This is my favourite Japanese cuisine spot. I always make sure that when Im in the Western Cape, to eat at this place as much as possible before heading back home. Their sushi is the best thing Ive ever had, just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I love the food, the staff is also professional and very kind. I love love love this place
Willouhby is one of my favourites in Cape Town . It consistently delivers delicious dishes prepared in a beautiful way. My favourites are soft shell crab, bomb rolls and rock shrimp tempura rolls, but I try to force myself choosing other dishes too, which end up being also delicious. I like eating at the counter while watching the chefs preparing the sushi. The vibe is cool and relaxed. Pay a visit to the food shop in the restaurant, it’s full of interesting items.
I haven’t wanted to come here forever. Been applauded as the top sushi place in Cape Town and it did not disappoint. The menu was extensive with a nice mix of hot and cold appetizers, sushi classics and lots of seafood. Also had a nice list of wines by the 250ml carafe or bottle. Beautiful presentation of the sushi and attentive to my allergies. Lots of delicious options I almost couldn’t decide. Would recommend the sushi platter because you get a bit of everything. Only downside is that you’re sitting in the middle of the mall. For those prices you’d expect a view better than the Clicks
Fantastic as always! Our server today, June 25th - lunch service (I think his name was Jack) was very helpful in explaining the dishes to us (I’m not one for sushi lingo - so this really helped me narrow down my choices based on what I enjoy) Food is always brilliant. I highly suggest the Springfield Albariño as a wine pairing - light and refreshing!
Had a delicious prawn linguini at Willoughby & Co. today, good portion, so requested a takeaway, only to find later that evening that all but 3 prawns had been removed from the remaining dish. Frightening to think that at the COVID-19 pandemic times we are faced with that food can be tampered with. Needless to say takeaway was binned rather than take the chance. Very disappointed.
Hands down...I see why this establishment has stood the test of time. Superb sushi, service well timed, attentive and atmosphere great. Strength to strength all.
Our all time favorite restaurant in Cape Town, food is consistently epic!! If there is a queue, make sure you wait it out, it’s always worth it…
Great service! Good food!!!The place gets packed, calling for reservation would be great if you don’t want to stand in the queue for 15-30 hoping that someone would leave so you could get a spot.Unless you are going to the sushi bar then because it didn’t seem full. Also might be different cause I went on peak hours. Around 18:00-20:00.
The sushi is a must-have at Willoughbys. Not only is this a restaurant, its an experience! If you want quality, fresh, flavourful and delicious food... This is the place. The staff members are super friendly and fast too! I highly recommend the 5x5 for mains.
The first thing you would appreciate about this place is the size of the menu. You are just hit with a wide variety of quality options.Secondly, the service you get right from the entrance is top notch. Their warm embrace makes you feel at home.Thirdly, the food is just out of this world. Had a blast here and this place has to be one of the highlights in Cape Town.
We passed several restaurants in the V&A late on a Wednesday evening and they were the only busy one. Waited less than 5 minutes for a table, were served by a friendly and helpful waitress. She made a very good recommendation- all the dishes were well prepared and SÓ tasty. Go there any time for quality seafood and interesting sushi.
Absolutely incredible experience. The salmon platter was amazing! The Tempura platter too. This pace never disappoints
Willoughby, your Restaurant food is awesome..BUT.. PLEASE can you change your chairs. They are the most uncomfortable hard and badly designed chairs. See Woolworths Restaurant upstairs for the ideal comfortable chair. I wont be back until the seating is changed.
The best prawns and sushi. Incredibly amazing 👏
Willoughby’s has been renowned to be the best place to have sushi in Cape Town for several years and with very good reason. The service is impeccable and staff are very knowledgable (some have been working there for over 13 years!). You’re lucky if you can get there and not have to queue for a table because it is busy throughout the week. Their seafood as well as sushi dishes are all phenomenal!
