I have read some very good reviews about this place but unfortunately we did not share the same positive experience. Firstly, the tables are so close together it makes it very difficult to get into your seat or leave the table to use the bathrooms without bumping the person sitting at the next table. The whole experience was horribly outdated. The two virgin cocktails we had were sickly sweet. The manager / owner puts you under pressure as to what to order (I know he is being helpful but its not pleasant) The food was presented poorly and the portions were small. My husbands lasagne was dry and tasteless (the bechemel sauce was so claggy we thought at first it was mash potato) My Prawn cocktail starter was very disappointing, it was a few prawns on a side plate of shredded lettuce covered in a Marie rose sauce that tasted like it came out of a bottle, it wasnt creamy and luxurious like you would expect of a Prawn cocktail. The prices are exorbitant!! I took my husband there as it was his birthday but as we left I immediately had buyers remorse - it was a complete waste of money, there is so much more I could have done for my hubby on his special day for that amount of money. Its not worth the 360 views which are not actually that impressive - its just the Harbour, train tracks and Durbans dirty city center. Save your money. It was a horrible experience.

What an amazing Italian experience. The customer service is out of this world in the way that theyre so attentive yet not over the top, I really felt welcomed and at home. The menu was explained to me with so much detail and patience, I really appreciated it... I was intrigued by the decor, I loved how authentic it was, as it wasnt modernized and kept to its original Italian feel.The food was great, the portions were quite impressive and my taste buds were treated to a spicy adventure.Views 10/10. Menu 10/10. Service 10/10

Visited the Revolving Roma after 7 years, to celebrate the birthday of a friend. We were thoroughly satisfied and impressed. The care and attentive attitudes of the host, the large selection of the menu and dessert tray, beautiful ambience and music and the spectacular views of the Durban Harbour and city make this a dining experience second to none. Id definitely advise Revolving Roma for any special occasion. Well done to the team.

You have to do this at least once in your life! Very retro, and worth it every little bit. It feels a little like you’re stuck in the 80s and the food is exquisite. Do not go there if you are on a diet!

I feel the view is better at night..but maybe it would be Interestingto go the for a lunch..the food I ordered was great...especially the sauce on my meat..never tasted one so nice before...will definitely come again

As a borne and bred Durbanite, I can’t believe this was my first visit to the Roma. And let me tell you - it did not disappoint. The views speak for themselves but the food & hospitality were on point. We had a purely veg meal and were more than happy with the range and options. Will be back.

This is a lovely restaurant. The decor is a bit dated and could probably do with a refreshing. Other than that. The food was very tasty. The waiting staff were efficient. The views were awesome as well. And would probably look even better at night. Definitely would recommend.

Unique,first visit was around 1982,at the Roma disco. I have visited this place about three times in past seven years. Great view and dishes.The disco was closed down over the years.Restuarant was built 49 years ago.Early 2022 will be the 50th anniversary.

The place is amazing good looking, I enjoyed Ur chicken pasta but the stake esih It wasnt good Especially for it price we were expecting something very delicious but all other things were good👌

Still amazing after many years. Tony served us. A real Italian guy originally from Rome. The prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is great and the food was awesome. What a pleasure. Note you have to park up the one way before the restaurant. The car guard walks you down. There is also a sneaky sky bar which looks over durban, in the not windy months this would be amazing

This is fine dining for people who are extremely patient and prefers quality over quantity at a cost.The overall atmosphere and views are amazing. You do not feel the turning of the restaurant at all. Staff is friendly. Warm and cozy ambience.Was a great experience.

The vibe and view(s) are spectacular. The service was great initially but declined immensely as the restaurant got busier. We tried to order drinks multiple times but the waiters kept disappearing and never followed up. The food is delicious but the portions are quite small. Overall this wasnt the best experience but the views sort of make up for the bad service.

A fun outing with wonderful food. The views over the harbour and city is magnificent. It takes about an hour to revolve all the way round. So sit back and enjoy the experience. The decor is a bit outdated but overall very good. Hope that the skydeck would be upgraded into something styling and modern. That will be a great tourist attraction because of the spectacular views.

If I could I would rate Roma 10 stars, the way you are treated by employees is magnificent. You are served to the best of their ability everytime. Perfect place for a romantic dinner. The cocktails were outstanding and the dining experience here was entirely unique as the revolving of the restaurant provides a gorgeous 360⁰ view of the Ocean, Harbour and City surrounding it. I cant believe how well I was treated here. This is the best restaurant in the Southern Hemisphere.

Roma ...one of those old classics that you would like to go back to however it is looking old and tired. The view is spectacular. Presentation of the food was as average as the taste at very high prices. Not the excellent Italian food you would expect as from an authentic Italian restaurant. Waiters look a bit harassed and very busy. There are many so you cannot really tell who you are being served by.

