Another delicious treat at Things I Love. The friendly staff great you as if they see you every day and the service is quick. Today we feasted on scones. The scone was warm, crisp and light and fluffy inside. In other words... perfect. Served with butter, jam and cheese. Accompanied by a great tasting cappuccino. They also have a downstairs antique shop, just ask. Pop in to check for yourself.
Things I Love received us with a delicious ice coffee and a refreshing glass of water on an especially hot day (spending hours on a motorbike) They were able to accommodate us with with a wholesome vegetarian lunch, with fresh veggies and the most amazing bread Ive had in a while. (They made this for us on the spot as they dont have that many veggie options on their regular menu)The staff were so friendly, professional and ready to help, the atmosphere light and chill. We sat outside on the balcony while enjoying the ice cold drinks under an umbrella.I will definitely make the trip to Tulbagh again just to pop in and enjoy a meal here!
Old world charm, homely atmosphere, excellent food, friendly service. All sorts of antique crockery, cutlery and hand crafted embroidery on sale. An uncommonly wide selection of delicatessen, wines and beverages from the region. Set in an idyllic atmosphere on the historic Church Street in Tulbach, restored after the devastating 1969 earthquake. Also wheelchair access on Van DerStel Street. I am adding a few photos of the historical Church Street.
After a hard day of wine tasting, we needed a late lunch before heading back. Not knowing much about Tulbagh, the name drew us into this quaint little country restaurant. Judging by this review, you can see the food was to good to stop for photos, but believe me the beef burger was really very good. Other guests tried the parma ham pasta and raved as much. Generous portions, generously priced and friendly staff, I can see why the locals frequent this place.
My reason for the five star is.... Its a really amazing place, genuine hospitality, friendly atmosphere and friendly service that you would enjoy and would love to have wherever you go. At first it would seem as if you were in the wrong place for a meal. As it has a store front look but you will be wowed with the amazing homely layout behind the scenes. Definitely a must try. My favorite and highly recommended.
Lovely atmosphere, great food and friendly staff.
Service was friendly and a nice spot for coffee... But R32 for a double espresso (I own a coffee shop, and even that is steep)? No milk alternatives (only full cream milk) for frothed drinks? And fresh juice that was so sweet it seems to be out a can? All can be forgiven, but maybe a change of menu to include alternative lifestyles... The times are changing after all.
Visited this place a few times now . Slow service. No sugar free drinks available on two occasions now . food was cold. steak had to be redone.wont be returning.
This became one of my favourite places! I took my girlfriend here for lunch and wow were we spoilt! Their chocolate milkshakes are made with proper Belgium chocolate. Their burgers are next level! And the rosemary potato wedges were so amazing! Its a quiet lovely setting definitely worth a Sunday drive out!
Absolutely love this place. They were able to accommodate us for lunch on a Sunday after 15h00. We had been to so many places they wouldnt take us. Chicken burger was slightly over cooked. The pasta dish was delicious. And the kids pasta was gobbled up quick quick
Really nice lunches and equally nice ladies running a clean and friendly shop. I enjoy the vibe and the Buchanan beers alike! Thanks and keep it up!
Delicious food, homemade fresh breads, great service and the homemade mayo was heavenly ❤️
I really enjoy every visit here. The food is consistently great Everything on the menu is worth trying. Service is good but you do wait a while for the food. Beautiful garden setting and nice staff. Great little deli with home mades. Will be back.
Great place for a quick lunch. Also offers the most amazing home made sweets and baked goods. Really a treat coming here so much you want to buy and eat. Old world charm.
Friendly staff, good country food. Nice place to stop for coffee/tea and scones while you do the scenic drive through Tulbagh.
Hidden gem for actually very good coffee and good bakes.Very gracious with their portions and it is dog friendly!
