Firstly, this is a business that is family owned, Nazli and Boeta Yusuf is always on hand to welcome you with a warm smile. Secondly, you have an amazing view over the Bo-Kaap and the CBD, from a restaurant in the heart of this cultural hub. Thirdly, you have an amazing food spread being prepared, freshly prepared, FULL OF FLAVOR, traditional Malay Cuisine at its best. The pricing is on par with other restaurants, just more value / quality food, for your money from this restaurant. The restaurant had gone over and above most Cape Town restaurants, by having screens installed between tables, in an effort to prioritize safety for patrons where it comes to covid.Ive taken many local and international guests to this establishment and they have never disappointed. I recommend this restaurant to everyone, and the warm reception by the owners, makes it feel like your visiting family opposed to eating at a restaurant.
Our first time here, menu offers Malay Dishes and Desserts, we were not disappointed. I absolutely loved the view from our table, the entire Table Mountain was visible. Really liked the cover of the menu, especially to pictures of Bo-kaap. Each table had a Covid screen and covid protocols were followed, also doors and windows were open as well
What a beautiful restaurant and an equally impressive menu and service. A true gem, hidden in the quaint suburb called Bo-Kaap. This place is also a perfect venue for that intimate wedding or special occasion. Loved everything about it, especially the very tasty meals and reasonable prices. Booking is essential.
I had such a pleasant lunch with my partner here - nothing can be faulted. The tasting platters are delectable and filling. The quality of food in general is astonishingly high for their reasonable prices. But my favourite part of my visit is the warm, accommodating atmosphere and impeccable service. Definitely going there again!
The food was awesome, The service amazing, fantastic view. The falooda was a hit with my son and I loved the Mango lassy. The hospitality of the owners were very warm. A must visit in Cape Town.
We stumbled across this place whilst checking out Bo-Kaap. The view is breathtaking, as if the the mountain is on display just to this area. There are only 2 tables on the balcony so booking is a must. Great covid practices with screens between tables & waiter keeps distance. The food is very traditional & the establishment does have a warm family feel. No kids menu but they do offer chicken nuggets & chips. The falooda shake is heavenly. Pricing averages around 140-220 for a main meal. The Parking is on the street amongst residential holdings.
AvisWe went for a lunch meal, the menu show 198 + 156 + 20 for what we had . At the moment to pay the man asked me to come at the entrance , he didnt gave me the bill. As we were talking with him nicely , I didnt pay attention at the amount on the CB machine (his phone basically + those little CB machine) . I asked then for the reciep he asked me to enter my email to recive it . (I was surprise they didnt show me the bill for me to add my tip ...)It ended up I ever had it in my email .Never.But when I check my bank account , I ve paid 30% more than I should have !!!!I call that a sly and quiet misleading of customersBy the way this is the most expressive bill I had for this kind of meal in the CapeI will not recommand the place to locals and tourists .Avoid it .Period.
Traditional Cape Malay dishes, at very reasonable prices. Having the buffet was like eating in someones home, not a restaurant. Highly recommended
Food excellent and staff very friendly and pleasant. Clean with a view of Table Mountain. Bit on expensive side for SA tourist!
What a lovely place, great host and great food!
Had the awesome pleasure dining at this most exotic and wonderful restaurant. Booked in at this charming place for our 29th wedding anniversary and the entire team of Yusuf nazli anees and the rest of the staff made us feel so welcome .food was absolutely divine from the starter platter to the main course .service was impeccable.thanks to the entire staff for catering to my special requests to make this day extra special. All round a stunning 10 out of 10 in my books
Food was fantastic. Really enjoyed myself and excellent service. Well done guys.
Excellent service Lovely staff would come again and refer this place to all my acquaintances
We called to see if they were open for take away orders. We’re glad that we did! We selected the tasting platter and it didn’t disappoint. The rooti bread was amazing! The lockdown didn’t stop us from trying this great Malay cuisine! The people running it are very friendly.
Visit the restaurant every time I come to Cape Town and still enjoy the best food here! Friendly staff adds up to a never-to-be-missed experience!! Keep it up!!
Had a wonderful experience at BO Kaap Kombuis, the area, the atmosphere, the food was all superb, Had my husbands cousins Walima at the restaurant and everything was beautiful amd perfect thanks to Aunty Naz for her cullinary expertise in giving her clients authentic Malay cuisine from Beans Bredie, Akhnie, Sweet Yellow rice with sultanas and almonds, Famous Bobootie, Frikkadel, Sweet Sticky Chicken covered in sesame seeds, Chicken curry with all the condiments that goes along with these main meals from traditional Mango atchaar, Sliced Beetroot, Onion and Cucumber Uiwe slaai, then a few well known salads like potato, coleslaw and a lovely green salad and Aunty Waheedah for being such a wonderful hostess, Thanks to everyone including behind the scenes staff for such a lovely lunch experience.
Wow the best home made food served.
Best vibe, good food and accommodating, friendly staff and Management.
