Sadly, I now understand one of the contributing factors of OB franchises closing; deterioration of quality.The atmosphere was good and the staff were friendly.I do not feel that protocols of social distancing have been placed here. Spacing between customers are inadequate. Also, there was no soap in all the ladies toilet facilities.Starters ordered were the following:Oysters: Can’t complain here, basically tasted like it was from the sea and went straight into my plate, beautiful!Mussel soup: Tasted like chicken soup with canned mussels, I found that to be quite sad.Salmon sashimi: The first order had to be sent away, the menu didn’t state that spices and sesame seeds would be added to this dish. I honestly haven’t seen any restuarant do this to such a beautiful piece of meat. Once that gunk was off, I had my sashimi. Tasted great but you’d swear it was meant to be sliced like a carpaccio, it was extremely small for the price placed. I’d suggest ordering a dish like this at either Parrots restaurant or Kung fu kitchen, at least you would get value for your money and the actual dish that was ordered.Mains were the following:Platter for one: Grilled. Everything was there but you had to go swimming in the sauce to find your meal. Rice was undercooked and the sauce tasted like a heavy hand of lemon mixed with margarine, one would say that it’s unappetising.8 Queen prawns: Tasted good but some of the prawns were overcooked and because of that I found it very difficult to peel my meat off of the shell. Rice also undercooked.Top up calamari heads fried: Tasted very nice though the portion and the price was not worth it. It was also swimming in that margarine disaster of a sauce.Based on this experience, I will not go back to this OB or any other, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.I feel there are other restaurants who don’t specialise in seafood that will definitely give OB a run for it’s money.

Disgusting! Our experience last night was horrendous. I ordered the calamari starter for R59, to say the portion size for what you are paying is pathetic, is an understatement, not to mention how over cooked they were, like chewing pieces of tyre. I also ordered a side of rice and 5 mussels, firstly the rice was under cooked and raw. Im sure I chipped a tooth. The mussels were bitter. The lemon butter sauce tasted old. Then, my boyfriend and daughter ordered the fish sticky rice, which didnt look appetizing at all and tasted as bad as it looked. We ended up paying a bill of R450 and still had to stop at kfc afterward to order something to eat because we were still hungry. The only decent part of the whole experience was the pina cold mocktail and the panko zucchini. Up your game OB wonderboom junction, you are far from up to standard with your other stores!

I had a great time with my family. Our waiter Dexter was superb, great service from him and the food was lovely and very fresh. My mother loved the dinner and she was happy. This branch is better than other branches Ive been to and the service I receive is better as well. Friendly service and stunning waiter.

.... So its Sunday afternoon,I ordered Family Platter (chips, rice, fish, calamari and prawns, all fried. The fish was swimming in oil and when I made the waiter aware of such, he said madam you ordered fried so I tell him that fried fish doesnt mean it must swim in oil.....so the manager was called who said sorry for that, can I put it in a take away for you?😮 how can I take such home. Anyways I thought I should share my experience with you guys. As for me I am not going back there.

Food was very good, but spoiled by terrible music, made us leave early to go have coffee and dessert elsewhere! We complained as well as the people at the table next to us, they also left saying they cant stand the music any longer, even the waiter said so many people complain about the music its unbelievable!!

Cold food slow service and then baked seafood and excuses

Highly disappointed. The fish/ shellfish was not fresh at all. One would think it was off / rotten due to the foul smell. Not risking getting food poisoning, nope.

Your restaurant is too open but besides me and my family enjoyed our family platter and a 1l of Molito ,the fish and prawns were well cooked but the rice was a bit undone .Friendly service from our waiter Emmanuel he made sure we were well looked after at all times ...Keep it up

Sadly the worst OB experience ever. 4 Meals and all disappointing. My Sole was an excuse for a meal. The add on prawns disgusting. I wont go back.

Rice under cooked, as if it was just soaked. Half the prawns was not cleaned properly. Food was just wasted. Calamari steak was good. This was Wonerboom Junction.

Food as always a winning recipe. Except this time the cream in the desert was sour? Cant you smell it Mr Chef? THEN, Service pathetic. Manager unable to open a wine bottle, then has the nerve to be irritated with me for opening the bottle. The prices has also become a issue. Will never go back to Wonderboom again.

I had a horrible experience at ocean basket wonderboom junction. The food was disgusting. The fish was sticky like chappie, the squid heads felt like I was eating stones., the prawns was hard. I think they gave me food that was made a week ago I was so disappointed. I would never recommend anyone to buy food there .

