After waiting for an hour outside, we were told the system had been offline since the previous day. The lack of communication causes great confusion. People were made to stand in queues but then only later we told which queue was for which application so you lost your place. The only reason for two stars is that at least someone official eventually gave us clear instruction (albeit after waiting for over an hour in the cold). There are constantly signs up saying that 70% of the staff tested positive for Covid19 but this cant be perpetually true so presumably its just an excuse.

Once I entered and signed my Covid form, I told the lady where I should go to get my car papers. She first directed me to the left, but I asked her again to make sure, and she directed me to the right. Theres absolutely no signage or staff member informing one what to do. I had a number, so I expected it to be called. Eventually a young man who stood in the queue behind came up to me to tell me where to sit, and what to do. If he hadnt, I would have been there all day, without being helped. I think there was a digital board at some stage, but that was dead. I heard my number being called, but it was really not clear. I believe that this department needs to up their game to 2021 standards.

No clear signage on where to go, there was a security personnel at the gate initially and then some people just walk right passed, then when you do eventually get into the building the lady at the information/front counter is totally rude. These guys act like they are doing you a favor. The joys of government run offices in this country? I am so glad I can now get my car license disc online.

The worst experience I have ever had in a government department.I wish I had taken a picture and the name of the female creature who served me. She wears glasses, middle aged.Dismissive, refused to answer simple questions, unresponsive, disinterested, rude, and superior.She flatly refused to advise me which form I needed to fill in in order to get partly what I came for.She eventually reluctantly told me which one it was, and I then waited two hours for the issue of the document, which they did not even bother to capture all the information I had filled in on the form, and simply printed out old information.Very depressing indeed.

Went to renew my drivers license card and get a temp. Took me less than an hour to get pictures taken , copy of my ID and an eye test, very impressed. I did make a booking online prior.Only negative would be the lady named Helen who did my eye test , very rude and not friendly at all but besides that all went well

The place itself is fine, the effort to get there on the other hand, have to make a booking at a specific time on a specific day, and even then you are not guaranteed to get inside, and even then, once at the venue, there is no clear communication from staff as to what is going on and finally... if you are not lucky enough to have been helped, you stand the chance of having to return the next day and repeat the process all over again!!! (Would not recommend, pity we are forced to have to deal with this system, just to renew a drivers license)

I booked for a license card renewal on Thursday evening and got a spot for the following week Tuesday. Booked a slot for 11am. Arrived on the day around 10:20 ...completed the forms, did the eye tests, paid and was out by 11:15.

After reading all the negative reviews I was reluctant to come to this station.However, they are very Quick and Efficient. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes.Arrived at 7 and they opened at 7:30. The queue wasn’t so bad and moved quite fast.The security manages the queues very well and answers all questions clearly .Make sure you book online and have all the necessary documentation as listed on the website.Cashless payment only.

Theyre open on Saturdays from 08:30 to 12 which is great.I visited the Sandton branch and was out within an hour. I went in to transfer ownership of a vehicle Id sold. Please take the docs below if you need to do the same.Docs requiredSale contractBuyers ID copySellers ID copy + original IDSellers proof of addressSigned change of ownership formPs they do not make copies and apparently are cashless.Hope this helps

My client went for his driving test on the 16th of July; the test officer was mean from the start and took his bad attitude out on my client...! Its about the 3de or 4th client I took to the Sandton DLTC and I would not recommend any person wanting to do his/her driving test going to this test centre as Ive never had a good experience taking my clients there...! My clients were all test ready, but always failed because of unfair judgement..., so if I could give a zero star rating, I would do it...! To make matters even worse the test officer didnt fill in the correct test centre on the test result sheet and his name has a number in..., whos name has a number in...? (See attached pictures). DONT GO TO SANDTON DLTC.

Yeah, no, what an experience. After making a booking online, the only traffic department to have a gap for months, I was optimistic about a reasonable process. On the day, however, things did not work out as planned. Arriving an hour before my scheduled appointment, as suggested on the booking confirmation, it didnt really matter at all once you got there. Everyone had to still queue regardless. Once we got into the second queue, we were greeted by one of the examiners, of which there were supposed to be 6. Its a luck of the draw which examiner you booked, as they come out after completing a batch allocated to their list and working their way through it. In some instances, people who arrived an hour after me were taken to complete their process, while people who arrived an hour before me were still waiting when I eventually got called in. The testing process and payment process is all of 5 minutes each. However, the complete waiting time for me was 5 hours. Once youre done with the test you join another queue back outside and then get moved inside to queue again. In total, my group was moved around in 5 different queues. Insanity, thats all I can use to describe proceedings.

