Really disappointed at the service by their Cape Town Team.Came in to fix a leak in the flue of my fireplace. Initial cost was R10 000 to fix and then the first light rain after the “fix” the problem continued, as if nothing had happened. I was then informed that it would cost a further R4 800 to replace the weather collar as this is a “trial and error” type of fix owing to the initial instalment. Trial and error means that it could continue to leak heavily and we keep paying. I understood the material cost but disputed why they would charge a further call out fee, labour, transport and miscellaneous equipment, for something that could have been identified during the initial instalment to which the response was, “I can’t argue with you when you seem to know better”. Is that the right way to talk to a customer? Terrible response from what has been a terrible experience.I foresee that you will respond disputing that this happened, as you have done with all negative comments.

Needed some spares for my fireplace. Staff were super helpful and provided free additional advice. Would definitely recommend them.

The Sons can be a bit angry. They quoted me a Stainless Steel part at R480. I had one custom made at R130 just down the road. The one assistant told me it was locally made and another said it was imported, I imagine to justify the price.

He oversaw the project patiently and meticulously during a complicated building process of our new residence. The quality of MacD Pools is superior. All you need for nearly any old and new fire place

After a shoddy installation the chimney started leaking the fireplace rusted up and the company told me it was because i had not serviced it yearly. I got another contractor who then told me has was shocked about the poor workmanship. stay away from these cowboys

Didnt honor warranty. When we wrote to the manufacturer (franco belge) in desperation i got a response from macd insinuating i was trying to poach their import business! We Had a franco belge fireplace installed by southern fires an authorized installer for macd products. Fireplace rusted terribly in the first year and we had the installer out about 3 times to rectify this(later we would find out he hadnt used the correct flu, apparently he made it. ) To cut a long story short, it was never rectified the installer stopped coming. We contacted the holder of the 10 year warranty after about 12months (later this written warranty would be turned into a 5 year, but that wasnt honored anyway so really not worth anything)Macd asked for pictures and then David wrote back saying it was 100% nothing to worry about, told me he had the same one and this was common place. They said at this point they would come out and inspect it, which they never did.After about 3 years the fireplace was completely unusable and had rusted to the point of being non functional. Macd assured us their installer was competent and of the highest caliber.Macd appointed a sub standard installer and import/sell a product that has questionable support both internationally and via themselves. We had to spend another 20k buying a new fireplace, flu etc. Southern fires was sold to a new owner who also refused to honor the warranty on either the installation or the unit. We never actually got the official reason for not honoring the written warranty we had from either party , everyone just stuck their heads in the sand and sent us quotes for the reinstallation/replacement of the flu and for new parts for the fireplace. I gather Macd no longer recommend or supply southern fires. I would rate them zero stars but unfortunately it wont let me . We own multi properties and have many cast iron fireplaces some which are 13 years old at least and have never had one fail except this one.
