The food is absolutely delicious!!!! But the service was beyond pathetic. Ive been there a year ago when they had just opened and received bad service, thinking that they are now well established a year later service would be better, but was met with the disappointing results. People that walked in after us were served before us. Given special treatments compare to us. We wanted to order the xxl focaccia but was told they were not making these, just to have a table that came in after us receive the xxl bread. They give their tables complimentary bread when you walk in, which we never received but tables after us got this. The was a worm found in the salad we received with the rump steak. Instead of apologizing for this, the owner tried to justify this by saying its because its fresh farm bought. Thats still no excuse. The manager apologized and we moved on sat to eat our meals. However the owner approached us, which I really appreciated, however what was not appreciated was his need to only speak to the man at the table. Every single time my aunt tried speaking he would tell her to wait he is speaking and refused to hear her out. What happened to gender equality. While the food is absolutely amazing, because of their service alone, we wouldnt return.

The only reason I even give them 2 stars is because their food is delicious. But their customer service is pathetic. The staff discriminates against customers openly. When we had ordered a dish they had told us they cant make it but then made it for another table who had come in after us. We were not given the complementary bread even though other tables were given it. There was a worm in the salad that came with the rump steak.The manager hadnt managed to sort out these issues but he did understand what we had gone through. But the cherry on top of the pathetic service was the Owner who was mansplaining things to my mum as well as cutting her off everytime she tried to speak but didnt have any problem speaking to my dad cause he is a guy.Trust me when I say this places good food is not worth the horrible customer service that you receive.

My family enjoyed our meal. The pasta was amazing and so was the pizza. Friendly staff. Delicious ravioli.. Our first time at Nonnas...will be regulars.

This was the second time we visited this particular Nonnas and both times we were very very impressed. The the service from the wait staff from the time we walked up to the restaurant to the time we walked out the door was excellent. The food was excellent as well though wait for food can be a bit long it is with the wait ( they do kindly advise that the food will take time to prepare). Will definitely make sure to go again on our next to to Durban

We visited Nonnas for the 2nd time today. We really enjoyed our meals. The place is very clean and tidy. The staff are friendly. I ordered the home made burger with chips this was a really good choice because it was delicious. My wife ordered the breakfast. The portion was really big maybe for 2. The pizza Bologna was tasty. We will definitely go again but just a recommendation please could you add other Breakfast to your menu or break the current 1 down. Thank you

Good seating and a nice vibe. The waitress was friendly and helpful. She knew the menu well and gave us recommendations as this was our first time at the restaurant. The pizza was great tasting with a lovely thin base. The pasta was good but when I tasted the calamari on its own I did not enjoy it. However; when I mixed it with some pasta and sauce it was amazing. The problem is that the sauce (which is the winner) does not mix well enough with the pasta and calamari due to the plating. Maybe a smaller, deeper plate would improve this.

Lovely food and service. The pizza was a bit on the oily side but still very tasty. And the non-alcoholic mojitos are very refreshing.

I called in the order. The waiter was sharp, knew my order when arriving and it was my first time there. They dont take American Express cards. They are conveniently located. Vibe looks good, the decor was impressive. Clean and neat with a large capacity and they seem very popular. They are halal. I liked that I was asked if I needed takeaway cutlery unlike most that just supply you plastic and you end up throwing it away. I liked the paper bag. I love that they give you a small containers with chilli, Parmesan and garlic. I feel 20% too pricey in my opinion. The meal was not bad. I feel the pasta was oily but flavouring was good. There is a large staff compliment and the menu is fully Italian. I do suggest you try it out.

More commercial-Italian than say, Old Town Italy, but food quality is good. Special chicken with prego sauce? Could be called Nanas kitchen.

I took my wife and 2 year old daughter out this evening. Wanted to try something new. Was disappointed with the food. Theres no kids menu. Pasta that was ordered for my daughter was definitely not cooked al dente, she did not finish her meal as it was difficult to chew. I tasted her food and came to this opinion. I ordered a chicken pizza, cant remember the name of it, but I am really confident that its Woolies rotisserie chicken breast that Was cut up. Pizza base was dry and tastes like it was frozen.My wife had no complaints however she enjoyed her fish.I dont intend on visiting again as the price to quality ratio is off.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu however was very limited and the pasta was under cooked (thought it was just mine - turns out my other 2 friends were also under cooked). It didnt meet my expectations and unfortunately I wouldnt pay that much for a meal again. Hope the spices added to the pasta are improved and a bigger menu is offered. Nevertheless the friendly staff and good service made up for the food

I have been wanting to try nonnas at gateway for a while now, finally got there today. The setting is so pretty, makes for great pics. The food was great, highly recommend the chicken alfredo pasta.

What a gem! Such a pity that there is no liquor license here - Italian with no wine is a bit of a bummer, especially when the food is THIS GOOD. the Bianca foccacia/pizza was a delicious rectangular feast, as was the pasta. The owner should maybe allow patrons to bring their own wine if possible. Well worth the visit!

