We went for lunch with a friend after running errands at the mall. The service wasnt great. We waited over 45 min for our orders yet people who came after us in the nearby tables were receiving their meals. I ordered sushi and my friend ordered fish & prawns, I dont know if if these light meals really take that long at this specific John Dorys or our orders had been forgotten. It even took long to get our Mocktail jar to begin with. The people next to us also had ordered it but theirs arrived probably 10 minutes before ours and yet our order was taken first. We werent told if there was a kitchen in the delay or if an error had been made. When we asked our waiter whats with the long wait he mumbled something about these people and we didnt know if he was referring to the kitchen staff or who? We received no apology for the long wait. And to top it off the soy sauce bottles were filthy! We asked him to please wipe them and he returned them in the same condition pretty much. It wasnt a nice experience at all.

Food not good enough for a cat :(!!!I went to John Dorys last week with my mom for dinner. I ordered sushi; she ordered hake and chips.While her meal looked presentably delicious, the fish tasted terrible :(. It had clearly been defrosted and badly cooked as the taste and texture were watery. They merely caked it with garlic butter and cheese for flavour but the flavour was lacking on the inside. She ended up only eating the chips.The waiter asked if she enjoyed the meal and she confessed to not really having enjoyed it but he was friendly and she decided not to make a big deal of it and take the fish takeaway home for the cat. Our cat got sick and was throwing up for 2 days.I had a similar issue with the sushi. Again, it looked greatly presented but the shrimps tasted terrible like they were frozen and just defrosted in the sink (they had a watery metallic taste). I had to spit them out :( the crab California rolls were okay but the rest was coated with terrible sauces which made the meal unpleasant to eat.Felt like a total waste of money. Likely to never return.

21.07.2019 Decided to give JD another try, not sure if this is the same branch that was previously by the Galleria side which wasnt too great. However this branch was much better. We werent too hungry so just ordered starters.•The Scampi Prawns (Headless Panko-crumbed JDs prawn on a bed of rocket. Served with smoked and Sriracha mayo) the smoked Mayo was NOT good btw.•C&C bombs (Sriracha crab and cream cheese bombs crumbed with tempura crumbs and deep-fried. Topped with smoked mayo and caviar)•Hake Nuggets (Hake fillet fried in seasoned flour, drizzled with sweet chili sauce and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds)•Prawn Avalanche Sushi - Californian Roll with prawn filling, topped with half a tempura-rolled prawn and spicy mayo sauce•Prawn Volcano - Prawn California rolls, topped with Sriracha crab salad, a Sriracha prawn and coriander. Drizzled with Sriracha mayoAll were delicious and perfectly cooked. Ordered salmon and tuna poke bowls through Reel Sushi and delivered by Mr D, what a total waste of money! Tuna and salmon portions was so small and tuna off, rice is so much and completely compacted in bowl, no carrots, avocado not ripe and very little yakatori sauce.....absolutely disappointed and shocked. Will not be ordering anything through Reel Sushi or John Dorys again!!!

Really disappointed with my experience hereFirstly the mens restroom has a broken soap dispenser and the air dryer doesnt work, with Covid19 youd expect to be able to wash your hands.The waiter gave us good service and made sure we were attended toWe waited about 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food and there were only 2 other tables occupied so its not that they were busy of fully booked.The hake dishes we ordered were cooked decently the only problem was that the chef is a bit heavy on the salt.The onion rings that came with the other dishes were very oily and the onions were undercooked.All the other items that we ordered to eat and drink were perfectReally think that some quality control improvement should take place

Gave John Dorsey another try but once again totally disappointed. Hake was overcooked and had to be sent back to the kitchen. Salad was just lettuce. Will not be eating at this franchise again.

It was my first time here and I must say....this is the best John Dorys Ive ever been to in my life.When we walked in we felt so welcome. The staff here was great and we were shown to our seat. Our waitress, Brenda, was super nice and she was patient with us when we were ordering. She did this with a smile throughout our meal.What impressed me the most about this restaurant is the kids section upstairs. Children arent allowed to go there without wearing an armband that has the parents cell number and the table number on it. This is for the childs safety. The activities were so impressive that I wished I couldve been young enough to go hang out there too.The activities include arcade games, 3D-like ride (not sure what to call it), table soccer and more. Theres also a TV for the kids to watch. Furthermore, kids are given free popcorn as well. Its just a REALLY good place to bring your kids. I love it!Accessibility: accessible toilets are available.

My family and i love seafood and this was our first time since moving to jhb that we visited John dorys at east rand mall.My sons ordered the mussel bowl as a starter which was good and so was my hubby n my meal ,however the main that one of my boys had was bad he always has cheese pizza no matter where we go,unfortunately this one wasnt to his taste n the cheese had a different smell after a bite or 2 he couldnt stomach it.Upon calling the manager he advised that he ate the pizza and its fine and advised that they used both cheddar n mozzarella...wish i took a pic.. bt I know what mozzarella looks like on a pizza and def didnt see it.

Friendly staff, very good service, great food, lovely interior, fun play area for kids. Really a great family restaurant with reasonable prices and a club card with great vouchers. Love this John Dory’s @ ER mall, definitely top notch! One of our favorite places to hang out as a family.

My husband absolutely loves John Dorys wherever he finds them.He develops a craving if he hasnt eaten at one in a while. We like the prawns, hake and calamari. We try different things but always fall back on prawns and fish as a safety net.There is a nice play area for kids which my son loves.

We only came because JD was the only restaurant open on the 31st, but was I pleasantly surprised! My goodness - I havent experienced such quality tender cooked fish in ages. The service was amazing and Ive got a new favorite restaurant. Tx guys :)

Waiter had to come back twice to take our drinks order. Food took 45min to prepare, we ordered lemon butter and garlic butter sauce which was forgotten and when the sauces arrived they were cold and I wouldnt describe the lemon butter as that, it was a pale white sauce with no taste of lemon, the garlic butter was the same pale white sauce with garlic in it.Both sauces are basic to make and can be done in seconds.The fish and calamari wasnt too bad, just the service experience that let it down...

Waiter was attentive, sushi was great. Just the Tuesday special was a little bland, chips were a little under cooked. Still a good restaurant to go to.

Ordered a platter for two. Prawns were so over cooked they could not be removed from shells without resorting to chewing them out. Mussels were OK but the sauce was like a thick white sauce with very little flavour.

This is yet another classic example of how poor the Spur group has become.Unfortunately this restaurant will never see me again purely because of the poor attitude of the kitchen manager. The food was ok, but definitely not amazing. Portions are definitely not worth the high prices compared to other seafood restaurants and the side dishes leave alot to be desired, especially if you have to spread melted liquid butter on a Portuguese roll thats stale.The only good thing about this place is the kids play area, but other than that its just another disaster zone.

Food was good what wasnt pleasing was the service very slow, waiter seemed like he wasnt interested not friendly at all and though managers were clearly visible not once did any of them come to our table to just check on us. Kids play area was wonderful my kids enjoyed it

So Im a fan of your sushi that i always rave about it so decided to buy one at your newly opened restaurant to my dismay it was the worst Ive tasted. Im disappointed, the rice was not well cooked ,the salmon was not thinly sliced so it tasted like a thick rubber .I hope you improve as Im really fond of sushi and your half price Wednesdays.

They dont have a liquor license, but my waiter McDonald made it so that I can get something to drink. That is an awesome service

We were there today just to experience the following: slow service, my mussels were cold, a lot of noise, children running every where and screaming on top of their voices. I think they do not really cater for people who just need to sit down and enjoy a calm and quiet lunch after a busy morning.... wont see us again. Sorry guys!!
