This is one of the best Checkers I’ve been to, but I still think there’s a lot of room for improvement. Staff need customer service training - currently no “hello” or acknowledgement at the tills and the handling of customer requests is quite poor. Items are often not labelled with the correct item-price or the price is not the one that comes up when it gets rung up at the till. You should always check the items for the sell-by date. Items are sometimes past or on the date of expiry - especially the meats. The check out queues can be quite long, and the space you have to move between tills is quite tight. The staff tend to chat to each other, which is fine, but it’s also important to help the customers waiting. Overall, I think there are a lot of issues that likely stem back to management and overall quality standards within Shoprite (the parent company) itself.

Hey Checkers, why don’t you sell reusable bags like every other store in this country? You’re charging and giving away plastic bags, making money off of people and waltzing around like we’re not in a major plastic crisis.Euw.

I went to this store today just to grab a few essentials. Horrible horrible horrrrrible experience. the isles are so narrow that you are constantly in someones way. the employees restocking the shelves take up an entire isle and make it impossible for you to pass, people and employees practically push past you and dont even say excuse me or anything polite, there are people begging in the store asking you to buy them their groceries (I can barely afford the 1 bag I can buy for myself for the week). I couldnt locate anything as the layout in there is shocking, half the lights dont even work and the employees couldnt even help me find where anything was. Honestly I will never be going back there and I will advise people not to choose that checkers if they can. people were rude and I felt so claustrophobic in there, felt like everyone was on top of me. there is no cohesive layout for the store to follow and everyone is going every which way to get anything. the pay tills are a whole other story, the queue to pay is a mess as they go into/ down the isles of food, there needs to be a proper layout for that as its confusing not to mention I was behind 1 person and it took about 15 minutes for him to buy his 4 items (very slow) when the store was also quite busy and I wanted to buy only 3 things myself. All round the worst grocery store experience I have ever had.only gave a 1 star because i felt bad but the store deserves no stars.

Very helpful staff and managers. I couldnt get an item that I was looking for and I was redirected to another Checkers store and provided with the managers details. I must commend Yongama for his assistance. Good service.

Noisy staff almost always talking to each other whilst serving, giving attitude to customers occasionally. Has a big range of products compared to some other local supermarkets. Not a good place to purchase fresh fish in my opinion. Great kosher section though. Sometimes good deals. Often busy.

Fed up with Checkers. The fresh fruit/veg is often rotten, prices are missing from things, old prices mixed with new ones and they won’t give you the cheaper option. The staff are poorly trained- if at all- in customer service, the check out it a disaster with the exit doors blocking your way plus they 15 people standing around to pack your bags. It’s just become a complete nightmare to shop here.

Checkers is my favorite place to shop but absolutely not this checkers!! It was a nightmare going here. They didnt have spinach or mushrooms. I had 2 employees push in front of me without so much as an excuse me. The employees couldnt help me locate anything not that they cared. When I asked them I felt as though I was inconveniencing them even though thats there job. One employee was chatting on her cell phone. A beggar was asking me to buy his groceries. It was filthy dirty. I felt gross when I left and took a shower as soon as I got home. Honestly the experience left me in a horrible mood as soon as I got in the car and I WILL NEVER GO BACK!! EVEN IF YOU PAYED ME!! STEP YOUR GAME UP!!! SHOCKING!!!

Im moving to Sea Point just for the Checkers! Have the best padkos selection, super nice bakery, Kosher & non-kosher food and efficient service. Love shopping here when I can!

Pathetic customer service. The other day had to stand about 2 minutes to be helped while the staff were busy chatting and today I finished removing my groceries from the trolley and put them on the counter, the cashier couldnt even noticed that there was a customer.

Had very bad experience here. Purchased some calamari on behalf of a coworker at the Deli. Lady by the name of Pinky assisted me. She completely disrespected the 2 ladies in line before me didnt greet them and did not take their order well. She didnt once make eye contact and didnt say thank you.When it was my turn she made no eye contact again and just said next looking down at the food. I greeted her good afternoon... nothing... gave her the order and she got it wrong. She didnt say thank you or nothing... only when I turned back to ask her name did she look at me in shock.Really Bad Checkers!!!!. I am not a deli client myself but would not recommend this to even a dog.You need to train your staff better. I wish I could give a minus 5 rating.

I was in Checkers yesterday standing in a queue at the till, when the person in front of me decided to go off, can only assume to do more shopping. I was about to go to the till when suddenly this person came back with a colleague this time and pushed right in front of me and they were being served, I did say to them you cant just push in like that, he totally ignored me, so much for manners. I went to who I assumed were management at the time to say that these two individuals pushed in front of me, only to be laughed at by all who stood there and was abruptly told go to another till!! What sort of management is running this place?Surely it cant be acceptable for people to think they can push in when in a queue and then when you complain you get told to queue somewhere else and to use another till.....terrible customer service!!Now I can add that I saw the manager today to explain the situation, he said he will have a look at the in store cameras? I have my receipt which shows a time of 09.33, so any time from 09.00 onwards you will be able to see on the cameras the incident relating to the above, thats if they bother to check of course!!

