Ou Meul sticky cinnamon buns never disappoint!I ordered one of their famous-for-a-reason pies (spinach and feta - R35), the sticky cinnamon buns coated in dark caramel sauce (R32), and tried one of their chocolate brownies (R28). I’d definitely recommend the buns and pies, and if simple, block brownies are your thing: they’re good too. This Ou Meul is right off the main road, has indoor and outdoor seating, a farm stall of jams and chutneys for sale, a playground for children, is pet friendly, and serves a great cup of Bootlegger Coffee. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, and efficient. If you’re unsure about what to try, ask! They’ve recommended some of my favourite treats from the bakery. 💯
What a disappointment. We usually lunch here when we visit the Western Cape. The place looks very smart and elegant after renovation but food and prices not the same. Burger patty very tasty, chips very soggy and fried in same oil that they fry their fish in. Elite sandwich serve on plate with no garnish to go with it. See picture. I appreciate that the place is pet friendly but is it advisable if it scares the guests and their children. Big white dog ran through the place freely not on a leash even climb on the tables. Forgive me next time not stopping at die Ou Windmeul.
We got there very early as we were on our way to The West Coast National Park to view the flowers but they were ready for us. The breads and croissants, carb heaven. Mom and hubby ordered the oats and I had the bacon and egg croissant. We all enjoyed our meals. They also sell hand wash and lotions amongst other things. I have visited a few Ou Meul restaurants and they all have the highest standards of cleanliness, good food, good service. I would recommend them any time. The photos are of the one on Old Paarl Road.
One of the best bakkeries I have been too. The best friendliest staff. Absolute fantastic pies, tarts and bread. Do not leave without buying icecream.
The setting is nice, but the almond croissant I had, was drenched with oil. Not butter, oil! The worst I ever had!My friend was playing spot the chicken with her chicken salad! The waiter was friendly at least.Wont be back.
The service compliments the food. The waitrons invest in you as a client and treat you as part of there family. They serve an array of pastries both sweet and savory. My recommendation would be the almond croissant for a sweet treat and any one of the savoury pies. The coffee is supplied by the Bootlegger company and is of a very good quality.
Breakfast at Ou Meul is always great. This time Melkbosstrand was the choice. The Old Mill was chosen, all items were made to perfection. From bacon, mushrooms tomatoes, eggs and sourdough to the extra boerewors. Servers were polite and helpful. See you next time.
Clearly recently revamped, charming artisinal coffee shop and bakery. Lovely decor, inside and outside dining, breakfast and lunch. Nice, well varied menu, with sharp service and reasonable pricing.Dont forget the take away, home made, pies, breads and confectionery. Certainly an addition to the must call again roster.
Cappuccino was delicious! Great bench-style dining outdoors also available. Nice selection of breakfast and brunch meals with delicious tarts and pastry desserts. Excellent service from our waiter, Jarred.
We visited last week for coffee and a snack and bought some pies to take home....... Our waitress was lovely.... Well done!! That said, the food was not great and my husband was very sick by the time we got home !! The pies were not up to the usual standard either !! The Pastry was very thick and dry. And the filling was meagre and also dry!! Such a shame....I was so looking forward to our visit
Delicious food and very friendly service at a convenient address. Beautiful lawn and dogs are welcome. Extremely expensive and very busy.
Not as good as it is normally. Service slow tables not cleared away and already vacated by people
Nice place for breakfast or to grab some coffee while the kids run outside and play on the swings. Bit overpriced.
Nice friendly clean, will definitely visit again
Our breakfast stop on the way to Langebaan. Nice touch is the free dog treats for our fur babies. A good coffee, good menu and friendly staff. The perfect stop.
Food looked and tasted amazingly good. Service was fast and friendly. Really glad I stopped there! Certainly will again in the future.
Fantastic place nice food and fantastic staff.
Great breakfast venue. Our host in Melkbosstrand recommended it and it didn’t disappoint. It has a farm like look outside and part passtal (farm stall) feel as you walk in with goodies for sale. Good menu choices with well presented tasty food and good service. Our host loves tea. We loved the teapot!. They serve and sell Bootleggers coffee.
Very good service from the staff.Very helpful and friendly.Enjoyed the outdoor eating area.My bobotie pie 🥧 was yummy.
So we decided to try this place again after a few years and we are so happy we did..Food was phenomenal and service outstandingGot to try the fish cakes guys
Lovely restaurant. Had the Falafel bowl and my sister had the lentil and chickpea burger. Super delicious.
Best Pies in the world. I think my husband will eat that Lamb pie every day if I allow it.Great coffee and friendly staff. Try the Babylonstoren naartjie juice, its amazing!
Was a great visit. Thank you everyone. Everything was just perfect.
Lovely setting, food and service both very good. Never been disappointed in all the times the wife and I have been there and thats a lot of occassions.
Lovely spot for the kiddies with the lawn and jungle gym, pity about the service though.
Look everyone. They have HP SAUCE.. And delicious breakfasts.
Best ou muel in Cape Town. dog friendly. manager seems nice. one staff member called Jerome also seems quite nice. would probably go back if they had more stock of socks
A must stop when going to Cape Town. Amazing pies! Nice treats all round and great service.
Very pleasant and good vegetarian options. Clearly very popular and well supported with seemingly regulars who also pop in for bakery and lunch take aways.
Just what good friends need; a wonderful cup of coffee and in the atmosphere of friendly and helpful staff
Excellent. Great play area for the kids. Large grass area to run. Swings, a slide and a wooden climbing thing. Also dog friendly. They even brought a water bowl. Food was fantastic. Lots of outdoor seating. But, arrive early if you want seating out of the wind. Friendly and efficient staff also.
