Amazing place, went there for a work function, it had a great atmosphere, the waiters were amazing. Great food, great place, great people great vibe. An awesome place for work functions or for team building events.Super accommodating, we had our own space and were not bothered at all, great sun light coming in. Really really awesome place
I’ve eaten there a few times this week for breakfast. I’ve had the Shakshuka and avo on rye with a poached egg. The food is really really good. The best breakfast in Norwood. The coffee is also great, they have various milk alternatives like almond milk and Soy which is always welcomed. Their coffee rivals and is at minimum on par with loof which is my favourite in Norwood. Overall it’s a great atmosphere and nice place to be whether inside or outside.Service is excellent and the owner is just about always there with his finger on the pulse. Will be back. Great establishment.
Food was good, fresh and great value for money. Really enjoyed it.Glad that Covid protocols are in place. All serving and kitchen staff had masks on properly at all times. Management included.
A rare combination of great service, great ambience, and great taste sensations. Did I say its great? Toerie has paid incredible attention to detail, and every corner of Ba-Pita hides quirky discoveries. It leads into a courtyard shared by other establishments, with spaced out tables offering a continental-style eating experience.
Felt nostalgic visiting this restaurant. The care and attention to detail the owner puts into the dishes are outstanding. Highly recommend.
Best restaurant in Johannesburg. The most delicious chicken pita and sauce. Staff are phenomenal and great energy and experience
We were at Ba-pita about 2 weeks ago and I have been wanting to write the review for ever. We were regular visitors at the restaurant when they were in Melville. Even though they have moved to Norwood, the quality of food is still out of this world and their Karoo Lamb deconstructed Lafa is a must have.Thank you for being great!!
Amazing food, great service, beautiful setting. The passion of these owners are expressed through the excellence of this hidden gem. Pita and Hummus, mmmmmmmmm
Love the food, relaxing relaxing court yard and awesome venue area upstairs where u have a city skyline view
The food was delicious as were the cocktails. The service was discreet but very hands on. Nothing was too much trouble. Friendly, vibey atmosphere. I will definitely be back
Attractive decor with a relaxed atmosphere. Middle eastern cuisine, very tasty with unique flavours not normally found in Western food. Would be happy to go back.
Ah what a special place. We so loved the vibe, our waiter was so friendly and attentive, food was absolutely delish (must try the dessert lamb laffa) and the meal was certainly great value for money. Lovely location as restaurant does not look over a parking lot if you sit in the courtyard. Owners constantly checked on us and seemed extremely friendly and genuine. Cant wait to go back!
Good food, wonderful service and friendly atmosphere.
So I finally made my way to Ba-PitaIts now the second spot Ive been wanting to try in Melville but just never drove that way in a while.During covid they closed down and I was really disappointed, but then I happened to see they reopened in another location closer to home. The day we picked to go for breakfast it was bucketing down with rain, and i managed to get a parking near the entrance. They are busy building a small parking lot behind them just fyi. 👍🏻Of course all we came for was the Shakshuka, and then I decided to try the Breakfast Laffa with Tomato Smoor 😋We started off with coffee while waiting for our food. The place is a simple yet funky setup. Had a chat to both Toerie and Gerald who were there that day, thank you and the team for your hospitality. The Shakshuka which is served all day, consists of Roasted Tomatoes, Red peppers, spices, mild chilli, herbs with 2 poached eggs, served homemade Labneh and fresh challah bread. My Laffa was a toasted flatbread served with scrambled eggs, pastrami sausage, halloumi, mushrooms and a side of tomato smoor. I wished either the laffa or the smoor had a kick of Chilli in it, it was lovely but I liked the spice in the Shakshuka. Then as a side we had the Falafels. Perfectly fried and oh so yummy...We didnt have anything else as the portion sizes are pretty good, and the place filled up quickly.Definitely going back to explore some more menu items now that they closer to home, and I suggest you do too if you love yummy comfort food. Thanks to Bozzi as well for great service with a smile while there...See you guys soon.#TheFoodMusketeer#TheFoodMusketeerEats#TheFoodMusketeerDrinks#TFMBaPita
Best pita spot in town. No question.
Over all amazing! Had a fresh juice which blew my mind. And their date pudding with citrus ice cream is incredible.
Delicious food. Many vegetarian and some vegan options. Great craft beer. Scrumptious desserts. Decadent coffee.
We went there last nite. I was pleasantly surprised. We walked in and they were hardly any people, as the evening progressed most tables were taken. Great atmosphere, their service is outstanding. Quick , effecient & super friendly waiters. The food was really good. Will definitely be back again to explore the rest of their menu & even their brekkie. Please dont drop your stds, its really unusual for restaurants to maintain consistency & thats when they end up loosing that customer.
