Excellent service from staff, amazing food. An overall beautiful dining experience

Always a pleasant experience visiting Maximillien. Great food and amazing staff! What more can one ask for!? The Saturday brunches are officially my favourite!

This is the place to be,this was real DATE NIGHT in all forms. The food,the live band. The set-up on the table was up to the theme.

What an amazing experience, the staff are remarkably friendly, the manager exceptionally service oriented and the chef was greatly skilled. We had such a great time and as a bonus this was not Sandton prices at all, our expectations were exceeded and we left knowing we had just been in a five star fine dining place. The place is so elegant and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place, amazing service and delicious food.

I visited The Leonardo accessible from both Nelson Mandela Square and Maude Street in Sandton, Johannesburg. The skyscraper building described as a Life-style building offering offices, apartments (which can be managed for the investor), bars, restaurants, shops, spa, fitness / wellness centre and ultra luxurious penthouses.This concept tower with the walls adorned by works of Art from local artists is more than impressive. It is owned by the Legacy Group who own the DaVinci where I stayed. This lifestyle conception of contemporary living in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa is super impressive although not completely finished. The hotel section of the building which when finished with boast 80 rooms has still to be finalised.However, if you wish to experience sybaritic concept living one can rent one of the apartments either short-term or long-term. There is a sky bar on the roof which is the highest bar in Africa, offering a wonderful night scape of Johannesburg and a Möet vending machine. I rate this five-star plus as life-style concept building and I am looking forward to the hotel section opening. Absolute kudos to those that conceived of this idea and I would like to congratulate the manager of this project (also the manager of 4 luxury hotels in Mandela Square area of Sandton) its absolutely well run and organised.

I was invited to try out the newly launched menu at Maximillien as there is a new Chef on the scene shaking things up!Chef Kalpesh Hansjee has come in and taken a new approach to dining, and changed the menu quite a bit with some new and uniquely bold flavours, inspired by the famous New York the place where all people want to be. He has quite an experienced background, and it was nice chatting to him and getting to know his thinking about his menu. The restaurant was rather full for a Tuesday evening, with some tunes playing in the background on the Piano, with its elegant setup for a chilled and relaxed evening.It was hard to choose meals, so i had to ask our waiter Julius for some of his favourites to see what tickles my fancy. So before deciding on meals, we decided to start the evening with a glass of Buitenverwachting - Buiten Blanc, while nibbling on the complimentary breads. For starters the New York Spicy Meatballs caught my eye, as i am always weary that the food is never spicy enough for me, and my friend had the interestingly named China Town Pork Steamed Buns. The meatballs were beyond impressive. It was juicy and tender, bursting with so much flavour soaking in the Chakalaka sauce, along with the bean salad, which also had a unique flavour profile contrasting the meatballs. The Portion size is also pretty generous too :-) The steamed buns, were soft and fluffy with the pork filling, and the Teriyaki dipping sauce complimented the buns perfectly.After a tremendous start to our meals in terms of flavour i.e. i didnt need to add salt or pepper or chilli to anything, i was eagerly awaiting my mains to see whether it lived up to the starters, and rightly so. For my mains, instead of going for the usual Steak at a restaurant like this (and believe me the Beef Tomahawk was calling my name), i was torn between the 2 Signature dishes of Butter Chicken Curry or Braised Beef Oxtail. The Oxtail with Pap and Morogo won me over, and my friend had the Parmesan and Pea Rissotto, with Prawns. The Oxtail, which is braised for 24hours was tender and full of flavour, it was even better when i mixed the pap with the Morogo and rolled it in the juices, it just made each bite even better. The Rissotto was tasty, a bit over powering with the Pesto, but a few squirts of lemon just helped to break the basil and mint pesto.As for dessert, this time i had to make space to give it a try. I went with their NY Baked Cheesecake, and my friend had the Signature dessert - The Big Apple. Wow guys, what an ending to a fantastic evening. The Cheesecake was plated with a citrus crumble, mixed berry compote, vanilla bean chantilly cream and a dried mint meringue. The dried mint meringue is really something else, you keep wanting more with each bite of the cheesecake. The Big Apple however, was more like a showstopper. We certainly didnt expect the simple yet stunning plating. It consisted of a spiced Apple compote with White Chocolate Mousse, on an Almond and Cinnamon sable and a delicious candied walnut crumble. It was satisfying in every bite, not too sweet, and the walnut crumble gave it that texture on your palette when scooping up a bit of everything.Maximillien also does a Meaty Monday which looks good. Beef Short Ribs and 2 sides with a complimentary Klipdrift & Coke or Devils Peak Lager for R189 per order. If i am not mistaken there is also a Seafood Friday, but best to check their social media for more details.Thanks to the entire team for fantastic service, and exquisite food. Classy place, bright with nice views and good service. Comfy sofa booth like spots. Menu with some interesting choices but very limited. Good wine list.