I enjoyed their staff their Hospitality it the family atmosphere their food delicious love it will go there again for supper Ill share with my friends to book there
The most amazing Cape Malay food! Friendly service and great view.
If food was a rugby match I would compare this restaurant with the magic of Cheslin Kolbe! Wish it was possible to take a photo of the smells wafting from the kitchen. And the views of the city lights from our table were fabulous!
The food was delicious! defiantly the best restaurant in this area, and best cape malay food in cape town! and the owner was so nice, due to internet problems we couldnt pay by card, and we had no cash so he said that we dont need to pay, and asked us to donate the money once we get the chance. We all should support this kind of places and people. Specially if the food is so great. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Wow! Food and service is amazing! From starters to dessert. Will definitely back!
Friendly people good place to eat
Awesome people! Delicious food! Please make a turn there and have a meal
OMG! The food! I absolutely loved the food. The staff were friendly and the service was great. This is by far my new favourite spot in Cape Town
Atmosphere was lovely. Food was too little variance for the R250 I paid. No savory rice as indicated on the men. Felt somehow cheated.
So sincerely authentic, very homey, value for money. Food is packed with flavour.
Friendly service, amazing views of the city and Table Mountain. They also child friendly
Traditional Malayan food prepared carefully by experienced hands. Very helpful staff.
Amazing views, amazing food, amazing service. A must.
We had a great lunch here. With the alcohol ban in South Africa, a restaurant that never serves alcohol seemed a good choice. The restaurant is located at the top of the Bo-Kaap with amazing views of Table Mountain. Parking was easy to find. A friendly and efficient team and a clean and welcoming interior. The food was great, we chose tasting dishes which allowed us a sample of curries, bobotie and their speciality Denning Vleis. The menu was extensive and there are a lot more dishes I want to try. I am sure this would be a great place to take visitors to Cape Town to give them a good sample of Cape Malay food. I look forward to going back.
Food was fantastic and great service from the friendly staff. Such a nice view as well
Great menu which includes the Cape Malay classics and more. Food is of a high standard and nicely presented. Lovely atmosphere, great views and good service.
Traditional Malay Cuisine
Attended a staff lunch and was impressed, the food was amazing. Alot of the dishes are traditional cuisine but there are options for something different. The view is absolutely amazing. Tends to get quite full so best to call ahead. Definitely recommend
Delicious food, great service, fantastic view.
Overpriced for a simple buffet. We chose this restaurant because we were near to the Bo-Kaap neighbour. We arrived at the restaurant and the waiter talked about they didn’t have a menu in that moment and they offered us a buffet. The buffet was very simple with some curry dishes, salad or cuscus. Our surprise was when we ask the bill and they required 609ZAR (40€) for 2 people. Very disappointed with this restaurant when with this price you can eat in better restaurants in the town.
Amazing food and friendly hosts and amazing view
Great local food, with the friendliest of people
Its a nice place to see
The meal was really enjoyable. I brought a good friend from Port Elizabeth and had a fantabulous buffer lunch. They were killing me with kindness. The dessert was on another level. Delicious is an understatement. Will DEFINITELY be back for more.
Amazing food, best views and friendly and kind family Yusuf, Nazli, sons and team. Well done. Lucia Vieira
The best
Authentic and tasty food, but totally overpriced.
Food was awesome! Great view! Awesome hospitality! Loved the desert! One thing they could improve on is having music, perhaps cape malay music to suit the environment and theme.
Food was excellent and staff was awesome would really go again
Great food, friendly people, beautifull view!
Excellent food.. friendly staff..
They have an official website with all sorts of detailed information, including a menu, but no prices. I am not interested in doing business with people like this -- would not even walk in the door to look. Check some of the other 1 and 2 stars reviews and see how people got duped and overcharged.
Total tourist trap. Do NOT go. Food is below average and at R500 for two it’s totally overpriced. More expensive than lunches in Europe. It’s only buffet and it’s worth only R100 per person. Not a penny more. There’s also a R70 service charge added on. Very disappointed that Google reviews is giving it over 4 stars on average. We were in a hurry and saw the overall rating and went there...didn’t read the reviews...big mistake! Also it’s a super steep walk uphill from the main Bo Kaap streets. Save your money and go elsewhere.
Enjoying your supper with Table mountain as a backdrop is a memorable experience never to be forgotten. The food is great, service is fast and efficient. They cater for small or large groups.
What a fantastic experience! Friendly wonderful staff that make you feel at home. Excellent food in a stunning environment! An AMAZING view of Table Mountain both by day and by night! These guys and girls make me proud to call myself South African. The “Rugby playing ballerina
A wonderful, warm, family welcome. Delicious and delightful food and outstanding views of the city and Table Mountain.I will definitely be back.( This is a no alcohol restaurant, so plan on drinking your sundowner down in the city somewhere, I recommend a glass of wine at Open Wine.)A charming cultural and culinary experience. We came for the food, but left feeling part of the family !!