Cute coffee shop, however the food didnt quite meet the standards, with a very limited menu
Bestesthurst place in Tulbach
Small menu ..very hot Inside needs a new menu and more options the coffee was good
Lovely dining experience. Had a great meal and the service is homely and warm. Will definitely be returning
I remember years ago being taken to this place by my then girlfriend. We had coffee, delicious coffee, and spoke for hours by the happily burning logfire inside. We ate croissants, spoke about eternity and steadily kept falling more and more in love... Aptly named, gracefully kept, historically important, quality food and service and most importantly, Things I Love
Fantastic burger, wedges and generous side salad. Great relaxing setting and sweet staff. What more could you ask for from a country restaurant.
As the name said... Things I love... Its just great there
This is a small venue with a country like feel. I liked the venue. The food took some time to be served but it was freshly made.I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and the interior has an interesting, retro feel with a nice fireplace contributing to the atmosphere.
Wow what a surprise, tucked away in Tulbach this cafe turned out to be the highlight of the day. Dont pass through without visiting Things I Love. Thank you for a wonderful desert. 💕
The welcome by staff was good then things went downhill. Food took in excess of 40 minutes to be done, at which point we were late for our appointment. Had to carry our order as a take away around the city on a cultural tour. From the famous Church Street end the place looks to have potential with the views, they just have to improve on speed.
Beautiful shop and Awesome helpful staff, the scones are fantastic 😁and the antiques makes it even more special
Will not return! Ordered 300ml soft drink, got 200ml. Pancakes were raw or microwaved, the worst I have ever eaten!
Beautiful place. Great coffee (thats all I had).
Great breakfast. We enjoyed freshly baked scones with strawberry jam and cream, and amaxing rooibostee.
It was Absolutley fantastic I would surely go and eat there again and wow the staff is so friendly thanx it was very awesome
What a lovely little restaurant in Tulbagh main road! Miele and Ula are such friendly and accommodating hosts, which makes the atmosphere warm and welcoming. We have been there for breakfast a few times and had positive experiences every time, so decided to have our wedding breakfast there the day after our wedding. Everyone had a great time and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. We had a wonderful morning celebrating together. Thank you “Things I love”! I hope many more people get to experience your wonderful hospitality and yummy food! ❤️
Boutique cafe-style restaurant situated amid all things antique. Shop while you eat. Very exclusive. Some paintings over 100 years old. Lovely little gift shop too. Costly for a local shopper. Very friendly staff, but service a little slow on a Sunday.
Nice place but very pricey
Waited too long , more than 30 minutes, for our food. We were the 3rd couple to arrive. Food was good though. But not the place to eat if you want a quick bite
What a lovely place! great for a morning coffee, lunch or dinner. Food is always good, staff friendly and attentive. Recommended
Very nice breakfast. Friendly and competent staff.
Wonderful hidden gem. Awesome cheese platter. Great homemade burgers!
We had excellent chicken filled pancakes with fresh salad for R75. Check the daily specials. Seating is provided on the veranda, indoors and on a balcony overlooking the garden. Excellent double espresso and red cappuccino.
Tasty butternut soup, lovely prawn spring rolls, warm with fire going, helpful friendly people
Great food and great service
Antiques, food, beer and wine for sale. Table waiting is laid back. Limited menu. Fairly expensive.
Great little eatery with lots of goodies to buy including vintage items of clothing , homemade jams , crockery and pottery.
Lovely!!!! Excellent setting garden restaurant. Great menu and a lovely waitress who served us with patience.
Beautiful and cosy placeVery nice place for food
Had a great lunch, nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Very good value for money. Gourmet sandwich really nice
Lovely place with very warm and friendly service. Good menu selection.
Slow service at the restaurant. On the upside: you can buy fresh bread at the adjacent cafè, to eat while waiting for your meal :-). The platters are good value & staff are friendly.
Just a must visit. Great scones.
Although the menu is small, the food and service were amazing. They live up to their name of Things I Love.
Great food, good service, deli a bit pricy
Friendly service. Good food. Beautiful area.