Waiters arent attentive. Service is slow. I actually heard other patrons have issues with the service so we werent the only ones. Menu options are limited. Theres no drinks menu but when we order random drinks from our head, they offered us milkshakes. Sounds like they need one. The food took long to arrive, and arrived way too hot to eat. The pizza and pasta was drenched in olive oil. In comparison to other Italian restaurants, Id say Mimmos is probably better(which is sad). I would rather take a walk to The Pearls and pay slightly more at Casa Bella

I discovered this restaurant last week Monday while on holidays in Umhlanga. I had Lunch there with my husband and kids and absolutely loved it. Big portions and Delicious food. We ordered the Beef Alfredo, Lamb Chops and the Napoli Pizza we all enjoyed our meals. Never knew there was one here in Menlyn. I hope it is as good as the one at Gateway!!!

Had the pleasure of dining at Nonnas with my wife today. Weve now decided to make it a must to get a pizza when we back in durban. I had the breakfast, and undoubtedly the best Ive had in a long time. The sausages we great. Our waitress, think her name is Chelsea, a bit shy but was very helpful.

It was my first time at Nonnas and it was perfect. Warm Greeting from the hostess who seated us. Our waiter was super friendly and efficient. The meal was perfect. I have been to many Italian restaurants and by far this was the best Alfredo i have tasted. The manager checked on our table and was so humble.We will definitely be back again.

Absolutely disappointed with the food - despite the dishes looking quite appetizing (looks can sure be deceiving). The Al Forno was so overcooked that the cheese became rubber and the cream sauce reduced to oil. R140.00 totally unjustified. The sandwich was a whopping R105.00 for just flavorless beef strips - and not enough meat for the size of the bread. The pesto pasta was undercooked and too hard to chew. My first visit and my last visit all wrapped up in one. The prices are not at all justified. I dont mind paying the price if the food is very nice. The waitress brought us our bill before we had asked for it. When we asked for water, it never came...#hatefeelinglikeiwastedmymoney

I’ve been waiting for the school holidays to be over so that I could head on over to @nonnas_umhlanga_ (Instagram handle) to indulge as the only downside of our Halaal Establishments is the screaming children (I love kids, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t want a child screaming in my ears whilst I’m trying to enjoy my meal 🤨)Last night, literally 15 minutes before they closed, my friend & I decided to venture off to Nonnas to indulge (hoping there wouldn’t be any kids since it was a Saturday night which means, KIDS) & boy were we lucky 🙈This establishment has only recently become Halaal (& that too, SANHA certified for those of you fussy about the certification) which got me waaay too excited. A vibey, non halaal kind of atmosphere (like the Spiga vibe?) BUT HALAAL RESTAURANT SERVING ITALIAN FOOD? Durban Muslims we definitely did some kind of good to see this day 😆💃🏻😂My friend & I ordered the Sienna Pizza (small) & a Napoletana Pasta which I had to try due to the pasta being made fresh in-house daily 😍 The food was SO good that today I had to drag my parents there since my fussy mother LOVES pizza & this pizza is one she had to try.They ordered the Sienna Pizza as well (since apparently it’s the most popular pizza on the menu?) & we also tried out the Imola Pizza. I actually enjoyed the Imola more than the Sienna AND I have to keep on going back to try out all the other pizzas - I’m eyeing the prawn one & the potato one 😍 & yes my fussy mother LOVED the pizza. If you love spicy food, Tabasco sauce is available to add the perfect kick to your food 😋If you haven’t been to Nonnas as yet, GO. It’s worth the hype, seriously. We waited a long time to be seated only to be disappointed by our table being given to people who came in after us.We had already placed our orders in advance so our food had to be reheated.The manager is calm and keeps a smile amidst the bustle.Apart from the seating issues, the restaurant has a nice vibe. The food was average and satisfying, nothing extraordinary, but definitely worth a try.

Absolutely amazing... Im stuffed and amazed at how wonderfully this business has grown, alhumdulillah.The manager was very welcoming and helpful, the waiter Zamo was super polite and professional. The owner checked in on us. Despite being busy, the food came out reasonably quick. Portions are fit for a king. Seriously 2 people to a pasta! Kids loved the pizzas. Fillet steak cooked to a perfect juicy medium with 3 huge helping of sides. The salad complemented the steak quite nicely. All drinks came perfectly timed with the meals. Stunning mocktails and delicious milkshakes.Well done team Nonnas at gateway.

What a disaster. You should consider changing your name from NONNA to NONO. Waitress was pathetic. Steak was worse than rubber. Entire meal was cold. Waited forever for it. Then to my dismay I get offered 10% off and a so called free slice of cheese cake. Fortunately I checked the slip and guess what absolutely disgusting I was charged for the cheeses cake and then the 10% was taken off. Needless to say I refused the 10% and paid in full as I didnt want my stomach to pain. The managers were useless. The owner sympathetic but couldnt handle the situation. You wont see me at Nonos again. What an absolute waste of a Sunday meal.

Tried Nona’s for the first time , ordered a margarita square pizza with extra feta , was great , flavouring was good , owner and staff are friendly .It’s a great addition to their Johanesburg branches that are outstanding , hopefully we get to see more of this great food soon .