Wow, what a pathetic state of affairs.People who are collecting driver licenses are told to just wait outside and they will come. There are no lines inside and we are advised it can be 5 minutes or an hour, they dont know.

A major hold up with drivers licence renewals.I was told not to get a tempory as i applied early.10 weeks and not got renewal keep getting told to come back. Next i will be told the documents are lost. They say 4 - 6 weeks suggest book as early as 3 months in advance

Useless useless and useless as ever.Take your own pen photos original ID copy of ID and try and do eye test before hand to save time. No train smash if u want to do there just that they are slow as ever. Expect your licence to be ready 4 months after u apply. Yes I said it. Useless government because they cnt communicate their time-frame. Usually 6weeks. So my suggestion is to apply a month or 2 before your expiry date and a massive good luck!!! Youre gna need it with incompetent people working here.

Never book or come to this station if its the last place on earth.The 2 woman I dealt with are rude. They send you away everyday because they dont want to do their jobs. They are so used to fighting with people that they dont know how to treat people with respect.Charlotte is the rudest person I have ever come across. Her answer to all my polite questions were. I dont care! and it obviously shows in the service that they strive for.

I was dreading going to Sandton, having read previous reviews, but it was not bad at all. I arrived at about 10h10 for an 11.30 appointment...which seems meaningless. Parking was a problem...I eventually parked on a pavement, but once inside, it was quick and easy, and even the payment wasnt bad...but I agree with some reviews. Parking not sufficient, not sign-posted, some confusion about what you do or dont need. I got a booking in 2 days through our local 3@1, R110, and well worth it...I didnt need photos, but there seems to be confusion about that. Just make sure you have your drivers license, and a copy of your id, as well as the original...Dont bother downloading the form...you have to fill in a green one there. All in all, not bad at all. Keep it up Sandton...

This was actually not such a bad experience at all. It was pretty quick and easy, I literally went in straight away and was seen to within 5 minutes so didnt even have to wait for my booking time slot. The only thing that took a bit longer was the queue to pay, but still all in all 30 min in and out

I was prepared for an awful experience at this DTLC after reading the many bad reviews. I must say that i was pleasantly surprised to have spent about 30min- the longest part was the paying process. The Oom in charge is certainly running a tight ship. Kudos to him and his team for being efficient.

Worst experience ever. The usher is an absolute disgrace to her profession, she is rude and has a false sense of importance. No signage to indicate where you have to queue for the service you require. And Me. I am in charge have people who arrive late jump the queue. But cant be bothered to give clear assistance to somebody with a disability.

After the horror stories I had heard about the queues I went today armed with chair to sit on, reading material and water, prepared for the long wait. But was astonished when I just walked straight in, filled out the form and was directed to the lady who processed my application. The longest part of the process was waiting to pay but that was only about 10mins and from parking my car to getting back into my car was less than 45mins. Plenty of safe parking and modern clean facility with friendly helpful and efficient staff. Hopefully collecting the licence goes as smoothly. Well done Sandton DLTC 😊

