Undoubtedly the food served was cooked with passion, very tasty, reasonable portions and good presentations at excellent prices. The atmosphere is very homely and the personnel extremely welcoming. Highly recommended!

We have been coming to this restaurant for many years and have had consistently good quality and service. View from restaurant is great and seating which consists of chairs and coaches is very comfortable. Food and drinks are great. Top score for presentation. Food and drinks are reasonably priced. Well worth the visit. We will return again.

As Tina would say (sing) “Simply the best, better than all the rest 🎤”. We have been coming to this restaurant since we arrived back in South Africa 3 years ago. We started frequenting the Bistro because their steaks are “on point”. Over the three years we have tested other items in the menu and have never been disappointed. At the start of our visits the decor was basic but that has improved significantly over the years (maybe a woman’s touch 😉). This restaurant is highly recommended .. do the drive .. stay overnight (on that we recommend Highlands Lodge). And this post started because we decided to spoil ourselves tonight with a steak, however one of the cuts was chewy and difficult to swallow. No problem for management. A completely new plate with a perfect cut arrived at our table. Service supreme!!!

We had a delightful evening at Bistrot Louis. The bistrot has a warm ambience, superb food from an excellent chef and attentive staff. I would personally recommend the fresh hake, but each one in the party found the food well prepared and delicious.

Our first dinner at Bistrot Louis was all and more than it was cooked up to be!Covid and all, this young man didnt just carry the former Arugula baton with seamless excellence, he won the race by completely transforming this intimate Welgemoed restaurant into a unique feastery that somehow manages to be both elegantly contemporary, yet comfortably welcoming. The food is wholesome, uncomplicated but expertly delicious.Welgemoed Community, we highly recommend this heart-warmingly charming feastery for family dinners, business get-togethers, friendly coffees, and romantic suppers!

Very disappointed. Maybe they changed management recently (or perhaps it is just the food offering that has changed.)Name changed from Aragula to Bistrot Louis, but I’m assuming it’s the same team there still. Same chef. Liquor menu still very much the same. New layout and interior, less intimate but still unique and different. Menu is extremely disappointing, nothing like the previous menu. Perhaps the new limited menu will be what other people enjoy but I am very sad to see that my favorite dishes had been removed. Waiters and staff are still nice but I definitely won’t be returning.

Delicious food and friendly service. Chef Louis and his team clearly uphold great standards. We ordered takeaways from the adjusted lockdown menu. The highlight for us was the Pork and Sage Meatballs with Gnocchi, which was incredibly delicious and can highly recommend it. The Beef Short Rib was really tender and tasty. The Pork Loin Ribs was also delicious.

Great tasting food with excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere. All at a very reasonable price. Will be going again.

Amazing restaurant, the food is phenomenal, from the moment you bite into it, your mouth is taken on a adventure. My husband surprised me with dinner here for our one year anniversary and Im so happy he found Arugula! The service, ambience, wine list, food - all out of this world! Im still dreaming about the delicious food we had and we will definitely be returning.

Visited Arugula a few times and enjoyed their food and service. However, last night we were being blatantly ignored by the waitresses at the entrance and I had to ask to be acknowledged and given a table. What happen next was when a white couple walked in, they were so warmly welcomed and that put a bitter taste in my mouth. Yes, I can rant and make many assumptions but my stance is that nobody disrespects me for a race I did not choose to be born with. Fortunately, there is a myriad of restaurants in Welgemoed where I live, so to Arugula, you will never see my family or friends again.

Came back to Arugula for a second time and had the same experience as before, which was almost a year ago. Great service accompanied by delicious food makes for a good experience. Even on hot summers evenings, it can be enjoyed with a lovely breeze pushing through the restaurant.

Love this hidden gem. Food totally amazing, service really out of this world and that fresh baked bread definitely worth coming back for more.

The steak was absolutely fantastic and cooked to perfection! The nutella ice cream is a must as well! Absolutely indulgent and delicious!

Starter was great chicken livers partner had pork spring rolls. Main was chicken schnitzel I had double burger with chips the only issue we both had was the chips they werent as good as they normally are almost like they got cold then refried. But everything else was tops.

Owner Louis got his act together and it is always a welcoming homely and relaxing stop.

For a restaurant tucked around the back of a petrol station it is awesome. The views are also spectacular with the Hottentots Holland in the background and the parking antics of the local Pick and Pay. The food was a delight. Peri peri chicken livers were rich and moreish.

