Excellent food. The pizza was delicious. The pizza base is so thin and does not overwhelm the taste. There was enough space to sit outside and observe social distancing.

Piss poor service. Took ages to get served and even Ionger to get the food once we eventually got noticed by the waiter. No management in sight. Other tables received bread rolls while they waited for ages for their food, is nothing. Food also average for the price you pay. Wont be back in a hurry.

Blown away by tonight’s dining experience and deliciousness at Sale e Pepe da Giovanni Morningview 😍 We ordered the Melanzane el forno (baked brinjal with pesto, tomato & cheese) for starters and polished it in seconds! Hubby isn’t a fan of brinjal, but they clearly got the flavor right because I had to fight him for my share 😅 For mains, we had the Linguine Pescatore and Al Cartoccio Linguine - so heavenly! Extremely generous portions with loads of seafood and bursting with flavor. We seldom have leftovers and takeaway, but we did tonight! For dessert, we finished the evening with their mini cannoli’s 😍 The service was impeccable - despite a busy evening with lots of takeaway orders, waiters were quick and very knowledgeable. They also spoke Italian, which added to the authentic experience! Head Chef is Italian and heard a lot of it tonight, which transported us across the pond 🇮🇹 Apologies for lack of starter & desert pic, and poor quality of main photos - we were enjoying ourselves too much 😄

I have been coming here ever since it opened, and it never disappoints. And, even though I have moved to another city, I always make sure I stop by and enjoy a meal. Brothers Massimo and Giovanni run this place like an old Italian style kitchen - its warm and inviting, and the food is always good.

Extremely racist establishment. Felt like I was back in 1989. Owner went to check on every table that had white people yet ignored us. Made us wait for 15 minutes at the entrance when there were empty tables available. If you want a taste of the NP government- The perfect place.

Very cosy Italian restaurant, what a gem. The vongole clam pasta had tons of clams. Portions for the pasta were very generous. Parma ham pizza was delicious. Also very few places make decent ravioli, very impressed with this place will definitely come back.

Worst Italian restaurant in Joburg! The staff was smoking in the kitchen, there was no hand soap in the bathroom and the veal was tasteless.

I used to visit this restaurant on a regular basis for decades. It used to be one of my top favorites as they served exceptional food... but I believe that there is a new owner and although the food was ok it was definitely not exceptional any more

I do wonder why we never get greeted by the owner, or get the complimentary bread, when all the other patrons seem to.Pity, because the food is great. While hearing the staff getting berated in Italian might be quaint occasionally, on a regular basis it gets tiresome.

If you want a no fuss authentic Italian experience, you cant go wrong with this quaint little restaurant. Every dish from our starter (Melanzane al forno) to our mains (seafood pastas) was so flavorful and exactly what we wanted. The waiters are very knowledgeable and definitely add to the authentic Italian experience.

An Italian gem run by a real Italian family. The Parma Pizza is the best pizza you will get in Joburg (if you life parma ham). The pasta is portioned very generously and the quality is astounding. Fresh ingredients sourced from Italy make the experience great. The staff are friendly and will accommodate your needs. Highly recommend.

A good local Italian offering the full range of meals, pasta and pizzas. The restaurant is small and doesn’t take bookings do get there early - there’s good reason why its popular. Parking is available on site.The portions of food are large and very tasty with the large selection bound to offer something for everyone.

Service very slow but food is always good

I loved the authentic Italian feel of this restaurant. The waiters are knowledgable and professional. The food is delicious and homey. The portion sizes were much larger than expected, making it great value for money. If you feel like having pasta, this is the place to go to. Make sure that you check the trading hours before visiting- the last time we tried to come it was closed.

Always great and authentic Italian! You will find Giovanni in the kitchen most times. Portions sizes are generous and can easily be shared. Be adventurous and try the broccoli and ricotta pasta (thumbs up this review if you agree). Pizzas are thin crust and delicious. Everything is consistently good and a local favourite!

The venue is unparalleled and the whole dining experience is very peaceful. The service is efficient,and warm. The food is delicious and generous portions. A wonderful place to visit

We love this spot and go there often. Pasta portions are big enough to share and they also make great pizzas. The owner is a bit grumpy and only greet people that he knows personally but at least the staff make up for that.

Sale e Pepe used to be one of my absolute favourite restaurants. But, after our latest experience, I will never eat there again. The service was terrible, after our drinks arrived we were ignored. Once we asked if someone could take our order, we were still ignored. We then asked the manager/owner for the bill. He was so rude to us and he threw the drinks bill at my mother. He then said dont bust my balls. And told us not to come back.

Good, bad and very good, make sure Giovanni is resident before placing order, a great place for any combo of pasta, large portions means 2 should share a dish (we do), the dishes are all usually excellent, except when the maestro is away.

Literally the best Italian restaurant in Joburg. Large pasta portions. Try the veal schnitzel its outstanding.

The food is good however the service is extremely slow. It takes 10 minutes just to get the menu.

Giovanni Lecca a South African Legend from Pizzeria Romana Hill-brow locates underneath the well known Mi Va Mi Israeli take out 24 hours open . he also makes anything out of the Menu I remember in the old days GIOVANNI LECCA A LEGEND FROM 1980 to today pizzeria Romana was the place to go , people use to Queue Outside for 1 hour . I live inLas Vegas Usa but Giovanni you were 10 years ahead from most of good Italian cuisine in Las Vegas and Los Ángeles . I remember in 1982 you made Gnocchi out of pumpkin a new innovation for those times , it Arrived in San Francisco USA in 1989 🙈and it was a big Hit , but you were ahead Your portions were always generous Special La Zuppa de Pesci The biggest prawn I ever seen it only indigenous to Mozambique no were in the USA you can get them in Restaurants , and you are a funny Guy. I’m glad I found you . Last time I was in your place in 1987 was your second venue at the old Jan Smuts Av it was call Giovanni e Tony Pizzeria , I’m still in Las Vegas . You are an Icon . Food very disappointing. Lacked flavor. Owner was condescending when two of us complained about two different dishes. Beef ravioli and mellanzane. Wont be back thats for sure!!! Suggest other venue for a meal.

Sale e Pepe da Giovanni (said in a passionate Italian voice).For starters, we ordered a half portion of Chicken Livers (with Chili) to share, not the best Chicken Livers in town, but decent. First of all, this is definitely not the size of a normal starter portion, as this was the first time we had to ask for a takeaway for our starters as we were afraid we would get too full to enjoy any of the other dishes. Secondly, we are still looking for the Chili in the dish, that they emphasised on the menu. The dish of the day was the Capricciosa Pizza that was topped with salami, mushrooms, olives, mozzarella, and lotsa lotsa garlic. Can easily go back for more of that delicious thin and crispy pizza, that is if our co-workers dont mind the garlic breath! Also, the Linguine Scampi Pasta with fresh tomato, herbs, cream and baby prawns was a top notch dish enough for us and our neighbours, these portions are huge. And we topped off our evening with a sweet caramel Italian Kiss lollipop, which was aright.The waiter gave a few great suggestions on which dishes to choose from, which gave him some brownie points. He was friendly but often hard to find him which is odd seeing that it is a relatively small restaurant.A really intimate Italian Eatery, with tables really close to each other and dimmed lights, give this place a warm and snuggly feeling. It was a bit strange that the first thing we noticed was that they didnt play any music but with the buzzing of the people around, it didn’t bother us too much, might make you feel lonely when the place is empty though.Okay, next thing we have to talk about is the value. You should know that you are going to pay around R120 and R180 for a pasta and under R130 for a pizza. But to be honest the portions are massive and one dish can easily be split into two full dishes.