Nice, cosy, quiet, tranquil, welcoming, great view, chillled
Definitely over priced and buffet menu was dismally poor. Overrated and over priced, ended up paying R1100 for 3 of us
Lovely, lovely evening and meal. The views are fantastic and the food and service was excellent. We felt like we were dining in a family home.
Food was good but not outstanding. I have had better Cape Malay Curries. Be sure to check if you are getting a sweet or savory rice with your dish. A bonus though is you get a good a view of table mountain while dinning.
Very priceyNot accommodating to requests
Excellent choice to experience Cape Malay cuisine. Great service, friendly & welcoming staff. Thank you Bo-Kaap Kombuis ! 😊
Originally from Malaysia so I was keen to try out Cape Malay food. Restaurant was booked out to a local grandmas birthday lunch. Owner (Nazley) took pity on me, sat me down at the balcony away from the guest (with sweeping views of Table mountain) and gave me what she could spare, a sampling of cape Malay cuisine. Unsurprisingly, the food was incredible although milder in spiciness compared to Malaysian cuisine. Would love to come back if Im ever in Cape Town again.Yup, very much the same Malay hospitality you get from the Malay villages in Malaysia and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling afterwards.
Amazing view of the mountains, friendly staff and great food. I could happily have just the chicken samosas as a main meal, but the rest of the dishes are great too. Tip: the smoothie is excellent.
Best views and family restaurant ever!
Really disappointed with this visit. I came here 2 years ago and it was an a la carte dining. The food was good, decently priced and the views were great. Todays visit, however, was a buffet theme. It was 250R per pax and the selection was rather limited. The quality was decent but given the high- starch content of the food you tend to get filled up quite quickly. It was definitely not worth the 250R. I suggest the owners revert back to the old a la carte. This used to be my go-to place for Cape Malay food in Cape Town. Now, I guess its time to find a new place.
Tourist trap warning. The view is spectacular but thats about the only + about this place. There was only buffet available for lunch on friday. At 230 rand per person this place is expensive and the food quality was rather poor. No signs to say what the dishes were & almost everything was sweet to taste. Quite confused to see a default service charge on bill & a note below it to add a gratuity. If planning to walk, beware the steep climb uphill.
The best restaurant ever. Amazing service, spectacular food and exquisite scenery!! Well done Nazley and Team. Bianca and Bradley
Tourist trap! They only have a little buffet. No prices on display. No menu.little water is 30rand(a beer is that much in a bar)The buffet is shocking 300rand per person!(we paid that much for amazing seafood at hout bay)The food is ok but not great.Dont go there
Outstanding in every way!!! A beautifully appointed restaurant with magnificent views of Table Mountain, the Mother City & Table Bay beyond. Our hosts were so warm, friendly & welcoming. Our starter selection of samosas, patatas & chilli bites were delicious! We shared butter chicken, lamb & bean curry and a chicken curry with rice & rotis. Absolutely incredible flavour in every mouthful!!! One of the best meals I have ever eaten. What a wonderful experience. Well done! And Thank You! I came away feeling like Id been home for a special lunch. Proudly South African 😊♥️🤗❤️🇿🇦
Lovely food and excellent service
Most amazing Cape Malay food with the most friendly and accommodating staff you have ever experienced. To top it all off you have the most beautiful view of Cape Town while experiencing true Cape Town flavour.
Simple restaurant but with excellent food and stunning view to the table mountain from every seat in the restaurant! We had the tasting platter with different small dishes and it was delicious. If you can make it you should definitely make a visit!
Absolutely fantastic place to eat. Owner amazing. Very homey atmosphere. Can definitely recommend.
Stopped by, and said they were fully booked but the restaurant was empty. Its a restaurant, not a buffet hall.
Firtsly, the closed sign has been on the window the entire time. We stood outside for 20minute after they were suppose to have opened and eventually asked when they would be opening, to which they answered, come inside we are open. They were still busy setting tables and all dishes for the buffet was not ready yet. The waiter did not know anything and had to go ask someone else every time we had a question. The waiter did not clear the tables once we had finished something, we had to ask for empty dishes and empty cook drink tins to be removed. They did not inform us there was a function there that evening and found it very uncomfortable as we were sitting right by the people celebrating a birthday, yet, we did not know the people. We were seated right in a corner and had to squeeze past the birthday celebrators every time we wanted to go dish food as their tables were in the middle of the venue. The food... My husband enjoyed a few of their dishes, but it felt like we were intruding on the function as the food was closed up again until the birthday celebrators were ready to eat. The view was beautiful from where we were sitting, but that was about it. I was very disappointed in the experience.
Food wasnt bad but extremely over priced and service was dismal. As soon as european tourists walked in other customers were completely forgotten.
Brilliant food and perfect staff. Thank you for a great experiance.
Food, drinks, decor, service, scenery - everything was amazing when I celebrated my 21st birthday at Bo-kaap kombuis. Definitely worth the money!