Poor service very disappointing! I called to place an order for collection. When I got there no one knew anything about my order. The staff didnt even care and when I enquired I was referred to a guy who looked even more confused. I dont know whats happening at that restaurant but serious management intervention is needed. But for now Ill support restaurants that are serious about customer service.

Our waitress Marelize was attentive, friendly and accommodating.Well go back for sure.Id like something to be done about the flies that bugged us during our meal

Poor service,Poor food.Waited basically for 45 mins for a grilled salmon,while the restaurant was not busy.Worst of all when the food arrived,tasteless,dry and overcooked.Next time if you feel like Ocean Basket rather visit another branch.

Ordered family platter from Mr D. The calamari is fried to hell, hard as a rock. We chose to get chips and half chips and rice as sides but got the opposite. I have never had a gud experience with their take away food unless u sit there and check before u leave so u can send back

We ordered a take away platter for two which is usually what we order when we eat in so thought it would be fine.I definitely dont recommend ordering take away, we waited over an hour for our food which was also cold by the time we got it.The quality was very poor and very unexpected, waiter was unfriendly as well.We got what looked like a platter for one, literally half of what you would normally get when you eat in and so not worth the time and money.

2nd Time we took a takeaway meal and the portions are kiddies portion size. Rather spend money at another place. Photo below shows actual amount of calamari. Really pathetic place

Called from Hartbeespoort to order the person told me the order would be ready in 30 minutes just to get there and wait over an additional 30 minutes for our order the food was nice but the service needs to be improved alot

The waiter was good.. However customers are limited to 1 bun, 1 tooth pick, 1 wet wipe. You wait longer for meals to be served

Ran out of some of the condiments, and the fish was not fresh. (ordered fish & calamari) I dont think I will ever come back here.

Please rectify the order feature on Mr Delivery app. This is the 3rd time trying and it still wont allow me to check out when selecting certain items.Also, your staff that take orders telephonically are incredibly rude.

Terrible we delivered one night from them and they forgot everything we ordered 3 calamari and Prawns and they forgot the prawns in every one and some of the calamari was raw

Seafood is my favorite but the experience I had yesterday made me think twice about buying at ocean basket ever again, we bought food there take away to my surprise the taste was horrible to say the least and there was nothing fresh about that meal. Ocean Basket Wonderboom Junction I will never ever go there again.

The calamari was over cooked, the food was bland and the rice over cooked it was mushy. The food also came in drips and drabs, the prawns were over cooked too. Wont be coming back. And i dont recommend this ocean basket.

Price on menu not what you get on your bill. Also used to get calamari heads and tubes as an extra now you pay separately for each item. Can’t they just weigh it together.But other ocean baskets has no problemTook them 3 times to give me the correct bill.Hopefully I will get good food.

This is the only Ocean Basket that I have been to that do NOT give you a welcoming bread as advertised. Me and my wife always just get 2 very thinly sliced and small pieces of bread if we are lucky maybe 3. The last time the bread if you can even call it bread was burnt on the top crust. Further more the food is great and service is not to bad.

I went in on 20th December 2020, around 2pm. One of the worst service!!! I wish I could give a zero. I waited at my table for a waiter, when I eventually got one the waitress was arguing who was going to service my table. Too busy to serve.

Something changed. Its not what Ocean Basket used to be. The fish tasted as it it was soaked in water, no flavour. The lemon butter looked and tasted weird. My lemonade and passion fruit tasted like it was diluted with flat sparkling water, not lemonade. There was no air conditioner on that cold night, while the door was left open. Their Sushi was not so bad...

Missed the previous location of the shop.but service and food was nice

Nice spacious venue that has an amazing backdrop of the mountains if you choose to sit outside. The food is also well prepared.We did struggle a little bit with flies bothering us as we were eating. We asked for a citronella oil candle which helped a bit.

Very poor service. Food over done. Tiniest bowl of soup for R70 - certainly not value for money. Partners salmon fish cakes minute, didnt taste of salmon and served burned - certainly not value for money. Main course prawns were rubbery. Owner (I assume) held a disciplinary meeting rather loudly 3 tables away with 2 staff members - very unprofessional (should have been out of earshot of clientele). Unfriendly with no atmosphere. Was supposed to be a special luncheon. Prior to this restaurant downsizing I have fervently recommended this restaurant as a super, value for money place to enjoy a meal. Very very disappointed. 😠😠😠

I Must Admit, I am not a Big Fish Eater, but I do get the Occasional Urge to eat seafood, but what a Horrible experience I had tonight here, we walked in and 3 waiters looked at us, and nothing. we continued to stand around for a few seconds, and then decided to have a seat. after a good couple of minutes wich felt like forever my wife went and called a waiter. the waiter brought us dirty menus full of oily fingerprints and oil spots. the glasses and cutlery were full of dishwasher stains and spots, it looked like the waiters did not want to be there, this particular Ocean Basket @Wonderboom Junction will never see me again... it was by far the worst experience I have ever had,

After our very bad experience (see my photos and review) with Ocean Basket Ninapark, we asked for the bill for the drinks and rather came here. What a HUGE difference!! Great staff members, great food. What a clean and pleasant experience.

