This is such a beautiful hidden gem in Tinley Manor. You do have a slight view of the ocean. After having a lovely meal, take in the scenery by walking down to the beach, its less than a 5 minute walk but worth the view. The restaurant is so cozy and lovely, the waiters are absolutely friendly and extremely helpful...especially Freedom, hes an absolute Rock star. He made us feel absolutely comfortable, he made amazing suggestions and we really enjoyed the dishes.I ordered a passion fruit & lemonade, to my pleasant surprise, I was served with what I requested but with a tot of grenadine added to it...pls see pic attached. It was fantastic, visually appealing and really refreshing. We opted to try something different hence we ordered the soya prawn cocktail and the red velvet and charcoal prawn(a battered prawn dish) both starters were amazingly delicious. For our mains, we ordered the chicken & prawn curry and the paneer chutney which is served with a side salad, rice & papadums, we also ordered the roti.It was so tasty, the paneer was perfect and melted in your mouth, it was super soft and fresh. The chicken and prawn curry...the meat was so soft and tender, brilliantly done!We had to pack takeaways of our mains just to try out their desserts, Im so glad we did.Soji was so delicious, soft...smooth...hot...perfectly sweetened!I must also mention the music, it was old school sing a long songs with a slow tempo...it was so calming and immediately put you into a happy mood.Thank you guys for making our afternoon an absolutely wonderful one.We truly appreciate your hospitality.
Went there on the reviews. Its quite a niche little place. Staff is really friendly and the food was great. Would reccomend it to anyone thinking about going there. 🙂
Lovely ambiance and great food!
Excellent service and very delicious foodLove the setting
Food was good. Seevice even better. Freedom is one of the best waiters ever
First time at the restaurant and sadly we had terrible service as there was only one waiter serving the entire restaurant. He tried his best but the food was very average and the worst experience was when management approached us and asked us to leave at 9:15pm when our food only got to us just before 9pm! He told us they were closing without even giving us a warning - even 5 minutes warning would have sufficed as we needed to call our Uber. When I said he should have atleast told us when we arrived at 8pm that we had to be gone by 9:15pm he proceeded to tell us that we should have watched the President’s speech. Never mind that the restaurant website itself says it closes at 10pm! The restaurant is a little far out and the uber took 20 minutes and we were left stranded in the dark with the kids . Disappointing experience. Not coming back …
Absolutely delicious curries. The cheese and jalapeño pockets were fantastic
Service was adequate, have to wait a while for the food
This restaurant is a lovely ocean view restaurant with friendly waiters who offer great service. The food is rather hot and those who do not have a high threshold for spicy or chilli food should steer clear of the bunny chows as they are quite hot (even the mild). Otherwise the Chai tea was lovely and the menu range is quite wide.
Best place by far everything on the menu is amazing! Everytime we are there we make it a point to stop there. Friendly and helpful no matter what. Keep up the amazing work😁👍👍
Had a really good lunch. Curries were really good and some awesome views from the balcony. Really enjoyed our meal
This restaurant was my favorite curry house on the North Coast but a recent visit showed that the quality of food and service has plummeted. The signs stated that the minimum food preparation time was 45 minutes, however our food arrived 75 minutes later. We were the only ones in the main restaurant whilst there were a few tables outside. The signature dish of prawn curry was bland with the tomato gravy having a metallic taste. The butter chicken and prawn had a boiled taste to it which was contained in a watery sauce. We drove up specifically for the great food but was left sadly disappointed. Would not recommend.Edit : visited on 22.12.2020
I expected a little bit more. The place was clean, they followed all covid protocol. The food was ok. My daughter enjoyed the chicken strips.
Food took about 20mins to be served. Still has to be the best prawn curry though. Good service!
Great food
Food is amazingWe decided to drive the extra ks to try them out as recommended by many.It was well worth it.The prawn curry is the most delicious dish ever. Not too spicy and is full of flavors. We chicken and prawn is another hit with a bit of a kick in it.Definitely will be back again.
