My first time at Carne ... and it does so much right: a head chef who brings a complimentary unexpected starter to your table, two attentive waiters, tender steak, delicious sides. About the only thing puzzling for me is the menu is quite small, but if all you want is a great night out and quality meat, you cant go wrong here.

Enjoyed the good quality of meat. Can really recommend the steak tartare. Do not give 5 stars as the experience was not super great (e.g. friendliness of waiters)

What an amazing dining experience. If you havent already been, you absolutely need to book and have your taste buds tantalized. We were even treated to a taster made especially by the owner. The staff are exceptional. Their wine selection is phenomenal, so definitely have a bottle to suit your course.

After six weeks of a relentless craving for a buttery well glazed medium rare steak and constant rubbery disappointment from Nelsons eye, I took a spontaneous turn to Carne on a random afternoon; I was not disappointed.Dedicated steak lovers should expect an extensive menu with suitable pairings complimented with fresh sides (the spinach tasted as though it was freshly picked in the back).Thank you for the friendly service.I highly recommend this place

Carne on Keerom has been a special place since going for the first time 3 years ago. Having been the first time at the Kloof restaurant, I was happy to still be treated to a consistently good service. The lamb ravioli never disappoints and is my personal favorite from the menu. Its tender and so juicy- definitely a must try!

We happened on this place by chance, as our first preference of restaurant was fully booked. Carne was also fully booked, but managed to fit us in with no fuss. Boy am I glad they did, as the whole experience was great!Kevin, our waiter was fantastic. He explained the menu to us, offered recommendations and was efficient at ensuring we had everything we needed - all with a smile!!I’d highly recommend Carne if you looking for a comfortable and modern restaurant for a hearty meal.

Everything from service to food just wows, had the most delicately seasoned & perfectly prepared steak in the longest while, drinks & starters are also prepared to perfection, would definately go back & also highly recommend

And they have fantastic ravioli and other typical Italian delights and wines.A must visit!

The food was slow, poorly plated and our steaks weren’t cooked to the correct temperature - ordered MR and they arrived blue (still ice cold in the centre) - something a chef should notice if attentive - especially due to the fact that the steaks were pre-sliced.We sent the restaurant a few messages on social media detailing the issues which they ignored.They don’t seem to care. I would steer clear.

A meet lovers mecca of epic proportions! Im always a fan of Chef Giorgio Navas food: quality ingredients prepared honestly and served with excellent wine! Try the lamb ravioli (itll blow your mind) and spider steak!

Quality of the plates/ingredients was very good, no complaints in this regard. We enjoyed the steak tartar and game tasting. However, the environment and service were not spectacular and I would personally not return as there are so many other offerings.- Red wine by the glass was served fridge cold and had solids present.- The floor was trembling the whole time due to turbulencia coming from the kitchen, I am unsure what exactly.- Staff was not particularly friendly a

Excellent food if you like steak. The spider steak is especially good. Great wine selection but a bit expensive. Great for date night. Lunch is okay but kitchen closed at 3 so you cant linger.

First heard about Carne when I saw somebody feed Phil. Really wanted to try it out. My fiancé had the burger and I had the mixed meat combination plate with springbok and wildebeest. The food was okay but underwhelming. Maybe not worth the price.

Best of the best, really. They squeezed us in from the other restaurant location because I had my heart set on a tomahawk, and they did not disappoint. First got us seated right even though they were booked, Damon showed us all the meats and then I picked a nice 1 kilo tomahawk. They cooked it and sliced it perfectly to my liking and its definitely a bargain at that price.Tartar appetizer was excellent with three flavors to sample, and my better halfs filet medallions were perfectly medium rare with delicious sauces. Hope we have time to get back for another great meal. Either way, thanks very much!

As expected the restaurant is a bit of a meat palace, but what surprised me was how brilliantly prepared the truffle infused creamy ravioli with peas dish was. Absolutely yummy! Wine selection by the glass is pretty limited, but the owner graciously offered a glass of chardonnay (which I craved for with the pasta dish) on the house. Bread was stale however and my partner’s hamburger undercooked. However, overall Carne is well worth giving a try.

Easy dinning and seriously good steaks. The precut steak was the spider steak - which I have never seen in the US - and it was top notch!!We also got another steak - I believe the flat iron, it was good, and would be a considered really good if we had not also ordered the spider steak.Fries and mash potatoes were pretty good too.

Interesting range of meat dishes as well as other delicious Italian food. Service, food and vibe was awesome! Will definitely be back.

Excellent Sirloin steak, mash as well as sweet potato fries were amazing. That being said, it take the food way too long to arrive. I hope it was only a one time issue because apart from that everything was great.

Prefer the smaller Carne on Kloof over the larger one in Keerom Street. For what ever reason the service and food feels and tastes better.

True to their name! Not the usual fares but well cut, well matured, well prepared quality meat. The rib on the bone or tomahawk is jucy and satisfies even the most hungry diner. Competent service and stylish ambience adds to a truly meaty experience. Yum!

