Inside was snug and warm during a cold Cape winter day full of rain. Service was prompt and the dishes warm, nourishing and reasonably priced. Summer lunches must be lovely under the umbrellas outside too. A gem of a place.
Good but pricey food a friendly waiter.
Delightful setting and good breakfast, well presented. Id recommend you use table cloths to stop ones utensils from falling through the holes in the table and perhaps double-check milk for turning. Other than that, the waiter was professional and the good food reasonably priced.
The indoor seating is perfect for these wintery days. Very genial host and a great deal of fun to be had trying to remember where youve heard the songs on their house music tape before. Also should you be the only customer in that day, as I was, you may just be treated to a coffee on the house.
Vegan sweet potato curry is amazing...I would like to see more vegan option at this place... amazing place to visit.
Lacking in in vegetarian/pescatarian options on their takeaway menu.If you plan to take away from them and eat in the garden, I would suggest bringing your own food instead.
Beautiful garden! So lovely to be there and the service and food was great too.
It is a great restaurant. The scones we had were freshly baked and wonderful. Highly recommended. Just a pity that the once beautiful botanical garden is so utterly neglected.
Nice to enjoy something to eat and drink in a botanical garden under trees. I enjoyed the omelet and the milkshake was great. Very friendly staff
Beautiful garden, wonderful food and friendly staff!
Always lovely, never disappoints. Great service, great food, great place
The restaurant is set in a serene surroundings amidst lush greenery. The food is served with great pleasure. Everyone there goes out of their way to make you feel at home.I was a frequent visitor to this restaurant during my 3 months stay in Stellenbosch. I never had any reason to be dissatisfied with either the food or the service. A great place to meet up with friends and family.
Lovely outdoor seating area.Food looked good.We had tea and drinks.Friendly waitress Anthea and a very hands on Manager on duty.Recommended ®️👍
Absolutely gorgeous tropical style venue. Sneak round the back & get a seat on the wooden deck under luscious palms. The food was really good, got a huge salad portion with my steak, really fresh & tasty. Excellent friendly service. Tip; provide blankets for clients legs, the cold was the only thing dampening the experience.
Best omelette I have ever had. Friendly and helpfull staff and we were 20 people for breakfast. Amazing views. Quiet and tranquil. A must visit!
Love the peace, beautiful gardens, sitting in the garden and enjoying your meal, that is a bonus. You pay R15 entrence fee and after your meal (or before) explore the gardens. This is one of the oldest botanical gardens in South Africa. The service at the restaurant was not great, and the breakfast was just OK. The 5 stars are for the environment, the meal and service 3 stars. Will go again, but will try something else. There is enough parking and it is save.
Nice place and view coming along with nice cakes. Beautifully plated and served. I also think that despite speaking Africans some of your waiters should also be friendly by speaking English. Its always a pleasure to get my bill from my waiter. I really didnt like the way you do... Otherwise its a pleasure
Quick service. Great taste.
Lovely setting. Very cold in the autumn morning. So bring a blanket. R10 entrance fee into the gardens but you do get a discount off the menu. Although the website claims they open at 7 or 7.30 they were not ready and had to wait an extra 45 minutes. Milk tart was light and delicious.
I had the pepper sauce burger, the bun wasnt so fresh but the sauce really made it it better. I personally love pepper sauce. I was too full to try out the cheese cakes they had to offer so I would love to go again, they have nice big portions.
In terms of location, this restaurant is ideal, and especially in summer months it is a beautiful retreat from the noise and heat of the town. Food is pricey, and quality is not always consistent. Coffee is good, but not great. Their scones are really good though. Service can be really slow sometimes, so ample patience is needed. In general, however, my experience has always been positive.
Beautiful setting of the Stellenbosch botanical garden, with friendly staff and management. Good service. Good food. Parking is a problem, especially during the term. So it is best to park somewhere else and walk to this restaurant.
Good value for money. Wonderful environment. Great and friendly staff.