The mothers day lunch was a total let down from starter to dessert. The mussels for starter were dry, both the lamb and steak were overcooked and I wont mention the strawberry panna cotta which was not set. I have eaten better food at a funeral. We were really disappointed with the food and unfortunately it overclouded the beautiful live performance.

We enjoyed our stay in the hotel and the breakfast was super 👌

Must be one of the most Iconic restaurants in Jozi. Unique in every way. Sophisticated and caters to all your needs. Definitely a very romantic setting. But also hip and happening spot... Go spoil yourself and tell me how good it truly was....

Now here is a place that serves amazing food. It was a bit expensive but worth every penny. The food was amazing and the waiters were very professional, friendly and all. Big compliments to the chefs they know what they are doing. Thank you. ❤️❤️

Never fear when Warren is here!Most reviews will start with how the food was followed by the other stuff. Our experience was truly memorable simply because of Warrens hospitality. What a guy.The food and ambiance was amazing. I had life changing oxtail and my partner had the most succulent T-bone steak as Warrens recommendations.To top it off, our evening ended with a divinine special dessert and free hugs. Definitely recommend that your next special dinner should be here. You wont regret it.

Drinks bit pricy but food good

Date night at Maximillien last night. The menu was amazing. The food...So delicious and well prepared. I mentioned that it was our anniversary when I made the booking and received a table with rose petals. That was a very sweet touch to make our evening special.

Pathetic restaurant management. I bought a voucher for a client to enjoy a chefs table experience. When my customer tried to redeem, they said they no longer offered it. They then added further embarrassment to me but only allowing half the value of the voucher to be redeemed. When I called and spoke to Warren, he said they would refund me. To my disgust they even refunded less than the value that was not allowed. I would never go back there after so many years of loyalty, I have never felt so disgusted. Please take the balance of the money and buy yourselves some class.

Classy restaurant with tranquil ambience. The brunch buffet is delicious with the freshly baked dessert selection stealing the show......just above the bubbly champagne that keeps on flowing.

What a lovely time we had !Definitly to many pink Gins however we where cared for the whole evening , they even ordered us a hotel room as we didn’t want to drive back .My birthday surprise was out of this world and we loved the food !Thank you warren for giving us an excellent evening .

Worst fine dining experience. Mains were served 15 mins apart between my child receiving her mains and ours served. Pasta was under cooked and all elements of the dish was not served ... no sides and when I asked the waiter he returned 2mins later and apologized advising that they will fix it... fix what? ... after my family dinner has been ruined and meals have been eaten? Not looking for a free dessert when I choose to eat at this restaurant. Manager vanished into the kitchen after realizing the disastrous service. My advise .... choose McDonalds because even on their worst day their service and meals are 100% better than my experience this evening. Seriously though.... choose any other restaurant in Sandton and you shld be ok.

Difficult to find. Go in via Da Vinci Hotel in 5th Street. Classical dining experience. Live music. Not too loud. Cuisine leans towards traditional French. Two out three courses Very Good. Entree merely Good. Service very good without being intrusive. Pricey.Kidded with Maitred that we would not give a too good a review as we did not want the restuarant to becomde too busy and spoil our enjoyment.
