Alma Cafe is a real hidden treat in Cape Towns Southern Suburbs. The owners are great for a chat and the food is beyond tasty. Live gigs are great local performers in an intimate setting. Very foreground, not like incidental background affairs. I wish I was close enough for this to be my regular.

Live music venue by night, coffee shop / deli by day. Favourite local spot with fresh, tasty, well-priced food and coffee and the best home-baked goods that remind me of baking with my gran when I was a child. Family-run place that makes you feel at home as soon as you enter.

Really awesome place. The music was absolutely incredible and they have a solid drinks menu. Really enjoyed the whole intimate vibe that they have set up there. The crowd is mostly middle aged to older rock fans. My only complaint would be that the set started more than an hour after it was supposed to. This was very inconvenient for me as I had something on afterwards and was only able to enjoy a short amount of the show which was disappointing especially considering the R150 ticket. This was just my experience and its possible it is not a common occurrence. Definitely still recommend overall.

The Alma Cafe is the cutest intimate set up that looks like a proper old school supply store. They have the most incredible home style food that leaves one truly nostalgic. ( reminds me of Sunday Lunch growing up as a kid in the Lowveld ). Their apple crumble is next level Devine!! We watched Reg Meuross who Ive never heard of before, but wow, was he a treat! What a beautiful, organic, down to earth evening with awesome friends. #musttry

An intimate, friendly venue for excellent folk music (occasionally, rock), run by a nice family with amazing connections in the music scene. The deal usually includes a tasty meal. Youll be impressed by the music and leave with a smile on your face. The lockdown has put a stop to live music, of course, but when the world returns to normal, this will be a good place to celebrate it.

A delightful little community cafe. During the week, tuesday till friday you can pop in for a good coffee deal between 8 and 9 or stop in for breakfast or lunch. The saturday market is a wonderful way to support local. Here you will find honey, delicious cupcakes, cheese or sauces. Quality used clothing and silver jewelry. Parking is in one of the narrow roads surrounding the cafe. The entrance is not wheelchair accessible.

Rosie Bruce was playing live and I enjoyed their music very much. The set up was also quite intimate and fun. I also managed to find street parking and also the location is off Liesbeek close to the freeway. I didnt have anything to eat so I cant comment on their food which seemed like a specific and limited menu. I had a drink and service was good.

The one star is for the music which was great, however it was the worst environment for on to try and enjoy the music. You go out to socialize and interact with the musicians. Instead we were reprimanded like school children for talking and basically any other form of enjoyment. Definitely would not recommend to anyone who enjoys the full live music experience. Grumpy old man spoilt my whole evening .....

My happy place. It is hard to describe this place. It is small, not fancy, have soul, the food is ordinary like you would get at your moms, it is filled with people who love music and it leaves you with a feeling that you are having a secret meeting of the best experiences imaginable. Nobody leaves without smiles, hugs and see you next times . For years and years local Capetonians have ventured to this haven of music magical evenings.

Its NOT about the food, though quite good. Its about the great music in this tiny funky ex supply store. Its a beloved venue for Cape Towns acoustic music musos. The Alma Cafe is one of the few surviving joints that prides itself as a listening venue where musicians and aficionados can enjoy wonderful food and live music. No background Kenny G in this place! Tonight it was Steve Fataar of the Flames, Nazeem a Fender magician and Liz from the Fishwives on accordion. Nothing beats being up close and personal with the artists.Food is always great, and as a vegetarian, I am always adequately catered for. I regretted not having the dessert, but I could not deliciate and take photos!

We had a great time last night. Every Wednesday night, three musical acts take to the stage - and we had excellent entertainment. We started with an amazing guitarist playing flamenco music that he had composed. This was followed by the amazingly talented Vanessa Phillips on the keyboard. We ended the evening with a a jazz band of UCT music students. They blew us away. The food was great, the drinks reasonably priced. Ill definitely be going back.

Review №63

This is a cosy but excellent music with a meal venue. Check with them whats on though because they only open when an act is booked and confirmed. Usually its Wednesday nights and weekends. Silence is expected when musicians are performing which adds value to the experience. A small menu which always has a vegetarian option as well is catered for and prepared timeously making bookings essential. They are licensed and no smoking inside but a covered porch at the entrance offers a good compromise. Some of the best local musicians can be seen here and its a must-do in cape town.
