Came here and try their winter special menu. Started off with the very crispy and creamy Arancini balls. The leak and potato soup was really delicious. The shellfish tortellini was a freaking star! I would come back just for this. The line fish was light and flakey! The service was amazing. They were very good about my allergies. Very thoughtful in their presentation. The interior design is just stunning and romantic. Great for a girls night or date!

Really enjoyable cozy but trendy atmosphere, attentive staff and great food and wine.A real treat to try among so many great restaurants in Cape Town. For some the limited menu may be less attractive. They do check for dietary needs - I was able to choose alternative items that didnt require changed from the menu but I am sure dishes can be adapted should it be necessary. No complaints from us but maybe important to note its not wheelchair friendly as there is a steep set of stairs up from the road

Matt Manning started the Restaurant Rescue project so I had been looking forward to visiting forever. The wine list Grub&Vine has is extensive and curated excellently if you are a discerning wine drinker. The tasting menu was elegantly put together and executed with such finesse. The beetroot and chèvre went together so well, but the ham hock roulades with fig and date was out of this world. It is a lovely setting and we mopped up jus so marvelous with the lamb we wished we could sneak our plates out for a lick. Pity to be civilised sometimes. I treated my cousin for her birthday and she especially enjoyed the fish. I am not a huge fan of dessert but Grub & Vine left me with no regrets. They also have a lovely cheese plate.

Had lunch (Restaurant Week special 4-course lunch). Overall was very good but lacked seasoning badly. The kitchen ventilation was not functioning well (open kitchen). The dining room decoration is ok, nothing special. The reason for the 4 stars is that this is a 4-course lunch which is advertised at R395 except that the restaurant changed the starter and added R105. You only notice that when you get the bill.... Not a pleasant surprise. The beetroot starter was ok but not very tasty. Last but not least, the 1st course is actually a small amuse bouche (a small risotto croquette). The scallops and line fish were very good

Seriously one of the best meals I’ve ever had and I don’t say that lightly. The 5 course meal option was literally perfect, paired with an out-of-this-world wine selection. The dishes were nothing short of art, and were completely unique in their flavour combinations and arrangements.Their use of local products and foods was magnificent, and allowed for a beautiful exploration of the local legends in the South African wine, cheese, meat and produce scene. They were also just so exceptionally accommodating and lovely. Their detailed explanations of everything from the choice of wine to the creation process used in the featured cheeses and meats was like having a dinner, wine tasting, and culinary class all in one.Bravo!!

It is a great stay at home date idea for cooking enthusiasts! The instructions and videos made it super interactive and easy to follow, even for two relative fine dining novices. many of the dishes were things wed never prepared before, and we managed without any trouble. Theres a unique sense of pride that comes from preparing the food yourself and plating it beautifully, especially when it is dishes like these. The food was absolutely delicious and easy to work with. The flavours, textures and combinations were fantastic and so much fun to try at home. My personal favourites were the pan roasted duck breast main and the rainbow trout amuse bouche.I would thoroughly recommend this to any cooking enthusiast or couple who likes the kitchen!

If you want to be sick for 2 days, go to that restaurant. Out of 6 persons, 4 of us were gravely ill. We suspect either poor hygiene in the kitchen or food kept too long during lockdown. The meals are not cheap and the choices were quite limited. Not being able to deliver top quality and safe meals at these prices is criminal. Don’t go or recommend this place to people you care for.Your reply is pretty unbelievable! Not only you do not take responsibility for your actions but you threaten me after poisoning 5 of your customers. You called me not to apologize but only to try to disculpe you because you are afraid of my review’s impact! My family was in the restaurant business for decades, I have traveled the world and ate in many places but never have I encountered someone so dishonest. You mentioned we could have caught a bacteria on a door knob or some other BS like that. Since in Cape Town, we ate in a few places and even ordered oysters and never experienced any issues. Only after eating in your restaurant, we were gravely ill to the point of being taken to the hospital. You obviously do not care and should not be in this line of business. You may get away in this country but it won’t last long and you will eventually pay for your poor ethics. And by the way, my name is Norbert but it’s obvious that you don’t care about that either. You are very lucky not to be in the USA because you would have a lawsuit on your back in no time.

