Beautiful restaurant that boasts with great views of sea point. It’s very busy during summer seasons and seems to be calmer in winter nevertheless I had the most amazing Risotto cooked to perfection with wild mushroom and chunky sun dried tomatoes did not disappoint.✨✨ the staff are very friendly and service is quick. Spot on 💕

After having made a booking a day prior, upon arrival we were told there was no booking in our name. The hostess dismissively directed us to a table (as if they were doing us a courtesy by allowing two 25 year olds to eat at their restaurant). Upon being seated, our waiter impatiently took our drinks order whilst trying to remove the excess cutlery from the two other open seats at the table). About 10 minutes later we received our drinks but our waiter was apparently too occupied to take our food order. After another 40 minutes of waiting (with no one taking any orders) I walked up to the manager and asked if I might be able to pay my bill and leave (I didnt even bother to try and call a waiter). They seemed to have suddenly found our booking, admitting they had given it to other customers. We were then asked to return to our table so we could be looked after. I did not take them up on the offer.I offer the following advice to potential future patrons of La Perla:- No matter how formally you dress, bring your neglected grandmother or distant aunt in order to be taken seriously and will therefore perhaps receive some form of recognition and service.-Make multiple bookings to ensure at least one will be written down and a table prepared for you. (Dont worry, they would have probably already filled the other ones you booked by the time you get there)-Upon arrival, demand to speak to the manager. Immediately let them know you are very serious about eating there. You will otherwise be left to the mercy of waiters that would rather decide to serve the bigger tables, with the supposed bigger tippers than your own.-However, my final advice would be to simply avoid the establishment entirely. If you are unconvinced, please peruse the other, numerous negative reviews. To La Perla I say, no doctor from our hospital (or at least will we strongly advocate for it), including myself and my boyfriend, will ever enjoy the subjective, dismissive, and arrogant service you have to offer again.

Wonderful and classical example of an Italian restaurant serving authentic and simple Italian food. Food is tasty - I would definitely recommend the butternut ravioli or the spinach caneloni. The portions are fairly generous too.The service of efficient, professional but not overly friendly. Well located overlooking the beachfront too. Do note, the place gets busy so be sure to make a reservation especially for dinner.

Lovely setting, food not bad, but above average prices for what you get? Our waitron was very good & made our visit enjoyable. My food was bit cold from the start & was send back to get warmed up after eating a 3rd of it. When they brought it back to me with a new full portion & I must say I was highly impressed! There home baked bread is an absolute must try. It had just come out the oven!

Review №17

The only special aspect of this establishment is its superb location - for that the two stars. Service levels are wholly dependent on the waiter in your area of seating - ranging from adequate to non-existent/abysmal. I enjoyed the view for an hour without a waiter checking on my glass of wine or offering a menu. I am constantly amazed at how willing Capetonians are to accept utterly poor service - a pity if one keeps in mind the reputation of Cape Town as a tourist destination. When I brought the poor service to the attention of the floor manager, he acted bewildered and offered me the glass of wine on the house... Clearly a business suffering from a serious case of management/owner failure and disrespect of their patrons.

I love our date nights here with my husband when I can get myself to CT. The food is good and some of the desserts are exceptional. Service is great. Its one of the few restaurants I feel I can relax and enjoy a good meal without being rushed. My only concern is the parking which I found rather inconvenient but otherwise its a place that I would return to without hesitation.

Visited this restaurant for an early supper today, beautiful venue, location, look and feel. Ordered a sirloin steak and mash to eat along worth a Pina Colada drink and then a Long Island ice tea. The food was below average, bland, and very little taste to it. The drinks, the same over basic and bland. I would classify the meal as poor value for money. Service was swift and speedy. We came for a light meal and drinks, was honest to the hostess about our intent. There were many tables open, yet we were put at the table at the entrance door where you walk out. There were 5 tables open at the front of the restaurant, with the open beach road view, and we were told we would be moved if a table opened . While we sat there for an hour all those open tables were never occupied, and the one table that was occupied, the people left as we sat down, was never cleaned in the time we sat there. So the whole front of the side of the restaurant was open while we sat there, we would not have taken away any potential business. We had a drink and we did end up having a starter, but we decided to end our experience with you guys there. By the time we left, the tables were still empty, table with the occupants that left when we sat down, still not cleaned. We asked the hostess why we were seated at the back when the front tables were empty the whole time we were there . We were told. Drink tables get seated at the back, but we can speak to the manager if we want to. Guys. The restaurant was empty outside, rather seat your drinks people at the front with a time limit, than make your restaurant look empty, dont tell people you will move them when tables will be available, when 5 tables were unoccupied for more than an hour, with one not cleaned while we were there. There is a new restaurant/drinks place opening up right next to you, and your game should be up. Its not the first bad experience we have had there, and if if this new place brings it, you guys are going to have a hard time. So after more than one try, we wont be back.

