I was surprised it was lunch time and more people weren’t there. The place is unreal. Super clean and just all round awesome place to be inside. Not a lot of places get a decent tofu meal together and the warm bowl I had was unreal! Not too spicy but not too tame. Service is great and pricing is bang on. I’ll be back to explore the rest of that menu!
We heard good things about Momo & O and decided to give it a try. We ordered the Gyoza potstickers, Bangkok momo bowl, Mighty duck bao and Firecracker chicken. Overall the food was good. A disappointment was the Gyoza potstickers. The plum sauce (seemed like regular sweet chilli sauce 🤔) was drizzled over the potstickers which wasnt ideal as it didnt leave one with a choice of whether one wanted it or not. Overall I would rate it 3.5 ⭐
First proper foray into an Asian restaurant and it was pretty good. Would definitely recommend this for a date...
My first time there was an amazing experience! I love hot food and this definitely hits the spot.A unique menu that piques your interest. I would recommend this to anyone with a little bit of an adventurous side, looking to try something completely different. The restaurant is clean and neat. And very friendly staff.
Amazing food, excellent service and an awesome time, thank you for making my 21st a memorable experience.
Underwhelmed is an understatement. There were so many missing flavours from the variety of tapas that we chose. The best thing about our lunch was the coffee. Also, nice ambience.
Superb Salmon Poke bowl, friendly and efficient service too.
Amazing experience. Stunning restaurant with great food and super friendly staff
Delicious food.Venue is good but general location feels unsafe especially later in the evening
We took a drive to this particular branch in order to experience the mostly decent reviews of this fusion restaurant…Well to begin with the kitchen could not serve us any of the complimentary shrimp fries/chips as they said they had no oil! Okay so we we thought it was a minor issue that we could live with. Then when we placed orders for ramen dishes that included eggs, were then told that they had no eggs, wow!By then we should have stood up and left, but we decided to plod on. The starters that eventually arrived with the drinks that we ordered and that’s when the proverbial doo’ doo’ hit the fan…. our starters were basically cold, the prawn spring rolls were at best on the weak side of barely luke warm, the veg spring rolls in particular were ice cold! It was clear that the kitchen staff hurriedly nuked them in the microwave oven (remember they said they had no oil or did not bother to heat the oil up in their fryers). The waitress took the brunt of our discontent, we cancelled the main meal and asked for the drinks bill to be settled and in response the rather embarrassed and flustered waitress declined to accept payment for the drinks.I believe that seeing as it was a Monday evening management and the kitchen decided that it was not that busy and put the kitchen process into slow gear.We will steer clear of this branch and try the other branches.Hoping that management will address this disastrous set of events…
Momo is always a great experience whenever you go. The food is consistent and is always fresh and of the best quality. I would highly recommend it if youre looking for a place to go that has fresh Asian inspired dishes.
Delicious food. No alcohol license so bring your own booze
Great Food, well priced. Good portions. Nice!
Amazing service, I would recommend taking some pics in the mirrored both, really cool, diverse Asian cuisine. The atmosphere is amazing, music is the right volume as not too loud and not too low.The place is clean, I would suggest switching the wooden chopsticks to metal ones if they do reuse them.Ordered a Tokyo Bowl, was really delicious, originally wanted the Seoul bowl but was told it was unavailable. There is vegetarian meal options.
Foods always great, fiery beans and colonel boa buns.
Go visit my Instagram page @Deli_kasiFor more reviewsQuiet restaurant, but difficult to find parking unless you know that there is designated parking around the corner. R5 is the entrance fee for it. A few Ramen dishes were not available and that made it bland as everyone ordered a similar dish (no comparisons could be done). The waiter was helpful and told us before what he recommended. Food took a bit longer than expected as we were the only other table at the restaurant. Tapas are on the pricey side for the amount and quality. Other than that, food was delicious.
Their ramen is below average, it was completely tasteless and the ratios were terrible, way too many massive pieces of bamboo shoots. The baos were extremeley dry and the tempura prawns were soggy and undercooked. Service and atmosphere were nonexistent. Their menu has so much potential but they just dont seem to be able to do it justice. Really disappointed.
A nice environment, with good service but not outstanding food. The restaurant is simply designed but has a nice flair, it however is quite hot inside. Booking is essential for dinner times.Service was good as the waitrons were very friendly and welcoming. The food was great. Definitely an authentic taste, but it was missing something. The meat portion in the ramen had something left to be desired. All in all it is a great place with some lovely charm. Food was well prepared and cooked well. Will visit again!!
Oh my shattered nerves. Ive been missing the East and was so liss to have a proper Ramen dish...and now Ive found thee best Ramen in Jhb. The Formosa dish was absolutely delicious and heartfelt. Totally loved the salted caramel bun for dessert as well.As for the service, Abigail was so helpful and one could even see the smile thru her mask and eyes. Thanks Abigail 🙌🏼See you guys soonNish Ramdhani
The food is delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful. Staff are quick and on the ball.
