette and 3 big chunks of peppers R160! Since my review the manager has been in touch. Extremely helpful. Havent had chance to return to make a review.

A great little restaurant overlooking Kalk Bay Harbour. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and helpful. A great experience all round, we will definitely go back.

Very average food at not so average prices and the portions are much smaller than what is shown on their photographs. Lovely setting and ambiance, but I would not bother.

We had booked lunch on 31 December and really didnt have a good experience. My wife was pregnant at the time and we had to stand around waiting for our table that wasnt ready. When we finally got shown to a table (it seemed like there was a mixup with our booking) and ordered our drinks, my wifes water unexpectedly broke and we now needed to rush to the hospital, especially as it was very prem for the baby to be arriving. On telling the restaurant this the first thing they do is ask us to wait so they can go print our bill and we can pay for 2 drinks that we didnt even take a sip of. I find this terrible that we got asked to wait, I would think the decent thing to do would be to just say that we could sort it out later or dont worry about it, especially as the manager was standing by and didnt say anything either.

My boyfriend and I were shopping in Kalk Bay and wanted to go for a quick seafood lunch where we could see the sea and Live Bait fulfilled this perfectly! The service was great - Thabo was extremely friendly, quick to serve, and helpful with our meal queries and indecision. We both settled on the line fish of the day which was cooked to perfection and came with a nice assortment of crisp colourful veggies and buttery baby potatoes. It was exactly the Saturday lunch we were after.

Had a truly wonderful dinner at Livebait Kalk bay tonight. The food was prepared perfectly, the wine glasses remained full. Our server Tanaka made sure everything was more than comfortable at the table and very clued up on the menu, what a star :)The manager Elton I believe his name was, was great company too and chatted to us, making it a very welcoming and warm environment.Definitely worth a visit, at least once a week!

My wife and her friends were there for lunch and to share the birthdays of her two friends with a beautiful view and food.... there was another three people they sang and gave a cupcake for the gentlemen who was sitting with them and she was wondering when will they be coming their side for the celebration of her friends and to their surprise nothing happend... The service wasnt that great and waiter couldnt tell us anything a out prices for the drinks sorry but my wife experience wasnt great at all... When they left she told the waiter what they do for one must go for all

This has to be the best seafood restaurant in South Africa ! I had the mussels and my family had the fish and squid and it was all 5 star quality! Best restaurant we have ever been to ! Absolutely recommend eating here- do yourself a favor, go and experience the quality of food and service from Tanaka, was a legend waiter !

It was so good time be there. Great food which very fresh and yum. We were there for meet friends and service was friendly and smooth with beautiful smile. Seen wild life at outside that also made me so happy!Tame seals are so funny!Definitely will back soon.

Loved the service and loved the food. The Venue is stunning and bright and really offers a great view. A very swanky lunch.The food was tasty and quick to get out but I do feel its a bit pricy for the portion.All in all, a must visit for anyone who loves seafood and visits the area.

Service is great, view is outstanding but I was a bit disappointed with the quantity of the food, and the taste thereof, however, not a bad experience at all.

Good food and service and the most wonderful views.Whilst seated you feel as if you are in the sea.A few years ago during a strong and tempestuous storm the waves broke through the windows of this estabishment and caused a tremendous amount of damage.The restaurant has been repaired and reinforced since then.I had a refreshing experience at this restaurant and Kalk bay where it is located and I recommend it highly to be enjoyed by all.

Great food, great location.We had the seafood pasta and the hake and chips. Seafood pasta was amazing. Hake and chips was really good, the batter had an especially nice taste.My only complaint would be that the hakes portion size was quite small for the price you pay.

Enjoy drinks or sumptious meals whilst embracing the stunning views of the harbour as well as Simons Town .Spot Fur Seals languishing on the Promenade, take a walk to the lighthouse, take a snap shot of the fishing boats returning from sea or purchase curios and artifacts from street vendor on sidewalk..Superb food, spectacular views, wonderful staff, awesome venue..

Prime location with beautiful views over the waves crashing on the rocks. The restaurant has a laid-back ambiance with a casual atmosphere. Theres mainly seafood and sushi on the menu. Sushi was of good quality, but wasnt anything special. Peri peri shrimps were tasty, although they missed a bit of the kick that youd expect. The seafood pasta was very creamy and had plenty of seafood in there. A bit lighter on the cream with a bit more white wine would do the dish good though. Service very friendly. Value for money average.

