Quite a lengthy menu. However, quite an impressive one. There is a huge variety of choices and the restaurant prides itself as a tapas restaurant. Thus, expect smaller portions and a larger bill as you will need to order several food items to be feel satiated.I will say that the food served is exquisite. The decor is lovely and it has an amazing atmosphere. Would love to have an event here in the future.

It was our first visit, and really enjoyed it. Great atmosphere, even though it was a very quiet Wednesday school night. The staff were really efficient and Sam and co can be proud of there friendly, efficient style. Masks were worn at all times but this did not diminish their approach. The food is something different, but unfortunately my choice was spoiled by way too much salt in 2 of the dishes. This was such a pity because I could tell that behind this flaw was a really beautifully presented, and delicious meal. I mentioned it to the staff and they promised to tell the chef. I would not let this spoil the experience though. It is a real find for me and we shall definitely return.

I loved the decor and ambience, we were welcomed as we arrived and immediately taken through to our table. The food was lovely - 4 portions recommended were more than enough per person. You are given a choice to order 4 portions per person at R300 or alternatively you can chose to order individual portions. I had the sea-bass (my fav), lamb & salmon. As a forth portion I had the sago pudding. In addition they have a great wine selection and seem to cater for vegan and vegetarian preferences.Unfortunately the service was not that great and it did not get any better as the evening progressed. From what it looked like there were not enough waiters and waitresses although the restaurant was not too full.I will however definitely return as the food was really good. Thanks Cheyne’s!*Tips:- there is plenty of parking- don’t order all dishes at once especially if you are tasting with someone- everything arrives simultaneously and warm dishes will get cold so ask if you can order 2 or 3 at a time.

Ive always seen people talk about Cheynes but never actually considered going and then last night my bestie took me for my birthday and WOW!!! I am completely blown away. I wanted something lowkey, and quiet to celebrate 29 years on this earth and Im so glad she chose this incredible place. The vibe, the staff and the setting were of course on point but the shining star was without a doubt the foodie experience. The portions were bigger than I expected, I was stuffed even before the end of it. And each dish took me on a whole journey... flavorful, well balanced, exciting, intimate and just overall mindblowing.I tried the Fried Milk, with coriander and shallots and I actually had to pause for a full 10min after eating it to just process what I had experienced. The more I chewed, the more it evolved.I also had a non-alcoholic cocktail with berries? Not sure what it was called as I asked the waiter to surprise me but even that was DELICIOUS.When I got the bill, I couldnt believe the experience only costed us R550 per person including tip. I dont drink and she only had one glass of bubbles so there is that, but still... a pretty reasonable price for a PERFECT birthday evening. I really loved how many fish and veg option there were for me ❤She summed it up perfectly when she said I feel like Im at Coachella for my taste budsDo yourself a favour and just go.You wont be disappointed.

Mixed feelings. The cocktails are exceptional and the food overall was great. But its the small things that matter and can really put a dampener on the the experience.Long story short, the restaurant served us the wrong desserts and came up with a lame excuse when we queried the mistake. Instead of making it right and either replacing the dessert or comping it from the bill they just left it at that.So instead of leaving with the epic desserts we ordered, we left with a sour taste and feeling somewhat cheated.

This is a hard review to write. I loved the ambiance and decor. The tastes and flavours were good, complex and wonderfully novel, but I found the food to be very overdone and drowned in so much mayonnaise/sauce/aioli/cream that the delicate flavours of the salmon tartare, raw beef, pork belly and mushrooms were completely drowned out. A menu without pictures makes it really hard to choose, as some dishes are minuscule (two crackers with a small piece of raw meat and a bed of mayo) and others more filling (the salmon tartare comes served in a bowl with rice). If you pick wrong, you will either be left starving or overfull. Lastly, the prices are outrageous. If money is not a problem for you, you want something novel and different, subtle isnt your thing and you like everything smothered in loads of sauce/mayo, this is for you :)

Their food is stellar! Unfortunately they dont cater for non-alcoholics, which is a missed opportunity because a juice pairing would work so well with the foods. The atmosphere was a bit lackluster, but the interior is super cool with fun paintings on the wall for sale. If youre looking for a yummy culinary experience - this is the place (make sure to try out the Korean Lamb Gyoza)... If youre looking for a fun family spot - perhaps hit up some of the other awesome local restaurants.

Cheynes is a cool little gem found in Houtbay right by the Checkers. The parking gets full quickly but overflow into the Checkers parking area. They have a security guard patrolling during the night and also guide you to your car with a flash light instead of just putting up sufficient lighting outside.(gets very dark outside). The location is good. The atmosphere is incredible. We had a table setting for 11adults and 2 kids and the table was a little uncomfortable. One side of the table could not communicate with the other side and breaks to the lavatory proved a struggle as tables had to be moved for the people to get out.(disrupting). The service was good. Our waiter got a few requests wrong but was forgiven because the food was simply delicious. The special they were running was very confusing when the bill came as it was R180 per person and you can have any 3 items off the menu but they still ring it up as individual items.(which was confusing because you could not see where the food was discounted?) Overall a great experience. They will be kicking over to the start of Spring Specials which will be R280 for 4 items of the menu. This is a must visit. The portions is a little bigger than tapas which means you can try all your favorites in one sitting. Cool hey? See you there soon!

Phenommenal food, without a doubt one of the best spreads Ive ever eaten.3 of us shared the special (where you each have 4 plates), so ended up sharing 12 plates. Each plate was very unique and had strong, but yet balanced flavor. The service was great as the waiters have a good sense of humor and are very good with children, the one waiter carried our daughter to our table which put her in a great mood.We received confirmation of our booking via SMS a second after we hung up the phone with them. The atmosphere, art and lighting outside looked awesome and made for a relaxing evening.

Decor is funky -- if you appreciate such a thing to accompany your meal.Outside area is quite appealing but has music thats far too loud -- hard to imagine why the owners would think that a night-club atmosphere would be attractive to diners during the day?? What were they thinking?Service is mediocre, un-trained & thoroughly un-professional / incapable. No redeeming aspects at all.The worst aspect is the impossibly poor value-for-money: Ridiculously tiny portions for impossibly high prices!! I mean, what is this all about? Are they serious?Sorry, guys, simply an outstanding rip-off!! So many other places to go to, where one is able to enjoy a decent meal that is well-priced, that has decent service and fully understands patrons. Suggest you avoid this place!
