Visited after a year due to covid and it was disappointing. I am not sure but I think chef and management has changed. They used to have the best bunnies but none of the food we ate over the three days were up to standard, it seemed like the recipes were changedBreakfast was terrible, over the 3 days , it was the same things.
The place came well-recommended but we never found it. We were sent from pillar to post and eventually found a back door from Sun Coast, which was only accessible by hotel guests. Apparently entrance is only possible through the main entrance of the hotel. Went elsewhere for great curry.
This restaurant has an identity crisis. The food is 5 star, the decor is 5 star, but the service is 1 star. Which is ironic as their website parades the warm, attentive service makes for a truly remarkable experience.1. There were probably two or three wait staff on duty. To get service you have to leave your table, look for a waiter and call them over.2. We were there for a corporate dinner with 15 guests. Not only were we told to share menus, we were told to order our meals quickly so that they could give the menus to another group that was about to arrive apparently. Dont parade yourselves as fine dining if you dont even have menus.3. No napkins. After starters, the one paper towel sheet we were all given, was taken away, and not replaced even after mains arrived.4. Dishes and cutlery were cleared in a hurry, even when we werent done.5. The waiter tells one of our guests not to order the dish he asked for because its not nice.6. Even though this restaurant was half empty, we were required to pay an upfront deposit.7. When we were given the bill, the bill did not reflect our deposit. We asked for it to be updated.8. The updated bill still had an inaccurate deposit amount, so we sent it back again.9. On the third time of asking they got the bill and deposit correct.10. Staff are invisible, if you claim to be fine dining, your staff should be clearly visible at all times and attentive to the guests requirements.Overall an appalling experience and management should be embarrassed. We will not return and do not recommend this restaurant. The chef and kitchen staff sadly will pay the price for mismanagement, as the dishes they prepared were beautiful and tasty. But that does not gloss over a terribly run establishment. Tsogo should be ashamed.
Great food and service and exceptional bunnychow.
High Tea was well presented and way too much to enjoy. Nonku was amazing. The only reason I would give Jeera 4 stars is we had to keep getting off our seats to find someone to assist Nonku with the tea.
The taste, portion size and atmosphere surely did not disappoint. Although the entrance is only via the main hotel entrance due to all the covid protocols, its surely a place to visit
The bunnyz are great here aswel as they other food on the menu but the service is really pathetic here as everyone have a dont care attitude in the time the food is served, the food takes really long by that time you have hunger to even eat anything you see.
Amazing first experience here and I will visit this restaurant again. Their bunnies won the 2018 best bunny competion which is the reason for our choice at the restaurant. Lamb bunny was delicious and filled with gravy and flavour. Has a mild heat taste in the mixed veg bunny which was ordered as well. Both have a great flavour profile which was enjoyed by everyone at the table.Prices are worth it which were r65 for the lamb with the veg being r45.Other special dishes include butter chicken, trotters and seafood both in a bunny or with rice.
We waited an hour to be seated. They only had 10% of the choices on the menu available. It took another hour and half to receive the food. Then another 30 minutes to get the bill. The limited options of foods selected was provided to us without the sides. I wouldnt go here again
Not a pleasant dining experience. Service wuite chaotiv
Excellent location, but the food was bad.The lamb bunny was salty and it look like they cooked under a tree. Bay leaves, elachi, etc, you name it, it was there. (although you cook with this, you need to remove it when serving the customer)The butter chicken was blan.... Dead.... No taste.Sent most of the food back, the waitress did not even ask why. Seems like she was just happy to seat us and get rid of us.Highly disappointed....But anyways, it was an experience, never to be exercised again
The food was amazing and the service was also great. On arrival we were welcome with traditional indian drinks which made the experience nice and different. The food was served in a real 5 star manner not forgetting the many different pickles, salads and sauces that they had served🔥. Loved every bit of it👍
Ive been here twice and disliked both times. Staff and waiters have these terrible attitudes and this air about themselves. If you treat your guests properly youll have long term returns. The chef with the stir fry even gave away our food away to another guest and messed up our requests too. Wont be returning here.
After reading all these bad reviews mostly about service i have decided to rethink going here for my mums birthday as i dont want to have this bad experience on a special day.
So heres my take. I have a feeling the staff are under trained and probably not treated well by management. They seem timid and unsure of themselves. They have not had much customer service training it would seem. We sat outside at a table that had not been reset the waitress did not notice when she brought our food and so we had no cutlery or condiments. I get the feeling they have taken a beating because of the bad reviews or maybe they dont get time off. But something isnt right here. As for the food the bunny chow was decent. More meat I have ever had in a bunny. Nice sambals pickled carrots. Overall I was satisfied with food. Its 17 December I am sure they are working from about 5am breakfast service starts 6am to 10pm its a long day!!
