Very nice, unpopulated private place for peace of mind. Food was good to
Great coffee and friendly staff. Beautiful environment with a great atmosphere.
After an exploration of the Durban promenade this little Cafe/restaurant popped up and mind you Durban was sizzling hit yesterday. As we arrived, we were greeted by David and our drinks orders taken, we had really only come in to quench our thirst. David explained to us that they had revamped and gave us a quick run down or happy hour specials and the buffet special at their new breakfast spot right at the top of the Bellaire hotel called Sunset Lounge. Overall experience was great and now we have a new spot for drinks and breakfast.
Went there for some good dessert and Chai latte. Only 3 desserts in the menu. Non of them that I liked. No fresh cream to go with the brownies. My Chai was very disappointing. Used to be a great place to catch up with friends.
Best place to unwind, customer service on point, food scrumptious ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Excellent serviceFood very goodFriendly staff
A nice place to relax and mingle
Very poorUpon entering the staff were not friendly and sadly the menu is NOT what it was.....Very sad
Awesome coffee, but the Frappuccino was average
Nice setting. Good menu options. Waiters were friendly and were quick to accommodate my wife and I.Great place to come to after a morning run or cycle on the beachfront.Would definitely visit the restaurant again. Wish they had more vegetarian options and bigger coffee mugs though, nevertheless still a good place to hang out!
Service was very slow... Under staffed last night... Meal was normal... A bit pricey... Staff were pleasant and helpful... Good place for coffee and drinks... Slow for meals!
Great music & friendly staff
It a nice cool spot... its a classy place with good reception and good food... the place serves also as a nice stop when or if you taking a nice stroll along the beach. The place is neat and the Manager makes sure that you are well taken care of
The cafe is placed in an incredible place near the shore of Indian Ocean. Though i have visited the place many times, i have not sat in the inside. The outdoor is fantastic! The view is so beautiful. The wind, the sound of the ocean gives you an amazing experience. The waiters are friendly and exceptional. Keep it up.
This is our default hangout. We know their menu by heart. It is perfectly located. After your meal, you can take a walk on the beach promenade and enjoy the beautiful Durban ocean. The food is well prepared. They are usually on the ball with service but sometimes they drop the ball.
A nice place to chill with friends. With a nice cup of coffee and a slice of carrot cake... Delish 🥕🎂
Like this restaurant. Vegetarian should improve though. Used to be good but it seems as the menu changes the stuff that I can order gets reduced further and further to a point where Im forced to go elsewhere.
Used to one of my favourite places until recently. Coffee is still good but service is lacking and it seems value for money on the food side has dropped a little. Hopefully it gets sorted out.
They are offering good service
Good food. Nice set up. Very cozy and intimate. Love it!
Great service.Good waiters and bartenders.
Stunning restaurant, serene, excellent vibe! Can have private parties too, wonderful, beautiful place to have your own get together. Food is absolutely amazing, service is excellent and I will definitely go back!
The newly renovated restaurant is looking good with slick decor and comfy chairs for relaxing with a cup of coffee. The service was friendly and attentive.I ordered a Beef and Guinness pie and was quite disappointed. The pastry was flat and rubbery and the meat was dry. The salad was small and lacked inspiration. My husbands chicken breast was dry and unappetizing. The fries were good though. Overall the meal was expensive and not worth the price. A lack lustre meal best forgotten. The menu lacked variety and many of the wonderful items on the previous fine dining menu are no longer available. I hanker for the days of fine dining at Jiran. It seems they are gone
Honestly great space. Service non-existent. I had to ask if the waiter had changed shifts after he gave me the menu and left for a good 20-30mins just to take an order. Also been there several times no luck with every visit.W O R S E S E R V I C E 😔
I ordered the vegetarian halloumi wrap but misread the menu and it was halloumi salad and the halloumi wrap arrived with bacon. Can you believe they would not take it back unless i bought both? Poor customer service and lack of understanding for vegetarians. Disappointing, frustrating and ridiculous.
Why have they taken an iconic coffee shop and try to spruce it up to an upmarket bar...why why why?