Manageress is SO unprofessionalWaited almost 2 hours for the food, only to be “challenged” by the “manageress” and greeted out with her back facing towards us with not one word as we walked out. Highly unprofessional. 1x waiter. SO dissatisfied. Won’t recommend at all. Complaints left right and center from each table about her and the service. Useless
The food was good. Service was acceptable.
Best bunny chow on the North Coast
Impulse by the Sea a short drive from Ballito located in Tinley Manor, offers typical North Indian cuisine. Whether you like it mild or raging, Impulse by the Sea caters to all taste buds. The restaurant is spacious with friendly efficient staff serving its patrons. Definitely worth trying out if youre a curry lover.
Authentic, delicious curries, best soji and the service was good. If youre in the north coast, its a must!
Impulse by the Sea is a great Durban Indian Cuisine restaurant. The ambience is warm, friendly and relaxed. The staff are great and they have Springfield Wholeberry which is my favourite. But best if all there food is something special. I rate it the best I have tasted. The views are great too.
Bad all round. Waiters couldnt care less. Simple orders take up to two hours in an empty restaurant. Unsafe parking. Pricey for very poor quality. Doesnt do Indian food a lot of praise. Avoid.
I visited Impulse by the sea for the first time yesterday for lunch, after numerous recommendations. The food was delicious and the service courteous. We totally enjoyed the meal. The prawn curry and the lamb bunny, a mustWill surely return
Love it! Flavors on point! Curries are so tasty and full of flavor. Friendly staff and great place! Prawn curry highly recommended!!
Food wasnt great. .
Informal family-type Indian restaurant with delicious food. Good service. The prawn curry is deservedly famous. If you go on a weekend night go fairly early. Later young people may decide to dance and then the music is intolerably loud. Otherwise pleasant background music. Nevertheless will eat here whenever I am in the area.
Wow! What an experience of South African Indian food, that’s how it’s done, South African Indian cooking at its best, would drive from jhb all over again for that food. Well done! to the cooks and amazing staff to complete the experience
A curry experience to remember. Since discovering this restaurant about 6 years ago, I have been a regular visitor and never been disappointed. From the Cheesy Garlic rolls, the Samosas, Chicken and Prawn curry all the way to the Ice Cream and Hot Chocolate sauce it is a taste bud party!Nice view of the sea if you wish to sit on the deck. Also a good venue to have that year end work party.
Wow. Worth every penny and they certainly have earned every star. A great history and part of the country.
Good
Quiet little town. Nice setting with beautiful sea views. Seems to be a hit with the locals as the place was busy at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. The table cloth was a bit grubby. Service was friendly with a smile. The potato samosas were delicious, served with a really nice sauce. My Vegetable kadai curry was a bit too spicy for me but I enjoyed it. Decent authentic food in a great location.
Nice place to eat local indian specialties.Nice veg curry and paneer. Lovely atmosphere, great service and reasonably priced.
Simply the best crab-curry you will EVER enjoy!!Recommended to call ahead of time to see which menu items are in stock. Some items were not available in stock. We were dining on a Friday early evening and the restaurant was almost empty with the exception of one other table so stock shortages were not expected.
Very good butter chicken but limited menu. Surprising for an Indian restaurant to be out of stock of something as mainstay as dahl.
I don’t how it ended up in Durban curry up 2 date!!!We drove all the way to T manor to try their curries, but it was such a disappointment. The curries tasted absolutely nothing, everything was too oily. And we couldn’t even finish it. The food was too pricey for what you got.
Service is absolutely terrible. After 20 mins or so we still hadnt placed our order as we we were left unattended. Prices are also way too high. For example... Bunny Chows sell here for R120. Just 15 mins north of Tinley Manor you can get great Bunny Chows for around R60. Really wouldnt recommend this place.
Nice location, decent curry. Not the widest selection and desserts were not amazing. The waiter that served was very pleasant.