Appointment at 8:50 still in the line at 12:13 with at least 12 people in front of me with 1 teller working. No manager managing the manager.Lets worry about COVID. I have touched everything that all the people have touch since 8, no sanitizing and 26 in a small room. Zero social distancing. Absolutely terrible service here. We arrived to fetch my wifes drivers license. The guard on site asked for a receipt (we were not aware that we needed this) so we asked if we could use an ID instead to fetch it. He agreed so we left the ID in a box which would then be used by a member of staff to fetch the license. After some time had passed an employee comes through and has a small argument with the guard saying he cannot use the ID to get the license. So the guard tells me to speak to him personally, the employee then lights a cigarette in front of my 38 week pregnant wife and very rudely says they cant issue out a lice se witbout a receipt. My wife says she thinks the recipt may be back in our car, so we go back to look for it and we find it. My wife is now too exhausted to walk back so I go back and present the receipt for her, the employee then insists that she walks all the way to sign for it even though he saw her there moments ago. I plead him to let me sign because shes highly pregnant and cannot walk back. Eventually she walks back signs for it and the staff member mumbles something under his breath then issues the card. Racially profiled and verbally and emotionally abused!A booking was made online for me yesterday and the test was scheduled for 2pm so when I arrived at the depart at 12 I was sent from 1 point to another totally confused and afraid I might lose my booking I went to the HELP DESK where I met lady A (in pictures below) when I tried to explain my dilemma to her she didnt even listen to me and just told me to join the que I explained to her that it was 12:25 and that my booking was for 2pm if I didnt pay before 1pm I would lose my booking she didnt care of even try to assist she just walked away a gentleman then came into the room from a office and told me to go upstairs and explain my situation to the eye test lady and ask her to please assist. He then gestured to a colored gentleman who outright told me its not his department I must go ask the lady just to find that lady A was already in the office telling lady B only God knows what when I entered lady A quickly made her exit I waited for lady B to complete her conversation with the other lady in the office as I opened my mouth to speak she quickly told me to get out of her office and stand in the que I tried to explain my situation to which she told me she will help me when she is ready and I will wait I stood outside her office embarrassed as this had clearly escalated out of proportion when she exited her office she said why are u standing here you think your special I told you to go to the back of the que I will help you when i am ready she then walked down the passage making rude remarks and saying that no one will tell what to do. I did as instructed but while sitting rage boiled inside me why was I being treated with such utter disrespect what did I do to deserve this type of treatment I then made the decision to see the manager I told him my problem and that I needed assistance he then called in another lady but didnt reprimand lady B in anyway. The lady tasked to assist me took me to the same room where lady was sitting she then said she would not continue too work while I was in the office. She then said and I quote this is no longer your country you think you are special,shame you are not special this is my country you think because I am black you can tell me what to do to which I responded oh this isnt my country? Yes I am special because I am a law abiding tax paying citizen of this country. What does your race have to do with it? She then proceeded to tell me its because I am rich that is why I get whatever I want to which I laughed and said yes I am rich that is why! I told her I would make her famous to which she said you think you will make me lose my job I will make you lose your job again I laughed and asked her where to do I work she then said oh you a business owner and you are rich that is why you think you are special but this is not your country it is mine. Thankfully I completed my eye test and moved on to the lovely lady downstairs that takes payments and is a pure delight!The reason I am posting this is because I am tired of being victimized and then the race card is drawn when people have no defense for their behavior. I am a tax paying, law abidding citizen and I deserve to be treated with dignity and respect more especially when I walk into a government run department that is meant to assist the public. An establishment that is not free of charge of doing any of us a favor I am going to make an appointment to take this thing further with her superiors I will not be intimidated just because I am fair in skin color!I am proudly SOUTH AFRICAN colored women and yes this is my country. I was born and raised her and I deserve to be treated fairly and with dignity.Please spread this post as far and wide as possible!

Went there to pay a traffic fine, and had a much better experience than I was anticipating. Parking was easy and secure (JMPD guards who didnt hassle me), the building had recently been renovated, there were very short queues, and the lady helping me was a pleasure! Definitely coming back here if I need anything traffic-related.

Now they say the system is offline and let us wait for a considerably long time but you dont see someone going to the PCs every few minutes to check if the system is up or down how do you say the system is offline then only check after over an hour?

Not 5 minutes passed without a new form of power play enforced by staff over either eachother or the members of the public just trying to figure out how to get documents sorted out. No information given outside on any posters, must individually inquire inside of where to find which queue. Once inside members of the public are expected to be seen and not heard and are ignored unless they dont move forward in the queues fast enough or dare communicate between eachother. 0/10. Do not recommend.

The actual process of renewing your drivers licence is fairly quick and easy, such as filling in forms, eye tests, fingerprints and getting your photo taken. However, payments take forever to finish. You will wait in line for hours until you finally pay the fee. In my case, after waiting in line to pay for 2 hours, the systems were suddenly offline and I had to come back the next day just to pay, which took another 2 hours on that day.When I collected my licence, the process was simple. I just handed them my temp licence and proof of payment and they brought it to me in about 15 to 20 minutes. It took that amount of time since they were collecting other peoples licences at the same time.One other problem, however, is that there are no signs. Nobody/Nothing tells you where payments happen, nor where the renewal process happens, nor where collections happen. You always have to rely on asking others first, and unfortunately, sometimes the people you ask, dont even know where you are supposed to go.

Made the booking on the system. Early morning slot. Arrived 1 hour before booking time. From opening till 13h00 only 7 people per hour were assisted. Upon waiting in the payment queue coming 14h30, they said we must come back tomorrow for payment! This is unacceptable we cannot take 2 days leave for this procedure to renew drivers licenses! The booking system & actual assistance is a nightmare.

Went to have license renewed. Cue was about 1 hour. Website is misleading, you have to have an ID photo. Quickly had to have one taken from vendor outside the station. Service was more than exceptable for a government institution.I would recommend having your eye test done beforehand by an optometrist. Will save you some time in the second que.

Not too bad. Collection is very quick. No need to make an appointment. Be sure to carry a pen when going there.No cash. Only card payments for now because of Covid.For anything else, get there early and make that appointment online to avoid disappointment.