Fantastic sushi.I see why its so popular.Good service and chocolate brownies ☺
This is my husbands favorite sushi haunt when he goes to our CT home. Interesting and wide selection and so glad they serve cold sake. My favourites are their spicy seafood soup dishes. If youre concerned about crowds these days, go early with a friend or two and youll not be disappointed. We have always been happy with our visits and service is good.
Decadent, delicious, amazing food and staff. The ambiance and quality makes u feel like you have been treated to some regal affair. The deli inside also magnificent with high quality products and a garenteed satisfying experience. My favorite treat to myself more than I should
Amazing food, amazing wine and amazing customer service, just make sure to arrive earlier than what you were expecting to be seated as they get full quickly.
Phenomenal customer service. Truly cant be faulted. There is a lack of vegetarian/vegan options but that is to be expected from a seafood restaurant. That said there are a couple exquisite dishes that are vegan that will get you by.
Top class seafood, especially the Sushi
Sushi was good, had the 4x4 which was recommended to me by a friend (R209), definitely preferred the sushi with the creamy prawn, tasted delicious. I think I need to try more sushi from Willoughby before I can give them a 5 star because I still think YuMe has a better variety of sushi. For me I thought it was good but not mind-blowing awesome.
Always full with a queue to enter the place, but well worth the wait as the food is superb
Pleasant ambience, friendly waiters, excellent staff and amazing food with a variety to choose from. Definitely worth it
Excellent food and service! Well done to the friendly staff and waiters readily available while enjoying the food 👍.....Superb and BEST SUSHI EVER....Buenisimo!!!
It is very rare that I go in the same restaurant two days in a row but food at this place is just amazing. We went back with a group of 7 so we had a chance to faste a bit of everything. I will return if I am in Cape Town again. The lady who took care of us on the first day was super friendly and gave us good advices.
Our all time favorite. Good service, great food, consistent. We will be back again and again.
Still the best sushi 4x4 never disappoints. And nowhere near as busy as pre lockdown levels
Don’t let the mall based location fool you, this is probably the best restaurant on the Cape.
Good quick food albeit pricey and yes sometimes you have just stand in the queue.Busy at obvious meal slots but well worth the wait
Really nice vegan options. Would totally recommend 😍😍
05.12.2019 During a quick work trip to CT I managed to get my sushi fix one evening.Ive heard alot about Willoughby, and although we have one in Hyde Park Ive never been.I love the Prawn toast at a local asian spot so was keen to try it here to see if its the same, as well as getting my Sushi fix so I took the 4x4 combo. 4 x Rock Shrimp Tempura and 4 x Rainbow Roll reloaded. My prawn toast was tasty and crisp but I think i prefer the one near home. My sushi was good although on the pricy side.Service was quick and efficient. We had a good laugh at our waiter as when we placed our order he kinda gave us this look and confirmed our order, as if to say are you ladies really going to eat all that.#TheFoodMusketeer#TheFoodMusketeerEats#TheFoodMusketeerDrinks#TFMWilloughbyandCo
Loved it here. Friendly staff and we had an excellent meal. Service was on time with a very helpful waitress. Definitely a place to visit
Whats there to say, gauranteed flawless perfection every time!! Chef Sam has lead his team by professional example since Willoughby introduced their sushi kitchen💯❤️
The first time I had sushi here made me feel like Id never had sushi before. Just wow!
Always a good. Lovely service and good food
An institution! The queue is the intriguing part.... To queue or not to queue? Is it a blessing or is it a curse? On a serious note, the food is excellent, the service is really good (slow at times but still great in spite of them being busy all the time), and if you dont want to be seen and envied by the passing crowds, youll be able to quickly get a place at the bar.Give it a go
I would give you guys 7 stars but apparently thats not possible. No ones had sushi until they have had YOUR sushi. WELL DONE.
Always fabulous! Great food, excellent service, fantastic hosting! Full package!
