Spring visibly blooms in the lovely gardens at the Voortrekker monument. The view is spectacular the higher you climb. The gift shop is definitely worth a visit and of course, the splendor of the Voortrekker monument invites anyone and all to walk through and experience the history of our ancestors. Once again a breathtaking experience!
We visited the Monument yesterday, and I must really commend the curators; nicely kept grounds, and also many visible improvements such as new sun tracking solar panels. The Monument itself has also been well maintained, and as always, was a pleasure to walk through.A new coffee shop named Skool op Wiele which is run by the FAK looked after our refreshment needs, and is something to experience. Well done!
Great experience, beautiful place. Hiking was excellent as the has signs, very clean, being looked after very well. 5 star
Well worth the visit. Stunning grounds and the monument and museum were very interesting and informative.
My favourite monument! The VTK and FAK visibly always work extremely hard to constantly improve this monument and its offerings. The photos of the monument and surrounds hardly do it any justice - seeing its magnificence in person is a sight and feeling to behold!Be sure to ask around about the meanings of things at the monument, as there are quite a lot of positive hidden meanings to things (hint e.g., ask about the kraal). The monument grounds are always kept in pristine condition, which is absolutely impressive for the country it is in.Parking is also very convenient, but do note that a symbolic element of the monument is a massive staircase (1 inside, 1 outside). There is wheelchair access to most areas as far as I could tell, but some shorter flights of stairs may not have alternatives and may require assistance. The museum does have lifts inside, so wheelchair users are indeed able to go up to see the crenellations. The monument has new exhibitions, of which one is a restored ox wagon that was part of the Groot Trek and the Bloodrivier battle. Apparently a borderline marvel of its time, superior in both workmanship and aesthetic to some German ox wagons.
We took our grandchildren ages 6 - 9 to the monument. They enjoyed it very much - wonderful adventure for them. Big place with a picnic terrain and the fort as well and a nature reserve. You can keep kids busy for a long time.
Lovely heritage Day outing. Have been to the Voortrekker monument in years, and they are really looking after the place. I must go
The little restaurant has the best Chocolate cake ever!
Sometimes we need be reminded what people before us went through... where peoples come from... and ... Quo Vadis... it is a pitu the road to Freedom-Park is currently closed. Can be nice to visit both in one go.Scarpe Diem.
Great to see our history, but kids should be supervised in the museum. Why they think its okay to klimb onto historical pieces is beyond me.
I love the Monument. The walking trails, the history, the gift shop, the places to eat and visit. It makes for a bumper visit. So worth your while.
Awesome experience.
Got lucky. I’ve been there alone
Spectacular, worth visiting. Informative.
Great place , something special about it ( Christmas lunch at the monument was the best decision of the year ) incredible food
Beautiful remembrance gardens
Its so beautiful, interesting and insightful. You can even walk up and get an awesome view of the city.
Fantastic. So much history.
Wonderful views, rich in history.
Wonderful place, well kept, neat and tidy. Facilities are hygienic. We need to support places like this more often.
Nice place to take the kids
Great place of heritage
Great monument to see if you are visiting Pretoria or have some free time during the afternoon. The entrance fee was only 100 rand and gives you the chance to see some very amazing views of the city and landscape while standing at the top of the monument. The lower level of the monument is a museum that covers the history of the Voortrekkers and the Battle of Blood River.
Very friendly and a fantastic place to visit
Quad bike tour around museum. Adventure Zone quad safari
Worth a visit. Also good for a hike/walk. Once per quarter there is an antique market as well which is well worth visiting
Loved the place very much, the place is very clean and quiet, the stone sculpture and gypsum sculptures marble...no the place is built to last, pictorial history very informative...do yourself a favour pay the place a visit
Very interesting and well maintained.
Amazing experience!
Well kept ,staff very friendly, thanks for looking after our history gardens well kept
Relaxing day out with the family!
Absolutely amazing!!! Just one thing...They need to make sure their staff understands how the internet system works. We bought our tickets on the internet and they had no clue.
Family outing, variety of activities, acessible for variety activities, shop and kiosk available. Place for braai and picnic.
Very friendly personnel, safe and clean premises. Awesome trails to run bike and hike
Beautifull experience. Lots of history. Will definitely visit again.
It is a stunning monument with beautiful architectural detail. It’s very informative and has an impressive museum downstairs. That being said, I would tread lightly if you an English speaking American. I was asked to leave after a few other patrons heard me speaking English. It’s a shame they don’t want visitors to learn about their culture.