I would like to say, From the entrance to sitting down the place looked absolutely beautiful and clean, as we sat, the waitress attented to us with menus, we ordered drinks, and have taken the buffet deal. I have traveled alof of places in my time and ate crab curries different places but the crab curry at Jeera was absolutely mouth watering delicious. I enjoyed every bite of it, with sofe roti as well as rice with other varieties of curries and salads. Desserts as well. To the menu of desserts I was hoping for a bit more in the buffet but I was not disappointed at all. I enjoyed my evening extremely. I would say I will definitely be going. From the stuff to the management being very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my conversations with the management of the place. An Indian lady, very friendly, down to earth, and very helpful. She made sure our foods and drinks was done correctly.. I hope to see them soon.
Dont waste your money and time. Food arrives over an hour late, curry full of bones, chicken masala was roast chicken. No roties, Basmati rice mixed with hard and soft rice. Ruined my grans 90th Birthday
Awesome food (the Butter Chicken is amazing). Great atmosphere. Will definitely be back soon.
Great food however the service is poor. The manager needs to improve his social skills. Not sure if I will go back. For now I have marked it as been there done that🥂
Great food, loved the weekend buffet
THIS PLACE IS NOT FULLY HALAAL YET THEY SAY THEY ARE
Ate here twice and both times the food was indeed fantastic! Well done to the chefs.
Good food. Decent service - can be better but hey, who’s perfect?Limited drinks menu.Ordered veg biryani and it was really great!Worth a visit👍
Very good
Great food but service was quite poor considering the setting of the restaurant. Set up is good and the atmosphere is great.Highly recommend it for the food but can definitely do better with the service
Dont recommend this place to anyone....
Really good dining experience. My second time here. Somehow they have managed to combine the unique experience of having one of the best tasting Durban bunnies with the elegance and style of a 5 star hotel. Highly recommended. If you are stopping by in Durban for a visit or wish to entertain international visitors in order to give them a unique Durban experience then this is the definite go to place.
Bunny chow was good however service was terrible. After we walked in it took about 10mins before a waiter could serve us. Also we had to keep changing tables as they still needed to cleaned after being messed with curry
At first they didnt have certain parts of the meals available but after some debate and suggestions they eventually outsourced it and provided as we requested.
Compliments to the chef on the spectacular, well-crafted food. Has horrible service and youd have to wait about an hour for your food to arrive. No assistant for the seating and waiters are unsociable.
Lovely food. Premium price. Great staff. Very welcoming.
Lovely goodGood service
Beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere and welcoming presents from staff but sadly its stops their, the food left my family & I alot more to desire, if the chef puts the same afford in the food that is served, no doubt this will rank as one of the best places to dine in Durban.
I was rather disturbed by the manner in which I was treated when I went to the restaurant last night with my spouse. Before we even sat down the host, an extremely young lady, rudely advised us that we need to wait 45 minutes or more if we ordered off the menu as the hotel was busy. We were indirectly being forced to use the buffet which we werent up for. I enquired about having a bunny chow and the host said that would also take long. I didnt see why it should take long as I assume curries are prepared and just need to be filled into the bread. We turned around and left. You cannot chase customers away with such uninviting behavior. Definitely never coming back. The restaurant was not even busy. Utterly pathetic service.
This place doesnt deserve a star. Very poor service , I had a boneless mutton bunny and the family joined in the buffet. Sorry bunny tasted average ...had better . Dessert was awful. MY family and I will never be visiting here again..I asked the waiter for a glass of water three times and the same waiter three times , still never get it , Just paid the bill and left ...so sad I had high hopes for the Jeera restaurant...what a let down.. Billy G 100% better
Great venue, friendly & welcoming service, I cant say the same for the food its just awful!
Restaurant Jeera offers every Weekend a Indian Buffet. Wide selection of typical indian dishes. Several starters, main courses and desserts offered. Excellent quality and delicious taste. No reason to rush, all meals will be refilled if empty even 15 min before closing.Waiters are very friendly .Recommendation: if you apply for a casino club card, you will receive a nice discount in the restaurant
Went in for bunnies on Tuesday 7/01/2020. Ordered our drinks and gave the waiter our orders for 4 bunnies. Unfortunately they could not make the bunnies as they did not have bread. This was early afternoon and cannot understand why they couldnt buy more bread. We were forced to settle for curry and rice which is very overpriced 🙁🙁🙁Not worth the visit as one can get the same meal at more reasonable prices elsewhere. Cold drinks at R35 is ridiculous. Service was also poor 🙁🙁
My wife likes this place not me
Jeera left me hungry and so upset.I went to the restaurant on Saturday, when the waitress told me that they are closing for an hour to reopen for the supper session. I told her that I would be back later.I waited for 1 hour before returning when I get there I was turned away because I did not make a reservation. This upset me because when I went there an hour earlier the same waitress did not ask or inform me about the reservation process.I encountered the crappiest customer service. Her attitude was horrible and made me feel like she was doing me a favour.I would never go back. The food made be nice but I can get thatvand better customer service elsewhere.