Dated decor, but that gives this place it’s charm. Luvly view, great food & serves.Even the owner, Gino, is a great guy. Had to replaced my oysters with seared tuna as their oysters are not fresh. So if you use to fresh oysters avoid them. Overall experience was amazing.

The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. The manager is on the ball and speaks to all guests for a while. He also suggests the best dishes on the menu. The views of Durban CBD and the bay are spectacular. A truly worthy experience for someone looking to impress or have a memorable evening that could set the benchmark for all dining.

Amazing staff and excellent food in a unique location. I have not come across such professional staff who exhibit such pride in where they work in a long time, a lot of long serving staff. The food is traditional and tasty and very reasonably priced. The decor is just the right side of 70s and an experience in itself. It feels like when you where a kid and your parents brought to a special place for special occasions.... OK I was in my shorts and we wanted a bite to eat, not a special occasion but what an experience. Just make that reservation and go, you will not regret it. How we missed this place in previous trips to Durban I do not know, but we will be back

A retro blast from the past. This is real 1970s and 1980s fine-Italian-dining. This should be on every tourists bucket list for Durban. Furthermore, you wont get a better view in the whole of Durban. Forget the stadium...this is where its at. Its like youve been transported by an Italian time machine ...The music and decor - classic. The prices were a bit steep for backpackers like myself but the view is definitely worth it. Its an amazing place to watch the workings of Africas largest harbour.

A genuine landmark in Durban, and a recent visit sure reminded us of good old fashion service. Great food, great atmosphere, great service and amazing views make it must visit for those that are visiting Durban and locals alike. It would be good to see more people visiting this engineering marvel and hopefully with more people, the upkeep would be easier and we get to keep this as part of the Durban landmark. The restaurant with the view! Roma is one of those places you have to try even if only for the view of the Durban skyline. The food is a bit on the pricey side but quality and freshness makes up for this. The service could be better as waiting times can be long and simple things like menus not being brought to the table are some of the issues we have experienced. Overall it is a wonderful venue for functions or an intimate evening. Roma remains on my top 5 list but our last experience has knocked it down a place or 2.

Nice atmosphere, very professional. Food was great. It took a very long time to get the orange juice i.e over 10 minutes. When we were about to ask for a bill, orange juice was served. The desert trolley had all the sweet stuff and the waiter was friendly and generous with the portions

Honestly what a disappointment, firstly the views are stunning and the food was good. The service was some of the worst I have experienced. We booked a table for 6:30, and waited 2 hours for our food. The waitress did not know what the food was or what was available, we struggled to get drinks or any kind of service. She was unable to tell us what was available for children, there was also no kids menu.. We only recieved our food at 9pm, by this time we were so tired and hungry, the waitress then offered my daughter a free ice cream, only to come back and say there is none, to which another Italian guy then went and got the ice cream (so they did have) and gave it to her in a polistyrene take away with no spoon. I mean, come on. Its an expensive restaurant, and you expect some service, we sat and waited for hours.

I have always heard about this restaurant but it sounded a bit overrated until I went out to a family supper and wow we were so impressed with their meals. Very very impressive.

We had amazing fillet served gueridon style. Fantastic. The views are amazing. Only issue was the waiting time for a table. Despite having a reservation we still had to wait more than an hour for a table. If it wasn’t for that it could have been 5 stars.

Absolutely pathetic service and no sense of planning whatsoever. I had made a reservation for 7pm which was confirmed via telephone earlier in the day, however upon arrival we were asked to wait for the second seating and our table number was removed by tipex in the reservation book. We waited for 40 minutes without any assistance. I had called for the manager who didnt arrive until some time later and basically asked us to wait longer. It was a very disappointing experience as it ruined our dinner plans and no restaurant were opened by the time we left.

Step into a world away from the every day dining experience. The decor, music, ambience and staff transport one to an old world charm dining experience. Best experienced in the evening. The sky bar upstairs is more trendy. Used primarily for smoking. The menu is a bit outdated, however it works in line with the personality of the venue. Priced higher than other restaurants. However you are paying for the experience rather than the food. Sampled 6 dishes including starters, main and desserts. Only the crayfish bisque was WOW. The others were OK. 6/10 . Service was practically non existent. Our waiter kept scooting past us and we had to keep asking other severs to assist.

Its amazing. I went there for the first time 2 weeks ago. Did my proposal there. All the waiters and chefs are wonderful and very friendly. First time experience was very good for my Fiancée and i. We have discussed we will definitely do it again. Food is Devine as it can be .