Food is amazing not to talk about the staff super friendly
Good coffee, breakfast good, pastries very good. Difficult place just to drive past, must stop there.
What a beautiful place!! And the food...to die for 🥳
Best ou meul there is. Fantastic management and rad views of the mountain.
Cant handle a busy day. 3 of the 4 meals were disappointing. Overpriced. Had to ask for sugar after coffee arrived. Had to ask for salt and pepper after food arrived. Things that you usually find on the table.
Lovely venue, good service and breakfast was awesome.
Good food, milk shakes are great and very good service.
Carrot cake cravings will drive me to this place! Just off a busy national road, but such a beautiful setting, you gotta stop over.
I got some really nice pies and sourdough bread here. Will be back
I was really happy when this Ou Meul opened, Ive been to many of their outlets and they never disappoint. The place is really busy so be sure to either book or get there early (if youre going for breakfast). The service is fast and friendly. They serve Bootlegger coffee which is my favourite. The food is great and they have some nice different menu items. If you havent had their pies you have to grab one while youre here, the bootie pie is a winner!
Wonderful farmhouse goodies. A great restaurant well priced. Option to sit inside or outside. Well worth the trip for delicious food or country pies, cookies, bread etc.
Excellent service and fantastic food in a very beautiful and peaceful setting.
Lovely sunny day in Cape Town. The beef burger was a dissapointment. Burger patty was paper thin, overcooked and dry. Not good value for R115 at all.
Best pies i had in a long time.
Beautiful place, with very friendly staff
Food was disappointing. Service was extremely slow... waited 15 min for drinks... doors constantly banging... paper that food is served on breaks and gets into the food. Sour dough bread too hard to chew because it was not fresh. For the price you would expect a better experience. Sriracha mayo was good though.
Great place for dogs who also received a biscuit!
Great service and very welcoming to rowdy cyclist.lol. Will go back for that croissants.
A Nice place (Coffee was fantastic), nice staff and good service ... BUT ...... the food was awful - I ordered the English Breakfast - My sour dough was toasted to much, super hard and burnt on edges, Bacon was ok, but cold – also burnt on edges, scrambled egg was bland and had no taste (super cold), the mushrooms were terrible – tasteless and ice cold, tomatoes tiny and burnt and then the best of it all, added a Pork sausage for R22 …. What came? A TINY sausage …. FOR R22? I felt I was robbed – the entire meal cost me R300.00 and I think I could have had a better meal at the Mugg & Bean at the Total Garage next to this venue in Melkbos. Not impressed and unfortunately, they won’t see us again. If you want a quick coffee – sure, for Breakfast – no thank you 😊
Loved the calm atmosphere.... Might be on a main road but it doesnt feel like it. Lovely lawns for the little ones to play on! Great, friendly service! 😃
Lee is a great operator. She knows how to build a business. Turned the situation around. Great chicken schnitzel. Great service.
What a gem! Friendly staff and the best croissants.
Great, friendly staff. Food excellent except for the very poor quality chips.
Definitely a must visit. Great food, great prices and awesome service
Best coffee, best pies, best everything!
The staff are exceptionally friendly and the service excellent. There is such a lovely tranquil atmosphere. I will most definitely be back and highly recommend the restaurant. Excellent place for families with children as well.
Service and ambiance was great. However. Our breakfast was very disapointing. When paying just under R100 for a omlette i expect the quality to match the price and the same for the wrap. Food is well presented, more care should be put in to flavour before presentation
Their coffee outstanding the homemade pies divine
Great service from staff. Well stocked. Enjoy a good cup of coffee and bought some for takeaway
Had a great breakfast and kids enjoyed playing.
What a very nice place, wow
Hot tea, but very thick cups to drink out of! Good choice of eats. Need to go there at lunchtime
Great manageress, food good, price bearable, location useful, all more than enough to have us return
What a great first stop to fill up with petrol and food if you are going up north on holiday!!
Food was good, juice was good but not the homemade lemonade juice wasnt available, still worth a visit.
Ou Meuls food and service is great and they are very dog friendly, which was amazing! Looking forward to my next meal there.
Much as I would have loved for the venue to have an ocean view, the service, food and overall experience was exceptional. ☕👏🎉
I enjoyed their friendly service and the food was great. This was all helped by superb weather and a windless day
Really nice surprise, situated on the R27 opposite Melkbos. Friendly staff, fresh menu. We shared a chicken, avo and cheese sour dough sandwich, which was very generous in size and delicious. Their fresh juice mixes are also very pleasant. Fresh produce to purchase and a vast selection of fresh pies- either single serving or family size. Lovely childrens play area too.
Im in 2 minds! I loved the character of the old place before Ou Meul took over. However, under new ownership, the place is neat & tidy & the coffee is excellent.
Very nice place for a quick take away on route or a lazy sit-down with kids enjoying the playground. They even had little gluten free cakes. Staff were friendly. Would have loved some gluten free meal options though.
Small portions of food with big prices!!!definitely caters for the rich ones!!
Service was good, food highly overpriced. Ordered 3x bacon and chicken, avo sandwiches at just below R100 each and none had bacon. Regardless cant justify price and what you receive.
Some of the worst service ever! We were seated and then left alone for 30 mins before somebody who was not our waiter offered to help! He gave us superb service and the drinks came so quickly.
Delicious pies great service