Excellent crab curry, I had the prawn curry which was also excellent. Lovely staff and a good view from the upstairs deck over the ocean.Well be back
Excellent prawn curry
Worst restaurant I have ever been too.Food took 25 minutes too come out after we were told that it would take 10 ~ 12 minutesThere was less that 1 chicken breast in the take away Butter chicken. Only sauceIndian restaurant serving normal tastic rice??It was our first and most definitely our last. Never again and would not recommend it at all
Waited 45min for a mutton bunny chow, served in bunny pot bread which was extremely hard and tasted like mutton cooked in bitter tomatoes. Best part was it costs R120. Not worth it!
In 40 years of dining i have never tasted a better prawn curry. This has to be the best kept secret in SA. Beautiful views. Superb food.
Worst Prawn curry ever - it was black and tasted like burnt tomatoes. No-one even came to apologize. Never again
Amazing food but slow service
Despite my begging, pleading and grovelling the Owners would not share the recipes for their prawn curry.Probably one of the Best ..... let me correct that THE BEST Indian Food Ive had, and believe me I love spicy food.Hangout with the locals ( Locals know best). Youre welcome....
Food was really good, 2nd time weve eaten here and will definitely be back. Had the prawn and crab currys, butter chicken and veg or mutton bunnys... All delicious 😋
Friendly staff and good food. Excellent
Great service, good food. Highly recommended!
The paneer was fresh like my mom made it this morning none of that rubbery shop bought stuff. The broad beans curry was a hit spicy yet rich.
Always a stunning atmosphere and friendly staff! I love the potato samosas and my husband and father loves your prawn curry!
Bad Bad service & equally Bad Bad food. Overrated
The best prawn and crab curries around! And they can cater specifically to your tastebuds - mild is mild (if thats what you prefer)! I love that they also offer dishes for people who are not fans of Indian foods (steaks etc.). They have a great bar selection too!The service is friendly and well keep going back for more!
Best service & food
Fantastic food, never disappoints. The service was tremendous
Food is overpriced and not as advertised on CNN
UNIMPRESSIVE CURRIESThe venue is tired, in dire need for renovation. Not worthwhile a trip to T Manor
Prawn curry. Pan fry prawns.... the best . Atmosphere have to be here to experience it
Fantastic Indian cuisine! Highly recommend the bunny chow
Fantastic meals for everyone, just slow service today.
Great service. Excellent food. Thank you.
This was my first time there & I loved it the service was excellent & the food was so Delicious & there Curry is the Best in South Africa.
The food from this restaurant is very very tasty... clean restaurant and affordable prices... I love this restaurant 😋
Best place in KZN to have a curry. Must try the prawn curry. Service and vibe always great
Beautiful surroundings awesome atmosphere and very taste food
Had the prawn and lamb curry. Both were amazing but the prawn curry was the best curry I have ever had.
The prawn curry was so delicious.
Very nice. Good authentic curry!
Great food and fantastic choice. Loved the view.
Great food, good atmosphere and brilliant service. And a well stocked bar
Great food and portions. Medium is still a bit on the hot side though. But great flavours
Had the most awesome bunny chow. Would recommend any day 👌🏾
Warm service and a unique experience of cuisine that is versatile in its offering to the discerning palette.
Great food and drinks. Great hospitality too
An explosion of flavours! Loved the prawn curry. Worth the drive to Tinley Manor. Childhood memories😚
Its being a family house to us for 24 years and going strong best sea food my favourite home
Pricey, but good service. Not the best curry Ive tasted. The staircase going up to the restaurant is smelly but the restaurant itself Is fine. Toilets are clean. Parking is available and sit down or take away available.
This is the kind of place that you find out about through word mouth, and for a good reason. Highly recommend.
Best curry Ive ever had! Would definitely recommend it!
Magnificent prawn curry! Seriously, a must-have. Bunny chow & butter chicken also excellent
The lamb curry was really excellent. I didnt get a table outside with a view of the sea, I think that would have made 5 stars....
Relaxed Mature Adults Social Scene
Lovely surprise on the north coast, delicious curry and very reasonably priced. Will definitely recommend.
