Been twice and love it. Food is amazing and full of flavour. Be sure to try out their chilli. Waiters are mature and knowledgeable and actually care about their clients. Looking forward to my next visit.

Situated inside Morningside Shopping Centre. Family enjoyed all their dishes. Highly recommend the calamari dish. Service was okay although you will wait a good while for your meal.

Food is great and place has a nice atmosphere but unfortunately the service is really not great. Waiting for the menu and baby chair was painfully long (they dont have their own baby chairs but borrow from adjacent restaurants) and waiting for the bill was equally long. Pizza condiments that we requested also had to be asked for multiple times. By the time they came the pizza was cold. If they improve the service it would really be a pleasurable experience!

WOW Went there Sat and again today. My friends enjoyed a stunning salmon pasta chicken schnitzel and chicken salad. I loved their gnocchi..but they dont tell you 2 versions. We had the gorgonzola one my friend ordered 2 portions was sooo outstanding - as is their beef carpaccio. Lasagna above average and burger is ok. Service is excellent & great ambience will keep going. We often order their takeout Regina pizza 🍕 good stuff if you eat it there (dont uber eats).

Best pizza I have had in Joburg and the Pannacotta was delicious too! Excellent service from Johnathan. We will be back to see if the pastas and steaks are as amazing

Restaurant is busy, so, do reserve your table. In winter better ask for a inside table, its much better.Service is friendly and good...The menu is vast and difficult to choose from: too much good stuff.Portions are big and well served on hot dishes. Cooking time is in average 15 to 20 min... they really cook from scratch.The Pork Chops were unforgettable...A must visit Italian food restaurant.

07.03.2018 Buonissimo – the term used by the Owner Stefano, to describe the Vriesenhof dinner party, and I couldn’t agree more.I’ve been to Morningside shopping centre many times but somehow missed this gem in the middle.I got to experience the Vriesenhof Dinner Party, with a group of really fun and interesting people. Stefano the owner, was absolutely hands on all evening which made the evening even more special. When you see the passion someone has for the food that they produce, you know it is made with quality and love.Our welcome drink to kick off the evening was the Vriesenhof un-wooded Chardonnay 2016 (Floral with hints of marzipan, lemon Zest and dried pear) which you could pick up.To nibble we got the most delicious Focaccia bread, which one could easily over indulge in, with a smear of butter.Starters was a delicious Calamari, Chorizo and Chickpea Crostini. Full of flavours and a nice crunch to the Crostini, and it went down REALLY well with the Vriesenhof Grenache 2016. If you know me, I am not usually a red wine fan, but OH my word, this one was really good. It was slight on the tongue and just had a great all round taste. I was really impressed with this one.First course, consisted of Rigatoni with Fresh Mussels and Braised Fennel, and was paired with the Vriesenhof Chardonnay 2015. Personally, I needed the Rigatoni cooked a bit more, the fruity flavours paired really well with the wine.Second course, probably the most prominent course. Madagascan Green Pepper Fillet with a Potato Gratin. Absolutely Bold flavours the Pepper sauce really gave it a kick. The fillet was a bit undercooked to what I normally would have (yes I’m one of those that normally need my meat completely dead) but I ate the pieces that were cooked a bit more and indulged in the taste thereof. This was paired with the Vriesenhof Kallista 2013, which is has aromas of red fruit with a smokey finish and has a slightly peppery taste.Dessert - now here was a thing of beauty. Simple delicate Berries and Caramel Millefoglie (Italian version of a Mille-Feuille) filled with Berries that were not too tart, and drizzled with a divine Crème Anglaise to finish it off.  This was finished off with the last wine for the evening, the Vriesenhof Pinot Noir 2015. Again the reds are not my thing, but going forward I will happily have the Grenache 2016, so I may be converting slightly to the red family.Thanks to all that made this a memorable evening.

My lasagna was good (but Ive had better). The pasta dishes were enjoyed by all and the service was good. But the place lacks atmosphere.

Have ordered almost everything vegetarian on the menu on 3 different occasions - everything, from pasta to salad to sides have been mediocre at best. Thumbs down. No no.

Pomodoro is all you would expect from a classy uptown restaurant. The pizzas were great the service was extremely good, waiters are friendly. A very comfortable and elegant dining experience not too heavy on the wallet though (which is a great thing) . A great idea for and location for date an anniversary or just a nice place to spoil some one special

Good Italian place. Nothing spectacular or incredible, but great nonetheless.

Terrible service tonight, do not run a restaurant at full capacity if your kitchen cannot cope with the demand. We are extremely busy is a poor excuse for not informing your customers bwhats going on. Also not once in 2 hours did some come ask if we wanted a drink or to update us on our food order. Do not tell me its a 30 minute wait when its infact a 90 minute wait.

