We had a beer pairing evening! Lovely Union beer with glorious food- typical of Shane! Low lighting and candles.. the restaurant was packed! Like always,Shane makes an appearance to personally talk to everyone. A great chef!

It has been a while since we have been here. Chef Shane as usual knows his stuff.We had a lovely relaxing evening celebrating a special family occasion.The food was very tasty and well presented.There are various pre selectable meal options available and they all compliment each other very well.You can choose between a starter and main course combo or main course and desert option. Both options are very filling. But......if you prefer bigger meals, nothing stops you from adding either a starter or desert to you combo choice.It is really worthwhile keeping an eye open for their special evenings and special events.

Beautiful.I found the staff to be friendly, helpful and informative. The environment is nice and cosy and I love that social distancing between tables was taken into consideration.Something I haven’t seen in restaurant’s are small bottles of sanitiser placed on the tables which La Pentola has done, so super thumbs up on that point.I found the cocktails to be potent but I can’t say they were a show stopper in terms of taste.We had the wine pairing evening, the dessert and shrimp gooseberry salad which blew my taste buds into another galaxy!The steak was more well done than medium to rare (was made to Chef Shane’s preference) and being a rare steak lover that was quite disappointing.The risotto was underdone, I couldn’t eat it. I understand it should be somewhat al dente but I swear that was very much close to raw and I found it to be very unpleasant.Overall, it was a lovely evening thanks to the dishes that blew my mind, the atmosphere that was warm and inviting and the company that made it wonderful.

A bit stuck. La Pentola staff are attentive and do a good job catering to diverse diners including vegans. The kitchen has some inventive approaches including the use of wine and spirits in the ingredients. Yet the menu doesnt seem to evolve and the results on the plate can be uninspiring and conservative. Aztec mushrooms were overpowered by chocolate; beetroot prosciutto were too thick and dry with rancid nuts; a dahl in filo dish was a pie with two veg on the side.The ambiance was truly awful when we last visited in January 2021: butchers paper over the tablecloths and a soundtrack of mediocre pop at high volume. It seems to operate more for the convenience of staff than patrons right now.

Awesome dining place for friends and couples. Diverse menu with ordinary dishes with a twist. They serve from chicken livers, to chicken, steak, warthog, crocodile. Even the starters are divine. Relaxed environment. Great service too.

Our second time here, this time to celebrate our 8th Anniversary. Service was great, incl. the complimentary glass for our anniversary which we werent expecting.Food was top-notch and our waiter, Tshepo, gave us excellent service.

Brilliant service. My mussel starter was superb, however, was a little disappointed with my pasta dish. Had better els where. Wifes chicken dish was brilliant. Will definitely go again.

We went on New Year’s Eve when they had a set menu of steak or fish. They accommodated both a vegan and a vegetarian at our table, making each of them a custom menu and calling us in advance to check if the customized menu would be ok. Highly recommended!

The dinner was superb! Unfortunately they ran out of the wine we were drinking but offered us another which was nice. Waiter was friendly but a little slow but we are a demand bunch of 8. So semi-understandable. My husband and his friends had the kidney starter special which was very tasty and my steak was done to perfection. Thank you for a good evening

My Second favorite restaurant in South Africa. They have these wine tasting evenings which is absolutely out of the books. I can highly recommend it. Great service, great food, very lovely experience.

Never dare to complain or not conform at this place. The chef/owner should comply with clients requests. Not everyone likes medium-rare steak. Perhaps the chip on his shoulder prevents him from seeing that clients dont appreciate his rude, condescending and facetious attitude. It actually spoils the food. Everytime I have been dragged there a customer was being shouted at and even thrown out of the establishment. Good company and atmosphere are 50% of the enjoyment of the dish being served. At my age I know how I like my food. I dont need a bombastic, arrogant person telling me what I like. The meals are prepared very well (actually excellent) if you happen upon something the way you like it prepared.

We have just had the best restaurant meal in our travels in South Africa at La Pentola in Pretoria. The chef is the best. Snails are die for! The fillet was done to perfection and the crocodile starter superb. Have never had a better duck served before! Service was excellent and we shall be back. Highly recommended.

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Pretoria! Theyve recently revamped the interior, giving this iconic place an update.La Pentola is all about the food. Chef Shane is on point! The meat dishes are exceptional. I would strongly recommend having fillet.

We had an absolutely amazing dinner at La Pentola. Val, our hostess, was perfect, the best service we have ever received. And the food was top notch. Really well prepared, but generous in size whilst maintaining impeccable presentation and preparation. We were blown away.

Disappointing service and meal. I took very sophisticated friends for a special meal and was embarrassed. Chicken pie with no attempt at garnish. Strawberry and icecream dessert for 2 to share x 2 consisted of two plates with 2 scoops of ice cream. We even had to ask for 2 extra plates so we didnt have to share the plate as well. Not worth the price.

Nice parings of wine and food!

I have heard legendary stories about this restaurants dishes, and could not wait to make a reservation. I treated overseas guests and myself for dinner. Was not very impressed with the main courses (we shared a number of dishes). Very pricey for ok food. I think the restaurant is currently relying on its reputation. I hope to have a better dining experience there in future.

This is good fine dining restaurant. The food is excellent, but a bit pricey. The decor is a bit down market. The staff are helpful. Nothing happens fast at this restaurant, so dont be in a hurry. The food is worth the wait.

Great food, fairly priced. Waiters not all that friendly but other staff very helpful and friendly. Food takes a bit of time but it is divine and worth the wait. Smoking section outside but it seems they dont really like it when you get up and go outside to vape/smoke. It was a nice experience.

A wonderful lunch once again at La Pentola. the pea and bacon soup was delicious. The Salmon Ravioli was delicious. Sandra you outdid yourself as usual.

Our home-from-home eatery as it is just around the corner and the place we had our first serious date. We still go back for our anniversary. We think chef Shane Sauvage is a rock star and his Hermanus La Pentola is where we always have the last dinner of the summer holiday. The food in Pretoria LP is great, a hiccup here and there with hubby s steak but always graciously fixed. Food in Hermanus LP fantastic.

Best eating experience

A firm favorite for us.

After many many brilliant meals at La Pentola we were extremely disappointed at our mains..... Limpopo chicken not thoroughly cooked and very pink in spots. The steak has a green corner - apparently as a result of meat stamping, although we didnt realise the ink penetrates the entire cut and also would assume the chef would cut it off. Opted not to eat it at all. Not a good experience, especially not on my birthday! Very disappointing experience after many years of giving La Pentola brilliant reviews.

Stunning, great tasting, quality food.Welcoming atmosphere made possible by the aesthetics and friendly staff....but compliments to the cook, our food was excellent.