This is one of the places sacred to my heart, so judge for yourself
The Voortrekker Monument never gets old! It has a magic about it that captivates you from the moment you drive up to the entrance. There is so much to see, learn and enjoy and I cant help feeling proudly South African every time I walk up the steps to the Voortrekker Monument!
Loads to do, so plan to spend some time there.
Awesome view from the top of VTM
Amazing place to be if you understand the meaning of it
Loved it
The hirse back riding was an AMAZING experience with staff the are so professional. I felt comfortable even though it was my first time riding. A must do for every family
Great place to spend a dayWalking trailsCoffee shopMuseumNice outing
World-class monument. Great restaurant and shop.
Amazing day out. Wonderful walk back in history. Educational. Lots to see and do.
The future of South Africa looks dark if we compare it to our history :(
What a great historical place to visit, to learn more of the hard working Afrikaner peoples history.
Nice to visit and they keep it in good condition. One of our best heritage sites.
Lots to do and eat, a blast from our past.
Impressive monument with heartbreaking history but beautiful ambience. Was an honour to learn what happened in the past looking around inside. Well looked after.
Was an absolute amazing experience.
Well kept and clean. Pity the Museum in the southeast wing had no one and we could not go.
It was good to visit again after many years!
Such a beautiful building. And very interesting.
Rich in history culture nature and adventure... Make sure to vissit the new Adventure zone branch on the premises
Architecturally gorgeous, you wont be disappointed. It is a stunning representation of the interpretation of history. But there isnt much happening at the monument itself, perhaps its just the day I visited. It is always useful to explore the history from others perspective rather than just being limited to your own understanding of it.
A beautiful heritage site with an amazing structure and vegetation.
What a heritage site indeed.
Very nice place. Beautiful view. Giftstoffe has very nice stuff
Very nice day heritage day visit to the monument. Splendid experience!
Such a beautiful place. Will go back anytime to learn more about the actual truth.Highly recommended 👌🏼
Beautiful and clean. Definitely something to be seen with the family. Would be nice if they had a full restaurant.
It was great, very clean, very well maintained
Great place to learn alot about our heritage
Lots of stairs to climb, good exercise, very interesting displays and from the top great views to the Union Buildings and to the South. Great place for photography of the monument and displays themselves or as a setting for a photoshoot.
Very interesting and peaceful place to visit. Friends-Family friendly.
Great place to visit with the family. Havent been here since I was 7 years old.
Definitely a one-of-a-kind place. A remarkable structure. We had a lovely time there. So much to learn and do and it is extremely clean and well-kept. The tapestry in the museum is impeccable and the items on display were very interesting. The wagon and the Zulu hut outside were also very interesting. The security guard was also extremely helpful, as we punctured a tyre on the way there and he helped us put the the spare tyre on. Overall a very pleasant experience and will be back soon.
Extremely well-kept & clean! Beautifully maintained gardens. Very impressed, adheres to COVID regulations with masks needed on entry and lots of avaliable sanitizer stations. The artwork on the walls is so detailed and gives you an incredible way to experience a piece of history. Definitely a must-see experience!
Such a great way to see heritage, its educational and fun, but dont do this in summer
Beautiful Scenery, Lovely Restaurant, Everything is well Maintained and the history is beyond what I could have imagined. The detail in Everything from floor to Roof is just...wow. Flabbergasted is definitely an understatement. ♡ Would 100% recommend to any knowledge hungry people out there!
Very nice day out with cycling, monuments and game drive.
It brings the culture and History out during the Voortrekker Times. The monument is very well kept. Currently entrance in R90 per person. The are clean restrooms a souvenir store and a restaurant. Definitely recommended place to visit!
Well looked after Monument. Great that something of the Afrikaner history is still kept in good condition. However the Amphitheater needs some cleaning and upkeep.
Beautifully kept and very informative. I took an overseas visitor here on request and he enjoyed it so much. All the staff are very helpful and friendly.
Enjoyed
Amazing! Excellently neat and clean premises and golden rich with history!
Very interesting of course. Entrance is expensive, R90 per adult. Not very busy so good experience without the good tourists in your way. Well maintained monument. Great views from the top!!
Fantastic! A must-see for anyone. Our heritage. 🙏
South African History about the Groot Trek.. excellent presentations
Although the history is phenomenal, it is presented in a way which is quote outdated. There are no Audio Guides to rent. The information in the booklet lends itself to an antiquated writing style, leaving the children bored and disinterested.Hopefully they will look to museums in other countries to learn from them how to present.
Well run & follow protocols. A great structure in SAs checkered past
