Great place for kids and affordable meals and specials. Kids eat free on Sundays provided you buy a main meal. The Sunday prawn platter special is R100 and we had a choice of R35 breakfast special as well. However I was a bit disappointed with the following: I asked for sunny side up eggs, which wasnt sunny side up, but overcooked. My toast tasted charred and my Beacon was 50/50. The chips was dry. The prawns were delishious, though! It seems as though there is more experience in the dishes containing fish. I cannot wait to visit the sushi bar on a Wednesday. No restaurant has something like that, which makes it quite a rare find.

We were really disappointed, the food was not as good as normal, the overall experience was dampened, due to food quality not up to normal the waitress was sweet and the staff were very pleasant.

Firstly when receiving my coffee the cup had lipstick on.... Secondly I had asked for soft eggs... I received hard eggs... And the yolk was harder than the egg shell itself... The bacon was better rubberized than the tyres on my car and the tomato looks like it had a trip through a shredder... At least we had a pretty long wait before the bill arrived to have take a few sips of coffee to get the Sahara Desert Chips down...

Very poor service.We needed a table for 6, lots of customers sitting 2/2 at 6/8 seater tables. Waiter didnt even try to make a plan to accommodate us. So we took our business to another restaurant

First time visiting John Dorys. What a warm Welcome. Unfortunately cant recall the name of our waiter. Such a pleasant young man. Made us feel at home. Well done John Dorys..... we will be back soon.

Has to be my worst breakfast ever. The eggs were rock hard and were like rubber. The toast arrived cold and after we had eaten our breakfast. Whether I paid R30 or R50 for the breakfast is not the point. It was terrible. This is not my first bad experience. Will never go there again!Thank you for your response. Great food and friendly service. Average waiting time depends on day of the week but no longer 30 min for cooked meals. Sushi is prepared very well, clean cut and firm. Has several specials most notably the half price sushi Wednesdays. Fun for the whole family, first date or just the loner who wants a night out of the kitchen

You clearly have a problem with the waiting timea for food ordered 2 hours for a main meal. You gotta be kidding me. As owner you are hurting your own pocket. I dont need a fancy reply stating how sorry you are for my terrible experience. Be present and your service will improve.Ridiculous

EXCELLENT SERVICE, EXCELLENT FOOD..

Poor service and food not prepared correctly! My husband and I first struggled to get a waiter even though they did not have many customers. Eventually we had a waiter take our order, my husband receives his meal without his side sauce and lemon slice which is normally always added on as a side. Eventually I receive my one out of 2 plate of sushi which was dry and drenched in sauce to disguise the taste. I still wait for my second plate which ended up coming to the table when we were done eating! It was the incorrect order, ‘the bomb’ was not prepared properly so I sent the plate back and again wait for over 30 minutes and receive no response. Until we decided to leave the restaurant. This is really disappointing as I always support John Dorys but this standard has been disgusting to a point that I will never return back to JOHN DORY’S BEACON BAY!

Firstly complements to the chef. Last night I was discussed with our waiter. When paying the bill I gave him a R34.00 tip as I found that his performance was very poor. As he was about to swipe my card he tells me that the gratuity is 10%. So I asked him where is the policy that states that I must give him 10% gratuity? He turns around saying you can ask the manager. So he made me believe it is true. So I give him the 10% which is over R100. So my husband says ask the manager about this elongation because we go quite often to John Dorys. So guess what? The manager tells me there is no policy at their restaurant. I was furious about how a person gets scammed even in a restaurant. I will no longer go to John Dorys.

Staff physically played with children the whole time we were there in the play area, had a peaceful lunch and good sushi.

The worst sushi and service i have ever experienced in south africa. We a group of 12 and only 6 other clients in here and it takes 20 min just to take a drinks order. The food is so bad and not fresh at all. Orders messed up. Manager hides away in the kitchen. Really not worth visiting ever again.

Im a huge seafood fan, but the amount of times that Ive found bones in my fish, even in my sushi, just puts me off. The salmon also isnt cleaned properly at times. There have been good experiences without incident, but the bad experiences are too frequent for a better review.

Worst service ever, fell asleep waiting for sushi which was already made by the sushi bar, but failed to arrive at our table. I was not offered a drink at the table. I was to afraid to order anything else as it may have taken all night. Not sure who our waiter was but after a brief introduction I never saw him again.

I had a pleasant experience with my family. The food was ok but the service was good. I felt that their salmon was too translucent. I am of the opinion that the deeper the pink of the uncooked salmon the fresher, however, I am open to correction.

Good restaurant in beacon bay. Easily approachable. Sea food is awesome. Worth visiting.

We asked for sushi and they had no salmon nor tuna. We could only have one or two off the menu, and we were told we are getting king prawns as the normal prawns were finished. In other words be grateful you got this instead. I wouldnt go back anytime soon.

Not that gr8. Initially the waiter seemed as if he did not know what was going on but later he seemed to get with it. Owner presence was sadly lacking.We waited a long time for our drinks and me being the eldest and a lady waited even longer for my wine? Always thought ladies as served 1st?? The food was okay but very little. The chargrilled chicken seened like it was 1 breast halved with a few chips, really small & inefficient to fill any person the pce of fish was also very small. Will I visit JD again - def not.

Moat famous for its half price sushi wednesdays, which arent quite what thy used to be quality wise. It would be fewer stars in any other city, but in East London, its passable.