We had well prepared fried fish and butter chicken curry for mains. Good friendly service. Excellent coffee. Unfortunately the Creme Brulee wasnt available. We can certainly recommend Cafe Jiran as a value for money dining destination.
This was a nice upmarket cafe where we had a nice a couple of freshly-made coffees
We had a great breakfast on a pleasant Friday morning. The coffee options were fine, according to my parents. (Im not a coffee drinker.) The crumpets, oats, and vegetarian halloumi meal were all delicious. I highly recommend the French toast with bacon, which comes with tomato jam: it was savory, not sweet, and fantastic.
Best pasta dish Ive had in a long time. Great atmosphere
Very easy going. Range of seating options from alfresco tables to cozy booths. Good service and prices
Had lamb curry for dinner in January 2017. Received food ice cold. It was sent back and after 20 minutes it came back just as cold. Waiter amd chef was informed but to no avail. More interested in conversations with co staff. Service pathetic.
My favourite hangout. The food is great
Excellent service. Interesting menu. And a lovely ambience. Always a very good experience to visit.
Pavement cafe great for coffee, breakfast or a light meal. Enjoyed the Palm lined tropical feel and the food was good.
The carrot cake and latte were spot on, with the extra fudge on the side(I thought it was a brown sugar cube😅😅😅). The Waiters are friendly, but service is a bit slow. The fact that the place has a near beach view, just makes it more awesome.
My most favourite restaurant. Food always fresh and full of flavour. Revamp looks great.
Ambiance and best coffee and food to die for
Food is great and beers are cold, but the service is s l o w!
Coffee in there is the best thing in the morning after a walk by the beach!
Nice breakfast spot, good coffee and quite peaceful during the week
Nice place, offers everything you need and is quiet.
Love the quality of the meals and great ambience. One of the best quality meal restaurant in Durban
Great food and vibe. Simmy is the best waitron there.
This is arguably the best place to have dinner on the Durban beachfront. Food and service are good and the location is great
Lovely coffee, service on the slow side
This place is catastrophic. A run-of-the-mill menu with no possible first or even second choices. Shocking decor punctuated by slow and chaotic service. An experience not to be repeated.
When I go to coffee shops I like to order coffee (or tea) and something decadent like a slice of cake or a muffin. I was very disappointed when I discovered that Cafe Jiran no longer serve their giant muffins. The only cake on offer was carrot cake with butter icing. Sorry the ONLY way to have carrot cake is with cream cheese icing! Not only that but their menu has little to offer - they made it smaller. The post-upgrade Jiran is a let down. Its not as inviting as it was pre-renovations. They used to have seating on the sidewalk where people could sit with their dogs after a walk on the beach. Dogs were catered for in the form of water bowls. Thats what made it so inviting and even viby. Nothing on their new menu appeals to me. They dont even offer open sandwiches. To their credit they did make me an open sandwich...they simply converted one of their toasted sandwiches to an open sandwich. Not for me. But give them a try if you are going for a breakfast or lunch date but if you have a sweet tooth then rather give them a miss.
Located next to the reception at the Belaire hotel this smallish restuarant has a basic menu focus more toward pub lunch style and a fair liquor spread. The food is tasteful and enjoyabe. The gin mixes are excellent and service good. For a quick bite or for when you do not want to travel to other restuarants thos is a good optiont.
Great coffee. Peaceful and a good variety on the menu. The ocean breeze is a plus
Food was good but it took a long time but i consoled myself that it was made fem scratch from when I placed my order so it was fresh.
The service is always incredible- as is the food. Try out their coffee - always delicious.
Safe, caring and friendly staff. Good for business meetings anytime of the day, nicely positioned for local and international groups.
Beautiful memories. Great coffee.
Lovely space, be sure to grab breakfast after a walk on the beach. They also sell great coffee
Good food however the selection is limited if beef & pork is not your thing. Beautiful view!!
Nice place, very friendly staff and the breakfast I had there was great.
Great coffee, nice food, visit every time we go to the beach front as it is nice and clean
Coffee and service was tops, a good meeting venue on Durban Beachfront
Nice vibe. Nice service. Decent fish and chips. Crappy creme brulee
Limited vegetarian options but the baked pasta with mushrooms and tomatoes was wonderful. Friendly and efficient service.