My steak was done beautifully and the wine menu offers great options.Hand sanitiser is needed throughout the restaurant, and especially in the restrooms.

Lovely food from South Africa with an italien twist. The atmosphere is ver nice and cosy, well decorated.Thé waiting staff present you each piece of meat on a platter that toi van choose from.They have à nice selection of wine too!!if you are meat lover, go there without à doubt.Staff is lovely too !!

I heard good things about Carne, but experience wasn’t so pleasent.I ordered a R270 fillet, and asked for it Medium rare on the closer side to Rare.The steak arrived, and whilst very tasty, was medium well. ( 100% not medium rare, or even medium)I called the waiter over, who agreed it was not medium rare at first but then proceeded to ask me to dissect my steak to try show me I was wrong. After a while, he agreed it wasn’t medium rare and took it to the chef, 2 minuets later he came back and told us the chef said it is perfect and won’t be doing anything about it.I tried to point out that another person at myTable ordered the same steak medium well and it was the exact same color, but the waiter responded with attitude saying , it isn’t his problem, the chef said it’s fine.After which I could hear the waiter talking about how we are difficult customers for simply asking for our steak to be cooked as we ordered it.If you are charging almost R300 for a steak, the least one can do cook it as ordered, and if it has been over cooked, rectify the problem.Food has potential, customer service doesn’t. Won’t be back

Food was good but we were served by a tip hungry obsequious supercilious italian waiter who spent the evening fawning over us, but not providing the necessary service, and turned very nasty when we refused to add service. The food was ok, the atmosphere but I wont be returning.

Had a devine ravioli and the steak was out of this world.

Carne is meat...so one would expect the food to be served as ordered, especially after nearly 2hrs from order taken. Bad experience aggravated by compromised service until Damian arrived to help out a clearly understaffed restaurant. Difficult to reconcile tonight with past experiences at Carne in Keerom. Cannot recommend this establishment.

Wide selection of steaks (far beyond only beef), and the head chef visibly cares about quality and preparation.

Blame Covid-19 but easily the worse experience at Carne. After so many years treasuring this experience, the service has deteriorated to such extent that it is not worth a visit. Sadly the food is still good but the service is so bad that it completely negates food quality. Coffee ordered never came even after asking 3 times, We just about finished the food when the sauces that is suppose to accompany the meat came. The bill took another half hour. We couldnt wait to get out. Any hope of survival is dependent on rapidly changing service quality. Otherwise this establishment will soon be part of Cape Towns history.

The order took a while, we had to ask for our order to be taken. But when it did come, Wow, it was worth the wait. We were in a large group and had a selection of steaks to share. Their steaks are aged and tasted incredible, my favorite was the Florentina and the lamb ribeye. The Florentina is 1.2kg, its definitely for at least two. Wine selection is also brilliant. I will definitely be coming back.

Great steak and pasta

It is the WORST steak house I have ever been and I have been to many, any place will be obviously way better choice then this and here is why:1/ Service. Not existed.Waiters hardly speak English. No bread, no forks after food arrived, forgot our water, no salt or pepper (reminded 5 times), after food arrived NO FORKS! after food was finished - they brought us sauces!!! At the end of the meal waiter asked us why we did not left him tip !!!2/ No game meat and we came for it. Half of the things advertised on the menu not existed.3/ Food - below average. if not worse. Meat arrived cold and I am not the first writing this complaint here about it. You can definitely can get a better steak at a street market.4/ Spent about 120 USD on a meal for 2 people and I feel totally crooked, this restaurant deserves to be bankrupt and closed.5/ If it was in the US, management would be paying for your dinner for such f. up.I definitely will take it further on all the services possible to put this nice place out of business.Would put zero star, cant, putting 1 - too much for this sham.Avoid if you can, Cape Town has many great restaurants and some worst ones, Carne Kloof is the WORST YOU CAN GET!

Had dinner here yesterday and had high expectations because of a recommendation but unfortunately was quite the failure. We both ordered the sirloin medium rare. It came out medium. When we commented on it the manager said it was cooked perfectly medium rare, but with high exception he would give us a new steak because he wanted to “‘make us happy”. Despite the fact that he argued the steaks being cooked medium, he was of good service offering us both a new steak. The new steaks were cooked proper medium rare, but still were not very tasty because of the quality of the meat. Easy to sell 300gr steaks when you have to cut off 50gr of fat. The meat also contained tendons which should have been cut out. I ordered sauce for the fries which I had to ask for twice. By the time the sauce came the fries were cold. I also ordered sauce with the steak which I had to ask for three times. Pretty unacceptable. Overall poor quality meat and poor preparation of the meat, the waiters are kind, the manager doesn’t really seem to get it.

Excellent service and great food

Expensive, but delicious. Admittedly, the expensive part may be due to the fact that I dont get out to nice restaurants much nowadays. Service was excellent. Food was excellent.

Petty and snooty management. The food is good, but theres plenty of steakhouses in CT who are actually interested in the diner having a good evening. Will definitely not be going back.

