Probably the best lamb shank we ever had. Cozy atmosphere, cold drinks and lick-your-plate-clean type of food!!
Wow, great ambience, service and food. Traditional South African food prepared with passion. Please open Die Plattelander in Cape Town. We love this quaint restaurant as part of our halfway stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg. #Bestlambshankever!!
Very good boerekos!Lamb shank and bobotie is a winner! Even the veggies are good 😉I can only recommend more indoor plants to help create a nice atmosphere. 🪴
We really enjoyed stopping in. I had a delish lamb curry and my boyfriend had lamb chops that were cooked to perfection. He also tried the skilpadjies and really enjoyed them while I enjoyed the pap and sauce that accompanied it. The waitress was lovely and it was a great experience, would recommend 👌
Best value money oversleep. Clean and all you can get, human and pet FRIENDLY. Thank you, see you on the way back
Fast friendly affordable.Amazing food.
Good food and ambience. Fire going. Good service. Reasonably priced.
Firstly must admit that I am friends with the owners from my school days - so I may sound biased.Located close to the central part of town (across the road from the historical church landmark in Colesberg) this quaint restaurant is a definite place to stop to have a meal prepared in traditional Karoo style.Lamb shanks, lamb curry are definitely to be tried, and if you are looking for more traditional meal they offer yummy hamburger and chips or chicken strips and chips for the young ones.Prices are reasonable for the region, and they have an assortment of gifts to take home.Check on operating hours to avoid disappointment (currently 17h00 to 19h00 during lockdown).
Absolutely amazing! Portion sizes are perfect, food is so tasty! Best chocolate mousse I have had in years. Staff are super friendly and happy vibes all round. A must stop if youre travelling through Colesburg.
I had the lamb shank which was tender but nothing extraordinarily. I got the idea my food was heated to long in the microwave. My wife had the tribe which was overpriced for what you get .Bones and more bones and little meat served with samp and a few potatoes and bread. What about veggies or salad. The taste was blunt .We had twice tribe in the cape wine lands on our monthly tour and it was cheaper and better tasting. The dinning room was 32 degrees with an air-con not working .I mentioned it to the owner / manageress and than we got ignored. When we left they started to open the doors.
One of the best places I have eaten in a long time the food is fresh and delicious. The place has ń warm feel to it I would recommend to all the people I know!
When in this area of the world, one has to have some lamb. So we set out to find a place in Colesberg where we can do just that. And I must say, Die Plattelander did not disappoint. We ordered the Lamb Shank and Lamb Chops. Wow! The Lamb Chops were flavorful and succulent. You could actually taste the herbie diet that they live on in this area. The Lamb Shank was covered in a brown sauce and basically fell of the bone. Full of flavour, soft and delicious. I also loved the pumpkin fritters that came with the shank. This was washed down with one of the local craft beers. Absolutely worthwhile.
Great service and wonderful atmosphere and music. Yet, sadly, the taste of the famous lamb is masked by sugary coating. Once you have attempted to remove the sauce, you are left with unsalted and tough meat.
Lovely atmosphere. Food was excellent!
Awesome service and the best lamb platter ever! Try the skaapstertjies starter 😊
Absolutely amazing little place. Food was amazing, staff friendly and manager very hands on. Would pay triple the price for same quality of service and food in main cities. Well worth the visit!
We had such a wonderful meal at this restaurant. The service was amazing, the food even better! The kids were served with meals within 15 minutes of ordering. The staff is friendly and although the restaurant was busy, made us feel like their only clients.
O wow! Blown away by the food. Absolutely delicious. Beautiful, rustic setting. Very unique menu. Burgers to die for and the steak was divine 👌😀
Honest local food with all the favourites - beans and pumpkin fritters!
Yummy burger and super service.. prices reasonable.. felt very nostalgic eating monkey gland sauce again... a must try..
Good service, but the food was canteen level. I had a lamb shank for R170. Everything on the plate was pre-cooked and heated( at least that is what it tasted like) The sauce that covered everything was a tasteless Bisto mix.