Such a lovely small town restaurant, with excellent food and prices; and the added bonus of beautiful antiques for sale.
Please change the name to Things I Hate. Avoid at all cost. Breakfast was gross, the eggs will give you salmonella.
Such a joy! Great atmosphere and lovely menu!
We waited for about 90 minutes for our meals. Furthermore the vegetarian burger (a special of the day) was badly burnt - chef had tried to hide this by smothering it with cheese. Completely unacceptable
Lovely venue, friendly staff, quick service and the lunch was fantastic
Amazing food , friendly staff and lovely country atmosphere
I decided to ignore the comments about food taking long thinking maybe the food would be worth the wait, but no food is worth waiting for close to an hour for, by the time it came we were late for another appointment and asked to have it packed as takeaway, food was bland, no salt satchets, no cutlery, goes down as the worst experience in Tulbagh, waste of money
Unfortunately we cannot recommend this place unless you have plenty of time and are ok with self-service. This was one of the worst services I ever experienced!Positive observations:- Nice seating and relaxed atmosphere- Included shop is nice, especially to cover time when waiting for your foodNegative observations:- Tables dirty with dishes when we arrived, not only one but all that were free on the balcony- No menus were offered to us, we needed to get them ourselves after 10 minutes- 10 minutes later No one came to take our order. We finally went to the desk to order- It took them 35 minutes to bring our drinks (3 flat whites and soda, so nothing difficult to prepare)- When bringing the drinks we asked how long the food will take. We were told that the waitress will ask. Nothing ever happened- When asking a second time (now after an hour) the waitress wanted to confirm our order again- 90 minutes later still no food!!! We asked again and still had the feeling that the even did not start preparing it!We would come back if the service increased tremendously.
Nice old building. Good ok
Took so long to get served our food that we nearly got up and walked out and the restaurant was about two thirds empty. Food was average - we all had burgers but no pickles as stated on the menu and burgers were overdone to the point of tasting slightly charred.
Great food and service - Peaceful atmosphere
Excellent coffee and service
Terrible. Pasta was over cooked and completely bland. Service is super slow.
Breakfast is amazing. Baked bread melts in ones mouth
Lovely setting, beautiful decor. Food was a bit slow and not fantastic but fine for a casual lunch
Cute little place. Great for a lunch in their backyard.
Good food
An olde world restaurant with comfy furniture and pictures from grannys home and the food was excellent.
Pretty average little restaurant and coffee shop with some interesting pieces of bric-a-brac for sale.
My wife had a chicken mayo sandwich and I had a gourmet burger... except for waiting about 40 minutes for our food my burger was a bit dry...
One of Tulbaghs gems this restaurant/shop offers a little something for everyone, from craft beers to cakes, ornaments and paintings. The food is worth the wait, expect to be there for a while as the service is a little slow.
Great place to for you and your family to stop by. Filled old things, great place for checking for a gift.
It is a really quaint place that offers a lovely break away from your normal routine. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Good and friendly service, good food
I have eaten at the restaurant twice once in Dec 2015 and then again in Dec 2017. Both occasions too many flies. Food not that good. The fly problem was so bad we had to keep swiping them away every couple of seconds.
Always warm, friendly and professional service. Delicious hamburgers!!
Amazing little Shop and Deli
Great food and interesting knick knacks....
Lovely lunch and visit.
Nice friendly restuarant will defnitley return to it in future
Excellent food and great atmosphere.
Best eatery we found in Tulbagh so far
Slowest service. Arrived at 10h30, ordered coffees, got them at 11h15. We were told that we couldnt order breakfast after 11! Ordered sandwiches and got them at noon... Went to have breakfast but wasted our morning there. Food was cold. Stay away.
Poor value for money for breakfast. Not presented well. Long wait. Food cold when arrived. Toast was served long after main plate. Waiter and waitress unfriendly.
Only one waiter so slow service. But food was good :)