Terrible experience, I bought food for r620 and used my card to pay.the next day there were 2 x r620 off my account.called the restaurant and the manager says he will investigate but not their fault and cant give me timeline on when my money will be transfered back into my account. As a customer its a terrible response and still waiting for my money.if u go there check your account not just the sms as it initially reflected r620.

The Gateway Nonnas, was thee worst experience, due to ethnicity!!! We were showed to be seated outside, to wait for an available table, whilst seated my boyfriend saw some activity well, if you belonged to their ethnic you were given a seat straight away. While theres a dont care attitude towards the rest. So my boyfriend approached one of the guys incharge wow, to our surprise theres a table available all of a sudden. It was a cold day, so the guy said he will move us to another table when there is one available. After being seated he avoided us. It was just the basics of Italian foods, nothing extravagant. Overall we tried, their menu and we wont recommend them or ever support a bluntness restaurant!!!Date: 30th August 2020

Base tastes like it was taken out from the freezer. Topping tastes bland. Their prices are above average but their pizzas definitely arent.

Terrible experience. Went here for my dads birthday as we wanted to try some place new. Given the current pandemic, we requested for the seating area to be sanitized and wiped down, both manager amd staff assured that it was but we found sauce droppings and oil around the table. Another issue was that most of the staff were not wearing masks, they were talking over our food and then served it to us barely hot. We asked the waiter to ask the rest of the staff to put on their masks and they did so for 5 minutes and later took it out again. Later on we requested 2 separate dishes to be put into takeaway bags, in front of us, the waiter takes one of the dish and puts it onto the other dish containing the food we asked to take away.Its understandable that its hard to adjust to these new times but restaurants need to take care of their customers as well as our safety is also a priority. The service here was really disappointing mainly due to lack of covid 19 regulations.

Firstly food took extremely long to come and secondly was below average. Pizza base was not up to stratch. Pasta was hard. Not AL dente. Very weak watery sauce.Its a new restaurant and we decided to try it out as it was full and busy. We though it would be a wow experience. Too our dismay it was not. What a waste of money.

Was there yesterday , I love Italian food and this was not Italian, the chicken Alfredo was 3 out of 10.the seafood pasta dish was horrible, you can taste the canned tomatoe sauce . I waited over 45 mins in the cold outside after been told are no tables in the restaurant but watched people been moved inside. Decided to stay in the hope the food was good, was boring, no life in the pasta, menu is limited and mymo is next door? This resturant is for the select few, its disguise as Italian but the meals are NOT. there food is boring guys , its below average and thats my honest opinion not been bias or nasty, it wasnt Italian, please Nonnas be Italian!

Went this weekend and was disappointed. While the staff were attentive and the set up was good, for our experience thats where it ended. The overly priced moktails were lemonade and coloured syrup, with no distinctive taste or fresh fruit. The pizza looked and tasted like a store bought boxed pizza and the chicken sandwich also looked and tasted store bought, dry and the roll greasy. The food was edible but not for the prices charged or expectation set by the menu..

I had to delete my previous review because since then, Ive visited the store that has now been taken over by new management, and since relocated to gateway the food has been simply AMAZING! This was on both occasions. The manager Nazir went out of his way to ensure that we were properly seated and attended to. The wait staff were very attentive and had some really good recommendations. The food was just to die for! Im only disappointed that NONNAs does not show up on uber eats and Mr D for the Durban areas such as Overport etc.. Cant wait to be back and to try out more goodies on your menu

Honestly came in with no expectations. Four of us had 2 pizzas and 2 pastas. I had the pizza (Bologna) and truely, it was super tasty for something so simple. The other pizza eater enjoyed hers, and so did the pasta eaters. They had enough for 2 servings!If youre vegetarian youll love the amount of veg offerings there are - way more than meat options for a change!The only thing I would change is the menu - it could look better.Well definitely be back ;)

Food and atmosphere was excellent, very authentic, took a little long for the food but it was well worth the wait. Only complaint is if youre seated in the main restaurant theres a lot of smoke from the kitchen that escapes into there and so you end up sitting in a foggy/Smoky room while eating. Otherwise solid food and great portion sizes, would definitely go back

Theres a gentleman named SQ man this guy is good he needs a bonus once a month 😁.proper pro and brilliant at what he does I appreciated it. The food was authentic and exactly how I imagined it when I saw the menu. If Italian is what you are looking for in Durban then NONNAs is where you need to be!!! If its Pizza that youre craving try the Sienna Pizza its a must! If its pasta then the Alfredo Al Forno is what you need.

Food was great and prepared fast. I always Guage a pizza place by the quality of their Margherita. And this place served some top quality pizza. Pasta was fantastic as well.

My experience at Nonnas was not that grand, in terms of the food. However , the staff were friendly and I did not have to wait too long for the food. My pasta was not el dantè. I suppose because it was a busy night, the food wasnt too impressive, however I would go there again for the second time and maybe try something different on the menu. The atmosphere is chilled and attracts the young crowd as well as families. The beach is right there for a stroll after dinner perhaps.