Loved the vibe. Prices are decent. Good staff and great service. Will go again!!
Great food, great service! Left me wanting more, loved the experience 👌
The vibe is just amazing! The food and service excellent!
Hummus and pita that is delicious. Definitely going back. Also the lemonade is very nice
Delicious beef Shawarma, friendly staff.
Eaten here twice and love the food which draws on middle eastern cuisines utilizing sweet, piquant, pungent spices on a variety of flatbreads including pita and laffa. Have had the slow roasted short rib and the lamb|beef kofta. Prices are good but I do think adding eg grilled aubergine to a medium laffa should be an option by omitting another salsa or dip. Give clients flexibility without charging R30 for a single slice of admittedly tasty brinjal. If unable to swop out, tell the client that they will be paying!!! But that said, i love the service, friendly efficient waiters and owner.
Delicious food, lovely setting and good service 👌
Ba-Pita is interesting and vibey, as only eateries in Norwood can be. Interesting decor, good sanitation practices, friendly staff and great service.I had gone specifically for a beef schwarma. When the menu stated rump, I was surprised, impressed and anticipatory. However, I was saddened not to be presented with the standard slivered meat - the rump was in cubes. Instead of being offered a range of fillings, these were standardised.Dont get me wrong, they have created a brilliant taste. I do recommend this.Prices are Norwood based, so dont go expecting anything less.I am sorry not to have taken pictures, the space and food area worthy!
What a complete gem in the vibrant suburb of Melville!Location : On one of the main streets in Melville surrounded by a variety of different stores. Parking available on street, safe and easily accessible.Reception : Staff are present at the door allowing a very warm welcome with very positive reception. Plenty of friendly staff to tend to guestsSetup : Very spacious and comfortable consisting of indoors, as well as outdoors seating at the back of the restaurant. Clean and pleasant.Food : Flavor profiles spot on for the various dishes. Authentic quality and quantity appropriate. Reasonably priced. Variety of veg and meat options. Emphasis on flavor, it’s proper!Overall : Amazing food and amazing staff ensuring an awesome experience!
Excellent food. Excellent service.
Its one of the best coffee shop / restaurants in the norwood area and the vegan brownies are to die for. Service is excellent so Id definitely recommend it.
Shwarma very good, friendly staff
The staff are always very unprofessional and eager to leave, despite the fact that they are barely open half the time
First time eating at the Ba-Pita. Apparently, the restaurant was open first at the Melville 30 years ago. 👍😀This establishment has a history. I even may an owner, who took the restaurant in 1994. Awesome!!!!!!!Love the place. Awesome, deconstructed Laffa. The restaurant open till 10pm. But you can party next door and party till 2 am. Yay!!!!!
Enjoyed the most amazing take-out platter! Superb food!
Great little restaurant with quick service and delicious food
Amazing place. Everything is homemade and so delicious. Many options for vegetarians and vegans. Love the design of the restaurant ❤️
Great service and the food is really delicious.
Loved it! Food was amaaaazing and great service too.
Superb food, solid vibe, even in these Covid days.
Lovely service very attentive waiters always with a smile in his face even when he wears a mask. Its worth it go ing there fresh drinks and food 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Unique and interesting with a delicious selection of levantine fare
Went here for the first time for valentine day with my boyfriend and was so impressed. Amazing food and amazing service. Will 10000% be back
I came there today with my friends to have lunch and we weren’t disappointed. I love Mediterranean food, and this place indeed offers a high quality food in addition to amazing service. We ordered the veggie platter which was incredible, and then order a bunch of pita and luffa sandwiches that were even better. Really enjoyed it and will definitely be back
Had a good food with an exceptional waiter. I did notice very glaringly that the hostess didnt bother to check in on us at any point despite checking in on every other table multiple times. She should ensure all guests are made to feel the same experience.
EVERYTHING was brilliant. Good outstanding. Our waiter Mc Giver for his first night was brilliant. Keep him. Everything gets 100%
Ate to last Crump.great potions the staff is really devoted..they serve with love..
Absolutely love this place! The food takes me back to all the feels of Mediterranean vibes. Everyrhing is so fresh, every tastebud tingles, especially that authentic taste of hummus. Amazing service from the staff! You can truly feel the love.
Delicious, fresh food at an affordable price. The staff and owners are friendly and professional. A beautiful restaurant, so many little details that make the experience worth while. I would definately recommend this restaurant to everyone I know.