Order Fish and Prawn combo for delivery. Only received the fish, no prawns. I paid R201 for a R91 meal!!!

Orderd a crouton salad - no croutons; just pieces of bread. Got to ask for salt & pepper; wheres the spoon for the garlic, tartar sauce etc. No ice to keep the wine cold. Havent seen the manager since we arrived - not to lekka. The food tates well - cant complain. Harry, not much has changed since you were here!

Ocean Basket is one of our favourite places to go, unfortunately this OB was a huge let down. My partners Kingklip was so over cooked it looked like biltong, the spinach looked and tasted horrible. What happened? This used to be a nice restaurant.

Order R175 Salmon. They sent the off cuts and slap some tuna on the plate to complete this. I sent it back just to get half frozen bad cut salmon. The quality of food since 2 years back is going down down down

I had lunch there and it was as could be expected from Ocean Basket.Good food, friendly staff.I erroneously rated this branch of Ocean Basket low instead of Brooklyn Square.This branch of Ocean Basket was 100% fine. My apologies for rating this branch badly.

The food was excellent, but the waitress was very unprofessional and rude. My wife asked for more tartar sauce and she brought tomato sauce. When we said that it wasnt what we asked for, she insisted that it was, and then fist stopped and discussed us with some other waiters, before bringing what we requested. Afterwards, when I paid, I caught her adding another R20, ontop of the 10% tip, to the amount on the credit card machine. I seriously doubt that I will ever go back there again!

We went there last night and there was no welcome, no smile from our watress. She was in such a hurry that we didnt feel welcome. The tables were all dirty and only cleaned when people go to sit by it. Our table was not wiped, and when we asked her to clean it, she used a wet wipe to wipe the table, but we could still see all the dirty marks on the table. It was really unconfortable eating there.

Do not waste your time on this branch. What a disappointment after confirming and making sure they can accommodate us with sushi,we arrived and place orders, just to find out they do dont have sushi rice, which they then made my order any case with so little rice I could hardly pick it up. I also had my rice ball order cancelled without telling me. I have a fish allergy,and with that said the other branches go out of their way to make me a gourmet sushi platter,they did not have anything else to offer but bread,I still had to pay the full amount even though it looked like my food came out of someone elses plate.What a disappointment. No apology or explanation from owner or manager. They started packing up chairs and cleaning while ourselves and other customers were still eating,but the website says closing time is at 10pm.They better shape up,or they will end up closing their doors soon.

The location and the ambiance of the place.

We ate at this very beautiful restaurant over the weekend and were sadly very disappointed with the food. The lemon butter sauce which I asked to be put onto my stir fried veggies was definitely rancid - it looked like the butter and lemon juice had seperated and was sour tasting (not lemon sour - but very much like sour milk tasting) It spoilt the otherwise delicious veggies. My husbands fish was also not fresh at all - the texture was very leathery and in fact he left the fish in the pan. He ate his chips and calamari only. We would just like to bring this to your attention as we have eaten here a number of times and have never experienced bad food from your kitchen. Please would you consider doing quality checks on the foods, throughout service to avoid this in the future. We will return and hope our experience will be a better one. Many thanks.

The expectation was to receive good food. The pan with their famous fish and chips was as cold I could put on my bare hand. The rice was ice cold as it was still freezed. The smaal pieces of bread you could not even slice it with the knife supplied. When we complaint to the waiter she stated that she reported this to the manager but to no avail. After the meal ww insisted to see the manager. His excuse? We should have complaint when we received the food. And the bread? It was put too long in the microwave - he answered. There you got it!Everything was just warmed in the microwave and serves.They will never see me again at Ocean Basket Wonderwaters!!!!!

We had lunch there today. Decided to try out the sushi, & it was not good. The rice was falling out, the ginger had no flavor, not very appetizing or pleasing to the eye. We also had the prawns & calamari combo. That too was not good. The prawns were dry & flavorless, & the stir fry was greasy.
