Always superb. The team here is extremely knowledgeable about pretty much anything you may need and, equally important, happy to take the time to listen, discuss and help. The price is great and if they dont have what you need, they most likely know where to get it. These kinds of stores are a rarity these days and deserve our support!

I was planning to exchange a lock as I didnt have any key for it. I went to Observatory (in Cape Town), Lower Main Road, and asked (I guess) one of the owners if they have such a lock. After questioning a few facts he asked if I am happy with new keys for it. Searching for about 5 minutes he started to open the lock, investigating whats wrong. He managed to repair the locks, oiled it, put the pieces together and sold me 2 keys.Seriously, this service was amazing. It is not the first time that I go in and the guys behind the counter are friendly and very helpful.This is really an exceptional example why the support of the local businesses is very important !

A great little hardware store bang in the middle of Observatory. They have been around for longer than I have! I love the staff and deeply appreciate the fact that an old traditional outlet can still survive in a world of mega franchises and warehouse style hardware suppliers. Long live Hawkes and Findley.

Hawkes and Findlay is most definitely a landmark in Observatory, it has a Friendly staff helofull, and almost always has what you are looking for, another shop that I know will be around for many, many, more years .It the kind of Hardware where everyone knows your name, it was there before franchise and it eill still be there long after.

This has been a family business in Obs for as long as I have been alive. My Dad who could work wonders with his hands doing carpentry, welding steel, and other handyman jobs always said, they might be a little more expensive, but guaranteed you will always find what you are looking for. The slight bit extra is a savings rather than spend large amount in wasted fuel and time trying to source what you are looking for elsewhere.Staff are extremely knowledgeable and will go the extra mile to assist you, with their product knoweledge.

I find this place entirely sexist. Only buy from them when Im low on time and desperate. The one assistant always leers at me and I cant go one trip without someone making a comment about what Im buying, who Im with, what Im wearing. They always mansplain even though I know what I want and why. Yesterday I asked for screws and they giggled like schoolgirls because Im a woman asking for a screw. Pathetic. These are adult men. They need to behave like professionals if they want to stay relevant.