We have returned many a time to Pomodoro and have never been disappointed, Stefano keeps an eye over everything and runs a great outfit, the best pizza and pasta to be found in the North. The mark up on the wine is not as punishing as the norm in the restaurant experience which is a refreshing change. Not being an Italian of course makes it an impertinence to pronounce on Italian food rankings, but for us, this is the best in our neighborhood. This restaurant has recently relocated to the Wedge Shopping Centre which permits greater seating capacity.

Simply put, the flavour of the pasta dishes linger with you for days. Perfection in a few bowls. The salmon spaghetti, lamb penne and even the Ogli olio one was fantastic.

On the 3 January 2017, my family and I had dinner at Pomodoro at the Morningside Shopping Centre.The food and service were outstanding.My husband had the veal, my daughter a seafood pasta and her boyfriend had the line fish.I had a pasta dish with olives and Italian tomatoes, which was cold when I received it. The server took it away and I was given a fresh plate of food with the mozzarella in a separate dish.We all concluded that it was one of the best meals out weve all had in a long time, and we all dine out quite frequently.If you want authentic, Italian cuisine, this is the place to go.Exceptional food, superb service and well priced.

This was our fourth visit. Previous meals were outstanding, so we chose Pomodoro for a special Valentines evening. First, we were shown the wrong table, as there were two Barrys, remarkably with different surnames and cell numbers. We were placed on the highway, my wife being bumped several times, and her chair knocked twice by Mommies with prams and shopping trolleys, who we hope maneuver motor vehicles better. Eventually we were moved to a nice corner. My wife looked gorgeous - having dressed up for the occasion. I was tempted to lean over and give her a kiss. The lighting seemed strangely inappropriate, I was distinctly reminded of playing tennis on a flood-lit tennis court at 10pm.I was expecting a romantic evening, but was disappointed. Not a red balloon or ribbon or chocolate or rose or candle in sight. Just bland ivory.The manager was run off his feet, clearly needing help. A second manager and a front-of house person desperately required. Our only amusement was in watching couples arriving with high expectations, unable to be shown their tables, wandering around aimlessly.Our waiter was uninspiring, unemotional, unhelpful, unresponsive and unexciting. We were well into our meal when the heard the table alongside being offered the specials - what specials we wondered....?Not that we werent served, but the motions were purely transactional - we ordered and received our mains after a brief wait, we ordered and were served our wine, We begged to be served again, and eventually got our deserts and coffee. We asked for the bill, paid and left. All that happened, but without emotion or flair.I ordered rosemary-infused baby chicken. I got a beautiful looking and smelling rosemary bush in the shape of a baby chicken. It was tasty - too tasty. I now know what it feels like to be a wild goat roaming the hills in Greece, foraging on sun-dried rosemary bushes. Perhaps thats a bit harsh - the chicken was very well-cooked, and I quickly got used to the taste.All things considered, it was average. The prices demand something more, a little extra, the ambience one anticipates when choosing a special venue for a special event. It left us wishing we chose next door instead though.Will we go back? Yes! 3 Good and 1 average experiences ensures we will give them another chance.

Expected a lot from this Resturant but perhaps hoping for too much. . . Many have attempted to to Good Italian food and while they are good it doesnt offer anything truly extraordinary.Service was top notch but while the pizza was ok, the pasta was lack Lustre. If want something mind blowing or close to it try Topo gigio, Mastrantonio, Bellinis, Doppio Zero or even Piza e Vino.

The atmosphere was enjoyable, however, the food was overrated in terms of what youre going to be paying for it. The staff are friendly and helpful, which definitely helped. Overall its an alright experience with over priced food.

Food was okay, service was lovely until it was time to pay. We rounded our bill up to a certain number, but the waiter demanded a bigger tip. As the service was very good we didnt mind paying the extra money but, honestly, the way he demanded it made us feel very uncomfortable.

I ordered pizzas on Uber eats. No mention of garlic on the menu but pizza was packed with garlic. Pizzas were also burnt on the edges and doughy in the middle.They did look and taste good otherwise and arrived 40 mins from ordering.Dont know if I would chance going there again and would rather go down the road to Polpetta at the Wedge or even Lucas at the bottom of Rivonia Road for more authentic Italian.

Has a great ambiance with attention to detail. Great Italian experience. I am sure an evening dinner experience would be great.

Penny pinching like this is very bad for ones reputation. We will not go there again. When I pointed it out to the Maitre De the response was simply:: Oh!.

We were a party of seven that had dinner here. The two of us that had the prawn pizza got home and did not feel very well. We ended up vomiting about an hour after we got home. Im always skeptical about ordering prawns but I thought this restaurant would get it right. I guess I was wrong.