Excellent Asian cuisine at affordable prices
If you like trying unique flavours and cuisines then I suggest giving MOMO &O a try. Its the 3rd branch if I can call it that since the first inception of Momo Baohaus, to hit the Joburg Foodie scene and thereafter Momo Soko, Illovo,Situated on the ever popular Grant Avenue in Norwood its giving its neighbouring eateries a run for its money. So if you into all things Tapas, Ramen, Poke Bowls and Bao buns then this is a place for you.I ordered the Lemongrass Yuzu Ginger beer. Quite nice but didnt have that ginger kick I was looking for.For meals we ordered a variety of things namely* Umami Edamame Beans - marinated in sesame Oil and topped with Sesame and served with a Tangy Ginger Dipping sauce.* Twice cooked Beef Ribs - although very tasty, it was way too fatty* Crispy Calamari with Hoison and Sesame. These were absolutely delicious with every bite.* Deep Sea Bao - tempura prawn, hoison, pickled ginger, qp mayo, sriracha, spring onion, coriander and Sesame. Great taste but the steamed bun was a bit doughy and thick.* Oahu Poké bowl with Salmon and Jasmine rice. Chillig Soy dressing, Kimchi, edamame, Pickled Ginger, Avocado, pickled Shiitake, Ramen egg, Yellow Daikon, Kale, Spring Onion, Asian sale, fried garlic, Red Onion, Gochujang, Wakame Seaweed and toasted Sesame. Yes its a mouthful and very overwhelming. Will definitely go back and try a few more items since its closer to home. Will plan better so I can even give dessert a try next visit. All the staff were amazing, friendly and helpful so thats a plus. They all eager to explain the menu and the food if need be 👍👍👍 Im also a fan of their simple yet effective decor, the seats however are not as comfy. I adore the bottles used for the Soy sauce but its not user friendly they mess easily lol.I have added the menu in my pics as they still very new so check it out and let me know if this is your kinda spot???#TheFoodMusketeer#TheFoodMusketeerEats#TheFoodMusketeerApproved#TFMMomo&O
Location is pretty cool, with a nice ambiance. Service was very good and friendly, but sadly the food was a disappointment. We ordered potstickers, sushi and Duck Bao Bun. Everything was sweet including the potstickers which is weird. Duck Bao bun was too dry. Sushi was decent, suggestion would be to request they put the teriyaki sauce on the side.
Terrible experience. Ramen noodles had no flavour. Was missing some key ingredients that were specified on the menu. Took 45 minutes to bring me a cup of green tea despite the restaurant being half empty.
Good food and nice vibes.
Great quality food . Uber delivery packaging excellent.
Even for Vegans like us, we found nice variety of food and really tasty.
Such a cute place with great food! Its BYOB, which is so different for me, but still such a cool concept. Why not save a couple bucks on drinks.
Cannot rate Momo & O highly enough! The ramen is to die for
Best resturant aive been to in years! First Ramen place Ive found in Johannesburg.
Ramen is the bsst
Shocking !!Booked for a table of 12 for Sunday lunch .. ...after arriving .... and waiting ..... there were NO other tables I must note !! .. . we were ignored .... after asking who was our waitress for the afternoon ... we were eventually assigned one . The food is not even close to the Bryanston branch !!!!!.After ordering 2 starters for the table (6 of each option ) only 1 option arrives ... then on querying where the 2nd starter is .. the staff then “ investigate “ Then to top it all you approach the staff only to find the staff member eating a meilie with her hands and unable to answer you as her mouth is full of food ! Very unprofessional..... I would rather recommend the Bryanston Momo and not this branch at all ! Service and staff attitude was terrible !!!!
Very cozy, we sat there on a cold rainy day looking out at the rain while enjoying the lovely Ramen. The Tapas are good too, try the calamari 👌🏾
Food is excellent 👌.....waitress super friendly. Just a little warm....needs Air con or an extra fan or two...other wise excellent 👍
Loved it (especially the tofu & kimchi potstickers)... the vegan options are great.
Leave you for 45 minutes to wait for food while being the only people in the restaurant which is fine but communicate or apologise
A culinary experience. So much flavour
- The kitchen didn’t have 1) Ramen; 2) Rice; 3) noodles. Bit of a poor show for a Asian restaurant.- The food which they could make took over 40 min to arrive. When it eventually did there was a hair in one of the bao.- The bowls are chipped, the waiters poorly trained, the restaurant noisy and the manager (who only jumped in to try and save this dismal experience after it was too late) gives rather poor excuses as to why all the above occurred.- They didn’t get one star as the food was quite nice (but at the point when we eventually received it, we probably would have eaten anything).- There are better Asian restaurants nearby. Try Orient in Melrose Arch.