Delicious food, great service and friendly staff. Will definitely visit again. We had burgers & chips, chicken salad and lamb chops.
Best Pumpkin Fritters I have tasted i a long while. Steak prepared to perfection and really warm atmosphere. Love this place. Food takes you back to Grammys home cooking. Brilliant guys keep it up. 👍🔥
Very expensiveFriendly waiter
Great food, great vibe, friendly staff, overall great experience.
Good food and service
Friendly service and good food. They let us in before thet open. Appreciate it..
I love it here, the stuff is friendly and will always want you to have the best experience. Their dessert is a must have
Wonderful meal, very efficient, friendly, professional service. Loved it, definitely the place to eat if you are ever in Colesburg. Thank you guys. ❤️
Cute setting, delicious food, great portions and very friendly staff. We were also accommodated and allowed to bring our little yorkie in with us.Would HIGHLY recommend their bobotie..
Highly recommended! Friendly and helpful staff! Will visit again.
The food and service was good as always. We will recommend Die Plattelander afain and again
Small little restaurant with excellent food and service. Definitely to be visited if you visit Colesberg
Food is very grate. Hospitality is op point from the moment u walk in the front doors
Quick and friendly service. Good value for money food!
Great platteland home made kos shop. Will definitely stop there again !
Absolutely fabulous place, good food and atmosphere. Live it
Very friendly staff supper amazing food... A bit pricey but 100% worth it for the tast
Great meal as always. Thank you Lucille
Good service and an authentic atmosphere with wholesome meals.
Having to leave after a good karoo meal. 🤔😀😂
The lamb chops and the chips where EXCELLENT! Boboti OK, the yellow raisin rice was unrecognizable and still frozen with a few raisins thrown on top...??? Service from the waitress was WONDERFUL and Friendly! But........ the owner-guy or manager-guy.... absolutely absolutely SHOCKING! unfriendly.... he had a problem with his card machine that obviously irritated and freaked him out.... we offered and had to drive to draw the cash at ABSA and when I went back to pay him, he didnt even say thank you.. or im sorry for the inconvenience.... NOTHING!!! 🙈 and it wasnt cheap..
A highly popular restaurant in the main street of a rural Karoo town. The food is prepared with lots of love and attention to maintain the rural tradition that most visitors from far off cities would appreciate. Prices are very reasonable and there is an intimate atmosphere.
Super atmosphere very friendly service
Our experience of this restaurant was not favourable The two thinly sliced Tbone steaks were defintely not done on an charcoal fire and was below average at a price equal to 5 star restaurants plus a far above the average cork fee The general impression that we had was limited if any interest from the owner who presumably was the person to collect the money . The focus of restaurants in current times should be emphasis on good quality food at affordable prices to ensure better and consistant turnover .
December 2019. Very nice and quiet. Air cons not effectivel enough. Service was very good. Food very delicious. Management very involved in the operation. Not sure if it is a good thing.
Affordable, quality meals.
Lovely food and good service.
Good Food and Service.. Recommended the lamb shank... Reasonably priced. Cozy decor
Very good meal ... served very quickly. Staff excellent. Owner helps on the floor (it shows)
Best restaurant in the world. For sure*****
Good selection. Good food
The quality of food was quite good and the service as well I find them a bit overpriced as the quality isnt excellent.
Cosy atmosphere. Quick and friendly service. Food prepared to our desire and well priced. Will visit again
Very good food. A nice place to have a lunch on the way down.Had the vegetarian lasagne, which I rate highly! The lamb was thoroughly enjoyed by one of my friends.
This place never disappoints. Friendly staff and service. Excellent Boerekos. We started going there in 2007 and weve never had a bad meal. It has become a permanent stop on our way to Cape Town. They even serve some local craft beers. They are decently priced and you never feel that you were ripped off. Definitely value for money. Love this place...see you next time.