My friend and I both ordered deboned lamb ribs with curried butternut risotto, with confit tomatoes, spinach & red onions covered in pecan nut sauce. It was well plated, had perfect colour balance, contrasting food textures and wonderful, full flavours! A super meal worth repeating and recommending to anyone!

Nice and relaxed atmosphere. Ive been here on numerous occasions and the food have been great every time. They also do food and wine pairing evenings, which could be a treat. Be sure to book for these well in advance! Especially when one of the more famous wine farms are hosted. The place is popular and can get pretty full, especially over weekends. Be sure to call and rather make a booking. A new head chef is starting this week (7 April 2019) so well see how this influences the food/menu. All in all though, I enjoy coming here and would recommend giving it a go.

Nice restaurant, but not nearly as special as it used to be a year or 2 ago. Food is good, but not amazing. Atmosphere definitely does not have the same appeal anymore... sad to say, change is not always for the better.

It only missed out on 5 stars because I had asked my eggs to be over easy with one of the eggs coming out hard, Something small but the other egg was cooked perfectly. Overall the food was lovely though and I would highly recommend stopping here for a meal.The service was good and there are some nice views to be had from the restaurant as well. The prices were also very good.

The food was absolutely devine! As I type this, my mouth waters as I flashback to that evening and the incredible food that entered my mouth. Definitely going back there again and again.

This is an absolutely fantastic little gem in the northern suburbs.The staff are friendly and attentive. After a few days of having breakfast there they recognised me as a regular and my usual drink would arrive at my table almost within seconds of me sitting down.The food is absolutely superb too. I say with absolutely no exaggeration that their traditional breakfasts are some of the best Ive have EVER had. Everything is prepared to perfection and the presentation is superb.I have had dinner there a couple of times with my fiance and we both thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, service and the food.Restaurants like this put other places into stark contrast. I arrived this morning eagerly anticipating my usual breakfast but found Arugula to be closed. I reluctantly tried another cafe nearby. By any objective measure the food and service was decent, but paled in comparison with Arugula.I truly hope Arugula continues their tradition of excellence and I wish them continued success.

First time here and I was really impressed. Advertised as a small place with a small menu but there are also additional specials for Starter, Mains and Dessert. I enjoyed everything I ate and all the people I was with also reported really enjoying their food. Well worth a visit.

This has to be my favorite place in Welgemoed! Freshly baked bread, awesome view and amazing menu which never stays the same so you are always in for a surprise.Great spot for breakfast or lunch but a bit on the high price when comparing to other restaurants nearby.

Loved this experience. Will be back. Usually you have to book, but we tried a late lunch and got a table easily on a Saturday afternoon.They make basically everything in house.While we were eating, we could see how they were making pasta. It was about 2meter long pieces of fettuccine. The breads are baked in house too.Booking is required if you want to attend one of their food and wine pairing evenings.This not the cheapest, but worth every cent.

After a few visits I can say with confidence that we have always experienced consistently great food! I could really recommend the burgers, beer battered hake and chorizo pasta. Service is also good: friendly staff and attentive waiters. Decor not quite to my taste but the overall atmosphere is good and I enjoy being able to see what’s happening in the kitchen.

Nixe convenient venue

A great find in the Northern suburbs. Food was very well presented and the flavors come together full circle. They bake their own bread and you can taste it. Service was excellent. Felt at home the minute we walked in. Make a reservation because they are quite busy. I will definitely frequent as it is the only restaurant in the Northern suburbs that ticks all the boxes.

Food is good. Booking essential. We were squeezed onto a very small table for 4 when we arrived. Got moved to a slightly bigger table that happened to open up. If you dont like cosy- this restaurant is not for you. Staff were friendly and efficient. Not a cheap night out, but it is a good for a treat. I wouldnt take younger children along to this restaurant

Sad demise of one of our favourite places. Restaurant that needed a booking most nights was almost empty. No fish...no bottled water...disinterested staff. The new decor does not make up for the below average service and food. Complaint on the night ignored. Not even a response on FB page....

An amazing experience, the food and atmosphere were brilliant and our waiter Farai was top notch, knowledgeable about the menu and very nice in general. Would recommend everyone goes and tries this amazing place. Look forward our next visit.

Used to be good. Clearly the cats away to much and disinterested staff run the place, and sadly it shows and is deterioting month by month.There is no passion in the food any longer.Service is careless.Food is degenerating and the staff dont care.....it is a job.Ask for the owner many times, but he is not there and could not be bothered t9 call back.Sad - it will close soon enough if it is not taken over by a proper operator .