Delicious breafast, friendly service and serene setting. Will definitely be back
My research group and I had a farewell party at Katjiepiering Restaurant. The food was really amazing and the botanical garden sure added a great atmosphere. A while back I also had coffee and cake here and that too was amazing. Definitely a place I would recommend.
Love this place. Food is great. Venue is perfect inside the botanical gardens. The owner Niel, goes out of his way to help.
Beautiful setting in the Stellenbosch botanical gardens. Very relaxing spot to enjoy a coffee and cake. Cakes are rather delicious.
The beauty and tranquility of this place overwhelms you. Unique flaura and atmosphere. Love it.
Pretty setting. Staff are alright, not great. Service delivery a bit slow but the atmosphere in the garden makes up for the slack service.
My wife and I went there for lunch today, staff were friendly and the fish & chips was the best we have ever tasted. A must try! Highly recommended!
Its a very great place for some cosy time with your lover or a friend. Had a good time with my girlfriend. Took a walk through the botanical garden after eating and its beautiful.
Beautiful place. Nice cakes available. Service a bit slow. Located in the beautiful botanical gardens of Stellenbosch university, it is ideal for dates.
Katjiepiering Restaurant is beautifully maintained in the middle of the Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden. Perfect place to have a coffee meet-up or lunch on a warm summers day. The staff are very kind and I have had no trouble with any requests Ive made regarding changes to my order. The restaurant manager often strolls through the tables and ensures that everyone is happy with their service or to simply exchange a few kind words.
Really beautiful garden and surroundings, nice food. Good place to try traditional Bobotie. Slightly small portion sizes
Beautiful gardens with quiet spots to sit and relax, listen to the birds and enjoy nature. The restaurant is also good. Limited options, but harty food made real good. They serve everything from cakes, burgers, coffee, etc. Parking can be a bit tricky, so arrive early for appointments to make sure you have enough time to find a parking spot. Stroll through the garden and enjoy the beautiful flora. When the weather is good, sit outside and enjoy the lovely sunshine and view. The burgers are a must! Nice quiet spot in the heart of the beautiful historic town, Stellenbosch. I would recommend to park behind the park, there is a gravel parking area, and then walk to the restaurant
Ive enjoyed the food every time. However, waiting time is ridiculous. Much better service at nearby alternatives.
Good food overall. Staff were a bit slow on my particular visit. Nice setting in the botanical gardens. Quite a limited menu but well prepared food
The service was extremely slow. We went there for lunch after my husbands graduation ceremony. We asked for chocolate milkshakes and water. Unfortunately there are was a power cut a while after we placed our order. We couldnt get the milkshakes so we asked for Fanta. A long while later after complaining that we hadnt been served anything our food arrives at that point we were so famished we just gobbled it down. By the time we had finished eating our long awaited meal we still had not received either the water or the Fanta. I lived in Harmonie dames koshuis as a student and always wanted to go to Katjiepiering but could never afford it. The experience I had there proved I had missed out on nothing.
Probably my favourite place to go for coffee with a friend in Stellenbosch. Beautiful place & lovely atmosphere & ambiance. Just DONT ORDER THE SCONES! They are severely overpriced: R55 for two kolwyntjie sized scones; actually a disgrace to put that in front of people for that price. If you want a scone, go to Mugg & Bean: R39 for a huuuge and delicious scone. Probably 4 times the scone amount that you get at Katjiepiering for so much cheaper. Otherwise a great place :)
Quiet restaurant in beautiful surroundings with outstanding service
The food and atmosphere are great. Waiters could be more attentive to guests but great overall experience.
The service was incredibly slow, we waited ten minutes for a menu and the waitress made it feel like she was doing us a favour by serving us. I would definitely not recommend this.
Restaurant has the type of food that you would expect from a coffee place in Stellenbosch - good quality and ok value but not extraordnary. But the setting makes it worth vissiting since the surrounding botanical garden is beautiful and showcases a large collection of both local and exotic plants.
Excellent breakfast with the best coffee Ive had in a long time.
