Decided to try out Barcelos on Jean Avenue. When I got there I had to wait for service (initially only one person serving). The other person appeared and took my order (2 x Monday specials - 2 chicken prego burgers). Although the shop wasn’t busy, I had to wait a while for the burgers. Eventually got my order. I drove home (about 8 minute drive) and quickly opened it when I got home. Was I disappointed when I opened it. The portion size of the chicken was super small (see pictures attached). And for the food to be cold (not even lukewarm), is also pathetic. Barcelos, you won’t see me…..again!

Not enjoying their swarma. It was heated for probably 2mins in the microwave making the bread break apart when picking up to eat. Not to mention the, exactly, 11 pieces of 2 by 2 centimeter cubes of chicken. What a delight at R50!! Then companies wonder why they go under...

Food quite greasy. The turnaround time is very slow. To top it all off, a man who I assume is the owner came into the store and absolutely lambasted the staff, swearing at them repeatedly in front of myself and other customers/delivery people. This incident was a few months ago. Very disappointed to see people treated like that. Will not be back.

The Waiter was great but the owner is horrible. We ordered chicken, it was dry and you can tell its from the day before. The owner shouted at the staff like they were not human beings, very racist. It was a traumatic experience and will never eat at the restaurant again.

The chicken is dope. That real heat. More fire than Nandos chicken. The lemon and herb is really good too because the chicken is so damn succulent.

If I could rate this Barcelos a zero I would. Worse service I have ever gotten.1. Waited for over an hour for 2 full chicken meals. The owner kept harassing his staff, swearing at them and hitting them (not patting)on their shoulders to hurry up2. Got home only to discover they packed 1 full chicken, the food was even poorly packed3. When we took the food back, that insolent owner was unbothered, we had to shout in order to get assisted. Instead when we told him we’d be sure to put up a review he said that reviews do not scare him, they just go down the drain.4. halaal food certificate at this shop has expired.We had to ask for a refund, there was no way we’d support such a business. A Nandos down the road managed to get our food ready within 15minsBarcelos, that owner is doing your brand great damage.

Food is really Good so would recommend them to anyone

The food is good, but it would benefit having more staff. The turnaround time would be reduced. But the food and affordability is great.

Disgusting service from the owner himself, the attitude was uncalled for and very unnecessary. Asking about the order and he simply said he will not discuss time in his shop.very poor coming from the owner. Not expecting better from his stuff. 😕

I wanted to order the thumbs up meal, when I arrived I asked the cashier about as it was not on the menu and it was not promoted in store, the casier told me it was not offered anymore. I order something else and minutes after I placed my order the cashier took a break. A second client walked in and was helped by a different cashier, the customer also asked about the thumbs up meal and was presented with a menu from under the counter. He ordered 2 of the meals that I was told were no longer available. Please let everyone know how to get access to the under counter menus.

I ordered kids food and it was poorly packaged and the toy i selected was not there. The chips were mixed with chicken strips which was so ugly and uneatable. The shwarma that I ordered and what i received is totally different. It was ugly and poorly packaged and i couldnt even eat that. The order was bad today and i am not happy at all.

Asked the guy working here whether they are still open and he said no, as we were driving away a group of other people walked in and ordered.. We went back and suddenly theyre still taking orders and people after us could still order. Clearly this guy had no interest in helping us. Your customer service is terrible. The guy taking our order couldnt even properly speak to us and take our order.

This is the worst place to ever have a meal. It seems like the business is going under and the owner is cutting costs with his meals. We ordered the tasty twins meal yesterday for their Wednesday special and the burgers were absolutely DISGUSTING. Firstly, the chicken fillet in the burger was so small it barely fit the bun. Secondly, the burger was dry with no sauce, Thirdly the meat so so hard and stringy it was clearly poor quality meat. It was like eating rubber. In addition there was hardly any salad in the burger. It was as if you were just eating a tasteless bun. Thoroughly disgusted.

Very delicious peri peri chicken livers ,together with a portuegese roll.

Food was too salty, chips and chicken.They didnt have Portuguese rolls, so the bread rolls they gave were crumbling, seemed stale.Seating not ideal for families.Price is reasonable but there are better options for this price.Service was good.

Ordered through Mr Delivery food and Barcelos gave us burnt chicken, dry chips and on top of that, we received a wrong order.

The food options are lovely but customer service is always a disappointing experience. Staff shortage and an unreliable ordering system makes it a lesser eatery option.

Called in to place an order to collect get there after 20mins and they tell me they just started my order and mind you there was no other orders being done when i got there. Now i have come again to this branch but mr d otders that come in after i have placed my order take priority... The chef in the back has no mask what standards are these. I will be taking this up with barcelos south africa as well.

Great service and delicious chicken.

Taste was bad. Chicken was dry and had no flavor. No sauce or basting whatsoever. Ordered the hottest on the menu, and could not taste a thing. Chips were not salted or spiced and the packet was almost empty. Very poor food quality. I would honestly order from Nandos or Mochachos.

Best barcelos in the land by far. Service with a smile and the chicken is simply perfectly prepared. Highly recommended.

There is not ample security and social finances on this shop.

I have visited this Barcelos many times. The only reason I go back is due to the fact that I work close by, and the food is usually above average. The prices are quite good, and they have some great value for money specials. This is, however, where the compliments stop. The service is not great, and the speed at which food is prepared is atrocious. It is not unusual to wait 20 - 30 minutes for a simple order, even when it is not too busy. They also tend to be out of the vegetarian and beef options. Why not just remove these from the menu?

This has to be the worst Barcelos in Jhb. Food was basically flavourless and took forever to arrive. Manager/waiter/chef, yes 1 person was helpful and friendly but food was terrible.

Ordered chicken and spicy rice. The food took long but maybe it also seemed that way because of how hungry I was. The chicken was nothing to rave about, the rice was plain disgusting. It was less spicy and more oily and possibly the worst rice I have ever had. Told myself I wouldnt be going there again and I havent. The Nandos is only a few minutes further and they have yet to disappoint.

Food is GREAT, dont get me wrong. But the delivery service is pathetic as well as the service taken over the phone. Order and collect, better chance of receiving your food. This rating is purely based on the DELIVERY service and NOT the quality of food.

Ordered yesterday via Mr D and paid. Order was accepted at 15:48.Paid for my order same time. Still waiting for the delivery.I want my money back.

Horrendous service today at this place the guy at the til ( I think his Italian) gave us the worst 1st time experience food was 30 minutes late and chips when got to us were Ice cold his rude and didn’t even apologize for the food being late... horrendous!Oh and after all that waiting we get home to discover that the order is totally wrong 😰 again horrendous !