Absolutely love this grande olde dame of Sea Point. It has been going for years but have only just been and absolutely love it.Amazing sunset views on deck outside or inside for something smarter and fireplace for the colder nights and also a bar inside.Gets quite busy so evenings bookings recommended but also great to just pop in for a casual drink or something light to eat. Views are brilliant overlooking the famous promenade and great spot to have few sundowners, business meetup or just take in the view. We popped a bottle od rosé and had some carpaccio which was delicious.Service is either great or on slow side but doesnt detract from the overall atmosphere and vibe.

Very disappointed by the poor service we received. We were so excited to bring our friend from out of town to La Perla for an early dinner, however our reservation was never recorded (I called in on Monday/Tuesday to reserve a table, but when we arrived, no one had written it down). The bread we received was cold and the butter was rock hard, so we had to ask to heat the bread slightly so that the butter could spread; the menu is not clear and poorly presented, in saying this, the waitor was not helpful at all with recommendations and explanations of the menu, and didnt check on us once once we received our food... It actually felt as if we were an inconvenience being there. We had a look around and honestly feel the staff need to some serious training when it comes to service with a smile. Weve been in the hospitality industry, and need to say that this is a reflection of management.Reason for a 3 star rating and not a 1 star is because the food was delicious.

So disappointing. The menu is ridiculously overpriced. Ordered a kids portion of Salmon, medium rare. It was so dry and completely over cooked, couldnt eat it without dousing in mayo. Ordered the Sole Amok. Asked the waoter what that is and he said Lemongrass and Coconut. Sounded nice as I like flavour but not spice. Turns out its heavily turmeric and chili so way too spicy. On questioning it turns out the waiters dont know the menu. The meal is served with zero sides. R285 for two little soles. R65 for roast potatoes, which wasnt even a whole potatoes sliced. My husband order the veal Lemone and that was nice and a decent portion. After complaining the managiier cut the bill for us, but the point is that an anniversary lunch at a special venue was unpleasant and required complaining.

We had lunch here after landing from JHB and needed a place to have lunch in Seapoint, it was recommended by our Uber driver. The setting is AMAZING, absolutely fell in love with the whole lushness of it, that little fish pond there really gives the space an edge, never got to explore the inside because went straight outside because we wanted to enjoy the sea views. Our waiter was Soldier. A very knowledgeable and courteous service attendant. Thank you for making us feel welcome in your city, little did he know he was our first point of contact in the city apart from out Uber driver. You recommended the beat food and wine to us, we love everything about the restaurant BECAUSE of you. I hope the message gets to him.If you’re ever around CPT and looking for a relaxed space to enjoy amazing food, I highly recommend this restaurant.A BIG thank you to Jordan as well who saw us dragging huge luggage’s and offered to keep them for us at reception which allowed us to really enjoy the space and moment without having to worry about the bags, I consider this to be a true act of service on his part. The menu is a little pricey, but I’ll forgive because the service matched it in every way I could possibly imagine. I worked in hotels all my life and managed many of them, I would’ve been proud to have this brand on any of them.

A comedy of errors? Going by many reviews here, not the case. Servizio scioccante La Perla. Vergognatevi!!! (Shocking service La Perla. Shame on you!!!).You book and request an outside table (2 pax). Non are available they tell you, we are fully booked outside. When you walk in less than 10 min. later, you notice four open two seaters outside. After again requesting, we are seated outside. A complimentary bread basket and butter arrives very promptly. No napkins, no salt & pepper, no olive oil or balsamic. You place your order. A mere few minutes later your starter arrives with the mains. You request all the condiments and some extra chillie. Again all arrive promptly, but chillie comes minus a spoon. You again ask for serviettes or napkins. What follows is a juggling act to fit two plates and some bruschetta onto a miniscule two seater table. You find your calamari and vegetables are ice cold and although your side order of French fries are hot, it looks colourless, like it had skipped the fryer. Half embarrassed I send my plate back (a halfhearted apology followed from the waiter). A bowl of fresh French fries arrive, this time complete with an appetizing golden colour. By the time your calamari (the same plate) returns, it is searing hot from having been placed under a salamander, your partner already finished her meal. The bread was lovely and the food was of an acceptable quality and very tasty. I personally do not like large portions, but these were small for Cape Town standards. This establishment requires a serious wake-up call. No matter how good the food, I for one prefer to spend my hard earned money where the basics are done right. Thankfully the Cape Town restaurant scene is very competitive and there are loads of choices. There is a reason why Il Leone, Magica Roma and A Tavola reign supreme as Italian establishments, whilst La Perla is merely a shadow of its former self when it reigned supreme in the 80s and 90s .