Beautiful venue!! Will visit daily if I had the time.
Lovely setting! The restaurant offers one of the best scones in stellenbosch, but the service is almost always shocking- a real let down in that regard.
Thank you for a very special day. We didnt know we must book, but you made a plan for a table for us, and treated us like royalty. Thank you Manager, I didnt ask your name, and our wonderful waitress Suzaan for a lovely breakfast and service (thank you chefs too!). You truely have a beautiful place and your positive attitude is something a lot of places and people in the industry can learn from! The best!
Beautiful setting inside the US Botanical Garden. Good food. Friendly staff.
Good food but service very slow
Lovely setting with good food.
Love the coffee. Beautiful surroundings. Friendly staff
Very nice setting and atmosphere. Food was good and generous portions.
Great location but not the friendliest staff. The food is good but overpriced and the coffee is very mediocre.
Lovely to sit under the trees on a sunny day. The scones are amazing!!
Nice Indian Curry and Vegetable Curry. Awesome environment and friendly staff
Very nice atmosphere , good food, some vegetarian/vegan options. Friendly staff.
Food is so tasty the chef is a creator of taste lovely definately a must visit!!!
The setting is rather spectacular, but I wouldnt reccomend eating here. I ordered an open chicken mayo sandwich and a chocolate milkshake. The milkshake came in a small glass of the style youd find in your own kitchen. It was very clear to me that it was just store bought vinalla ice cream, milk and some sort of chocolate syrup. Very disappointing. The open sandwich was made with what was clearly a store bought loaf. Square, paper thin slices of almost burnt toast topped with a mountain of lettuce and dried out chicken covered in mayo. Also completely unsatisfactory. The prices are simply not justified by this quality of food. There are many much better options in the same price range in stellenbosch.
Beautiful atmosphere among the trees, shade and water features. Perfect for tea and scones with a friend.
Lovely atmosphere and delicious food and especially cake. Always recommended.
Wow awsome service food was on point and very lekka will definitely be back again. Thanx for the great service
Beautiful, peaceful and tranquil sitting in a botanical garden. Good food and nice company
Had an AMAZING slice of chocolate cake. Such a stunning location as well!
The food is good and the atmosphere is amazing
Good food and awesome experience
Delicious food, lovely setting
Beautiful area inside the Stellenbosch botanical gardens. Helpful and friendly staff.
The Katjiepiering restaurant has unfortunately gone downhill. Unpleasant staff, incredibly slow service, average prices and mediocre food made for somewhat of a letdown.Beautiful setting but a disappointing experience.
Lovely, charming lil place to grab a bite affordably.
Pleasant atmosphere friendly staff
Lovely, tranquil environment for a tasty lunch or mid morning cuppa. Service not hurried but, hey, you can spend all day and not tire of this setting.
Good food in a tranquil outdoor setting
My wife and I visited the gardens and decided to have lunch at the restaurant as the setting was so nice.Unfortunately the service was very slow and what my wife ordered was not what arrived. After a debate with the waitress it was pointed out that we could order AGAIN what was originally ordered but we would have to also pay for the meal that was incorrect. To save further debate I simply said to have it packed as a take away and please bring what was originally required. By this time I had eaten my meal and we now required further drinks which not have been required if the meals had come correctly.Payment for the meal at the desk to the most miserable manager I have ever come across was a final straw.words like , Did you enjoy your meal, or even thanks for payment would have been nice. All I can say is, we would not eat here again.
We had a lovely meal at Katjiepiering.
Good food, friendly service, perfect botanic garden atmosphere. Just wishing they were open longer hours in summer!
Very nice place to visit.
Very overprices menus and very lackluster service. The only positive part of my experience was the surroundings.
Did have a nice breakfast at Katjiepiering this morning.
Great place to have a quiet Sunday lunch.
The food was great and the setting is so peaceful!
Quaint restaurant in a quiet oasis. The food is great, expensive, but great.
Lovely setting. Fabulous staff.