Beautiful sea side restaurant with a simple menu done really well. Presentation of food was superb and the sushi just melted in my mouth. The calamari was good in that it was perfectly cooked but not outstanding so I cant add it to my list of incredible calamari joints. Service was friendly too. Will definitely go again. Great place for a long, slow, boozy lunch.

Very pretty ocean setting - waiting time to be seated was short, rather busy and buzzing crowd in the evening. Go there with the intention of relaxing while having your Sea food meals alongside the ocean breeze and youll walk out satisfied. Enjoyed the service done by Pamela and the rest of the staff. Try to get to seafood heaven. Be right next to the roaring ocean, next to the trawlers and a jetty. Get to a place with a brilliant cook and youve got Live Bait Kalk Bay.I took the bait.

Always enjoy our dining experience at this little gem but on Saturday afternoon they seemed to outdo themselves. Live Bait is always the perfect location and the management cannot really take credit for the breathtaking natural show outside and against their windows but they got their location spot on. What they can take full credit for was the outstanding service from both the hostesses on duty and the well-informed, considerate and professional waiter, Thabo, as well as the exceptional presentation and quality of their food.

We had a hake and chips and it was really tasty and good value for money. The view onto the harbour adds to the atmosphere which makes for a great place to eat and meet with friends.

Fish was nice and fresh, and prepared pretty well. Service was a bit slow, but they were slammed, so I wouldnt ding them for that. Overall a nice little stop.

We arrived at around 5.30 and although they only open officially at 6 they were very accommodating and brought us drinks while we were waiting. We were seated at our table just after 6 and we ordered our meals. I ordered the mussels and was disappointed that they were not available. I ended up having the pan fried calendar and it was delicious. 3 people in our party ordered the battered take and they all said it was very fresh and tasty. One member of our party ordered the seafood pasta and was happy with it, and someone else had the crumbled calendar and was very satisfied. The service was good and our waitress was cheerful and friendly. I can definitely recommend this restaurant and would go back.

Food didn’t match expectations. Calamari and chips were oily and soft. Ciabatta bread was nothing special. Muscles were small portion wise and didn’t feel great value for money. Service and setting was great but food needs to match.

Extremely disappointing. This once great restaurant has fallen. Our prawns were small with almost no sauce and way over cooked! This is the second time weve had to send our food back. Unacceptable! We were not informed that Tuna was not available until we ordered after asking previously. Bread only served once we asked after seeing tables around us receiving. Food and service which were once very good were sorely lacking. Unimpressed.

Live bait is a nice place. My visit was not at Live bait but at Lucky fish, the service was bad. We order calamari and chips and fish and chips separate, the guy put everything in one plate which means he gave us less chips. So when we ask him that we want it seperate he got angry. SERVICE WAS BAD.

Top quality food, view and staff. Menu is more limited than Muizenburg branch but still plenty to satisfy.

Four of us for supper, Wed 16Jan2019. All chose battered hake and chips. Uniformly awful; miserable small portions of overcooked fish in hard old batter; chips thin and uninteresting; bread dry and hard. Seemed like we were served warmed up left-overs from lunch? Certainly not freshly cooked. Very disappointing! Poor value. We have eaten there satisfactorily in the past but this was the worst ever.

The staff were inattentive and the restaurant is untidy. The food is average. Sadly, I will not be returning for another meal at Live Bait in Kalk Bay.

Fantastic restaurant within a very well presented building. Overlooking the sea and serving up freshly caught seafood, the food is an absolute delight. Linefish and prawns were the standout dishes, matched perfectly with local wines recommended by the wait staff. A must do in Kalk Bay - we will be back.

The food was excellent. Beautifully plated. The service was average. The view was great! The restaurant could, however, expand since it was abit cramped. Overall, it was a great experience.

Fishing causes the greatest damage to the oceans and wildlife along with climate change.There are no vegan mains. Only chips, rice and roasted vegetables.Those options are cheap but have very small portions.The roasted vegetables are not roasted at all.

The venue is pretty enough, the waiter was friendly and new his stuff. The food was a real mixed bag, prawns and mussels were great but the calamari was tasteless (no tartar sauce is avaliable) the swordfish was hugely disappointing, mine was a tiny portion and overcooked. The espresso was served in a regular cup so most was left on the sides of the cup.

Super tasty! Had the fish speciality of the day. Refined. Good value and carefully presented. I recommend 👍🏽