Virtual dining by Matt ManningWe had so much fun making and enjoying Matt’s virtual 5 course meal at home. Just some reasons why this is the perfect valentines/anniversary/birthday dinner in the current lockdown situation:- we could pair the incredible meal with a wonderful South African Chenin- very social distancing friendly since you make the meal at home- it is so much fun! We had a little competition on who could plate each meal the prettiest and we had some great laughs and friendly banter.- Chef Matt’s instructions are clear, easy to follow and the most difficult and important parts of each course are already done for you. Each of our courses tasted way beyond our expectations (and it definitely was not due to OUR cooking skills)It’s not just a sit down meal, it’s a whole experience which creates the best memories.

Go for 3 or 4 dishes each, you wont regret it, and wine by the glass so you can sample a couple. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu. The broccoli is out of this world, as well as the line fish and the lamb. Complimentary arancini always a pleasure. Atmosphere is cosy and intimate, set in the upstairs of an old high-ceilinged building. Time flies when you’re having fun. Or living through a pandemic. It feels like both yonks ago and last week that we visited @grubandvine . (It was 3 weeks ago, to be precise.)This is a very trendy spot that was just getting momentum as lockdown hit last year. Vocal and active right throughout stupid restrictions and alcohol bans, captain of the ship, @mattmanningchef not only managed to save his restaurant, he saved a lot of others with his Restaurant Rescue project. And he’s back in his kitchen, with a vengance.I really love chef owned and operated restaurants and, of all the warm welcomes we received, Matt’s was the warmest. Sets a great tone for a fantastic experience. The space is beautiful and I felt transported to another part of the world, even just for the night. I loved that they are Covid compliant with lots of ventilation and social distancing. And I loved the personal, slick service.Matt almost swayed us into a tomahawk special (which we have to come back for) but we opted for the 5 course tasting menu (with additional oysters because I cannot help myself). Each dish was a knock out. Special mention to the chicken liver parfait, the scallops and the lamb neck (and of course, the oysters. )The wine list is nothing short of excellent. Balanced with selections across price points, a few well known ones and some interesting lesser known wines. I had serious option anxiety, and therefore left the choice up to @the_burgernator78 , who selected a gorgeous Bordeaux blend (Raats Jasper red blend 2017).We had pre drinks at his wine bar @culturewinebar next door (colab with @pounding_grape ) where we had a lovely cincault (usually not my favourite). We’ll be back here too, especially for their wine events. Also, check out @chefsstudioct where Matt hosts cookalong events (and other chefs’ cookalongs and master classes).Look, keeping our particular wine selection and additional oysters in mind, the outing here isn’t cheap. But it was for us a night of escape and I really cannot put a price on the value of the buzz I felt for days afterwards.I’ll be back for that tomahawk, still.

Vegetarians run for your life! This restaurant is beautiful, has amazing staff and a great vibe. However as a Vegetarian I was deeply disappointed, my meal had 3 different types of leaves, 4 broccoli sprouts and 3 crumbs of cheese and this was my main. My meat eating counterparts to match this would receive hake and mussels with a plate beautifully filled with garnishing, a full meal. My main looked like their extra salad on the side and we would be paying the same price. I asked before placing my order would this suffice as a main and was met with a roaring yes. This was not true. I did not go to this restaurant out of ignorance, I researched and read the menu prior knowing exactly what I would eat. Only to arrive to be informed that the menu changes on any given day and the website had not been updated. I was so upset I could not stay for the dessert. I left and ended my night eating pizza on my couch. Definitely not going back.

Grub & Vine .... old location... new style and new chef... all ingredients to create success... but There is a great sommelier who performs very well The chef and owner spends most of his time sitting at his table and chatting with friends .... The food is great if you get some ... but after two hours we just had our starters and with eight people in the kitchen and the chef chatting with his friends we are starving.... so either the chef gets his butts up and works or the place will end like the restaurant which was there beforeSo ... as a result of our review, Matt called and tried to explain the background for this, actually himself trying to prepare for leaving the country to marry his future wife. A venue which is for most people a once in a life experience. We explained to him that there is no need to hide an that all guest would more than welcome any difficulties due to this event as long as they would know about it... In an impressive attitude, open for any input or critics, he appreciated the remarks and we are sure the team will reflect these to further grow in their dialogue with guests. As the food is already outstanding, the venue at a central point, a more interactive involvement of guest will surely make any experience even more positive. we are looking forward to see Matt and his team develop to further successes....good luck A&T
