Amazing ambience, delicious and affordable breakfast. The owners are great too, they friendly and you just feel welcome and at home. I always go there for breakfast at least once a month.

I always enjoy my time a Charlies, I have taken my friends, colleagues, and partner, they always have enjoyed their time there.The first time I went to Charlies, I had just came back from the dentist for fillings, and it was pass breakfast time, but the mananger went out of her way to accommodate me and offered the breakfast menu even though it was lunch time.shr does not forget a face, she is warm, always has a bright smile and the staff is so friendly, I promise you, take your time and pop in you wont regret it

One of my favourite venues for a top breakfast. Avo, 2 eggs, bacon, rye bread r45Or smoked salmon salad r90 delicious.I have also enjoyed the mince on Rye with eggs of my choice.A very nice venue, but parking in the street can be a problem.

Charlies is a Durban gem. Great quality food, service and attentive owners all at incredibly reasonable prices. On Saturday morning Charlie was out in the road in front of the premises, directing traffic safely whilst a DSW truck was collecting garbage. Excellent.

The lady in the front of house, not sure if she was tge owner or the manager but the service was 110%, food was amazing, the best chips in the world. Place was clean, staff was accommodating and overall the best lunch experience i have had.

Wonderful little coffee shop with great breakfast options. A lunch menu is available. The cauliflower toast is amazing and the owner (or manager) adds a little personal touch by checking in now and then.

I absolutely love this spot for many reasons, namely kind people, great food and awesome coffee. The menu is simple, everything is well priced and very tasty. There is indoor and outdoor seating and my absolute favourite part is the Mitchell Park across the road that gives me such a peaceful feeling like I have been transported to a European StreetSide café.

MANAGERS RUDE RESPONSE TO GIVING A RUNNER TAP WATER:I know the Manager of Charlies well through a mutual friend, and have been comfortable to stop there on odd occasions to ask for water during my runs.I’m a regular runner and the manager clearly has gotten touched about me stopping for tap water. I have maybe stopped a total sum of 4 times ...and over the last two runs I have gotten a snarky comment. Today I had the wise words of “why do you only stop here for water ? Because you know nobody else will give it to you?” She then proceeded to lean over to her friend and start whispering - in complaint no doubt. In response to this ...I will stop by and pay her R100 for her “hospitality”. Moreover, I’m sure the guys at Vida (next door) are more than happy to support local runners with a water stop - they are always so friendly.When questioned about her encounter with me, the manager claims that she would be more than happy to give me water if we actually supported her business. This is already a shocking response because basically unless money is going into her pocket, no kindness and general moral decency should be anticipated nor expected. Also, it confirms that she was in fact irritated with my water stops at her establishment.In response it was mentioned that my father in fact has coffee there often during the week - regularly supporting her local business, which she is well aware of. She then sings a different song and states that she knows me well and was making a joke. Clearly a pathetic cover up.Its disgusting to know that a lady running this business would be so petty over a glass of TAP WATER. According to my morals and values this goes against the fundamentals of basically being humane. I have never had this issue before at any other establishment that I have stopped at in any location that I have run. I have never had this issue because its just scum to be snarky about giving someone water!!!! At least she doesnt have to worry anymore, because I will no longer stop there and I am sure my family will no longer eat there.

Charlies is in a great location, the owners are friendly and the food very affordable... but my last experience was not great. The waiter neglected to tell us that fries are extra, not standard. This would not be a problem if it wasnt such a common issue in Durban - the waiter asks with fries? implying that you have a choice between fries and something else and then when you get the bill you realise that you were the victim of a sneaky up-sell. Very annoying. Especially when the waitress couldnt care less when you lay a complaint. Your customer should know exactly what theyre ordering.