Ordered the shio and formosa ramen as takeaway. The boxes for both were squashed by the broth containers and had got so wet the bottoms fell out of both by the time we got home(Only 8 minutes away). Food inside was still fine, just fell through the bottom of the container. The Shio broth was different to previous times, normally its full of flavour but this time it was almost flavourless and had no seasoning/salt. Had to mix the formosa broth, which was very nice, with the shio just to get some flavour. The brisket was flavourful but a bit dry. Overall pretty disappointed this time, as we usually get such great food and expect a high-quality for the price we pay. Its usually our special occasion place.
Wonderful the firecracker chicken is amazing
Still one of the great ramen joints in jhb
Had a momo bowl, it was really tasty! A nice little spot & the waiters are sweet & friendly - this is currently my favourite restaurant! The food is so so tasty
Had lunch on the 7th. Great food and good service. Strongly recommended
Really well priced , big portions , delicious food
The bowls are recommended by me.. . Not the sushi...or the calamari rings.
Aamazing Ramen!
Delicious halal food. Great ambiance. Quality is consistent. Menu has good variety. Advice: reserve a table no matter which day of the week although theyre always happy to serve small groups upon arrival.
Love the baos and poke bowls. Sushi is okay.
Amazing flavors, great vibe. Service was bit slow only reason why its not 5/5 honestly was a fantastic experience.
Great sushi
My husband and I came to mono and O and didn’t really know what to expect. But we were pleasantly surprised with how great the food was (we tried some vegan starters and mains... delicious) The staff was also extremely pleasant, they were welcoming, kind and they had a good knowledge of the menu. Would definitely go again!
Food was great, except for the beans, which is unusual, service was fine.
Lovely food, lovely service.Area feels a bit dodgy later at night, park in a secure, boomed location (Spar) and walk as a group to cars.Ill keep going back.
Excellent food. Excellent service
Food is different and consistently good!
Great food, excellent service!
Guys, how do you burn edamame beans? Quite disappointed in the food despite being the only table in the restaurant. No response from the staff when I mentioned the issues with the food.Dont know what more to say.
The taste. The price.
Great food and service. Visit 7 December 2020. Will return.
Best Asian Fusion Ive tried so far! *lovestruck* 💘 ... We ordered 4 different items at that time, twas Szechuan Spicy Kung Pow 🥘 , Ramen Shanso 🍲, Mighty Duck Bao 🌮 and Bangkok Thai Basil 🍜... All are so much yummy! 😍 I obviously gonna come back there and order something else! Its an awesome food experience... The decoration of the restaurant also kinda cute *especially the bathroom with so many Chinese paper lanterns... Liking the idea 😃
Always great food and one of the few places.... wait.... only place I know that does ramen in Johannesburg. I am certain there are places in cyrildene that do it but have not tried a lot.Overall momo and O are great
The food was excellent. Different but Delicious! My only negative comment is tht they were slow and we hardly saw our waiter. But I would go definitely go back to sample more delicious dishes
We come here for 3 items on the menu only! 2 of them were the firecracker chicken and yuzu tart and both were not available!very disappointing!! Actually a waste of a night out!!
The ramen and poke bowls are just phenomenal! Try the veggie ramen (even if youre not vegetarian, it is unbelievable) and the Maui poke bowl, with salmon and rice. They currently arent serving all their desserts due to covid, but when they are, you must try the strawberry sorbet and yuzu tartlet.
Great ramen and great service!
Didnt answer their phones.
Organised place
Wonderful Asian fusion food. Booking essential. Food quality is amazing, fresh and healthy. They dont have a liquor license yet so you can bring your own and they wont charge you corkage. Because of this you can have a great meal at a great price!
Excellent. Good patient staff. Recommended
13 Feb 2020 - waitress Abigail is rude. When we entered she didnt greet, she just asks how many?-1⭐. Received the wrong dish. My wife wishes she never asked because Abigail was so rude. You could see almost the disgust on her face like she was doing us a favour.EXCELLENT meals. Fresh and flavourful. As an Asian, I can recommend the food.Food is 5⭐ No doubt about that and been here countless times. However the last 2 times the service has deteriorated. Everytime we thank our waiter, they simply ignore you. I ask a question about the sushi, Im told its on the menu. Really?Heres a tip. There is no tip until the waiters get their act together. Youre spoiling an awesome place.Simple decor works well however 2 things are letting the experience down and 3⭐ rating.1. AC is required during our heatwaves2. Look at sorting the flies. They can be an annoyance
So many delicious dishes here! Loved the smoky stir fried beans and poke bowl. Fantastic ambience and excellent service.
Delicious food; heart warming and tasty.
Service was great but the food was abnormally sweet and lacked depth in flavour. The spicy items on the menu didnt really have any spice , I was disappointed as I expected the food to have a lot of flavour. I have had Korean food before and this was nothing close. I would love to go to momos again as I enjoyed the atmosphere but the flavorings need to be looked at and adjusted. The only item I would recommend are the chicken wings ,which is pretty disappointing considering we ordered 5 different dishes.
Good food