The meat I buy from here is off more often than it isnt, even the processed stuff like bacon. Save yourself the money and get your meat elsewhere

This Checkers deserves 0 stars, how you have 4 stars is beyond me!Walked in this morning behind another Checkers employee, she walked straight in past the security and did not even sanitize yet security stopped me dead in my tracks wanting to spray my hands.My fruit bought on Monday has already gone off, apples and pears probably from 3 months ago as fresh fruit easily last me a month in my home.Asked for cigarettes at the express counter only for the teller to slam her hand on her cash register and tell me if I want cigarettes I should go to the cigarette counter and pay.Lastly I had a R100 voucher, what I bought came to R89.70, the teller told me I had to use the whole R100, I then pulled a pack of sweets from the isle and my amount was then R98.30. The teller told me again I have to use the R100, after telling her I dont want the change she told me I had to buy something for R1.70, I then asked if she could kindly find me something for that price and she refused. I then bought another packet of sweets in the isle and had to ask the person behind me to please give me R4 as I was R4 over my voucher amount and had no cash on me.Seems the teller got a real kick out of it.The service gets worse and worse and worse and as I am an avid Checkers shopper this is by far the WORST Checkers I have ever been too.

For many years we shop at Checkers. Now for the first time when we walked into the store the security guard requested that my partner had to take his cap off. My friend refused to. We are always wearing caps, never had to take them off before and also other people in the store were wearing caps. Then this guard had the nerve to insult him shouting You f...... moffie!. So much for Checkers corporate ethics and governance

The worst customer service I have ever come across. Staff are rude and unhelpful. I shop here on a daily basis and every day is the same. It’s like they just don’t care about their customers. You can also never find a manager or supervisor on the floor. Half the shop products don’t have prices and shelves are never stocked properly. What are you people running here? A spassa shop? This is so bad from a business point of view

Im so disappointed 2dys ago l bought 5months expired 2ltre pure fresh 100% juice. I wonder why selling expired goods, it is my second time this happening.

Theres not a day I dont come here, the staff are efficient and the stock is good too. Their bakery is really good at what they do. I practically live here, because its so close to were I work. They have a wide variety of stock, and the staff do s great job at keeping the supermarket clean. They have many cashiers which is great because you dont have to stand in line for a long time

Your soul may die waiting in the queue for hot food or to pay at the tills. Cashiers and staff play this fun game of ignore the customer with their best blue steel look, already perfected by the deli counter assistants. Staff block customers paths in the aisles with a variety of body blocking moves, all while gossiping with co workers and randomly leaving trolleys of stock at random points, just to check your reflexes and reaction time, of course . If you can deal with this curious mix of customer service and fitness training, this is the store for you 🤦‍♀️

Shocking and ridiculous use of plastic packaging on fruit and veg. Bunches of spinach are wrapped in plastic, as well as bananas. Nectarines are in a polystyrene tray. Come on Checkers, change your outdated thinking and do something to protect our planet from the scourge of plastic.

Not the average Checkers. The Sea Point store even though it is not newly renovated can be rated as a flagship store. The Kosher range is phenomenal and varied. Well worth the visit.

Price gouging is a term referring to when a seller spikes the prices of goods, services or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair, and is considered exploitative, potentially to an unethical extent.This store is at best average in terms of quality and selection, but charges double the going rate on several items. If you are going to ask more, provide more.

Always end up buying more than I plan to when visiting this store. Food is so yummy and fruit and vegetables look fantastic in their layout and freshness. Deli has delicious food and such a good variety without being too big. Tills move at a decent speed considering the popularity as well. Great work

The best grocery store if youre staying in this area. Nice food choices, including several low-carb options, which were a pleasant surprise. Clean. Neat displays. Many healthy food choices. Our favourite by far.

I shop at the store daily.Stock on shelves is always decent.Every since they renovated, the customer service drops daily. Cashiers are unfriendly and always arguing with the management in front of customers.Front of house supervisors are seldom supervising. Cashiers do their utmost to work as slowly as possible and make customers pack their own bags with lack of packers.Don’t mind walking a few meters further to Spar where the staff is much friendlier.

The store is great and well stocked and in a very central, clean and accessible location. There is also ample basement parking in the building with elevators and escalators. Its also easily accessible via public transport with a MyCiti bus stop just by the entrance to the centre.The only negative this is the staff (cashiers) are quite rude and seemingly uninterested in the work.