My new favourite place to stop and enjoy a perfect breakfast. Always fly through Colesberg! Well, now I have a new reason for stopping. Pleasant and polite staff. Good variety. Delicious food. Best cappuccino. Really a pleasant and unexpected surprise! Highly recommend Die Platterlander! Enjoy. Relax. Rejuvenate.
Great staff. Ladies very friendly and skilled to serve you a good dinner experience. Rest is taste. My shank was awesome.
I can FULLY understand why this place has such good ratings. A very homely feel to it and delicious food. Fast friendly service, perfectly cooked meat. The other waiters sometimes stand there waiting and looks quite awkward at you which is a bit weird.. Other that that, this is a must visit.
Best restaurant in town. Warm, homely ambience. Humble yet varied menu and adequate, though not connoisseur, wine selection. The lamb shank is among the best Ive ever sampled and the salads are crisp and fresh. Really good value for money and the best choice for dinner.
Had a smashing meal, with great atmosphere and awesome music. The food was prime and apparently the Gins were too. Try the scrambled lamb.
I am not convinced that the fillet was indeed fillet as it had a lot of sinews. Unfortunately I couldnt have the Lambshank or the lamb curry, as they add sugar (!?) to the sauce. Waitress was lovely, food came quickly.
Lovely restuarant to visit when in Colesberg. Friendly / capable staff and a lot of options on the menu and quick service. Famous for lamb dishes.
Lovely quaint spot. Very friendly staff. Lamb shank was a little tough on outside but tasty. Lamb curry was awesome. Pumpkin fritters were the best. Would visit again.
The Best Restaurant we have ever visited and enjoyed the most delicious Lamb Curry and Rice with a decadent desert of chocolate Brownies. Great atmosphere, safe parking with parking attendant and fantastic service. When we are in the area again, will definitely visit and try the other professional chefs delights.
Ice cold drinks in 40 degree heat
Quick and friendly staff. Food was delicious. !
Nice restaurant for a stop over. Maybe some more light meals on the menu.
Had a family dinner. Service was super fast, atmosphere was very relaxed. Food was fab, we had lamb curry, fillet steak and chicken salad - three very pleased customers.
The best meat I ever tasted in my life! True Karoo cuisine in the heart of Colesberg. Wow!!!!!! Friendly waiters. Great ambience! The food made me feel right at home . Highly recommended!
Very friendly staff, peaceful atmosphere, and delicious food! A must try for all.
Good food, excellent setting, good service. A bit expensive.
We had such a pleasant experience. The staff was friendly, the service fast and the food was exceptional! Thank you! You will see us again :)
Lovely restaurant. Waiters and owners are very friendly. The lamb curry and burgers were delicious. Coffee is amazing. Skilpadjies were very tasty. Had a good experience.
Food and service the best.Real Karoo lamb and well prepared
Service is very very slow for the food, however it was well worth the wait, as the food was amazing!! If you are hungry right now, give it a skip till you have the time to sit and wait for your lunch!
The Karoo lamb is to die for!
Really good stop over for a meal. Owner is on the floor, staff are efficient and very well trained. Food was tasty and came out really quickly too (in rush season with all the tables occupied)Had the Lasagne and my wife the Bobotie. Hers came with ‘boere’ green beans (delicious), and fluffy pumpkin fritters, yellow rice and chutney. Mine was light and tasty and with a side salad. Will visit again, thumbs up to the owners.
Great service from Lucille, good food, steak cooked really well and a tasty lamb shank. Shall return when we pass through Colesberg again
Really fantastic experience, from the moment we walked in to the moment we left all the staff was incredibly friendly. The atmosphere is also something very special with some classical music playing in the background and dim lights. My partner had the lamb shank and says it is the best he has ever had and I had the bobotie which was made to perfection. I wouldnt drive the N1 Route without stopping here.
Nice settings and we enjoyed the supper. Service was good
Stunning lamb shank. No argument..one of the best restaurants we have been to. Service out of this world. If you have to stay over in the Karoo stay over at one of the overnight places but make sure you eat at the Platelander
Awesome dinner place for a halfway stop, friendly staff & fresh food. 👌
