I just returned from JHB and while I was there someone asked me to assist them with purchasing fishing tackle, was I shocked at there prices I gave my tackle to the angler at the price I paid form them at Russells and I have no regrets, having to replace my tackle I know i have always got the best tackle from Russell at the most competitive prices ever so in a way it is a win win story that guy got a bargain and I get new tackle.

As someone looking to get into fishing, I tried calling this place for an estimate on a price for a first time rod and kit. To my surprise I was met with lots of questions which I have absolutely no idea how to answer... sure, thats my lack of experience, but I made it clear that I dont know much about fishing. I said I wanted a 12ft rod preferably made of fibreglass. The person I spoke to just continued asking me about the kind of sinkers etc. I plan on using. Again, I said I havent done any fishing yet so I dont know. I asked for recommendations again and was just given, what was in my view, sarcastic answers.Now guys, Im happy that you guys have all this technical knowledge (because thats something no one at places like Sportmans warehouse seems to have).. but if you cant recommend anything to anyone unless they know what they need, you might as well appoint anyone who knows how to work a cash register (just like Sportmans Warehouse).Not everyone knows the difference between this rod and that sinker, this bait and that hook.This is also very disappointing considering you guys were recommended to me by everyone I asked as a great place for the first time buyer.

I purchased my first (salt water) rod at Russells Angling about 6 years ago and to this day I havent purchased a single replacement rod or replacement reel. Excellent, helpful and genuine service with a smile is all Ive known from this little niche of a shop. Both the owner and his son are quite knowledgeable and have assisted me quite regularly even in their busy period.Thanks for the awesome quality and affordable stock you guys sell, the friendly service and help for someone who still considers himself a novice after 8 years of being an angler.

Stay away from Blue Marlin fishing rods ! Had 2 break on me , one of them was actually my fault but the 2nd one broke on the 3rd time fishing with it. the rod broke out of the insert where it goes into the socketThe Rod was properly seated and after casting a plug for about an hour it broke out. Blue Marlin is the worst when honouring warranties, they say according to Russell that I did not seat the rod in properly and they are not going to replace my rod neither get a refund. I have handled many fishing rod brands but honestly Blue Marlin is just Junk !!!!!

Wont recommend buying fish rods here i bought 3 rods from this guy and all three broke within a couple of days then he has this no slip no refund policy and even if you have the slip he try and fix the rod not replace it.Otherwise he mis match the rod take a tip from a totally different make and model rod and put it on yours.