Great shop but took 25 mins to get out of the place! Paystation does not take cards. So I had to go back up from B3 to second floor to draw cash. Back at B3, my R100 was too large a note for the machine to handle! Still not sorted, had to go get a coffee to get smaller change to pay to finally get out. Frustrating experience.

I love your supermarket. Well stocked and fresh. However, with sadness, i doubt I will be shopping there again. This is due to the consistent problems on engaging (or non engaging on their part,) with your staff. While I acknowledge that I do not know the cause of their apparent depressed state, to be met with a blank stare on greeting them causes a major negative reaction in me. At other times, they dont bother to look at me. There have been times that Ive arrived at the till, only to wait while the teller completes an obviously private conversation with the next teller. Today I smiled and greeted the lady at the ticket office. I not only received no greeting or smile in return, the entire process was met with utter boredom and irritation. It appeared to be all too much for her. I walked into Checkers in a fabulous mood. I walked out feeling terrible.

Good selection of fresh produce, meat and the usual groceries. Also has a pharmacy inside. Can be much better if they had a single queue system like the Woolies and Spar down the road... It gets crazy busy.

Since I was young Ive always been coming here as its in close proximity for me and offers everything I need. Great management with everything you need under one roof. Clean, well run and a general feel of pride from the management. 5 out of 5 from the good old days up to the current renevations. Big up.

I was pretty gobsmacked to see the baker in the back using her bare hands to put/throw icing on top of the cakes which she obtained from a large container on the floor. No gloves! With ecoli everywhere and general hygiene in mind I was pretty shocked to say the least. The lady serving bread and rolls in the front wore plastic gloves and used tongs.

Great shopping! We didnt there almost every day on our 2 week holiday. All fruits, fish, meat, and ready to eat hot meals!

I called Pick n Pay Waterfront and asked to speak to someone in the Fish Section and waited for more than 10 min without assistance. I eventually had to put the phone down. Is this the way loyal Pick n Pay shopper get treated. Absolutely disgusted.

Today this morning was told to remove my cap before I went in the point mall have been using this more for eight years before it was call point none of this has happened, was told its a new law of the mall but before doing that saw a lot of customers inside had their caps on I had to refuse and went to shoprite in seapoint just close to Point mall my 7 year daughter asked me why dad u cant go in I tell her never mind about it was so balancing

My favourite shop. It provides the full range of Kosher groceries, the fruits and veggies are of a good quality and of very competitive pricing.

Rude service from both the tellers and managers.Customer service is a foreign concept to them.They have no idea what they are selling, and each say a different thing.If we didnt have a trolley full, would have walked out.Will never go back.Dissapointed because the products are good.

Price Not PaidToday, 22 July 2019, we were looking at Burger Pies and it was displayed for R19.99, however each burger pie was charged at R21.99, I kindly explained to both the Hot Food assistance and their chef that if an item is displayed for X amount, this should be honored for the customer.We were advised we need to seek help from a manager. Once we arrived at the till, the cashier called over another cashier, whim bluntly told us we were lying about the price issue and that it indeed R21.99.I asked to speak to a manager; a trainer manager came over, bluntly ignored the issue and pointed out that we were in fact lying about the price issue. When asked for an e-mail address, the trainer manager threw a bag at me and said take a photo and go complain.Nobody minds paying the difference, but adhere to Consumer Rights, if this is the type of treatment that one gets, I am sorry; but I hope that more people boikot your shop.Being humiliated in-front of other customers is so DOWNGRADING. I will be escalating this to not only HQ. but to newspapers as-well, since I feel like this was also based on race.

The recent upgrade offers an appealing aesthetic appearance all the while offering a delightful diversification of offerings such as a bakery, food counters amongst other speciality mini sections in the store. It also is the best place in Cape Town to get some ready made kosher meals.

Rude cashiers, pleasant floor staff, harassed managers, overcrowded on school holidays - but you can buy most of the things you ever need to live on (food and other) at good prices. I visit this Checkers almost everyday. Service at this place is horrible! Cashiers are slow and often on their phones causing you to wait till they finish their messages. They will also finish their conversations with coworkers first before helping customers. They are also rude. I recently ordered some platters for our gilrs birthday party, and when i went to pick them up there was a lot of confusion and basically they were not ready.The management took my details and personally delivered to the party venue.Yes they messed up, but they made up with a great discount and a personal apology.I really apprecited the effort to resure the situation.And btw the platter where delicious.

I just dont get the staffs attitude at this store. Ive never experienced such hostility in checkers like i do at checkers sea point. I cant remember when last I have gone in this shop and had a good experience. Staff from the back to the frontend is so sour. Your mood immediately takes a hit as soon as you enter the store
