Lovely quaint place. Always wanted to go and dine here. It was definitely worth it. The sushi was amazing. The staff very friendly and helpful. I will be back to try some of the dishes I really wanted but already had too much sushi. Well priced, delicious food and friendly staff equals a return customer.

Unfortunately we did not have such a great experience with the food. The prawn Pad Thai had gone bad. A potent sour smell and taste proved this.The prawn in the sushi also had its poop vein along its back. Which, I have read is edible, but for taste purposes it is not recommended.I really had the best hopes for Mai Thai Sushi Gardens, which were futile, at best.

Not blown away. Maybe it was a bad night. The waitron was friendly, but the sushi buffet which we ordered was basically empty. As little as 2-3 dishes on the conveyor, so the food took ages and we eventually gave up and ordered directly.

This place would be 5 Stars, even with the backwater smell in the main room of the restaurant, because the food was that good. Chili Basil Prawns over coconut rice ftw! The Green Curry couldve been a bit spicier but everything was cooked appropriately well. They get docked because of the negligence of their goldfish.Heres the deal, if youre going to have a fish tank, especially one on public display to add to the ambiance of a place, do your clients and - more importantly - the fish a solid and keep the tank clean and in good working order. Algae coated tank, a filter obviously out-of-order, and a bubble that doesnt work = slowly choking and eventually dead fish. Watching them suffer throughout our dinner ruined the vibe, and we know you can do better.

Good Thai food. By no means fine dining but good food. Spring rolls were very substantial and delicious and pastry was light and crisp.

Went for the sushi buffet special. Was completely satisfied, the sushi was very well worth the value of all you can eat. Friendly service with the manager / owner chirping friendly comments as well. It was a bit slow with a full restaurant with orders a bit delayed but nothing to ruin the night.

This is the second time now Ive been to this restaurant and I have only come with friends who swear this is the best place. I have to admit, its a wonderful restaurant with some delicious food! The staff are friendly and extremely helpful! I will most definitely be returning and hope to become a regular here. Its not an upmarket place, but a place where one can be yourself and enjoy some deliciously prepared food at a venue with a great vibe.

Food is consistent - a good casual Thai food restaurant (and sushi). I always start with one of their soups - very tasty.Also has outdoor seating for smokers

Chef Pons is now called Mai Thai. It serves very nice sushi three ways - a la carte, conveyor belt and all you can eat. They still serve a limited menu of Thai dishes - the Tom Yum soup is particularly delicious. Service is quick and pleasant. And at the moment theres a 50% off special on most of their sushi and 10% off Thai food. The specials are really worth it and apply to take out as well as eat in. The atmosphere can be a little stilted, typical Thai restaurant decor which is a little dark, but the sushi makes up for it.

I recommendeverything about this place! The sushi is absolutely amazing (tuna that melts in your mouth!) the peace is absolutely great! Take away is just as good and the owner is a splendid guy!Would definitely recommend giving this place a try!

Tried them via Mr D for the first time and what a pleasant surprise. Food was still steaming hot when it arrived and very tasty. We had a miso soup with a sweet and sour wok and cashew nut & oyster sauce wok. Will definitely support them again.

One of my favourite Thai restaurants in Cape Town. The jungle curry is for those who are able to handle extremely spicy but tasty food. The restaurant is vegan and vegetarian friendly. Theres a nice vibe and the decor is awesome. Except, for a dirty old green fish tank which grossed me out. Currently they are in the process of sorting out the liquor license. So you can only gets beers

We were there on a Monday night and the restaurant was quite empty. But as we were decided to try a different type of food we entered. The staff is friendly and helpful. The menu offers dishes from many countries like Mongolia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The dishes are well prepared and taste very good. They also have a selection of Cape wines at good price.

Its so strange because never had a place had such mixed reviews on Google. I found it to be delightful! The food was excellent, the vibe was great and I absolutely loved it...all at a price that nothing in the city center (maybe apart from the eastern bazaar for lunch) can even come close to! Just another reason people should get out there and make up their own minds about places.

The restaurant was very empty but I suspect it was just due to the day we went for dinner. I had the Singapore noodles which were very decent - could have had a bit more flavour but nothing to be upset about. Service was quick and cheerful. Would recommend

Exceptional good, fresh healthy food. The Thai food was comparable to some of the finest restuarants that I have experienced in Thailand.The atmosphere and service are great and the decor is also nostalgic of my trips to Thailand.This must be a place you stop for the experience.

Lovely sushi. The same quality as Belugas and Sevrugas, but for a better price. Plus they have a lot of specials. I would recommend anything (like noodles) with the sweet and sour duck - BEST!

Great food! The jungle curry is delicious. The only problem was that they dont have or serve condiments with the food such as vingegar etc as is custom in other asian restaurants.

We had a birthday supper at Chef Pons (Gardens), and once again, the food was heavenly! The winelist is somewhat limited, but very well priced for Cape Town standards! The kitchen didnt manage to bring out the starters before the mains, and we received everything together (theres perhaps some room for improvement here...) but the delicious flavours soon had everyone smiling and indulging.Looking forward to going back soon!

Great food and a nice Asian vibe! The stir fry Calamari was a first for us and well worth a try. It was a bit pricier than we expected even though we shared portions between us. I would recommend it for a once off experience.

We used to LOVE this restaurant, it was one of our favourites and we came here regularly for the great food. However when we visited recently they have added a sushi belt and drastically reduced their regular menu. All of our favourite dishes have been removed and now it looks like any other Chinese/sushi place. We left without ordering anything.

Amazing place, incredible food, great atmosphere, and helpful staff. Not to mention the food being absolutely delectable. Quite a variety on the menu and almost everything is tasty. Also one of the better asain restaurants Ive been too.

Just ordered dim sum that was raw and stale spring rolls via Uber Easts. Only order when there is a global pandemic, raw and over priced.

Please bring back the old menu, they have all these new things on menu that were not even available for our order. The kitchen messed up my order which the waiter clearly noted. They’re busy renovating and have constructed a bad taste of menu. Pricey for the quality you get, you’ll only get 1 prawn in the curry! Something you usually get in a bottle is already poured into a small glass beforehand! Bad

Food was quite good, but it took soooooo long for being served (more than an hour) Actually, a simple chicken-noodle soup took more than 45 minutes for being ready. Manager said there was an unexpected flow of customers at that moment... I’m wondering... does the customer have to be affected by this non properly managed situation?

This used to be a fantastic place with the best food... I had not been in a while and was looking forward to it after a friend suggested we eat here. Sadly it was beyond disappointing. The venue was empty and the food was lousy. Worst Pad Thai Ive eaten in Cape Town and the Coconut Prawn dish was not great either (Too much corn starch).Dont think well be returning anytime soon... ((Sigh!))

My favourite asian eatery in Cape Town. Dimmed lighting makes for a romantic evening. Food is always good. I find it to be extremely expensive though. The reason for this is that most dishes have no accompaniments and you find yourself having to order rice or noodles seperately. Portions arent on the large side. Im not a starter or dessert guy and Im a big eater and I often find that the curry mains just dont fill me completely.

Despite many favourable reviews, this restaurant seems to appeal to its loyal fan base and little else. Objectively, the food is below par and is a poor replica of many traditional Chinese meals. The soups were particularly sub standard.

Delicious and somewhat authentic Asian food. Would highly recommend any of their curries, served with Jasmine rice. They also stock Tsingdao and Singha beer.
