Best route to climb table mountain. Begin with Devils Peak hike and continue with Platteklip Gorge when it crosses. Beautiful scenery with green plants, rocky cave, mini waterfall, tree covered pathways and of course the beautiful view of Cape Town. This route is easy to climb because of the flat little rock pathway. There is absolutely no big rocks to climb and definately no 1000ds of rocky stairs to climb. Trust me, Platteklip Gorge is a nightmare for unfit people. In my 3 time experience, we still did not manage to take enough water. If the sun is out then nothing would be enough. The one time we climbed on a cloudy day was the one day it was more enjoyable: had enough water and we werent depleted because of the sun. Wind on the other hand, if you cant handle it then dont do it because the wind is the most dangerous part of that mountain. Its nature. It has its downsides which we have to try and be prepared for. But in the end, it is worth being up there and connecting with the mountain on the way.
It was amazing to breath fresh air, enjoy the beautiful scenery and work up some endorfins which as you know makes one happy!
Amazing views.. I hope each south African goes once in his lifetime
If there is one thing I will always cherrish its the fact of diong the hike to the top of Table mountain and Lions Head. Make sure you take plenty memroble photos, and a bowerbank so your dont run out of battery power . Note start your hike early in the summer as it can get extremly hot on the mountain and some water is a must
Quite intense for a beginner but definitely a quality achievement when you do finish!
Great hike, physically manageable and an incredible view at the top.
Definitely a worthwhile hike if you are in Cape Town. The views are amazing. The hike is fairly strenuous, though, so take enough water along.
Stunning view Fresh air Quiet placs
Hike in groups of more than 4 if possible, take extra water , jacket, snacks and a small first aid kit, as an absolute minimum. The weather can change and be very different from the bottom. ALWAYS jot down the emergency number that is posted at the start of the trail and get the name of the trail before you start, finding a person on the mountain can be difficult so try keep something bright or wear bright clothing, and always enjoy the views.
A great hike - whenever I do this I am on the lookout for Van Hunks smoking pipe with the devil ...;-)
Easy going hike with people with the neighbourhood. Really lovely seeing kids playing in the dams with the dogs running around.
Great walk (amongst many on Table Mountain/DevilsPeak) at the end of table way road.Spectacular views, some streams and waterfalls and pools in Winter.
Lovely place to visite
The views of one of the most beautifully-positioned cities in the world are just spectacular! Walking along the road is easy and you can take couple of the climbing paths if you want more exertion and better contact with Table Mountain. Very busy on a good-weather Sunday!
Great Leg Day activity! Such a relief when you finally get to the beacon.
Careful of the coppers, they LOVE fining you when parked here. Make sure everything is up do date with your license etc. Also, be careful where you park because there arent lines on the road or signs as guides. It is safest to park where there is a clear parking lip.
Still my favourite views from there.
Love going on adventurous walks. Exploring in nature and finding these little hidden gems along the way. Happiness is being out and about.
Tough but worth it hike. Stunning views!
Excellent choice for a slightly strenuous hike up the mountain. Its usually quieter than the other access points, plenty of parking.
Not our first time on this trail. We opted for this in stead of Lions Head as it was the start of peak season in Covid19 times, after seeing all the cars parked for Lions head we made a good decision. The pin cushion proteas were in full bloom and the ravine on the way down was teaming with sugar birds and orange bellied sunbird and southern tchagra. Our friends short haired pointer Purdey enjoyed the excercise as well. Would highly recommend this hike for moderately fit hikers.
Great experience and views
Didnt do the walk but took the kids to the start of the trail. Love the fact that you see some Nature Conservation officers on patrol.
Tranquility beyond our expectations
Challanging but had loads of man power for support
There is no toilet facilities. Lack of parking
The start of one of our favourite hikes. We walk all the way down Tafelberg to the top of Rhodes Memorial where the hike links up with the contour path.Cars are parked safely under the trees.
Nice hike, you can see all of Cape Town and the harbour from the top. Make sure you come on a nice day and with the right gear otherwise you wont be able to make it to the top
Stunning!
Pretty place
So beautifull
Park your car near the chain across the road and take a leisurely walk along Tafelberg Road to the end of the tar and back. Distance of the round trip is about 5 km. The third pool along the way after the chain contains goldfish! Great place to walk dogs, take children or ride a bike.
One of the best hikes in Cape Town. Not at all easy but so worth it at the end.
Forget the cable car - hike the mountain
Its an amazing hike and beautiful weather
Omw just one of the highlights after lockdown
I must do when you visit Cape Town......Just be careful and do not go to the summit of Devils Peak if the wind is blowing. It could reach gale force up at the top and it became difficult to walk upright. Rather start crawling and get down as soon as possible!!!!!
Absolutely amazing
Nice views
Nice alternative to Lions Head
Leisurely flat surface tarred road for non vehicular use, so great place for a family stroll, pet walks or cycling. Being the second half of Table Mountain road (which runs past the cable car station) the views from this road are astounding. Lovely dams and indigenous flora along the walk.
Nice 👍
Tough but worth it
Enjoyed myself .what a feeling to get to beacon
Not too difficult, mostly uphill. When you get to the top, be prepared for breathtaking views of all of Cape Town.
Always a beautiful hike that overlooks the Mother City
Amazing, as always......
Difficult but nice.
Easy 5.5km walk to Newlands Forest
Havent done the hike.. but dying to. The view from the start is delightful
The climb will test your mind and body, but the view of the city is unlike anything else. Pack a jacket as it can get quite windy up there especially at the edge.
It is an amazing trail for beginners, scenery is breathtaking, easily accessible from both Rhodes Memorial and Cable way tafelburg road. Can get strenuous at certain points . Highly recommended for beginners.
The best and most chalenging hiking trial on the whole of Table Mountain.
Simple hike for the not so fit. Go in groups of 4 or more.
Ample parking if you come early. There are people that park selfishly so its best to have a early start.
Beautiful but not safe. I wouldnt recommend anyone to hike there alone.
An amazing hike, recommend it highly, not so busy as other walks on the mountain
Cool hike with awesome views.
Went hiking. Beautiful views
Easy hike up to the Saddle or more challenging one to the top of Devils Peak
Nice and easy
Really stunning scenery and great hike
Easy hiking trails and beautiful scenery up the mountain
One for the bucket list. You can not find a better view.
Best part of hiking