Jeera is a loverly place to go to for high tea on a sunday. Very good service. The food is also good, with starters before tea. Various types of flavoured tea on hand. Will go again.
Had my parents anniversary here. The price we paid for a mutton bunny was ridiculous and it would have been fine if the curry was up to scratch. I mean R35 for a cam of cooldrink is criminal.
Service was initially a bit slow, but the food came quite quickly once ordered. Food was absolutely fantastic! Staff friendly. Will definately make a stop whenever Im in Durban.
I went especially for the Award winning bunny chow at midday. The bunny looked great and was presented well. The taste and flavors were very good. However the bread was not fresh or perhaps it had been left exposed for awhile or something other. It is advertised as Deboned Lamb. I have many times had mutton curry more tender than this experience.Overall i will go back and try it again as it is worth R75 (incl a free Coke) and the surroundings outside is great on good weather.
Jeera quality of food has dropped drastically, bacon seemed old, was hard and dry, sausages was also dry , hard seems to be fried again, could be yesterdays left overs, maybe it would be better if they make the food fresh as the people order, due to covid instead of over making and keeping for the next days,
Had the curry buffet here. At over R350 a person with drinks not included its abit pricy. But the curries were okay but their veg curries left something to be desired. The samosas werent that great either. They serve amazing seafood options though which is rare with buffets. Theres a make your own seafood stir fry with ingredients you have to pick and mix up and give the chef to fry up for you. The salad bar was amazing. I love cold salads and was given so many options to choose from. The dessert was really really good. The barfi cheese cake and tiramisu was really yummy. The downside is that the desserts are tiny and served in shot glasses. All in all the food was good. But not worth R350. Jaipur Palace might not have the same range but at R180 with drinks included its a bargain. Not to mention the food is delicious there.
Extremely poor service & food quality, will never go back!
My friends went to this restaurant on Saturday night, highly anticipating to have the bunnys there, after a long search for this place, they ended up at the counter only for them to say, we are fully booked and cannot accommodate you, this was around 7.30 pm, they close @ 10.00 pm, my friends stated that there were no reservations required, the guy at the reception stated only on Weekends and they cannot provide any seating and there is no place, my friends stood above the restaurant noticing the amount of seats that were empty, they had poor service, cannot even locate the place, no advertising, no help to customers, stubborn and rude.Experience better customer services @ smaller take aways#Chettys
The service is poor really. Its a pity the rating starts from one star otherwise Id give them a minus five.
Perfect setting for either a quite romantic dinner or a large family meal. One will be impressed with the stunning deco and the beautifully dressed waitresses. The food was worth the long wait as it was freshly prepared.
Not hate have not been there so cant say anything about it
After reading the comments I won’t even visit this place it seems alot of Indian owned establishments want to claim best bunny chow etc..however from reading the comments below it seems poor customer service and good food don’t go together and management should learn to get this sorted no use if you make nice food and offer rude service to people we just won’t come back.👎😡
Loved it. We were out with the whole family. Our waitron was very attentive. They didnt have much of a kiddies menu however our kids did not go hungry. Meals were prepared for the kids. We had their bunnys, thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely be going again
THE GOOD:Great tasting curriesExcellent serviceFree ParkingTHE NOT SO GOOD:Its in a hotelWe decided to visit here after reading that it won the latest best bunny chow award. We all agreed that the bunny is the best we have tasted. The flavour of the curry and the bunny were just a little more refined. The masala they use is very tasty. I see others have reviewed it saying it is not that nice but I guess there will always be people looking to knock down the champions, especially from rival restaurants. My wife had the Chicken and Prawn curry and said it was the best curry she has had in Durban so far.I will gladly come back here next time we are in Durban.
I heard good reviews about Jeera, however on my first encounter with the manager left me totally dissatisfied with his service. It is so difficult to make a simple booking. The manager was not accommodating to my family and I regarding our booking. Payment options were limited. They are prepared to lose business and leave customers feeling dissatisfied. I will not be visiting this restaurant nor will I recommend this place to anyone.
This place doesnt deserve a star. food was served cold, butterchciken was chicken curry with cream & rice was half cooked asked to speak to the chef was told he was busy. Very very bad experience.
Guys mind fish/curry,had a really bad experience.... And it affected all 3 dinners on 2 seperate occasions. (Literally leaking oil)
If only the food can match up to the service you get at this place.
I could not help but wonder how Jeera won the best bunny competition. My mutton bunny had way too much masala & so much gravy that it was inedible. We ordered a butter naan which came to us uncooked! The waitress missed out someones order after we checked 3 times. She also tried to change our minds to take a buffet. I will never eat here again.