First time here and we had a superb sushi meal. The freshness and flavour was fantastic. Definitely will be back. We also had the fish and chips which was delicious.
Always good. Just a little expensive l feel.
The food was alright but the service left much to be desired. We left after paying for the bill but was stopped by the waiter, saying that what was paid wasn’t sufficient and demanded for gratuity. On closer look, we realized we didn’t notice the part on the receipt about offering an additional 10-15% gratuity if service is good. After providing some additional money, the waiter gestured and shot us a dirty look. We have visited multiple establishments in Cape Town, and many we have provided gratuity for good service. Today’s service was normal, but this was the first time we were stopped by a waiter for not giving gratuity. We aren’t coming back here ever again - don’t demand to be given gratuity, you are given for good service.
This place is nothing short of amazing. No bookings allowed but we were able to get a spot by the sushi counter and watched the chefs cook.Prices are well above R100+ for 8 pieces of sushi. They are quite filling and taste great.Tofu Dashi was amazing. I’ve had a lot of Japanese food and this was really good. Sushi was made well and the service was excellent. The atmosphere is cozy and busy. I would definitely return again.
We sat down , waited and waited for a menu , it wasnt busy , we waited - we then decided to go elsewhere , we left. I really like going to a restaurant where I receive a menu not having to ask for the obvious and am noticed.
Heartless, money hungry company that only cares about how much money they can milk from the customers. Notice how unfriendly their waitrons are? They are trained like that so that you do not sit in their restaurant for longer than you should so that they can turn the next table.
An amazing experience, awesome food and great service. Besides the most amazing sushi, the pudding was out of this world!
This is the best sushi restaurant by far. Fresh and delicious. Definitely worth the high price tag!!!
Truly The finest quality of seafood in Cape Town! 😍Fresh and perfectly prepared sushi (delicious creamy rock shrimp and the tuna and salmon rainbow rolls).Flavourful stars of the sea; crayfish and prawns. The teriyaki beef made the half Japanese in me go wild and of-course, the oysters.... sweet shots of the ocean in the best of ways 😋 what a flavor journey!P.s if you like my reviews check out my instagram @tingerry for more mouth watering reviews❤️😍🌈🎉
Amazing food.... awesome atmosphere
Dope, I will go again. Level of satisfaction was satisfactory.
Great and knowledgeable service and high quality cuisine. Good wines by the glass.
Never ever I experienced a restaurant in Capetown that has got so continuous property in quality and strength. Superb shush since years , always a fresh peace of Kinglip and of course also a nice bite of Norwegian salmon. Willoughby is irresistible good. Karl-L. Linkmann Germany
Best seafood, great service. Would definitely recommend.
Friendly staff. Good food.
Honestly one of the best places to eat at.
Best Sushi by by far ... try the 4x4
The best fish Ive had in my life. Catch of the day was swordfish. It was done to perfection, cooked on coal. It was my first time trying swordfish and they have set the bar very high. I hope they have swordfish next time Im in Cape town!
The restaurant is in a Mall, so the atmosphere ok. However, the polished service soon dispels the Mall like feeling. The menu is largely Japanese and the wine list has a large range of different styles. I had the Japanese salad which was delicious full of interesting ingredients. As a main I had sashimi which was very fresh but lacked variety: only 1 line fish, Tuna and Salmon. If you find yourself at the Waterfront and you dont mind the possible ques, it is well worth a visit.ps: the bill was not cheap! Keep going back despite heavy invoice!
Great sushi and mains and best dessert
Great place located in the mall adjacent to V&A waterfront. Good sushi menu + good pricing. I like the set up of the restaurant as well, very open and accommodating.
Best ever sushi, hospitality a 10. Service professional. Lovely atmosphere.
Great food. Expensive but worth it.
Excellent service and food. Wonderful vibe. Having to wait for a table is telling.
I dont think you can get much better sushi than this - has to be the gold standard of sushi in CT