Service is non existent. My son and I were rudely dealt with by a cashier who told me to move away from the counter because only the applicant can be at the counter. I explained that I needed to make the payment. She then told me in a stern voice only the applicant can speak to her ....I moved away then when payment was required I explained I needed to make the payment.she then insisted I give my son my pin and he do the payment. I told her wouldnt and she told then she will not be helping me.Another elderly gentleman was also shouted at by a male staff member. It appears that as a govt. Dept they do not have a responsibility to serving their clients.Needless to say video footage was taken of the appealing manner the elderly gentleman was spoken too.

The staff is very caring and willing to help. Did the best they can with the COVID regulations. Just be careful of people who impersonate staff. Security did a good job to catch and evict these people. Dont print any forms and fill them in at home. They ask you to fill in the form in its relevant colour. Dont ask why? Just dont.

At the outset, remember your ID copy when you go haha. I made my booking for drivers licence card renewal for 08H10 at Sandton DTLC 2 weeks ago after reading the best times to book on a Channel24 article. This was very helpful and may help others secure a booking.The experience wasn’t bad at all. I think they’re working as best they can with COVID-19 regulations. I would recommend booking for an early slot if possible and heading through early (+- 07H00) so you can be at the front of the queue. Once they opened at 08H00 I was finished within 30 min and they had 3 tellers open (as opposed to everyone saying only 1 was available). Not sure the booking time really matters so go early if you’ve booked I rate. The line gets particularly long at around 07H45.Facilities are pleasant, secure parking (another reason to go early) and all my interactions were cordial.People are more likely to review when they’ve had a terrible experience but I think it’s important to highlight when you’ve had a decent experience too for those looking to still go through the process.

Shocking. Booking system is irrelevant. Nearly an hour over my appointment (which took 4 months just to book) and I am not even in the door. System sends you the wrong information for your station. A machine is broken and the entire system is slow. System even worse than before.

What a bummer! We went through from Pretoria, facing all the traffic to get to the Sandton Drivers license testing center in time for our 08h00 appointment to renew our drivers license cards, only to be told by security personnel in front of the locked gates that they are closed till next week Monday because of a COVID-19 out-break. They didnt even have the decency to send us an email, SMS or WhatsApp to notify us of the closure. This way we wouldnt have wasted so much money by taking time off from work and driving to Sandton for nothing. 😡

For collections, staff member at entrance was very rude , due to Current covid numbers you have to stand outside , no chairs for elderly . You hand in your form/ paperwork in a box at the entrance which get take in to be processed. Outside waiting area very dirty . Its a disgrace !

Need to book via the online system for drivers license renewal. Took me 30-45min to do the eye tests, finger prints and payment. Went for collection 8 weeks later but it was not ready, when I did go back it was about 15 min for them to issue the card.

On doing the learners licence the screen indicated to my daughter that she had passed. When she went to the front she was told that she failed by two marks. When I approached them they told us that she had failed by 1 mark. Someone is confussed. Money making racket. We were told that the will be closing for a few days, possibly Monday due to the Covid outbreak.

If you arrive at 09:30 for a 11:40 drivers licence appointment and you leave just after 16:00. On the positive side we were informed of government policy to only allow 1/3 of staff and over book capacity. The staff treated us very well and were very helpful. I was impressed with the Covid protocols. The staff facilities are huge and already a decent distance apart.

You must have a booking. But the time slot allocated to you is useless as they dont care. GO EARLY. Youll fall in line with everyone else. Take photos, copy of ID, booking confirmation and fill out green form you get there. Also, water and sunscreen. And lots and lots of patience together with a sense of humour. Staff were doing their best though...

FIVE AND A HALF HOURS OF HELL!What a horror of an experience. Never done a Google review, and never given a BAD review, but this was bad enough that I had to...Booked an appointment for 10:40am thinking it would be quick and easy. Got there an hour early - yet ended up being there for 5.5 HOURS! After looking for parking for 20 minutes, I had to park illegally on a curb. You queue most of the time outside in the parking, so wear suncream and a hat (I didnt and have a bad sunburn). The staff were extremely aggressive and unhelpful to people, even shouting at elderly people who couldnt understand the processes. Elderly people were even made to queue in the normal line. SO much is unclear - from what you actually need for your application to where to queue. The woman who served me (who in fairness was only one of TWO ladies doing the processing for hundreds of people) was so rude and aggressive.Ive previously done license renewals at Edenvale and it was utter bliss compared to this!NB Note: Make sure you have your proof of your booking, your ID, a copy of your ID and two photos (one for your application and one for your temporary drivers if you need one). Dont bother filling in the form before, you fill the green one there. Bring a black pen.AVOID BOOKING HERE!

The staff is very unhelpful. Very rude. The queues for renewing drivers license cards is the slowest. Been here since early morning and still not attended to. The tax payers money is wasted on the staff here. They make you feel like they doing you a favour. Very angry. No social distancing control.