We celebrated Tony and Elaines 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Roma and it was my first visit and I would HIGHLY recommend this venue to anyone. The history and people behind the Roma make this place an absolute gem to visit. There is safe parking and you feel like you are getting a different view of the beautiful city of Durban. The food is sensational and we loved every part of the evening. Big shout out to the whole Roma team for being such wonderful people and still keeping this landmark flying for so many years. Who knows, maybe I can have my 50th wedding anniversary there too.

In theory, this is a great place to dine but the customer service is trash. I had gone here on Mothers Day with my friends - it took forever to get a waitron - meanwhile it wasnt even that packed. We ordered starters and drinks and they brought the starter and forgot the drinks. The old white man went on to say that we couldnt get drinks without ordering a full course meal - absolutely ridiculous. We kept placing orders and they did not deliver. I ordered water at least and they forgot. Honestly - the only thing they have going for them is the rotation. Portion sizes are tiny and service is trash. I wouldnt go there again and thats a lot coming from someone who always dreamed of eating there.

My husband and I loved it. The manager was really nice and hands on. I didn’t really mind it. The food was great right down to the bread sticks. There’s a lot of opportunity to explore food that is out of the norm. The view was magnificent.

Great 369 deg view of Durban situated right on the harbour with spectacular evening lights. Decent portions. Seafood pasta was great. The owner told me that he uses tasty cayenne pepper for some dishes. Great for spicy lovers. The views are spectacular. One of the best in the world. Of course the best time to appreciate it is have a sit down about 45 minutes before sunset. The owner/manager/Italian is a real gentleman.

Stunning views, great service, food was okay. The upstairs bar was closed and looked pretty run down, but they still let people go up for the views. Overall we enjoyed the experience but once was probably enough. Nice for an occasion or something different.

My first experience at Roma was a pleasant one. As a vegan, I literally had 3 options presented to me, a salad, chips and napolitana sauce pasta. I opted for the salad and pasta.We had arrived with a party of 10, our food got out around 15 minutes which I thought was pretty quick... Maybe a little too quick but then the menu wasnt too complicated to cook up.Everyone gobbled down their dishes with great gusto, including myself, I was hungry. My vegan salad and pasta were okay... I could have made it at home in a couple minutes and Im not a great cook.Some dishes do offer some flare such as the châteaubriand which was prepared tableside and the dessert cart which is rolled alongside the table for you to choose whatever is tickling your fancy.The decor is outdated and the lighting was spotty at times. It would get pretty dark at some spots as the floor is revolving.The only reason this restaurant is still around after some 40 odd years is the view. The good lord had blessed these Italians in 1973 and given them one of the best locations in Durban. Its situated on the 32nd floor of John Ross House which offers sweeping views of the city and harbour. Youd sooner forget what youre eating when you look out the huge glass windows. The city is beautiful and this restaurant allows you to take it all in at one sitting.All-in-all, service was good. I wouldnt be rushing back an time soon but its an experience every Durbanite should have.

The most wonderful experience one can afford.First time that i had the perfect steak (no lies, the steak would melt in your palette without any hard chewing and best of all it leaves nothing in between your teeth).Their popular lasagna is completely out of this world.Not to mention the waitress that comes around after your meal and offers lovely Italian desserts which are all nice, such as tiramisu, fresh strawberries and cream, lovely chocolate and red velvet cakes and puddings, it was heaven.Never have i been able to say that i enjoyed a proper meal at a restaurant, but the Roma Revolving Restaurant did it!The whole family and i were absolutely amused, we all had great meals.Definitely a 5 star.☆☆☆☆☆The owner of the restaurant also keeps a watchful eye on his employees which is another reason why the food is tip top.Grazie tante!Bellissima!AndBuon appetito if you decide to go there😏

My Hubby surprised me for my Birthday at Roma Revolving. Absolutely amazing experience. The food was exquisite, 10 stars for above excellent customer service. Gordon and Brandon gave such exceptional friendly customer service.The view was incredible.The owner was always checking and ensuring that everything was perfect. They made us feel at home. My family and I will definitely be going back soon.

Roma is an entire dream!! Had dinner once on the 23rd of December 2019 during a holiday in Durban, but the memories and ambience of the place have stuck with me like an after taste that you cannot dismiss that easily! I remember my deep dive search on the internet for a beautiful place for dinner for two and Roma popped up! At first I was so excited at the prospect of finding a place not only overlooking the sea but also a revolving one! When we finally arrived at Roma the experience was like unveiling a couple of presents under the mistletoe, from the mystery lift to just stepping into the lush comfort of this beautiful restaurant to the stellar service! Everytime I relive the experience I over emphasize the fact that there is actually a revolving restaurant in the Southern Part of Africa!! 😂 This place is ideal for a romantic date, dinner with friends or family and the food is only the icing on the cake, because this is not just an eatery its a whole experience!! I would recommend this place even in my sleep. Next time I am in Durban Roma it shall be!!