Service was pathetic & not for the first time. I was seated down & not offered drinks until I had to call the waiter & ask if I was invisible. Drinks & the food took forever. The meatballs & mini sausages in the carnivore basket were dismal. Never going back.
A great menu, healthy food and delicious coffee.
Excellent service. Great food and atmosphere.
Really good place! I do like it and can honestly recommend.
Good deserts and fantastic coffee. Fast service and very pleasant staff.
Meal and Dessert was great. Can really recommend the chocolate moose
Good food and coffee but terribly overpriced. The service is usually awful too but everyone knows this and keeps going. They get really ruffled if you request a small change to a dish. A bit of a funny place. Id probably still go back for their eggs hollandaise.
Lovely place just didnt have non dairy milk options.
Worse client service I ever had in Durban.. attitude of waiters is pathetic
We came to Cafe Jiran for dinner and we really did not enjoy the food. Shame the poor waiter (who was not bad) had to deal with our constant complaints of the sub par food. If you go, I don’t recommend you have the steak (no flavour nor the chicken (it was dry).Oh, and apparently the manager does not void things you don’t want. Like an un-open can of Coke.
Service was terrible.Waiters were unorganized no one to manage the place.Customer service was not welcoming and friendly I felt like I was worrying them.To the owner if you keep your staff like this pretty soon you wont have this cafe any longer.
On the beach, relaxed dining. Good food and friendly staff
Good but basic menu, reasonable service and fantastic position, with lots of parking
My absolute last time there. I love the food ambience and vibe. But my waiter I had to attract his attention 2 times for a cuppicino.4 times for a carrot juice. I eventually got fed up and ordered from a lady. Even that took forever. A d then called bill 3 times.its a beatiful venue to sit after cycling. But I just had too many experiences there sorry.
It was awesome best Cappuccino in town And breakfast was amazing
The big screen at the bar plus the atmosphere of the beach nice
Its a wonderful place with wonderful service. Lovely atmosphere. Free Wi-Fi😏 access and the food is delicious. Their hot beverages especially the rooibos cappuccino is just so deliciously lovely😋
Great café and restaurant. Delisious food, very nice stuff and price are very good. I have nothing to complain about.
This was a great place until they decides to stop serving breakfasts from Mon-Fri. Makes no sense.
Used to love their lunches, but they recently changed their menu and all the old favourites are gone.
Enjoyed the wine. Food is fresh.
Unfortunately I cannot give this, once excellent venue, a decent review. Pre renovations this place was buzzing and although the service has ALWAYS been very poor, the quality of the coffee produced by a few very competent baristas and the food produced by very competent chefs compensated for this (in my opinion). However, whilst the renovations Have beautified the appearance, the standard of their coffee seems to have dropped dramatically - at least when I visited the place. No qualified baristas were on duty and where we formerly had around 5 Coffee roasts to choose from (5 grinders), there’s only one now - and, quite frankly, the coffee (made by a former waitress) was terrible. Furthermore, the service was just as pathetic as it’s always been but with (apparently) nothing to compensate for it. This was the first time I have EVER left a cup of coffee (that cost me R43 for a double-shot Americano) after taking only a few sips. I can honestly say that I will not be visiting Cafe Jiran again 👎🏾
Good location. Good coffee
Amazing. Love the renovation, staff were wonderful and friendly and the food was absolutely perfect , bestvsoada battered hake Ive ever eaten
Had breakfast there, the food was exceptional...our waiter Sthe is a natural when it comes to good customer service
This cafe used to serve good food. However , the food served now is not tasty and the service is poor.
Good for a coffee and slice of cake but food not up to standard.
Sat there waiting for service, all the waiters chatting around bar. Waited for 5minutes and a waiter came from the hotel lobby side, took my order and never came back. Poor services
Unfortunately they had no baked cheesecake, only fridge cake, so we decided to leave.
A great place for lunch, or just good coffee
Chai latte - below averagecarrot pineapple and ginger fresh juice - I didnt taste any pineapple so I would say it was okay not as delicious as I would have expectedCarrot cake - very average compared to other cafes