Service was ok, the meat came out way undercooked, the sides were cold. When we sent back the sides they offered to heat them up and we asked for fresh. When the meat came back it was charred to the point that the whole meat had the charred taste. The potatoes came out so spongy and greasy we could not even eat them. Very disappointed

The steaks were not as big as we were expecting - they had been sliced and spread out to make them look bigger. My husbands rump steak was very sinewy and tough. Service was okay.

Had game meat at Carne. Great service, had 3 game meat, medium rear.. succulent! I recommend.

Mega friendly service and good steaks. After been there now for two times I have to say that I would not go there again to have a steak. They are cooking the steaks on woods, and they doesnt seem to have a second fireplace to let the wood burn down first. The meat had both times this very tree resin taste. The quality is really good, but that kills it at the end. I love to make good Steaks on my own, soni know how to make it better. Sorry, but this needs to be changed.

This is the best steak I have ever had in my whole life of eating as much meat as possible.I had the kind of meal that makes you laugh because of its deliciousness - a phenomenon I had not yet experienced. Dont bother getting a sauce, just choose a cut from the platter your server brings to the table (another thing I had never experienced) and eat it as it comes.Lovely location on Kloof Street, makes for a sweet walk after dinner.

Wow! If you love meat, come here. The lamb and the filet were incredible. The carne potatoes were great as well. Service was great, very friendly and efficient with great suggestions.

This restaurant is definitely for carnivores. The lamb ravioli was excellent but others in our group did not finish their steak. It is generally over priced and wines are unacceptably pricey for SA.The deserts were limited. The Tiramisu lacked flavour and was very disappointing. The ice cream was just 2 scoops in a bowl with a miniscule sliver of strawberry at a ridiculous price.

No complaints about the food. Beautiful piece of Sirloin, but the service was awful !We had an Italian waiter who was over friendly and very annoying ( so much so that he spoilt what was supposed to be a relaxed evening meal)Despite tips being discretionary he demanded a 10% tip ( based on his performance he was not getting one). He then became extremely hostile and rude !Avoid this place .... When you go out, its not just about the food ...... !!

The meat is very good even the staff is friendly

We ordered our burgers medium and medium rare. They both came out very well done, not even medium well, they were so so dry, couldnt even eat them with the bun. We were starving so we ate them, and in general, I never send back the food and never complain. But this time I just mentioned to the server to tell the chef that the burgers were reallyyy overcooked. In terms of customer service, they did not seem to care. Just a bad experience overall.

Simply amazing. Colleagues and I all had something different e.g. fillet, rump, lamb cutlets, and something else and we were all pleased with our meals. Service was great, they even do a little tutorial on the different cuts and differences.

Carne SA  is synonymous with quality meat, Milanese flair and unbridled passionCarne likes to let steak do the talking, from the moment the waiters parade a platter of quality meat before your table. Which unfortunately was not the case last night because we decided at exactly 9:30pm that we wanted to go to Carne Kloof for dinner , mind you their kitchen closes at 22:00. My friend called and made a reservation for a table and highlighted the closing time. But where there is a determined meat lover , there is a way. I called again at exactly 9:43 pm and asked them to please prepare my meal and that I was on my way.Alongside prime beef, lamb and venison, you will get to see hanger steak, spider steak, prime rib on the bone. One of the signature dishes is the 1.2 kg La Fiorentina T-bone, a fine choice for a hungry nation which is what we opted for as there was three of us and all very hungry. This to be followed by their decadent chocolate fondant which I always argue that it needs to come standard with the ice cream! (story for another day this ice cream one)The food was ,as always amazing and the glass of Optima went perfectly well with the meat. As sides we had  the mashed potato and spinach. Now the mash potato at Carne is another story I want to explore another day! Never in the history of potatoes has mash tasted that good!Even though it was late and you could see they were preparing to close , we were not rushed . One did not get a sense of you need to leaveGreat food. Great service .. Great great Great!Carne Kloof is slowly but surely starting to replace Carne on Keerom as my fave Carne!

We have eaten twice at Carne SA on Keerom and that both times was an amazing experience, but the location on Kloof...does not know how to make a steak medium rare. And when we deigned to complain, the manager argued with us when we pointed out that the steak was almost well done. The second steak was blue! Were not the type to complain but a steak place this serious should get a steak temperature perfect the first time, not on the third try. Our server (Elio?) was excellent and recommended an excellent wine, and deserves credit for recognizing and solving problems. The manager obviously knows nothing about meat.

I’ve honestly had much better meat at loads of different places in Cape Town compared to Carne. Really over rated and over priced.

Nice design and decor, but I was a bit disappointed about the food. The variety of cuts is engaging and the staff is very patient and knowledgeable.

Came highly recommended but was disappointing. The portions are too small while the prices are high. Nice setting and ambiance but the food was lacking. Had to find a different place for dessert because their offerings were inadequate.

There is no better place for great, well prepared and cooked red meat in Cape Town CBD.

Although the flavours are really on point, the portions are extremely tiny for the price it asks, it doesnt feel very much worth it.

Really great meat (especially the rib eye) and the service is really good. The ambience is also in tune with the service and its reasonably priced.