Sad that Ba Pita is no longer on my doorstep in Melville. Moaned about it as we waited for our food. Couple of mouthfuls later... Ba-Pita could be in Kazakhstan on some lone peak and we would still swing by and visit. Superb food, great atmosphere, just magic. Its when you dont see what the magic is all about, thats where the magic is.An extended menu from Melville days, which requires further exploring. Wonderful outside area. The addition of the deli, nice touch!I would mention and recommend what we ate, but that is worthless. Everything is good. Start from the top, work your way down the menu. Roll out joyous.Too good not to be back, again, and again and again.
Absolutely stunning atmosphere, quality and presentation of food, wine list and service!!
Great meal, friendly service. Ill definitely go back again.
Awesome food, great service
Food is delicious. The staff was incredible!
Smart,clean very helpful waiters
A more welcoming, friendly, warm atmosphere you will not find anywhere else. You can see the place is run with passion and love. The food is absolutely amazing. With a unique menu of beautifully crafted dishes this is the perfect venue for a friday night date or an upmarket corporate function or even just a quick snack. Pricing is very reasonable and Ba-Pita offers excellent value for money. Would give 6 stars but they only give me 5 to work with. Keep it up guys!
Service good, food really top notch. Owner (I think) needs to wear his mask when talking to customers... that alone dropped a star.
Great place to socialise outdoors, excellent food and commitment to service
Fantastic food, excellent service, reasonably priced. The best coffee.Highly recommended.
The quality is good and the staff is amazing. Theyre the best!
Crave that falafal wrap with the grilled eggplants. Tastes like the 90s. But better
Spacious seating arrangement, healthy food choices, made for an easy palettable meal with friendly service.
Excellent service and my beef schwarma was delicious. Just how I remember it tasting like back in the Rockey Street days.
Interesting food and healthy.
This place is a Gem. If you’re looking for quality food then this is the place. It is a middle-eastern inspired restaurant serving the best Zataar breads I’ve tasted. All shawarma, Laffa, pita and zataar breads are made fresh and from champagne valley stonemill flour (the best in SA) in a woodfire oven. The owners travel and source the best ingredients for their menu. Only the best Karoo Lamb and grass fed organic beef. No extra hormones ect. Same goes for the chicken.Nicely decorated and gets quite vibey on the weekend. I would recommend this place if you are into really good food, have a couple of friends and just order as many things to the table and share. They do offer platters with this concept. Get a few drinks and hang four hours at this place enjoying good food.Melville offers street parking only, bathrooms inside restaurantOutdoor dining area with umbrellasWheelchair accessible from the outdoor dining area.
This is an EPIC place with the most sublime food. Highly recommended. Will be visiting again soon.
A hit and miss, pity, has potential but slightly on the expensive for an overall miss. The Lafas are more the sizes or wraps and for the price should include a side - either chips/salad.The Schwarma or Kwarma or something that they call it is a nice portion and they make very good pita.Their Falafel and humus - can give both of those a miss, both bland and not worth a try.Shakshuka, made with fresh ingredients but came with a very hard over cooked egg, so no nice soft yolk to dip your bread in, but a very good side cheese. So while their are some good points, for the overall experience, just not worth it.
We loved everything about this restaurant. Great food, quick service.
5 stars all day every day. Food was delicious, flavourful and presented very well. Love it. Thank you.
ExcellentBeautiful place
A reincarnation of the original rockey street bapita. Excellent schwarmas and laffas and so many delicious meze. Food is well crafted and definitely worth trying as many dishes as possible. The courtyard is comfortable and off the street.
Great place. Tasty. Nice portions.
Fresh food, delicious food, great service. Only thing is it takes time to prepare quality!
Customer service is the best 👌🏾🙌🏽
Best Mediterranean food
Delicious food, aesthetically pleasing interior decor.
Tastiest pitas I have eaten
The best Mediterranean/middle Eastern-style restaurant in Johannesburg.
Food was awesome, setting great, company even better
Excellent service.
So delicious 😋
One of the best experiences in a restaurant I have ever had, thanks to the hard working and amazing staff of Ba-Pita.The atmosphere was hearty and felt welcoming, and the food so amazing it makes you feel right at home.Definitely one of Johannesburgs hidden wonders.
Great food and great vibe
Delicious, fresh and highly flavourful food, impeccable service, great ambiance and beautiful, open setting makes for a truly enjoyable experience.
Exceptional food, first class service, customer orientated. starter zaatar lafa with 4 meze dips, main - lamb in lafa and desert home made baklava with ice cream all were 10/10. Well done guys.
Best spot in Norwood
Myself and my puppy love it there!!
A nice place. Decor has an open and friendly feel to it. Menu was simple, but still caters for most preferences. Food was good and reasonably priced. Service was good. Overall I enjoyed the experience and I recommend it.
