Alphen trail is really beautiful. Its a river trail with the most beautiful plant life. Its very refreshing especially when hiking on a hot day.. Its safe for the whole family as its mostly flat. There are many spots along the trail that is convenient to rest and enjoy the breathtaking views of the river and the mountains. There are also a few conveniently situated waterpoints along the trail where you can fill up your bottles.. especially for the trail runners

Fantastic place to walk and get some fresh air. Just mind where you step because people rarely clean up after their dogs. Some horses use the trail. Relatively safe and lots of doggos to talk to.

Great hike. The trail is fairly even and its a wonderful hike for a beginner. I felt safe at all times. Public toilets might be a big problem. But it was great fun to see families enjoying this walk together. There is nothing so amazing as being out in absolute fresh air

Beautiful place, and so many beautiful fur babies. However, the whole entrance reeked of dog poo and there was poo laying everywhere. I literally had to run after my kids all the time. Which defeated the purpose of us taking them there for a nice walk.

Aaaah the beauty of nature.. A short trail, with so many features... Rivers, trees... The smell of fresh air.. Gotta love being outdoors!!!

Great trail for a quick walk. Its fairly flat, and the path is well defined. Safe to walk alone too. Frequented by families, pairs of walkers and solo walkers. Expect to see lots of dogs, on and off leads. The occasional horse can be seen too. The Parking is overseen by a guard with a dedicated guard-hut. Be aware that entrance to the parking is not well maintained - there is a pothole/ditch at the entrance that is dangerous for non-suv/4x4s. Highly recommend the alphen trail!

The Alphen Trail is one of thé most popular Green Belt Trails.Its a favorite with dog lovers too.Its beautiful safe area to walk in, close to Constantia Shopping Mall.A coffee after a walk at the historic Alphen Hotel is an added bonus.

Nature at its best, lots to see and explore. The trail is indeed long, and flat. We enjoyed it. It is a pet friendly environment, I do however think the work should be with your animal on a leash.

The alphen trail is one of my favourite walking routes. It has been my go to trail during the lockdown period. Great place for all ages and it is pet friendly. You can expect to see the odd horse rider coming past you on the track. Dogs enjoy the small rivers along the way. No bicycles are allowed on the route

Absolutely love the place. So quiet and tranquil if you go the right time. Minus one star because dogs are allowed to walk without leashes.

Cool place to take your dog for a walk. Lots of off leash dogs, even though its supposed to be an on leash place. But most of the dogs are fairly well socialized so I havent had a problem yet. Very easy walk.

Alphen is a great trail for dog walkers to horse riders. For the more adventurous you can even take this as a starting point into Cecilia Forest.The path for the most part is well maintained and wide enough for foot traffic. There is a lot of parking nearby as im sure this place gets busy on weekends.I wish that I gave this trail a chance sooner as it is central for anyone in the area while giving you a feel of being out of the city.

Beautiful wooded trail in the hart of the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. Can be combined with various other trails in the area to make it a decent hike.

It was lovely until you half way down the trail and you find dogs not on the leash. Dont get me wrong Im a dog lover but for real people keep your dog on the leash adhere to the sign. The trail is for everyone nd plse pick up the 💩💩💩 when your dogs decide to use the trail as their backyard toilet.

Beautiful easy walk. Out in nature but there are private homes along the path. Saturday morning Park Runs take place, but not during the Covid19 Lockdown. Pretty lillies along the stream banks. Dog friendly with some water stops.

Beautiful short walk and outdoor experience not too far from home for Southern suburbanites. Brisk walk amongst cool trees and a little stream that takes about an hour dependent on your pace and how much of the trail you do. Its a regular favorite for dog walkers and people with young children.

The start is next to the Alphen hotel. Its a great place to run, walk or take dogs on a lead(there are horses around). If you run the full length up to Southern cross drive and back its about 8km.

Great Atmosphere, must visit before sunrise, as it gets busy after 8am with alot of dogs.But great walk and cool shaded areas

I love to walk this wonderful trail whenever I can. It is an easy, flat walk when approached from the car park below the Alphen Hotel. Shaded and beautiful, it is a peaceful delight to the senses - lush and green, one can smell the earthy smells and there is often the sound of running water ... and, of course, the birds!

Great place for a Doggo walk or if youre looking to do some trail running.Most dogs are not on leads despite the sign though.

Flat 2km trail walk, stay on the path as it gets super muddy this time of the year in the grass. Ideal for kids, only thing, theres a sign that all dogs to be on a leash and no cycling allowed. However you will find that odd cyclist and dogs on leashes are in the minority with no one enforcing this rule properly

Great place to go for walk with the family and dogs or even a run. You do sometimes have to look out for dog poo but that isnt too difficult because the waking path is quite wide. There didnt seem to be a defined start or end point so we just walked from one parking lot to the other. There are some benches along the way to stop and rest or have a small picnic at the larger grassy area. At some points you can cross the river which is usually more like a stream. There were some kids and dogs playing in the water.

Heart of the Constantia green belt. Dog friendly. You may see the odd horse and rider. Safe enough if you walk in pairs or groups.

The Green belt is a much sort after place. There are several in the southern suburbs and mostly because they follow the mountain rivers. The water is normally cold and refreshing and if you go early enough can catch the sunlight reflecting off the mountain while other areas are still in shade. Also the people you see are generally doing what you are and are really enjoying the outdoor and relatively quiet scenery. Its a must go.

Great location to go for a walk with the family. This forest like path has a great blend of sun and shade alike. The Alphen Trail is normally well frequented making it a very safe place to visit.

A lovely walk for doggies alongside a little stream... Ideal for little picnics along the stream and great for doggies... Can either do the loop trail or continue further to other trails... Definitely recommend it for a nice walk out...

Simply spectacular, lush, green and beautiful

Great place for dog walking, not ideal for hiking. Theres a security guard at the entrance so park g is quite secure. Its in a residential area so you dont really get that serene nature feel. Also it always busy.

The path has just the correct amount of shade and is wide enough to accommodate passing while maintaining enough distance to make it comfortable. I never felt unsafe or at risk at any time. I would highly recommend this walk. Great for a family.

Best place for walking your furry friends

One of the most beautiful places on this earth. Once I enter the trail I feel as though Im in another world. With majestic mountains as a back drop, whether rain, shine, winter, summer, autumn or spring. Im always in for a treat. And if you are lucky enough there is a stable that rents horses out to those with riding experience and so the trail can be seen from horseback. It is green somewhere along the Alphen Trail all year round. And now with Spring officially here, nature is showing off her beauty in all splendour. Indigenous and foreign species of nature live together harmoniously, with the stream running through it, echoing ever so gently in the background. Its as though nature has its own meditation track on loop. The Alphen Trail is perfect for the lone walker, couples, new love and walks with your best friend (mine bring mans best friend of course). I look forward to bringing my dog Athena on walks (with a leash which is imperitive), as soon as my dog arrives in Cape Town. I know she is going to love it as I do. I even moved to be close to it. The mountains always bring an achoring to me. And the splendour of nature in this area reminds me how we can all live harmoniously together. Alphen Trail is where its at!