If you are spending a special day...choose another place. Food is so super average and really very overpriced. Lack of customer service, had to keep on calling for a waiter. Alot the side dishes were brought after the meal. Meal came with specific side orders, like Mash this was only brought after the meal was over. Ordered naan..40 mins later, we got told all the naan is finished. They have roti, but it is ordered from a supplier, it is not made in house. Supposed to be a 4-5 star...was really a 1 star. The birthday cake came with a cheese knife. I dont recommend this place.
Excellent service Awesome staff. Divine food. Thank you guys Well done
Food used to be good, I cant say that anymore!
Food was good but not up to the standards we expected after so many reviews.
Nice venue, good food. Air conditioning unit not so effective in the Durban heat.
The dish I had was tasty but what my partner ordered was an oily mush
Great service and good food nice place to enjoy a Saturday lunch
Best lunch ever ... these guys know how to cook a mean fish curry and the Trotters and beans... 5 🌟 coming back for the crab 🦀 curry.. Ivan Kasavaloo
Worst service ever. Came for the experience and left thinking why this place won the best bunny competition. The food was below par but palatable. But again the service - does management not care abt training their waiters. The most telling point of the night was that our waiter did not know the ingredients of the items on the menu. Once the best bunny novelty wear off this place will surely lose customers. A really poor image for Suncoast.
The food was really good and very filling.
Excellent Service & Great Food!
Had their lamb bunny at Umhalanga Sands....they had a temporary set up there .....wow......awesome food....delicious.......well cooked.....yummy.....Cane Cutters......maybe you should go try a bunny there and learn how to cook.
Food was divine.. Definitely will be back with my family.. Great ambience..
If u call this the best bunny then i feel so sorry ppl its salt less no taste only oil. The worst bunny ever
Used to be one my my favorite places to eat friendly staff & good services, but the last few visits the standard of the food as drop to a point that the curries have no flavor or any taste of Durban Indian cuisine.
Had dinner last night with family and friends food 10 out of 10, friendly service with great atmosphere will definitely be back!
I went to the buffet today it was not wat i expected for such a highly rated place.THE ATMOSPHERE IS AMAZING and so is the staff BUT I was Not a fan of the food.😐😐
Great Place For Indian Food.Personally I always Ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala which comes with a Variety of sides.
Saturday nite curry buffet in jeera is one of few places in Durban with very tasty Durban Indian cuisine & good service, the only thing is its abit hard to find the place since its in the hotel.
So here we go.. Frankly saying,if you thinking about coming here, just forget it! Its not a restaurant. Its more like a waiting lounge since we have to wait 10 minutes to get a waiter, another 45 minutes to be served with so ordinary dishes doesnt worth the price.Yet, if you wanted to try and get dissappointed, please throw a visit here. Otherwise, there are so many restaurants nearby.
Excellent service and a beautiful environment! The food was worth the wait, I will surely be coming back
They have won the Durbans Best Bunny Chow 2018 and the bunny is outstanding, the flavour, taste and presentation is perfect for the lamb or mutton as we say. Definitely my no.1 Bunny Chow Destination.
Wow Jeera sure knows how to deliver quality Indian cuisine at its finest. Hats off to spectacular dining
Food was devine will definately go back
Beautifully made and so flavourful. Mini bunnys are a must to try there.
The best bunny chows I’ve ever had.
Great experience and atmosphere at Jeera, friendly staff whom accommodated our table setting arrangment and birthday cake.Food serving were more then expected and very appealing to the eye not forgetting perfectly seasoned and spiced from the lamb bunny, chops chutney and fish curry not forgetting the soji and bombay crush. Will certainly be dining at Jeera again soon.I would recommend Jeera to accommodate bookings as we almost declined to have a meal here.
Food here is like home away from home
Worst experience i ever had. My dad is a black card holder at Suncoast and he had received a voucher to eat at this place. It was horrific. Customer service is pathetic, waiters not know their own menu, managers give a dam attitude. Overall i will never advise any1 to eat at this place(walked out before i even ordered.)
The food was great. No complaints.
Very bad dining experience at a restaurant that came highly recommended for its Indian Cuisine1. Naan ordered for my granddaughter came unbaked - raw dough2. 7 orders written down when 8 were given.3. No sugar/ sweetener brought with my chai latte.4. Lemon put in a relatives drink was light brown in color and smelt stale.5.. Sugar beans bunny tasted sour - too much tomatoes in curry6. Only 2 options for vegetarians on the A La Carte menu - in a restaurant serving Indian CuisineNight was rescued by a polite manager who personally supervised the service . Never going back there. Spent almost a Thousand Rands for 3/10 over all service
Great Bunny chows
Been here in December last year, food was tops. Was there this Sunday 27th, very disappointed. Food lacked taste, loads of colouring. Our fingers were stained. Something not right, for a 5* place.
